Come and enjoy outstanding Moroccan hospitality with a multilingual family of experienced hosts. You'll stay in our spacious and tastefully decorated guest room (with private bathroom) in our house built in 2022. We provide (complementary) breakfast items every morning. We live in a charming and peaceful town close to Washington D.C. The nearest metro station (Rockville Downtown) is an 8 min walk. Kindly note that we have two small children, including a 2-years old toddler who is an early riser.
The space
We are a family of four (a couple with their two children) who speak English, French, Moroccan Arabic and Sango. My wife and I have had the privilege of hosting travelers from the 4 corners of the world and the United States, first in Boston (MA) from 2015 to 2017 and then in Rockville (MD) since 2022. We are currently offering Airbnb travelers a 10-square-meter room (with private bathroom) on the first floor of our brand-new home (built in 2022). The room has a queen-size bed (with a Casper mattress purchased in 2023), a work area with desk and desk chair, and a spacious and orderly reach-in closet. The room can accommodate a maximum of two people and a baby under two. We have a travel cot that can be made available to parents traveling with infants who can easily fit into the room. The private bathroom opposite the bedroom has a bathtub with walk-in shower. On the same floor is the laundry room (with washing machine and tumble dryer) to which travelers will also have access. Please note that the guest room is on the same floor as the parents' and children's rooms, and that you'll have to climb approximatively 20 steps to reach the floor where the guest room is located.
During your stay with us, you'll enjoy central air conditioning and heating, ultra-fast WIFI, and our garden.
We live in a quiet residential neighborhood that is part of downtown Rockville, but please note that our home is located on a street corner. As a result, and even though we have soundproofed windows, there will undoubtedly be times when you can still hear a car driving by on the side of the road. We are a 7-minute walk from the nearest park/green space/children's playground, an 8-minute walk from Rockville station (on the red metro line) and a 5-minute drive from the nearest shopping center with supermarket, restaurants and boutiques. We're also a 15-minute walk from all the trendy stores and restaurants (from Spanish tapas to sushi to Lebanese, etc.) that downtown Rockville has to offer. We're about a 15-minute drive from the National Institute of Health (NIH) and downtown Bethesda, and a 30-minute drive from Northwest DC (home of the Smithsonian Zoo) and historic Georgetown. We're a 25-minute drive from Ronald Reagan Airport (DCA), a 30-minute drive from Dulles Airport and a 40-minute drive from BWI. Generally speaking, we're just a short subway ride on the red line from Friendship Heights (six stops), American University (seven stops), University of the District of Columbia (eight stops) and Georgetown.
We're a 25-minute drive from Ronald Reagan Airport (DCA), a 30-minute drive from Dulles Airport and a 40-minute drive from BWI. Generally speaking, we're a short subway ride on the red line from Friendship Heights (six stops), American University (seven stops), University of the District of Columbia (eight stops), Adams Morgan (nine stops) and Dupont Circle (ten stops, equivalent to a 30 min train ride).
To make your stay as pleasant and relaxing as possible, we provide our guests with the following products/accessories: towels, shampoo/soap, iron, hair dryer, laundry detergent and cleaning products. In addition, we provide you free of charge with the foodstuffs you need to prepare a continental breakfast during your stay (bread, jam, milk, orange juice, butter, yoghurt, etc.).
During your stay with us, you'll have access to the following shared spaces located on the ground floor of our house: the kitchen, the living room (with TV and fireplace), the pantry and the shower room. In addition, the kitchen is fully equipped with small appliances such as a blender, electric kettle, Nespresso coffee maker and toaster, and kitchen utensils such as pots, pans, mixing bowls, etc. We also offer free tea bags (green and other varieties), Nespresso coffee capsules and cookies, as well as cooking oil and a wide range of spices.
As for parking, you can either park in our driveway (which might mean we'll have to coordinate in advance to move our respective cars out of the house) or you can park on the street without restriction (which is also a very safe place).
Please let us know in advance if you are traveling with a baby, and we will be happy to provide you with a free stroller, toys and books to make your stay (and hers!) as comfortable as possible.
Guest access
During your stay with us, you'll have access to the following shared areas located on the ground floor of our house: the kitchen, the living room (with TV and fireplace), the pantry and the shower room.
On the second floor of our house, where the travelers' bedroom is located, you'll have exclusive access to your own bedroom and bathroom. You'll share the laundry room with us.
During your stay
Our interactions really do depend on your needs. We're here to make your stay as pleasant and relaxing as possible. Therefore, if you prefer to communicate with us by phone or Airbnb chat, that's fine with us and you can expect a response within the hour during the day (unless we have a major impediment). If you prefer to speak to us in person, we are available from 8am to 8pm (unless it's an emergency of course, in which case please contact us immediately, even outside these hours). Please note that my wife Sarah works from home every day of the week.
As mentioned above, we have two children aged 7 years old and 2 years old. We strive to raise them so they constantly demonstrate kindness and respect for others (and their space) and will do our utmost to ensure that they maintain a reasonable level of background noise during the times they are at home (they are enrolled all day at school and nursery). Kindly note that our 2 years old boy is an early riser (wakes up every morning at 6 am) so you will likely hear him. This is why we provide our guests with ear plugs to mitigate the noise and so they can sleep as peacefully as possible.
Other things to note
Like stated in the description, kindly keep in mind that you will be staying with a family with two relatively small children and the house is not completely soundproof (this downside is reflected in the price per night). As such, you are likely to hear our family simply "living" in the house. We provide free of charge a box of ear plugs for our guests to use throughout their stay and do our best to be mindful of the noise we make. If you are looking for an extremely quiet place, our home might not be the best fit for you.

PARKING:
PARKING ON THE STREET IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE
Parking in front of my house is fully available on the weekends, and outside of the hours of 9am to 5pm on the weekdays, Monday through Friday.
PARKING ON THE STREET PARALLEL TO MINE, HEMPSTEAD AVE, TOWARDS THE BACK.
Parking Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm requires that you are put on my electronic parking permit in order to park on the street in front of my house, OR you park on Hempstead Ave, which is the street parallel to my street (which is Garfield Street) and just beyond my backyard neighbor, on the other side of the short walking path. Let me explain how to get to that open parking area.
In order to have something to put into your GPS, to find the block that I am referring to, please put in:
8629 Hempstead Ave.
(This is the house just behind my house.)
You will see that there are many available places to park along that block defined by house numbers from 8608 to 8629 on Hempstead Ave.
It is the block with:
8629 Hempstead
8627 Hempstead
8625 Hempstead
8623 Hempstead
8621 Hempstead
8619 Hempstead
8617 Hempstead
8615 Hempstead
8613 Hempstead
8611 Hempstead
8609 Hempstead
You can park anywhere on that block, on either side of the street, without having to worry about a parking violation. Do read the signs to confirm this, as well.
The way to drive there from my house is that you take a right out of my driveway, going south on Garfield Street. Take a right at the first Street, at the stop sign onto McKinley Street. Then go a short block to the first street, and take a right onto Hempstead Avenue.
Park close to the highest numbers given, like 8629 and 8627 Hempstead Ave. Those are the closest to the walking path which goes to my house.
REGISTERING YOUR CAR FOR A PARKING PERMIT:
This is something that I need to do for you, because you would be on my parking permit and only residents can obtain parking permits. I have the maximum of two, for my guests.
If you are coming with a car - this includes a rental car. They require pretty comprehensive information. To register your car for an electronic parking permit, I will need the following information:
YOU: Name, email, phone number.
YOUR CAR: make, model, year, color, license plate number, state of the license plate.
METRO to DC - and other Metro-served locations:
There are two Red Line Metros either a long walk (1.5 miles to the Medical Center Metro on a pretty wooded path, and 1.7 miles to the Bethesda Metro) or a short Uber or a short bus ride away. The bus you would take is number 47, it is 1.5 blocks from my house, north on Greentree, and it is $1.
To DOWNTOWN BETHESDA:
Downtown Bethesda is a fun, happening, quaint, and sophisticated town with over 150 restaurants - there is something for everyone! It is a short bus ride (#47), a short Uber ride or a long walk away. Once in Downtown Bethesda, there is a free "Circular 8" bus to help you get around Bethesda. Enjoy!
NEIGHBORHOOD:
It is a lovely neighborhood to walk and jog in! Just step out the front door and enjoy the peaceful tree-lined streets in this established neighborhood! Walk "behind" the house to find the great playground equipment of the local elementary school. Yes, you may borrow my tennis racquets to play tennis on the free public tennis courts!
SUMMARY:
There is easy street parking all around, with the neighborhood parking permit which I provide for you, or parking on the street behind me - Hempstead Ave. When you come, initially, before you have the permit, please pull into the driveway to unload. (The permit is needed for street parking M-F 9-5. All other times you can park on the street without a permit.
There are two Red Line Metros either a long walk (both are 1.6 miles) or a short Uber or a short bus ride away (bus number 47).
Other things to note
(SPECIAL TEMPORARY NOTE: The MONTHLY discount, when it includes January 2025, can be negotiated for a much lower total.)
Beyond your suite, also enjoy the amenities that MY HOME AND IMMEDIATE NEIGHBORHOD offer:
• enjoy freshly picked herbs, such as mint leaves, rubbed between your fingers, for an invigorating scent experience. Please enjoying picking and using the rosemary and fennel plants in the front garden and the mint along the fence to the right of the house.
• bask in the fresh air at the outdoor deck table, and watch the squirrels play.
• keep your car safe and nearby with ample on-street parking. (Open parking on the weekends and you need a permit for M-F 9-6 street parking, which I will provide for you.)
• stretch your legs and relax your mind in the pretty neighborhood, great for walking and jogging and finding a variety of “Little Libraries” close by!
• exercise in the outside recreational facilities of the elementary school, just beyond our backyard, with 2 public tennis courts, a soccer field, basketball courts and 4 separate playground centers (great for creative adult workouts, too!) (I have tennis racquets and balls that you can borrow!)
• For a Grub-Hub delivery fee you can have a delicious local meal at the door in as little as 25 minutes. Bethesda is renown, for their restaurants! The heart of Bethesda is a 1.5 mile walk or a quick Uber drive away. Enjoy!
CLEAN WATER
Let all of your drinking water be clean Reverse Osmosis water! Reverse Osmosis water is supplied to the rooms and the suites and is always available in the kitchen, in the dedicated faucet at the sink to the left.
Let all of your showering and cleaning water be chlorine-free! The house is equipped with a whole-house water softening system which eliminates most of the chlorine and other toxic elements commonly found in public tap water. (This is on top of Bethesda already having quite good tap water!!)
CLEAN AIR
The filters on the central heat and central air units are inspected and changed regularly. The ducts are professionally cleaned regularly. There are 2 professional-grade room air-purifiers, called AirDoctor and several other smaller units, which you can request for your room. (This is on top of an already relatively green home with mostly wood furniture, and hardwood floors, with mostly wool area rugs.)
CLEAN SURFACES
Touch-points are sanitized regularly.
A DEVELOPING HEALTH HOME TOURISM (HHT) DESTINATION!
Experience, enjoy and learn in this developing Health Home Tourism (HHT) destination – which is an added AirBnB experience expressed in the style of a licensed nutritionist! The full HHT destination experience is slated to be complete by 2023. In the meantime, I welcome you to experience and enjoy the nurturance of a wide variety of health-enhancing lifestyle tools used in the kitchen, family room, bathroom and bedroom. There is a growing list of available immersive health experiences which I will be making available to my HHT guests by 2027 and which I am making available, little by little as they are developed, to the current guests as I move towards this goal.
Immersive Health Experiences are currently found in a variety of places – the Health Shelf in the hall on the second floor contains some exercise and self-massage equipment - the linen closet across from that contains the near infrared mat - the kitchen contains a wealth of spices/teas, and superfood and protein powders - the family room contains many nutritional lessons on CD, tapes and DVDs - each bathroom contains a variety of creams and other health & beauty products for you to use (please feel free to take along with you what you opened) - and each bedroom contains, for your use, a yoga mat, yoga blocks and a body roller, as well as a variety of easy-to-use nutritional powders and an occasional snack. Let me know what other health items that you might be interested in for a future Health Home Tourism visit!
Please let me know how I can best support your health and healthy lifestyle, by letting me know what you liked about what you were able to try, from what was provided, and by sharing your ideas of additional immersive health experience offerings I might be able to add in an AirBnB setting.
New lifestyle visions start upon arrival with the beautiful architectural raised bed vegetable garden in the front yard! If you come in the “right” season, you are welcome to any excess harvest from that time. The “excess” produce, in the growing season, are now just things like radishes and grape leaves – but I am working long-term on more fun harvests like fruit from my fig and persimmon trees – which are now still babies and not yet producing fruit.
From Spring through Fall, please enjoy the 3 abundant herbs from my front and side yards –rosemary, fennel, and mint. (My sage bush was the very biggest of all of my herb plantings, but it passed this winter of 2022. I will plant two more this spring and will be back offering culinary sage very soon, as well!)
Just past the front foyer, enjoy the musical instruments which are available for your use. I have a piano, a trumpet, a clarinet and djembe drum! (And a variety of other miscellaneous music makers!). Music is joy and joy is health!!
And, the highlight, please enter the kitchen. It is the kitchen of a Maryland licensed Nutritionist, well stocked with some fun small appliances such as a Vitamix, a glass-canistered Tribest personal blender, an 11-cup Cuisinart Food Processor, a KitchenAid stand mixer, a toaster oven which rotisseries meats, a Lotus Sanitizing System, An iSi Professional Gourmet (Cream) Whip Plus, and a full supply of Pyrex storage containers, stainless steel cookware, cast iron cookware, several fermentation systems, knives, etc, and all organized in a Julie-Child’s-Kitchen kind-of-way where it is easy to see a great deal of what is available with a quick visual scan.
The front and back porches are pleasant, with deck tables and chairs, and are a great way to enjoy the weather and watch the playful squirrels and abundant birds.
Enjoy the basketball hoop in the backyard, along with a variety of basic sporting equipment for your use and pleasure, such as a basketball, a soccer ball, field hockey sticks and ball, lacrosse sticks and balls, sidewalk chalk and a kite! The big tree in the backyard is also great for hugging.
Be inspired to enhance your life!!
And then relax in your well-loved room!
Warm Regards,
Amanda
