Nice walks in both directions. Great for exploring. Old primitive mills and stone structures in the area. Birds, woodpeckers, nut hatches, finches, tufted titmouse, sparrows, owls and hawks, doves.

Entire home available. The layout is classic saltbox mixed with contemporary. The back living room is spacious with great views out side. The bedroom with the king bed is open and has a fireplace. The bedroom with the king bed is not enclosed, purposely designed open with the fireplace. It is three bedrooms, one is with a king, one with a queen and one with a twin size bed. There are three staircases one wooden one goes upstairs with full handrail, two are carpeted 6 steps with no handrails.

Owner will use the separate building on the property for stays 3 days or more.

Enjoy nature while staying in a quiet 1 bedroom attached suite. It includes a full kitchen with one bathroom, 1 king bed plus a queen futon and a dedicated workspace that is great for remote workers.

The unit is set on a 65 acre horse property with it's own trail system perfect for easy nature strolls or trail rides. We have up to 20 horses on the property. You might even notice a few outside your front window!

It's set back in the woods about a third of a mile, however it is a convenient location close to Amherst, Hampshire, UMass, Smith and Mt. Holyoke.

Guest access
There is a lovely gazebo and front lawn area with a bistro set and Adirondack chairs to relax in while taking in the sunrise (if you choose) while overlooking the horse pasture in the front yard.

We have a 20 stall horse barn that you're welcome to give yourself a self-guided tour of. Be sure to say hello to my wife if you see her in the barn! She also offers optional horsemanship lessons if you are interested.

Additionally there is a trail system on our property that connects with adjacent trails perfect for exploring.

- "I came to spend a couple days with my son who goes to college nearby. It was a cold damp weekend, but the place was warm and cozy. I found the space to be more than enough for me, but had the boys come to visit for one lunch and it was perfect. They enjoyed walking the property to see the horses (we are usually city folks ourselves.) I did not get to meet the hosts, but everything was explained clearly about check-in and I had no issues at all. The bed was very comfortable for me and the shower was excellent. I was exhausted from some difficult travel days and couldn't have been more comfortable in this rental. I would absolutely recommend, especially if you love horses. They were a healthy gorgeous looking stable and one seemed very happy to get a few pats on the head from me. I'd say it's perfect for a couple, or young family with small children. They will be hearing from me again."

Pelham is a small, rural town. A few relevant notes:

First, I keep honeybees. The apiary is far away from the camper, on the other side of my house, and you shouldn't see any more bees around than you would otherwise. However, if you are allergic to bee stings, please use caution and come prepared with an epi-pen just in case!

Second, the property is rich with wildlife, big and small. Some regular visitors include deer, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, opossums, hawks, bobcats, moose, and black bear. If you're unused to or uncomfortable with the thought of larger wild animals being so close by, please use caution after dark, e.g when walking your dog or back and forth to your car. Use a flashlight, make noise (like singing or playing music on your phone), and remain aware of your surroundings. Also, please be vigilant about leaving any food, pet food, or trash outdoors overnight. Problems between humans and wild animals in this area are extremely rare. Almost all the animals on the property will hide or run If they see a human, and they almost never are seen during daylight.

Third, one of the things I love about the Town of Pelham is that they encourage "dark skies" practices to minimize light pollution. For example, please make sure as many as possible outdoor lights are turned off after dark, and if at all possible, didn't leave on outdoor lights overnight while you're sleeping.

Finally, please know that this is a camper (or RV) and that the property is located approximately 1200 feet above sea level. That means that my property is significantly colder and gets more snow than Amherst and other communities in the area. Propane heat and a hot water heater are included in the camper, not the walls are thin, and water is piped in via an outdoor (although insulated!) hose that can freeze when the temperature drops close to or below 32°F. I do everything I can to make sure everything is up and running whenever possible, but Mother Nature runs the show.

The Thomas Dick House was built in 1740, the second oldest house in the small colonial town of Pelham, Massachusetts. Early New England colonials had originally two rooms: a "Hall," for cooking and sleeping, and a "Parlour," for entertaining guests - which is where you'll be staying.

This is a small but completely private room with a dedicated entrance and a private, attached (en suite) bathroom with a shower. You might *hear* hints of our being in the other part of the house, but you likely won't see us, unless we happen to run into each other outside.

Microwave, mini fridge/freezer, popcorn popper, wine glasses, coffeemaker, kettle, dishes, napkins and cutlery. Please let me know if you'd like me to leave a little pitcher of whole milk or half-and-half in the fridge for your coffee, or a little butter for popcorn.

Is the property scent-sensitive?
Yes. Under the Hemlocks is a scent-sensitive friendly property. To ensure a comfortable environment for all guests, please avoid using strong scents such as perfumes, sprays, or heavily fragranced products during your stay.

Is smoking allowed?
No. Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on the property. Any evidence of smoking will result in an additional $150 charge.

Who is allowed to stay overnight?
Only guests listed on the reservation may stay overnight.

Can I have visitors?
Yes, visitors are welcome between 10a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Can I bring my fish, iguana, or chinchilla?
No, sorry—no pets or exotic companions are allowed.

Can I arrive early or leave late?
Early arrivals or later departures are sometimes possible if mentioned when booking. These requests depend on the reservation schedule, so they can’t always be guaranteed. Last-minute requests normally aren’t possible, as time is needed to prepare the space with care for each guest.

Does the primary booking guest need to stay for the entire reservation?
Yes. The primary guest who booked the reservation must remain for the full duration of the stay.

Are there quiet hours?
Yes. Quiet hours are observed from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. to ensure a peaceful environment for all.

How many guests can stay at Under the Hemlocks?
The studio guest suite is designed for a maximum of 2 guests. It is a small, open-plan space intended for 2 humans only.

Is the suite suitable for children?
No. The space is not equipped with child safety measures such as safety gates or child-proof locks. For safety reasons, the suite is unsuitable for babies or children under 12.

Is there an extra bed available?
Yes. A space-saving chair/bed combination converts into a European small double bed. If you require this second bed, there is an additional charge of $40 per stay.
Please note: The suite is an open-plan studio. Adding the second bed makes the space a little smaller, and the sleeping area is not separate from the main bed.

Do you provide tea, coffee, bedding, towels, and paper products?
Yes. Tea, coffee, bedding, towels, and essential paper products are provided for your stay.

Are there lots of kitchen essentials?
Yes. Guests often comment on how well-equipped the kitchen is, with plenty of essentials provided.

What should I know about the bathtub?
The suite features a deep soaking tub with a rain shower. It’s perfect for relaxation, but please be mindful of the tub’s depth when stepping in and out.

No. The space is intentionally designed without a TV to encourage a calm, relaxing, and Zen-like atmosphere. Instead, books, puzzles, games, and drawing materials are provided.

How do I work the 3-in-1 table or remotes for fireplace candles, and other amenities?
The coffee table and remotes have QR codes linking to short tutorials that explain how to use them.

Is there an iron in the suite, and what are the options for removing wrinkles from clothes?
Due to limited space, an iron isn’t provided, but a clothes steamer is available in the suite for your convenience. I’m happy to iron garments by arrangement.

Damages
Normal wear and tear from gentle, everyday use is expected and never charged. However, costs may be applied for damage that goes beyond this—such as broken items, stains, burns, or other clear signs of misuse or neglect.

Is housekeeping available during my stay?
Housekeeping is available for extended stays. Please arrange this service during the booking process so it can be scheduled in advance.

Surroundings & Seasonal Notes

Will it be completely quiet during my stay?
The suite is located in a cosy, wooded residential neighbourhood. While the retreat is designed for peace and tranquillity, occasional sounds may be heard. These could include the host’s dog, grandchildren playing, or normal household activity. Neighbourhood sounds such as lawn maintenance, snow removal, or delivery vans are also possible and beyond my control.

Can I use the outdoor kitchen year-round?
During winter, the outdoor kitchen is limited to the worktop only, as the sink and water supply are shut down to prevent freezing.

Is the Writer’s Retreat open all year?
Yes, The Writer’s Retreat is open year‑round, though access may be paused during periods of extreme weather.

Will I encounter wildlife or insects?
The suite is nestled among the Hemlocks and is part of a vibrant woodland ecosystem. Despite regular treatments, you may occasionally see insects. Wildlife such as bears, foxes, or possums may also be spotted in the area—they are part of the natural surroundings.

What's Under the Hemlocks cancellation policy?
Under the Hemlocks has a firm, non‑negotiable cancellation policy, so travel insurance is strongly recommended to protect against unforeseen changes.

The space
Wide plank floors throughout set a warm tone in our rustic farmhouse . We have two or three rooms available. One has two twin beds, the other has a queen sized bed. Both overlook our small pasture and the beautiful forest beyond.

We are located right next door to a beautiful park for long walks and runs in a beautiful forest setting and along the Ware River.
Our small farm is on the edge of an old mill town in the Pioneer valley. We have a small dog who is well socialized.

In addition to the park, other nearby attractions include The Salem Cross Inn, Palmer Motor Sports Park, Quabin Reservoir, Sturbridge Village and The Brimfield Antique Show and Flea Market, amazing Fly fIshing on the Swift River, and the natural beauty of New England. UMASS Amherst is about 30 minutes away.

Our place is a small paradise in all seasons, especially autumn. We also have seasonal studio space for painting and writing available for an additional fee.

The common area has an open view of the surrounding forest hills and the shopping plaza and is set up with 2 coffee tables and 2 sets of comfortable chairs. Here you can do your work or just relax and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.
For your convenience, there is a desk with a comfortable executive chair in the living room.
Free WiFi provides fast internet to the entire space that is suitable for work. The access passcode will be provided on your day of arrival. 50" Philips HD TV in the living room with Roku, provides free streaming of 100s of movies, shows, and News. Streaming services such as Apple TV, Amazon Prime, HULU and etc. are available as well. However, you will need to enter and use your own streaming account for these services.

Guest access
We provide extra security and safety for our guests by having a passcode Keypad entrance to the house's common enclosed porch. The access passcode will be provided on your day of arrival. The porch leads to the entrance of the 1st-floor apartment and another entrance to the 2nd-floor. The enclosed porch is shared with the host and the guests.
Your private space is your apartment.
Behind the house, You will find a roomy yard with pine trees for short walks. If you enjoy playing golf, there is a flagstick with a golf hole for mini-golf practice. Feel free to use the grill and the outdoor table with benches as well.
The hosts live in the next house across the driveway and will be available if you need anything, but we will not bother you.

Our home has an open floor plan with a full kitchen, living room, and bathroom on the first floor. Both bedrooms are upstairs with access to the deck from the master. The home comes with a private yard and lots of parking for those bringing a trailer or mobile home. Enjoy a tasty meal on the grill while sitting under our apple tree or gather around the fire pit for an evening of smores. There is plenty of room for a game of bocce ball or yard darts.

We provide coffee, milk, OJ, and muffins to enjoy on our deck while relaxing in the beauty of the surrounding woods. There is also popcorn to munch on while sitting by the fire pit or playing our selection of board games (Monopoly, Scrabble, Jenga, Twister, Uno, or a puzzle of Massachusetts). Charcoal is provided for the grill and a bundle of wood for the fire pit (April - October) upon request.

We provide a complete selection of health and beauty aids in the bathroom vanity in case our guests forget to pack an essential. Our freezer is stocked with ice and the fridge has basic condiments. We offer a shelf of basic seasonings and 2 to 3 types of coffee, assorted teas, and hot chocolate.

We ask guests to please not leave dirty dishes in the sink and to please put wet towels in the tub. Other than that our home is yours to enjoy. Our goal is to to put the "B" in Airbnb.

California vibe in a small Massachusetts country town. This remodeled high end home was once a carriage house in the 1800s. Nestled in the center of Hardwick,Ma this house is truly a centerpiece.

The space
Reverse floor plan with kitchen, 1/2 bath and entertainment upstairs and bedrooms and tv room on first floor. There are 3 bedrooms in the main house, each with a full private bathrooms. Master bedroom and bath have full size king bed. The two other bedrooms have split king so can either be 2 twins or together as 1 California king. Currently set up as 1 Cali king and 2 twins in the other room. There is an attached apartment with a queen bed and private bath as well that can be used as part of the house or not, depending on how many you have sleeping there. Some of the blinds are tricky please be gentle with them.

Driveway is narrow. We own the house next door and guests have access to both driveways in order to loop around and make it easier to pull out.
