Our upscale North Shore retreat is well-appointed and comfortable! It is in the desired town home community of Windsong Cottages enveloped down in a beautiful valley off of Highway 61 at the edge of the charming town of Beaver Bay, MN. It boasts a commanding view of Lake Superior the largest fresh water lake in the world!

Our Windsong Cottage is perched on a rocky ridge of the waters edge and pebbled with beautiful trees beneath the deck! Come and unwind as you soak in the soothing sounds of the waves crashing on the rocks right in front of our home.

As you drive down into the protected valley of the Windsong Cottages, you experience the peaceful community of these town homes, with Lake Superior as the back drop, glistening on a sunny day! You immediately notice these cottages are up-scale, hand crafted homes that are aesthetically landscaped, well maintained and you feel you are in for a nice vacation experience.

Our 1570 square foot vacation home is nestled in the community of lake front Windsong Cottages which boasts some of the best unobstructed views of the Lake.

FURNISHINGS:

Our cottage’s décor has style encompassing many elements of the theme of Lake Superior, its many moods, and the surrounding woods.

We have uniquely furnished our home with upscale furnishings like Flexsteel Couch & Lazy Boy Chairs. The couch is electric reclining & reclining chairs. The Old Hickory Furniture that is typically found in iconic, upscale lodges and resorts since 1899 brings a quality and rustic comfort that makes our vacation home feel like an upscale North Shore retreat.

BED AND BATH ACCOMMODATIONS:

It accommodates up to six guests depending on what sleeping arrangements you are looking for. It has three private bedrooms that claim a bathroom for each.

A truly romantic and beautifully appointed Master Bedroom Suite features Old Hickory furniture and north woods lodge décor. The prominent, king size bed highlights this room hosting a supremely comfortable - Plush pillowtop mattress with rich linens. The height of this bed allows you cuddle on the bed and see the entire panoramic view out the bay windows that encase the complete front of the bedroom. There is nothing better than watching the sunrise or moon rise from your bed! The suite features a Jacuzzi tub at the windows edge for retreating into after a long day on the shore. There is an adjoining bathroom with heated floors, a closet, and attached toilet/shower room.

Second Floor Queen Suite - A favorite when two couples come to the shore to each have their own private suite. This bedroom features an upscale richly designed room that exudes the feel of the North Shore. A comfortable, queen sized Old Hickory log bed with matching large dresser with many drawers. An adjoining, full private bath with heated floors, tub/shower combo.

Third bedroom - on the main level home. Small private room, with a comfortable Queen sized bed. The bed is closer to one wall by the window. A closet and suite case table. This bedroom has a bathroom located just outside the bedroom with heated floor, and shower.

LIVING ROOM - DINING - KITCHEN:
Alas---walk down the hall to a "grand view" out the large, floor to ceiling windows showcasing Lake Superior back drop to the open design of the kitchen, dining, and living rooms.

Truly an upscale "North Shore" retreat! Old Hickory & Flexsteel furniture, and our Old Hickory dining table & 4 chairs (2 folding chairs are in closet to seat six easily) Our guests say they love the homey feel relaxing in the living room surrounding the fireplace to sit in comfort and talk about their wonderful day on the shore. Loving the ambiance of the sound of crashing waves on our shore or being mesmerized gazing at Lake Superior and the beautiful sun/moon rises! No matter if you are In the living room/deck/or master bedroom!

The kitchen features granite counters with handsome Hickory cabinets. While preparing food at the counter facing the lake, you have access to the sink (with disposal), and the bar height counter to visit with your family and friends seated on the other side.

The kitchen is complete with a dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer with ice maker, full size stove/oven, and microwave. It is organized & well appointed with the pots/pans/bakeware to make your meals. We provide various basic spices to aide in cooking your delicious meals. We provide coffee beans, various teas, hot chocolate.
We provide tin foil, plastic wrap, zip lock bags, paper towels and dish/hand/dishwasher soaps, kitchen towels. The cupboards are filled with nice white porcelain dishes, drinking glassware, wine glasses and pretty flatware that make a lovely up-north table. You can enjoy your meal at the dining room table or out on the deck table to revel in the panoramic view and entrancing sounds of Lake Superior!

OUR PHILOSOPHY:
After many years of vacationing on the North Shore, we purchased this town home in December 2014. We know what we appreciated and looked for in the properties we have stayed at. Our home has evolved into a "boutique vacation home rental" thanks to all our guests and repeat guests we continue to keep this dream retreat alive! You will find a clean and well cared for vacation home.

We pay well for our excellent cleaning team. We strive to use most cleaning products to be all natural eco and human friendly. We manage our property ourselves and that has allowed us to have a well maintained home. We have a maintenance man to take care of any issues that would need addressing right away.

We decided to share our vacation home with others to offset the expenses of our dream retreat. We are looking for GUESTS WHO WILL PARTNER WITH US IN USING OUR HOME WITH CARE. It is our hope your experience with us will keep you coming back for many years!

OUR COMMUNITY:
We are part of a quiet community of 26 privately owned residential town homes that are not owned or operated by any resort, hotel or lodge. A vacation by owner rental allows travelers to experience a vacation out of the congested resort or hotel settings. You become part of our friendly community of owners and guests. We have a shared use building with a pool and sauna. Pool (open Memorial day to New Years) AND Sauna open Year round.

Our vacation home is centrally located just off Minnesota scenic North Shore drive Highway 61 and surrounded by some of the premier vacation state park destinations in Minnesota. The closest park being Split Rock Lighthouse which is one of the most visited and photographed lighthouses in the nation! It is hard to beat our location for travelers who want to be centrally located and capture “all” the shore has to offer.

We think you will agree, due to the nature of the shores length, if you are too far northeast or southwest you get trapped into only seeing part of the shore when you visit, but our location meets the needs of the travelers who want to see it all. Hand scribed log cabin perched high on a cliff overlooking lake superior. Surrounded by big red and white pines, it truly is the 'land of the pines.' Kick back on the deck or in the large screen porch and watch the ships coming and going from Silver Bay Harbor. Huge view of the lake and Palisade Head. Very private and peaceful.

Tons to do, near Tettegouche, Judge Magney, Temperance and Split Rock state parks and Silver Bay Marina. Excellent waterfalls, Baptism river, swimming, hiking, fishing, biking, rock climbing, sailing, boating, kayaking, the list goes on...
or a perfect spot to sit and take in the views and do nothing at all.

Winter season brings a whole new array of activities and scenery. The snow covered white pines with the blue water of Lake Superior is amazing! We have a sweet dove tail wood fired sauna. There are 2 sets of snowshoes and trails from the door. Also several great cross country ski trails nearby, including Tettegouche State Park, where you can ski into an old hunting camp of several log cabins and a nice lodge. You can pack in a lunch and make a fire in the fireplace. There is also the Northwoods Ski Trail in Silver Bay and Flathorn-Gegoka in Isabella, just to name a few.

There is a queen and a double bed in the loft with a huge skylight for star gazing and lightning storms. The screen porch also has incredible views and is a comfortable place to relax, there is also a comfy futon in the living room.

Centrally located on the North Shore only 50 miles to Grand Marais, 58 miles to Duluth or 50 miles to Ely and the Boundary Waters. The Silver Bay Marina is only six miles away. Superior Hiking trail is a quarter mile. Ring camera doorbell is on site; located beside entry door. Kayak rental is available from Sawbill outfitters.

The Palisade Log Cabin is a lake front, wooded private retreat on the north shore of Lake Superior. It is located just off Highway 61, one mile northeast of Silver Bay. It is about a half mile through heavily wooded lots to the 45-year-old secluded and authentic log cabin. The cabin sits on seven acres of private land, and has more than 460 feet of high rugged Lake Superior shoreline.

There are incredible views to the north of the Palisade Head Cliffs. These cliffs reach 350 feet high and are a favorite of rock climbers. You can hear the waves of the lake crashing against the ledge rock cliffs just 70 feet from the cabin. The sunrises over the lake are spectacular; in the evening you might be able to view the northern lights.

We installed a geothermal heating/cooling system in October 2012 which should keep the cabin warm and cozy all winter long, and cool in the summer. Enjoy the peace and solitude of the whispering pines and birch while watching a bald eagle flying above. You can read a book or play cards/games near the cabin’s warm wood stove. Outside you can toast marshmallows at the fire pit or play horseshoes. Search for Thomsonites, agates, crystals, cobblestones, or driftwood at the nearby Black beach, go berry picking, or view colorful spring wild flowers and brilliant fall foliage.

There are many things to do and explore in the area:
-Drive the Highway 61/Superior National Forest Scenic Byway and visit the beautiful Minnesota state parks nearby (see map).
-Hike on The Superior Hiking Trail that runs from Two Harbors to the Canadian border. -Ride your bike on the Gitche Gami Bike Trail that runs along Highway 61.
-Snowmobile on the North Shore State Snowmobiling Trail or drive an ATV on designated ATV trails from Duluth to Grand Portage.
-Try cross-country skiing on the North Shore Mountain Cross Country Ski Trail.
-Visit Lutsen Mountains ski resort 36 miles from the cabin.

In the summer you can go to Black Beach less then a mile away, and nearby beautiful sandy beaches which are part of Tettegouche State Park or hike to the beautiful High Falls. Take a charter boat tour or fishing trip out of the Silver Bay Marina, that is 3.5 miles to the southwest. If you're adventurous, you can go kayaking in the cove. Golfing is available at Silver Bay golf course, and there is live music in Silver Bay July 14- September 1.

Watch for giant iron ore carriers on Lake Superior; they depart from Silver Bay and head east to Cleveland. Look for wildlife around the cabin and you may see eagle, deer, moose, bear, fox, wolf, and beaver. If you don’t feel like cooking, dine at a variety of fine nearby restaurants (Northwoods Cafe in Silver Bay, Lemon Wolf in Beaver Bay, Cove Point Lodge in Beaver Bay; Rustic Inn near Two Harbors) or check out the new Timber Coffee Company near downtown Silver Bay.

There is also a local grocery store, Zups, located just five minutes for the cabin for last minute supplies.

Our home is perfect for one or two couples, there are two bedrooms, one on each floor, each with a connected bath for privacy. Our home's amazing view and ideal location attracts lots of inquiries from travelers with a 5th or 6th person, rather than turn them down, we added twin air mattresses so we can accommodate six guests, that is our maximum.

The Gitchi-Gami State Trail is at the top of Windsong Drive, walk or ride bikes to Split Rock Lighthouse and Gooseberry Falls. Palisade Head and Tettegouche State Park are a few miles up 61. Easy access to the Superior Hiking Trail, hike for miles through forests, along ridges, rivers, waterfalls and lakes. What an amazing place in every season, come explore by day and relax in style and comfort at night.

Winter guests enjoy miles and miles of nearby cross country and snowmobile trails. The midwest's best downhill skiing is just 40 minutes away at Lutsen. Gooseberry Falls park and Split Rock both have beautiful, groomed cross country ski trails, we use them to snowshoe too. There's nothing like spending time on foot, skis or snowshoes in the woods in winter. It's good for your body, mind and soul.

With beautiful, 270 degree views overlooking Lake Superior and the steep hills of Tettegouche State Park, the cabin offers an awe-inspiring location to observe the beauty of the surrounding area.

Perched on a wooded hill 700 ft higher than Lake Superior, the Apostle Islands on the south shore can be seen along with the large ships going to and from Duluth. Witness spectacular sunrises and sunsets, experience impressive weather patterns and watch for falling stars and the northern lights at night!

We built this full scribed log cabin out of large white pine logs in a peaceful and remote location. Enjoy this perfect place to relax all day or return to your home-away-from-home after an adventurous day of exploring the hiking trails, State Parks, and beautiful rocky beaches of Lake Superior. Sit on the deck or screened porch and enjoy the views. Listen to the wind in the trees, the morning birdsong, or the distant sound of a waterfall. Grill a steak or have a drink while taking in the peace and quite. Read, play games, sit around a fire at night watching the moon on Lake Superior, or hike to the river and see the falls!

Baptism River and Illgen falls, with a thunderous 50 foot drop, are about 1/4 mile from the cabin and are easily accessible. Watch people rope swinging or jumping at the falls or walk up river to take a dip in a private swimming spot.

Lake Superior and Crystal Beach are only 1.5 miles away. This beach offers a less-visited place to look for rocks, listen to the waves, or take a refreshing swim in the cold waters of Lake Superior.

Kayak the clear waters of the big lake and enjoy the cliffs and rocky shoreline or bike the paved Gitchi-Gami trail.

Hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing trails and rock climbing routes can all be found within a 5-10 minute drive on the Superior Hiking Trail, Tettegouche State Park, and impressive Palisade Head. The trails in this area offer some of the best hiking and scenery in the midwest taking you to cascading waterfalls, through thick balsam, poplar, and maple forests and up and over steep rocky climbs that offer breathtaking views of the inland lakes, hills, and Lake Superior. No matter what season, natural beauty is everywhere!

Within 20 minutes there are numerous restaurants, gift shops, a golf course, a lake cruise, and chartered fishing opportunities. Wolf Ridge Environmental Center is a pretty and unique place to visit.

Within 40 minutes you will find Lutsen Mountain which offers the best downhill skiing and snowboarding in the Midwest! In the summer you can take a Gondola to a sweeping overlook and have lunch, take a fun ride on the alpine slides, or enjoy the gift shops and restaurants in the area. Gooseberry, Split Rock, Temperance State, and George Manitou State parks all offer site seeing, hiking, gift shops and information about the area. All the state parks have beautiful lake access and mesmerizing waterfalls. In the city of Two Harbors you will find many shops, restaurants, a cruise, train ride, light house and various other attractions.

The unique villages of Ely and Grand Marais are each within an hour's drive and offer various regional activities, recreational opportunities, shopping , and restaurants. Both of these quaint destinations have seasonal festivals, events, and music.

It is located just outside the quaint town of Beaver Bay, which has various restaurants and a few shops to explore. The paved Gitchi-Gami trail, which has several segments along the shore, is just across the road at the end of the driveway. Bike rental is available at Cove Point Crossing about 1/2 mile from the cabin. Bike the trail to Split Rock Lighthouse or Gooseberry Falls. Mountain bike (or hike) the new Split Rock Wilds trail right from the cabin or park closer at the nearby trailhead. Hike to Cove Point to get a drink or a pizza. Split Rock Lighthouse State Park is a 5 minute drive and Gooseberry Falls is a 15 minute drive away, Palisade Head and Tettegouche State Park only 20 minutes. All of these parks offer great hiking and sightseeing opportunites with waterfalls, lighthouse, and lake views. The Superior HIking Trail, which spans the whole North Shore, is accessible within 1/2 mile of the cabin.

The attractive town of Two Harbors is only 1/2 hour away and has many shops, restaurants, and a lighthouse to explore. Lutsen Mountain near Tofte offers breathtaking views while downhill skiing. Speed down the mountain on the Alpine Slides or take the relaxing Gondola ride up to the top of the Sawtooth range to have a lunch with a sweeping view of Lake Superior. Grand Marais and Ely are about an hour away and have many shops and seasonal festivals and activities. Check out the North House Folk School for year round classes.

In winter some of the best snowshoeing and skiing abound just down the road. Tettegouche has maintained cross country ski trails. All ungroomed trails are great for snowshoeing and the rivers are beautiful in the winter!

There is a snowmobile trail that starts near the cabin and joins up with the north shore trail system.

Our laundering of all bedding between guests, state of the art ventilation system, high speed internet and cable TV, keyless contact-free check-in, and ensuite bathrooms for each bedroom contribute to our house's appeal during COVID-19 and at all times. We are a fully licensed and inspected free-standing and private home just a 3.5 hour drive from the Minneapolis Saint Paul International Airport. Best of all is our location on Lake Superior with views of its most dramatic section of rugged coastline from throughout the house.

With our Scandinavian and Japanese heritage showing through the warm wood tones, the house was designed for our own family retreats and is fully licensed for short-term rental. Each of our 5 bedrooms has its own attached bathroom, with a separate powder room off the great room.

The upper floor of the house is level with the parking area and includes two bedrooms (one with a queen-size bed, the other with two twin beds) and the great room including the kitchen, dining and living areas, and covered deck. Couples and other small groups spend their entire time on this self-contained floor which also easily accommodates guests with mobility limitations. The lower floor has three bedrooms with queen-size beds, along with a laundry area the guests can use. One of these bedrooms can be configured for meetings/projects instead of sleeping, and it also includes memory foam single sofa bed in addition to a very comfortable techline queen-size Murphy bed. Both upper and lower floors open directly to the outside without any stairs and each bedroom has a view including the lake.

Each bedroom has its own bathroom, three of which contain soaking tub/showers and two of which have dedicated showers. Two of the soaking tubs have picture windows for very scenic relaxation.

The house was custom designed for its unique location on a wooded point to afford generous white water views of this most dramatic stretch of rugged Lake Superior shoreline. An expanse of south facing windows generously lets in the winter sun. The bay, islets and headlands we see from our windows looking toward Shovel Point of Tettegouche State are spectacular in all weathers and seasons.

Certified for energy efficient construction, the house has in-floor radiant heat, heat pump air conditioning in upper bedrooms, a fresh air exchange system, and naturally soft water from a a 330' deep well. We have a gas fireplace inside, and enjoy wood fires in the lakeside fire pit.

Our fiber optic cable service provides network stations from Duluth and over 60 cable channels with excellent bandwidth for all streaming services. The kitchen is very well equipped for serious cooking and service for ten, who can all fit around our extending dining room table. We provide all bedding and bath linens, freshly laundered (including blankets) and in place when you arrive. So you can unpack and feel fully at home, each bedroom has a generous closet and dresser drawers, and there are cabinets in the kitchen for your groceries, and a locker to store your coolers, packs, and luggage.

During the day, your eyes will probably be focused on the coastal views out the window, but note that we do provide information about the generous collection of regional and other artwork throughout the house. '

In addition to the fire pit outside, we have a yoga deck tucked in the woods on a trail running to the south of the house along the lake. Several outdoor benches provide places for scenic contemplation.

Our Lake Superior Retreat is a 3,300 sq ft log home on Lake Superior nestled on 4.75 acres of wooded land. We prefer to keep our landscape natural and rustic. We like the flora which is indigenous to the area. Wild lupine, ferns, thimbleberry, wild raspberries, etc. No grass, except for natural grasses. The result is our yard is filled with lovely butterflies.
There is plenty of parking space in the driveway. A path going down to the lake and firepit.
The house has 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bath, 2 wood burning fireplaces, large deck facing Lake Superior. Views of the lake from every room. Warm rustic Norwegian planking on the interior walls, a spacious great room with an expansive field stone fireplace, a large foyer, a well appointed kitchen, and dining room on the main floor.
The top floor has a loft bedroom overlooking the great room with a king size bed, as well as an adjacent master bedroom and bath.
The lower level has 2 bedrooms, TV room with wood burning fireplace, an air hockey table, a laundry room, all again with with the interior walls in Norwegian planking.

- "My husband and 3 kids (ages 8, 11, and 13) stayed here as part of a longer trip to the Upper Midwest. After staying at Blackbeach, we all agreed we wanted more time to spend there! The cabin is extremely well appointed and has even better views. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed to make all our meals. The cabin was well stocked with games for us to play and the kids enjoyed playing them on the porch area. We loved relaxing on the beach. There was a great shaded area where my husband and I sat and read while the younger kids looked for lake glass. We could have done that for several days! The house also has a separate garage which was helpful-we put our van in there during a storm that was forecasted to possibly have large hail. Adam was extremely responsive and well prepared. He was an extremely good host. My only complaint is that the house lighting seemed a little dim in places. The master shower was very dark. Additionally, on the evening with the storm, the kids were playing a game in the family room and it was almost hard to see due to the low lighting. Otherwise, we have no complaints! We just wish we had more time! Thank you for this amazing retreat!"

A true North Shore getaway, Gull Rock Ridge sits 200 feet above Lake Superior's shore on 22 private acres. Expansive interior windows frame the vista, and spacious outdoor decks on both the main and upper level provide perfect lake viewing, wildlife watching, sunning, and star gazing.

Outdoor activities await with three of Minnesota’s “Top Five” State Parks located within 10 minutes of Gull Rock Ridge, including Split Rock Lighthouse, only one mile away. Bike or stroll along the Gitchi-Gami State Trail or hike the Superior Hiking Trail; all are easily accessible from the property.

Gull Rock Ridge has three bedrooms; a king size bed and a pull-out queen bed in the owner's suite (with attached bathroom) on the upper level, and two bedrooms on the main level, each with a queen bed. There is a shared main-floor bathroom. The property sleeps 8 guests.

As part of an open floor plan, the kitchen is a chef's dream, with honed-granite countertops, top-of-the-line appliances and lake views. Dine in the kitchen, with seating for 4 around the peninsula, or enjoy 180-degree panoramic views of Lake Superior from the eight-person dining table. The main floor family room centers around a gas-burning stone fireplace with views all around. Multiple decks, including a seating area for eight, with a gas grill overlooks the ever-changing, enigmatic lake.

This year round home is equipped with high-speed WI-FI, a flat screen TV, a DVD player, board games and puzzles.

This home is a modern style house. Surfaces include Indian Slate floors in the kitchen, great room, hallways and bathrooms; granite countertops in kitchen and bathroom; hard-wood floors in bedrooms; and carpeted staircase to master bedroom and bath. Furniture includes leather sofas, hard wood dining chairs and counter stools.

IMPORTANT: The home has a steep driveway, similar to many properties in the area. 4-wheel drive / All wheel drive vehicles are recommended for maneuvering the driveway. After Nov 1st 4-wheel or All- wheel vehicles are required.

Fishing out your front door, 2 State Parks within close driving distance, very clean and newly renovated. WiFi located in the cabin with direct access to trails, hiking, and the river. The town of Finland is close by so restaurants, bars, grocery and gas near the cabins but in a secluded location.
