Most of the art on the walls is by local Big Island This property is an excellent space stay, play and relax while on the Big Island.

Puako offers access to some of the best snorkel and diving experiences on the Big Island. You will be near world famous golf courses, delightful outdoor shopping malls that feature an array of great boutique shops and some of the best Big Island dining and views. Of course if you're interested in any of the many water sport activities the Kawaihae harbour and nearby resorts at Waikoloa beach have a wide variety of offers. Take advantage of the many sunset catamaran excursions or sunset excursions to the top of Mauna Kea at close to 14,000 feet (~4200 meters) above sea level. There are also five National Parks on the island. Pu'ukohola Heiau National Historic Site is the closest being a 15 minute drive to the north and highly recommended to learn more about the Hawaiian history and culture.

And the beach is just across the street, we saw several turtles near shore. Nice quiet neighborhood. It is a bit of a drive to most destinations, though to be expected given how dispersed the island is. Hapuna Beach which is gorgeous is a short drive though. Hosts were very responsive to help deal with a few minor maintenance issues."

Our home offers 2 master suites, 2 guest bedrooms with their own baths, a media room with a bath, an open living, dining and gourmet kitchen area with cathedral ceilings that opens to a huge covered lanai adjacent to the 46' 360 degree infinity pool. Each bedroom, the living and media room, each have a large flat screen TV complete with an advanced audio system. Great care was taken with the landscape, creating a beautiful palm tree oasis on the ocean side. This gorgeously designed home is topped off with a 3rd story 'whale watch' retreat that offers 360 degree view. New mattresses and luxurious bedding in all master and guest bedrooms (Oct 2023).

The swimming pool has direct access from the first floor. For children that are not water safe it is recommended that they wear a life vest when on the lanais in the vicinity of the pool.
Hale Nana Kohola has hosted numerous birthday, anniversary and other family celebrations for the past 10 years. Our house is constantly being upgraded and is in pristine condition. The Hawaiian Polynesian design has a couple of thousand square feet of lanais for amazing indoor and outdoor living.

Our media room is equipped with luxury chairs and a full bath for ‘overflow’ guests. There is also a Queen Murphy bed in the media room, which converts to the fifth bedroom.

Great care has been taken with the landscape of our beach house vacation rental, creating a beautiful Hawaiian oasis including a hammock stretched between two palms ocean side. This home is one of the few in Puako with a sandy beach right in front complete with the protected ‘lava reef pools’ for your little ones. The ancient Hawaiians have named one of the pools in front of Hale Nana Kohola the “Queens Bath”.

This gorgeously designed luxury vacation rental home is topped off with a 3rd story “whale watch” retreat that offers 360-degree views across the land and ocean from the sunrise over Mauna Kea to the sunset over the Pacific Ocean. This is worlds away from the cookie cutter golf course houses that you see too frequently here. The location generally is also excellent. It’s about a 5min drive from Hapuna beach which is one of the best beaches in the world…on par with Hanalei. And it’s only about 15-20 min to Waimea which has the best dining options on the big island."

There is a store across the street for items and you are only 15 minutes away from Waimea or other locations with restaurants, so it is extremely convenient to stay here. - "Think Hemingway, add in a gorgeous beach with incredible sunsets. Its here, accommodations are equal to its surroundings, matured and dated with Hawaiian history. Open aired with all the modern conveniences needed to enjoy this unique place." - "This house was amazing for our family of eight and grandma and grandpa! The location is incredible and we will stay here again some year!!!!! The whole setting is a 10, but does have a few minor things to be aware of. The beach access is also part of a state park and can get really crowded, because it is an awesome location for snorkeling, SUP (use the owner’s referral to Evan for SUP & kayak rentals: HE WAS AWESOME to rent from) and hanging out. The house is well kept, but has it’s little things like the screen doors needed constant attention or our poor attention to detail that if you leave the property after 8pm to 7am, you have to use the secondary gated exit (we almost missed our fishing boat. Again, our mistake and the house contact was great to deal with) Other awesome bonus stuff was the storage room full of beach chairs, masks/snorkels/fins and a few fishing poles. The Neighborhood:
Puako is still the only ocean front residential community along the Gold Coast/Kohala Coast of the Big Island nestled between the Mauna Lani Resort, Fairmont Orchid and Mauna Kea/Hapuna Resorts. Hapuna Beach State Park has earned the reputation of being one of Hawaii Island's finest beaches. It is the largest White Sands Beach on The Big Island and consistently rates on Top Ten lists internationally. Hapuna Beach offers some wonderful opportunities for swimming, bodysurfing, bodyboarding, sunbathing and snorkeling and is just a mile from Puako. You can even drive the back road to Hapuna Beach and not get on the Highway. Local shore fisherman can be seen daily enjoying the great reef fishing. Puako Beach Drive has no through access which keeps it virtually still undiscovered by many.

There are six separate "beach" accesses along this stretch of beach. Although there is not a tremendous amount of sand, there are tide pools and the extensive protected reef is remarkable. During low tide, small pools dot the entire coastline and these pools are filled with small sea life that make excellent areas to explore for all ages. If you enjoy shore diving, kayaking and snorkeling you can find a spot along this stretch of shoreline to enter the water. Guests are asked to adhere to the “Good Neighbor Policy” as follows: quiet hours shall be from 9:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. during which time the noise from the short term vacation rental shall not unreasonably disturb adjacent neighbors. Sound that is audible beyond the Property boundaries during non-quiet hours shall not be more excessive than would be otherwise associated with a residential area.

NON-SMOKING RENTAL
This is a non-smoking rental. No smoking is allowed inside any of the buildings on the Property. No cigarette butts in gravel or yard.

The Neighborhood:
Puako is still the only ocean front residential community along the Gold Coast/Kohala Coast of the Big Island nestled between the Mauna Lani Resort, Fairmont Orchid and Mauna Kea/Hapuna Resorts. Hapuna Beach State Park has earned the reputation of being one of Hawaii Island's finest beaches. It is the largest White Sands Beach on The Big Island and consistently rates on Top Ten lists internationally. Hapuna Beach offers some wonderful opportunities for swimming, bodysurfing, bodyboarding, sunbathing and snorkeling and is just a mile from Puako. You can even drive the back road to Hapuna Beach and not get on the Highway. Local shore fisherman can be seen daily enjoying the great reef fishing. Puako Beach Drive has no through access which keeps it virtually still undiscovered by many.

There are six separate "beach" accesses along this stretch of beach. Although there is not a tremendous amount of sand, there are tide pools and the extensive protected reef is remarkable. During low tide, small pools dot the entire coastline and these pools are filled with small sea life that make excellent areas to explore for all ages. If you enjoy shore diving, kayaking and snorkeling you can find a spot along this stretch of shoreline to enter the water. Walk to Beach 69 from the backyard of the house. You can access the beach from a public easement located behind the house. This house is not on the beach but set one house back.

This neighborhood is located off Old Puako Rd. There is a small gate and a cluster of homes. This property has direct walking access to Beach 69 through the neighborhood (not the parking area). It is a quiet and beautiful neighborhood, perfect for your next vacation.

- "This home is perfectly located on Beach 69 which has shade, sand, safe swimming and snorkeling, and is protected from the wind. The house was clean, was exactly what was presented in the VRBO listing, and had everything we needed for a full week of R & R in beautiful Hawaii including very comfortable beds, linens, towels, a well equipped kitchen, indoor and outdoor dining, a gorgeous view, old growth trees and landscaping in the front and back gardens, in a quiet neighborhood, safe, and peaceful. The air-conditioning, outdoor shower, washer and dryer, complimentary beach chairs and towels were all much appreciated. We ate at home every night because we love to cook, but there are many fine and reasonable dining options near by car. The house was "old school Hawaii", and while we love that, it is not for everyone because the house is very basic, nothing fancy, it's not an "Alexa" house, or modern. Matter of fact with just a tiny bit of paint to refresh the peeling paint, and a few other minor updates and touches, this house would be nearly perfect. However, once we got into Hawaii chill mode, none of those details mattered. We'll be back and feel so grateful for such a wonderful home away from home."

NOISE
Please keep in mind that Guest is in a very small and peaceful residential neighborhood. Noise carries over quiet landscapes and near water. IBR asks that Guest and Guest’s children respect Property neighbors' privacy, peace and quiet. Guests are asked to adhere to the “Good Neighbor Policy” as follows: quiet hours shall be from 9:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. during which time the noise from the short term vacation rental shall not unreasonably disturb adjacent neighbors. Sound that is audible beyond the Property boundaries during non-quiet hours shall not be more excessive than would be otherwise associated with a residential area.

NON-SMOKING RENTAL
This is a non-smoking rental. No smoking is allowed inside any of the buildings on the Property. No cigarette butts in gravel or yard.

PLEASE KEEP SCREENS AND DOORS TIGHTLY CLOSED TO PREVENT PESTS FROM ENTERING THE HOME.

SUPPLIES
As part of our commitment to ensuring a relaxing and enjoyable stay for our guest, we provide a complimentary set of initial supplies (paper goods and soaps) upon your arrival. These supplies are intended to help you get started and make your transition into our accommodation as smooth as possible.  After your initial supply is depleted, it is your responsibility to replenish any additional supplies needed for the duration of your stay.

NOISE
Please keep in mind that Guest is in a very small and peaceful residential neighborhood. Noise carries over quiet landscapes and near water. IBR asks that Guest and Guest’s children respect Property neighbors' privacy, peace and quiet. Guests are asked to adhere to the “Good Neighbor Policy” as follows: quiet hours shall be from 9:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. during which time the noise from the short term vacation rental shall not unreasonably disturb adjacent neighbors. Sound that is audible beyond the Property boundaries during non-quiet hours shall not be more excessive than would be otherwise associated with a residential area.

NON-SMOKING RENTAL
This is a non-smoking rental. No smoking is allowed inside any of the buildings on the Property. No cigarette butts in gravel or yard.

PLEASE KEEP SCREENS AND DOORS TIGHTLY CLOSED TO PREVENT PESTS FROM ENTERING THE HOME.

SUPPLIES
As part of our commitment to ensuring a relaxing and enjoyable stay for our guest, we provide a complimentary set of initial supplies (paper goods and soaps) upon your arrival. These supplies are intended to help you get started and make your transition into our accommodation as smooth as possible.  After your initial supply is depleted, it is your responsibility to replenish any additional supplies needed for the duration of your stay.

TRAFFIC
Please DRIVE SLOWLY in our neighborhoods. The speed limits are 10 mph to 25 mph and there are many children and adult pedestrians and bicyclists.

USE OF PROPERTY
Guest may use the home only as a place of vacation. Guest may not use it for commercial purposes, for any unlawful, improper, offensive purpose or illegal activity. Please refer to Guest Book upon arrival for details and instructions concerning use of pool, spa, and/or air conditioning if these amenities are available at the rented Property.

NEIGHBORHOOD CONSTRUCTION
IBR is not responsible for any construction noise or inconvenience that may occur during Guest stay. No refunds will be given. Although IBR cannot guarantee full knowledge of any planned or current construction occurring, Guest may contact IBR (90) days prior to Guest arrival to inquire if IBR is aware of construction adjacent to the Property occurring and Guest may choose to cancel at that time IF there is construction occurring that may affect the Property UNLESS Guest has already been made aware of construction during time of or shortly after Guest booking was made.

When securing Guest booking with payment Guest is consenting to have read, understood and accepted all the terms and conditions of our Island Beach Rentals, LLC. Rental Agreement as excerpted above as well as the IBR terms and conditions also sent by direct email to guest at time of booking.
