The Neighborhood

It's the southern trailhead of the 48-mile Gandy Dancer State Trail, a scenic crushed-limestone bicycle trail named for the rail workers who rhythmically swung pickaxes and hammers made by the Gandy Tool Co.

The area is quiet and serene. There is also a crafting space that has 10 work stations, with office chairs for comfort. Come visit, enjoy the peace and quiet of the lake, go shopping for art and antiques, visit local wineries, downhill skiing and zipline parks are close, along with a fun outside waterpark. The Lodge sleeps 8. A must see!

A small unique urban “loft bedroom” that is close to Wild Mountain; Trollhaugen; Festival Theater; the Ice Age Trailhead; Interstate Park in WI and MN; the Gandy Dancer Trail; the Woolly Mountain Bike Trail; Cyclova Bike Shop; the St Croix River; Osceola; cafe, bars, and small grocery store within walking distance.. You’ll love my place because of the high ceilings, the uniqueness, the location, & the private cafe table outside.

The space:
This is a small studio bedroom w kitchenette, a private bathroom with toilet, vanity, and stand-up shower. The thermostat controls for the heat are in the bathroom. AC unit for the main room. There is a small kitchenette, dresser, hangers, TV, Wi-Fi, and access to a stone patio. Right off of main street in downtown St Croix Falls.

Guest access:
You will be given an electronic keycode and instructions to use this lock system the morning of check-in. You will use this keycode to lock and unlock the main door to the apartment. You may check-in without meeting us (which is why we are flexible on check-in time) but if you need anything, we are close by and can help you with anything.

Other things to note:
There are three apartments we rent out at 123 s Washington so if you are traveling with others and want to stay together, please also check out the listings for The Artist's Loft and The Peacock Loft. There are three patios that anyone can sit on and enjoy. Although we are off of Main Street, road noise is usually limited in the Copper Room but feel free to bring a fan or earplugs if very sensitive to noise - we want you to have a great sleep! This is a unique room and has exposed copper pipes (which is why it is decorated in a copper theme!) - please note that there may be small water-trickling sounds coming up the pipes (the room has 12 foot ceilings though so they are high-up) above. Do not be alarmed - this is normal. We just want you to be aware before booking so this doesn't upset you. Also, this apartment only has a small partial kitchen: Fridge, hot plate, air fryer microwave, sink, and cupboards. Plenty of room to store fresh/dry food for a weekened/week though.

Parking on the street is plentiful. Room is located down one flight of stairs.

This event is from 5-9pm on Fridays. We also have a gift shop on site along with bike rentals and electric polaris ranger rentals to cruise the trails of our 980 acres! If your into fishing, we only allow fly fishing but we do have fly rods for rent here on site!

You'll love our cabin in the woods! Once a historic mercantile, the Wissahickon Cabin has been transformed into a cozy cabin for 2 - 4 guests.

The cabin is situated in the forest and visible from the Gandy Dancer Trail. The front porch boasts an access path directly to the popular Woolly Bike Trail. Our cabin is secluded in the woods, but it's less than a 5-minute drive to downtown St Croix Falls, Interstate Park, dining, shopping, and entertainment. Enjoy a peaceful getaway in the north woods!

The space
The cabin is one room with a bedroom, a small dining area, and a living room space. In addition to the queen-sized bed, the couch has a fold-out air mattress that can accommodate up to 2 guests. It also boasts a grand bathroom area, complete with a jacuzzi tub. Enjoy relaxing on the front porch in a rocking chair. An antique-style gas fireplace adds to the cabin's romance and ambiance. A dresser and wardrobe provide ample storage space for your stay. The kitchen has a Keurig, a microwave, and a mini fridge for your convenience.

The cabin is on our personal property of 30 acres. Our personal home is also on the property, though the cabin is secluded.

Our guests have access to the Family Cabin and the 980 acres of grounds attached to the property. This includes a private lake filled with wild trout, a swimming raft, dock, a two person paddle boat, a canoe, 23 miles of hiking and biking trails, and outdoor fire pits. We have super fast Fiber rich wi-fi powered by Lakeland Communications!

From an early morning stroll around our private lake, a sip of water from our natural spring, or a drive through the miles of private trails with your rented electric ranger, our guests will find an endless amount of options for fun and relaxation. Our guests are welcomed to borrow one of our canoes or kayaks and catch some rays. If you would like to venture out and rent a pontoon for a day on the St. Croix River, we can help with that too. Whatever you are looking for we have you covered!

Other things to note
There are two other cabins on the property and lots of walking trails so you may run into our family or other guests. We also have offices on the property so we are generally around but we won't impede on your space and stay! Guests are welcome and encouraged to use the water toys found over by the lake. We have paddle boards, paddle boats, a swimming raft, kayaks and canoes in the summer. In the winter we have an ice skating rink (weather permitting) and you're welcome to fish in the winter or summer. We just ask that you don't drill holes in the rink! When on the lake in the winter please stay away from the dam on the west end of the lake and don't travel past the middle of the lake to the east. We have miles of walking trails and ask that you do not go past the “No Trespassing” signs and follow the maps in the cabin. HAVE FUN!

River Song Cottage is nestled along the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway, near downtown St. Croix Falls. Our home includes 2 bedrooms (1: queen bed, 2: twin over full bunk + twin trundle), 1 bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, open dining and living room area, and a large deck that overlooks the St. Croix River. The wooded area between our yard and the river is National Park Service land. Public walking paths can be accessed through the visitor center next door.

The space
Two bedrooms are available in River Song Cottage. The "Overlook Bedroom" contains a queen size canopy bed. The second bedroom, the "Chickadee Nest," holds a twin over full bunkbed, with an additional twin size trundle bed available below.

The full bathroom has a tub/shower, linens and hair dryer.

Our kitchen includes a full size refrigerator, stove/oven and dishwasher, as well as a microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and electric kettle.

The kitchen and dining rooms are in an open space, with a large table, chairs, couch, loveseat and a smart tv. We utilize a Roku guest system, which allows guests to safely access their own streaming services, as well as free Roku channels.

A highlight of River Song Cottage, is the spacious deck on the back of the house, overlooking the St. Croix River (seasonally) and our large backyard. Deck furniture and a propane grill are available for guest use, as well as a fire pit for bonfires and firewood.

Please note that the river view directly from our property is seasonal, as the foliage within the wooded area between our yard and the St. Croix River (owned by the National Park Service) is thick enough to obstruct views of the river from approximately May through September. During this time, our backyard remains gorgeous and relaxing, and river views are only a short walk away. :)

Guest access includes the entire first floor, deck, front and back yards. The basement and a garden shed are closed to guest access at this time.

Guests are allowed to include up to 2 dogs in their stay. We kindly request that guests clean up after their dogs both indoors and outdoors. A pet bed is available, and we ask that dogs are not allowed on to the guest beds.

Our cabin is on a 2 acre plot full of elms, ironwoods, and white pines overlooking Bridget Lake near St. Croix Falls and Balsam Lake, WI.

The cabin is a small build, but not quite a tiny home at 470 sq ft. It is perfect for 1-2 people who are looking for a cute little spot to enjoy (with pups, of course!). We designed and finished the cabin ourselves, so lots of love, care, and work went into every detail.

Recreation | in the summer, we do have 2 sit-on-top kayaks available for use. To get to the lake, you’ll need to drive to the public boat launch or brave the steep slope on our property. We haven’t built steps yet or added a dock yet. Thanks for your patience as we add more amenities!

In the winter, we have snowshoes available as well.

Local Attractions | Alkov is 10 minutes from Interstate State Park and Taylor’s Falls, 10 minutes from Trollhaugen ski area, 15 minutes from Franconia Sculpture Park, and 5 minutes from charming downtown Balsam Lake.

Guests are welcome to access the entire cabin, deck, fire pit, lawn, and woods around the house. Other than a locked shed used to store the host's belongings, the place is yours.

Other things to note
We have a great relationship with our neighbors and would like to keep it that way! Please keep dogs on leash and keep activities to a reasonable volume.

Our driveway is steep and can be icy and slippery during cold months. We keep it plowed, but a 4/AWD vehicle is highly recommended. In the event that you can't make it up the driveway, you are welcome to park in the small spot at the bottom of the hill and walk up.

We heat and cool our cabin with a heat pump mini split system. The AC works quite well in the summer. In the winter, this system only works down to -15 degrees. If the temp during your stay looks extremely frigid, I'll reach out to you to make sure you are comfortable heating the place with a wood stove or work with you to reschedule your stay!

We do some spraying for mosquitos, but you will need bug spray. Be prepared to see a deer or two, and practice safe food and trash storage to make sure the bears and pests hang out somewhere else. Please also do your best to close doors quickly so as to keep our guest list to humans and pups only.

We do have neighbors, but you’ll have your space as we are on 2 acres. Our neighbors have chickens and roosters, so you may hear some clucking! If you’re looking for off-grid vibes or complete seclusion, you may want to choose a different spot.

2 kayaks for you to use. We do have a very steep slope down to the lake, and do not have steps built quite yet. You may be able to make it if you're nimble! If you have a pickup, load these up and take them to the boat launch 1/4 mile down the road.
