Bring your PFD, fishing rod, and water shoes. Two Kayaks are available to paddle about - or you can coordinate with your hosts for a 2+ hour kayaking trip on the creek. Extended trips may be dependent on rainfall. Additional charge will apply.

Relax in one of two hammocks in the front yard or lounge down by the Creek. Spend the cool mountain evenings roasting marshmallows by our natural rock fire pit - firewood is provided for guests. Watch fireflies dance among the trees, while you sip a glass of local wine from our two-tiered deck.

Virginia wildlife abounds - walk the trails along the creek, woodlands, and meadows of the Cabin's 30 acres. Sit quietly and you may just see a doe and her fawn, wild turkeys, or a fox or mink. Don't sit quietly and you might see a squirrel. ;) Enjoy wild edibles when in season: Wineberries, Hickory Nuts, Walnuts, and Pawpaws. Yum!

The house is on a wooded lot near the end of a quiet road. A large screened porch faces the river and is great for dining, board games or simply relaxing and listening to the sounds of nature. The porch has lighting as well as ceiling fans to keep things cool. There is additional outdoor seating on the deck and a fire pit just down the back steps. The area is home to abundant wildlife and small creatures including deer, river otter, ground hogs, a variety of birds, bear as well as many insects and reptiles so prepare to convene with nature!

The Play Garden is a charming renovated country home nestled on 20 acres in the heart of Horse/Hunt country at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in historic Clarke County, Virginia. From the large veranda on top of the plateau you have the best view in the county of the bending Shenandoah River and there are up to 150 boxwoods of all varieties on the property. The house is surrounded by wineries and historic sites located an hour and 15 minutes west of Washington, DC, 25 minutes west of Middleburg/Upperville, 20 minutes east of Winchester, 10 min from Millwood, and 10 min from Berryville. The main house, which has been recently renovated, was built in 1908 and has been in our family since 1920 and maintained with loving care. The adjacent guest house is more contemporary and has the 4th bedroom.

In addition to the view there is a swimming pool and total privacy from the outside world, with basically no houses in view. The main house has three bedrooms (two kings and twin full size beds), a sleeper sofa in the den, 4 baths (two full and two half) and a large kitchen with double oven, washer/dryer, etc while the adjacent guest house has one full bath, a king bedroom and a sleeper sofa in the living area. Both are tastefully furnished, including many antiques.

My mom and I sat out on the beautiful deck every night and morning to admire the beautiful view. I cannot say enough about the cabin and the owners. They were very responsive to my questions. Situated in a rural country setting overlooking forested areas and pastures, we were able to sip coffee on the expansive deck before sunrise while listening to a rooster wake up the forest residents (i.e., birds that then flocked to the bird feeders and deer and rabbit that grazed on the lawn). The property was clean and well maintained with more than enough space for our family of six adults to spread out and read, watch TV, play pool, table tennis or darts, or just relax on the deck and enjoy the view. The property was fully furnished with the essentials (i.e., bedding, toiletries, kitchen appliances, and even coffee), and was ready for our arrival. We did bring a prepared dinner and breakfast with us so we didn't have to shop for groceries until the day after we arrived; the local grocery store is about four miles away as are several farm markets. Making our stay even more relaxing, we were able to keep our dogs out of the house while having them eat, sleep, and relax in the enclosed, dog-friendly, furnished breezeway! Our dogs especially enjoyed the opportunity to run and play in the expansive dog run, and we could grab a couple waste bags from the property-furnished supply as we headed out the door. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property, and will make plans to return next year."

Welcome to this unique mountain getaway in Bluemont, at the northern tip of the Blue Ridge mountains. The ~100 year old log cabin has been restored, yet leaves many of the original features like the open ceiling that showcases beams harvested from the mountain.

The Cabin (main room) has a good-sized addition that provides a full kitchen with new appliances, a full bathroom, a sitting room/den with a washer/dryer, and a cozy bedroom with a comfy queen bed and all linens. For added privacy, there is a separate driveway and parking space for 2 autos.

We are in eastern Clarke county, just over the Loudoun County border in Northwestern Virginia. In the heart of Virginia’s wine country, we are ~ 5 minutes from:
- Bluemont Vineyard, Dirt Farm Brewery, Great Country Farms, Bluemont Station Brewery and Winery, and Bear Chase Brewery.
- And within a 20-minute drive, you can reach these beautiful vineyards: Breaux, Tarara, Sunset Hills, Notaviva, Veramar, Chrysalis, Delaplane and many more.

Here you can be as busy as you want to be, or not.
- Hiking? Bear’s Den will lead you to the Appalachian Trail.
- Shopping? 20 minutes to the Leesburg Outlets. ~30 minutes to Middleburg or Millwood for antiques.

And your family? Kids are welcome; there is one queen bed in the bedroom, and there are 2 inflatable twin mattresses available. One is 13" high for smaller children; the other is 18" high when inflated. Dogs are welcome, too but please only one and less than 50 pounds. It’s very important that your pup stay on lead when outside – there are many furry friends to chase, even for the best trained dog.

- "A little buggy in the area and house, but that’s nature, right?! Besides that, beautiful place, can’t wait to come back!" - "The house was absolutely stunning - very clean, well decorated, comfortable and cozy, with every amenity you can imagine. The views from the porch were so beautiful and we loved watching the sunset. Service was patchy near the house (in the house the wifi was perfect) so I recommend loading up the map to make sure you know where you’re going towards the end. Host was very responsive and accommodating. We tubed the river and went to Bear Chase Brewing and loved both activities! Went into Front Royal for groceries vs the close small shop (recommend this if you need full cooking groceries) but it was an easy drive and good store. We’d come back for sure!"

Come to the Blue Ridge Mountains and refresh your spirit! Our vintage farmhouse is in the heart of Virginia’s wine country, minutes from vineyards, breweries and wedding venues. Enjoy our local wines on the back deck watching spectacular sunsets and wait for the stars to light up the sky. Walk to the Appalachian Trail from the Bear’s Den trailhead one mile away. Play in the Shenandoah River a few minutes away. Middleburg, Purcellville, Leesburg and Civil War sites nearby.
As you travel up the mountain on our Scenic Virginia Byway, you start to see the stacked stone walls from the Revolutionary War era. You’ve entered the Bear’s Den Historic District, 1900’s era homes built as summer retreats for Washingtonians escaping the summer heat. The Bluemont train carried them out of the city where they were met at the station by horse drawn wagons to take them up the mountain. Bishop’s Gate was built in 1910 as the parsonage for the bishop who ran the neighboring church. The charming cottage was restored in 2018 by the owners who live on the adjacent property. The house is thoroughly updated while staying true to its original form. Original heart pine floors, bead board walls and original furnishings offer lots of charm. All kitchen supplies (including coffee for the Keurig coffeemaker) are included. Online work or school with reliable internet. Games, puzzles, books and a record player are available.
The screened porch, complete with porch swing and rockers, is surrounded by mature boxwoods- perfect nesting sites for the songbirds that welcome you. Under the bistro lights on the back deck, a table for outside dining seats six and Adirondack chairs overlook the fire pit and barn. The rope swing in the 200 year old tulip poplar tree delights all ages.
We are situated on 20 wooded acres perfect for getting kids in touch with nature and off screens!
S’mores supplies provided for the outdoor fire pit and all firewood is provided. Charcoal for the grill is also provided. Winter weather advisory: weather on the mountain is very unpredictable, you will need 4 wheel drive or chains. The driveway is 400 feet down the mountain and ice makes it very difficult driving.
