Mt. Home Cabbin - First floor
Bed & Breakfast
Warren County

The "Cabbin" at Mountain Home is cozy and comfortable. This listing reserves 2 full-sized futons, separated from shared space by curtains. See '"Cabbin" at Mountain Home B&B' to reserve whole building or 'The Game Room at Mountain Home' for a great 1-2 person option.

Just 120 yards east of the Appalachian Trail. 4 miles from great restaurants and more in Front Royal. Less than 5 miles walk/drive to Shenandoah National Park. Shenandoah River nearby. Breakfast, occupancy and meals tax included.

The space
The “Cabbin" is a renovated historic building that was once a log cabin. It now looks like a small brick building, but the dimensions* are still the same, and the logs are still inside the walls. (*If you are over 5'7", you'll need to duck to get in the front door!)

The Cabbin has two floors which can be booked separately using this "Cabbin - First Floor" and the "Cabbin - Second Floor" listing. If you'd like to reserve the whole Cabbin, see '"Cabbin" at Mountain Home B&B'. We also list on Airbnb 4 private rooms with private bathrooms in the Main House: Annie's Room, Gardners' Room, Rebecca's Parlor and the Game Room. Our other inexpensive option for 1 or 2 people is the informal but comfortable "The Game Room at Mountain Home", with carpeting, a decorative fireplace, antique foosball table, locked door and private half bathroom.

This "Cabbin - first floor" listing is just for the 2 full-sized futons on the first floor, separated from the shared kitchen/dining area by a partial wall, and ceiling to floor curtains for visual privacy. Your space also has a small library and curtained windows. Although listed as "shared room", we will not put anyone from another group in this first floor space with you. The space has lights and air conditioning (or heating) depending upon the season. Each bed has its own reading light.

The small shared bathroom at the top of the stairs is accessible without going through the upstairs sleeping area. The bathroom is the only room in the building with a door and complete privacy. The rest of the building is in an open configuration. There is no need for second floor guests to go through the first floor sleeping area nor for first floor guests to go through the second floor sleeping area.

The shared kitchen, located adjacent to the first floor sleeping area, is small but fully functional.

For before and after pictures of the (historically named) "Cabbin" and Main House, look for us at: Mountain Home in Front Royal.

Guest access
Those staying in the Cabbin have access to the bathroom on the second floor and the kitchen and dining area on the first floor. The bathroom is the only room in the building with a door, so the rest of the building is in an open configuration. However, the second floor guests do not go through the first floor sleeping area, and the first floor guests do not go through the second floor sleeping area. The Cabbin has it's own small patio and charcoal grill. You are also welcome to come up and enjoy the Main House, including the patio and fire pit.

Other things to note
If you are hiking the Appalachian Trail (AT), or just travelling light, you'll find hiker-friendly details like boot dryers, linens, blankets and towels, shampoo, creme rinse and soap, hair dryer, shaver, loaner clothes, laundry, WiFi, shuttles into town, breakfast, etc.

If you are planning to bring a dog or other pet, please let us know when requesting your reservation. We only allow dogs in the Cabbin, generally 1 dog per night, and there is a dog fee of $5/dog/night plus some extra rules to keep things clean, protect the building, and be respectful of other guests.

During the summer months, when they are open, we can shuttle you to the 4H Center for a swim in their pool (their fees are about $5/day). Ask us about the swimming hole, waterfalls and nearby hikes and getting out on the river. Wineries, a meadery, a brewery and fine dining are just down the road.

Cozy Shenandoah River Cabin (10min to Nat’l Park!)
Bed & Breakfast
South Fork Shenandoah River

Come get away to our cozy guest cabin, just 10 mins from Shenandoah National Park and a 5 min walk to the Shenandoah River! Perfect for a peaceful stay in a gorgeous natural setting. High ceilings, open concept, wood panelling and a private enclosed patio. Close to vineyards, breweries and outdoor attractions.

(Please note, there isn't a full kitchen)

If you have more than 3 guests, please let us know. We have a second cabin on the property that we can offer as an additional space.

The space
A couple things to note:

- The cabin is set up as one large studio space with an open concept bedroom and living area. The space is flooded with light with an uncluttered, calm feel. The bathroom is spacious and has a large shower and a big jacuzzi tub.

- The space has a full-sized bed with linen sheets. We have extra blankets in the space if you need them!

- There is a sitting area in which to read or chat, and a dining nook that doubles as a workspace. (It's our favorite place to work from when the space isn't rented!) There is a daybed in the main space, which also makes an excellent napping or reading spot.

- Our guest cabin does not have a full kitchen; our kitchenette set up is included in the photos. It includes a mini-fridge, microwave and full tea and coffee making provisions including electric kettle, pour over coffee supplies, wine glasses, dishes and silverware for any meals you bring in. We've also set up a dishwashing station in the bathroom, but feel free to let us know if you'd prefer to have them washed in our dishwasher and we can make arrangements. There are a lot of great food options in the area; we've included a list of our favorites in our guide.

- You will be renting our guest cabin, which is on our property next to our main home. There is a separate entrance to the guest cabin and that entire space will be completely private to you. Our deck faces away from the cabin, so your enclosed patio will be private. (Note, there is a covered breezeway -- essentially a long hallway -- that connects our home to the front porch of the guest cabin so that it's easy to get to and fro when it's cold. There is a lock that deadbolts on each side.)

- We do not have a TV in the cabin, however we do have wi-fi provided by Comcast if you'd to enjoy Netflix from your own device during your stay. We also have the cabin stocked with our favorite games and books.

- A public boat dock is within walking distance (5 mins) from the end of our driveway. We don't have kayaks for you to use, but we'd be happy to suggest some local outfitters if you don't have your own equipment.

- We will most likely be home in the main house, but it's a big lot and we will make sure to give you your privacy. We're always accessible via the Airbnb app if you have any questions. We do have a dog (a very friendly beagle mix); she's always either inside or in the fenced in area off our deck, which is not visible from your cabin during your stay.

- We are located off a road with not much local traffic (right after our house the road becomes a private road maintained by our HOA), so it's nice and quiet.

- We've put together a guide to Front Royal if you'd like to get more familiar with the area (the link is under my host profile!) We have a more extensive guest guide that'll be shared upon check-in.

Guest access
- The path to the cabin is on a state maintained road, so it is paved and relatively easy to drive in all weather conditions. (The last 5 minutes of the drive are a little windy if you're used to driving wider city roads; take caution on your first drive.) Our driveway is gravel. Just pass our house begins the private road maintained by our HOA (Stoney Bottom), which dead-ends. Please keep us in our neighbor's good graces by not heading in that direction :)

- You're welcome to roam the wooded area around the cabin. We've marked our property lines with signs; please respect our neighbors' privacy by not roaming further :)

- We've included some suggestions of some nearby hikes if you'd like to explore the area!

Other things to note
- We have a two-day minimum stay set up, but please send us a message if you're looking for a shorter stay. Depending on our schedule, we may occasionally be able to accommodate a one-night stay.

- We may be able to accommodate early check-ins and late check-outs depending on our schedule, for an additional fee. Send us a message and we can see what we can do!

- The space is child friendly, but is not child proofed.

- Smoking is not permitted in the cabin.

- Our nightly fee includes a 5% tax charged by Warren County (which is currently not separately collected by Airbnb; the taxes collected during check out are state taxes).

You'll still find hiker-friendly details like boot dryers, a shaver, linens, laundry, shampoo, soap, a ride into town, breakfast, etc.

Other things to note
Guests can hike in from the Appalachian Trail, just north of Shenandoah National Park, or drive in and park for free.

If you drive in, please be aware that GPS might direct you to the old entrance. We recommend following our directions posted on this listing in Airbnb instead. Our driveway is directly across from where Route 718/Lake Front Road/ comes into Route 522/Remount Road. Once on our driveway, stay right at the fork and immediately go left to park on the 2-car asphalt lot across from the Cabbin. Extra parking is available - please ask. Please do not park on the grass.

The Virginia Breeze bus (part of Megabus) provides access from Washington, DC and Dulles Airport, and we can shuttle you from the bus stop in Front Royal to Mountain Home for no additional cost.

We also provide a shuttle into Front Royal for dinner, post office, resupply, etc. You can leave a car and shuttle to a hiking spot ("slack pack") for a small fee.

When the 4-H Center is open, we can shuttle you to the 4H Center for a swim in their pool (their fees are about $5/day). Wineries and fine dining are just down the road and down the trail. Ask us about great trail hikes, river excursions and where there is a swimming hole.
