Chawton Park Bungalow is the residential part of a working farm, located in a peaceful rural Northeast Hampshire. On-site we have a total of 2 ensuite cabins/shepherd's huts:

Set in idyllic countryside, our beautiful barn conversion is located in a peaceful setting on the edge of the quintessential English village of Upper Farringdon, with its ancient church, thatched cottages and fantastic pub, The Rose and Crown.

Our cosy barn has a spacious, open plan, newly fitted kitchen, dining area and sitting room on the ground floor with double bedroom (Kingsize bed), twin bedroom and shower room on the first floor. Complimentary soaps from The Lavender Fields at Selborne and welcome pack featuring local goodies. Free Wi-fi and Freeview television.

The set up:
Our barn is located on a quiet country lane. The barn is self contained and adjoins my creative studio from where I paint and manage my interior design consultancy. It is situated next to (but detached from) our family home and whilst it enjoys a large amount of privacy, we are on hand to offer advice or to answer any questions during your stay. There is an outside seating area exclusively for the use of our guests.

Getting here:
Alton is the closest town (less than 10 minutes drive), with direct trains to London Waterloo in just over an hour. Guildford is a half hour drive with direct trains to London Gatwick Airport. For drivers, the village is located off the A32, approximately an hours drive from South West London.

Things to do and places to visit:
Set on the edge of The South Downs National Park, on the "Writers Way" the barn is an ideal base for walkers, with several beautiful walks straight from the front door.

We are also in the heart of Jane Austen country with the pretty village of Chawton a leisurely half hour walk away through woodland and open fields (or short drive), where the Jane Austen House Museum and Chawton House are located.

The naturalist, Gilbert White's House and the Oates Collection is located in the pretty village of Selborne, a short drive away, where more beautiful walks can be found and an excellent cafe.

A 20 minute drive to the south is the stunning market town of Alresford and for opera fans, we are ideally located for the Grange Festival. The nationally acclaimed annual Alresford Watercress Festival which takes place in May, is an event not to be missed! Just 10 minutes further down the road is historic Winchester with its beautiful cathedral and a plethora of independent shops.

The south coast is approximately 50 minutes drive, with an extensive number of beaches to choose from.

There are a number of National Trust properties within easy reach, such as Hinton Ampner, Uppark House and The Vyne.

For train enthusiasts, the heritage Watercress Line runs steam train trips between Alton and Alresford.

Food and drink:
Waitrose, Sainsburys, Aldi, Lidl and M&S Food are located in Alton with delivery available to the barn from Waitrose and Sainsburys. If you don't fancy cooking, the atmospheric Rose and Crown is a short and pleasant stroll away through the village and offers delicious lunches and dinners, but be sure to book in advance as they do get very busy. There are plenty of other dining experiences available within a short drive and I am more than happy to provide recommendations.

Renovated in June 2019, the house is a real haven ideally located in the heart of Chawton village and surrounding Hampshire. Farthings was built circa 1700 for the workers of the Squires big house, which is now the Jane Austen Library in the centre of Chawton. The writer's home, now a museum, is directly opposite the house and it's said that Austen family members stayed in Farthings when they ran out of room. They certainly smoked hams for Squire Knight's guests in the inglenook fireplace.

The cottage was very comfortable for us. The front room was inviting, and had space to sit, visit, and watch TV. The kitchen has been updated and served us very well. There is a nice washing machine, but you will need to hang up your laundry on a drying rack, so plan ahead for that. The ceilings are quite low, so great for us ladies, but it would have been uncomfortable for our husbands. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms, which are outfitted well. The beds and pillows are decently comfortable. The bathroom is good, but the toilet is awful! Just be warned, we had to flush many times to even get paper to go down. Not fun for those middle of the night bathroom trips. The garden is also sweet, but the one day we could have made use of it, the gardeners were there all day working on it. It is really charming though. All in all, we're very happy we chose this cottage. Thank you for the great stay!"

Entire ground floor annexe located in the picturesque countryside village of Holybourne, near Alton. The self-contained annexe is attached to the main house and has its own front door for private use by guests. It is spacious and bright with a private garden for guests to enjoy.
The perfect base to explore glorious Hampshire countryside with its many walking routes and cycle paths, or visit the nearby Watercress Line and Jane Austen’s House.

The annexe has undergone renovations in October 2022 and features a new bathroom with walk-in rain shower or shower riser and all walls are newly decorated throughout.

There is one bedroom with a solid wood double bed and very comfortable orthopaedic mattress. The sofa bed in the living room can be easily converted into a small double to sleep either one adult or two children.
In front of the annexe is a secluded garden with outdoor seating for guests to enjoy. It is solely for guest use and it is perfect for relaxing in at the end of the day as it gets the afternoon sun.
The well equipped kitchen has a wall of windows which lets in a lot of natural light and allows a view of the garden. The kitchen has an oven, induction hob, washing machine, fridge freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster.

The annexe is central heated and gets lovely and cosy in the winter months.WiFi, linens and towels are included. Tea, coffee and sugar are included. As well as basic cooking ingredients and cleaning accessories.

If travelling with children we have a cot bed, high chair, baby bath, kids DVDs and we can provide some garden toys.

Please note that the sofa bed in the lounge is a small double and not suitable for 2 adults. We have a Max sleeping capacity of 3 adults OR 2 adults and 2 children. Plus an additional cot bed for infants.

We offer self check in with the use of a key safe. You will receive a code for the key safe prior to arrival. We have space for 1 car to park on the driveway with further spaces available on the London Road.
The village of Holybourne is very well located and offers a range of activities to explore for both families and couples. The renowned village pub The White Hart serves fabulous food and the Holybourne village shop is well stocked and sells local produce.
Mill Cottage Farm is less than 10minutes walk away and offers a fantastic walk with a variety of animals to see and a stream to paddle in when the sun is shining.
The historic market town of Alton with all of its shops, restaurants and amenities is only 2 miles away.
There are a number of local historic places to visit including Jane Austen’s house, The Watercress Line and Gilbert Whites Museum.
The vast forest of Alice Holt is 10 minutes drive away and fantastic for kids and adults alike.
Both Winchester and Farnham towns are within 30 minutes drive and have a lot of sights to offer.

Parking in the village is free and never in short supply.
There are multiple pay and display car parks in Alton town centre.
Alton train station is well networked and has direct trains to London Waterloo and all of the surrounding towns.
The walk into Alton town centre is approx 30 minutes.
Buses stop just outside the house at multiple times on a Tuesday and Friday and go into Alton town centre. Bus stops at the opposite end of the village also go into Alton town centre seven days a week.
Longer distance buses can be caught at the Cuckoos Corner stop on the A31 for travel to Guildford, Farnham and Winchester.

If you do not agree to this clause, REDWOOD STAYS reserves the right to cancel your reservation.

- NO SMOKING! We strictly implement a non-smoking policy throughout the entire building. Violation of this policy will result in a charge of £1,000.
- No unregistered guests. Bringing extra people in addition to the number you have booked for is considered a booking violation, and we will have no other choice but to ask everyone to leave the premises, and your security deposit will be retained.
- If you wish to have visitors, you need to inform us prior to arrival. However, they will not be allowed to stay overnight.
- Any damage to this property is chargeable. This accommodation regrets that it cannot accept liability for any valuables left in the apartment or parking vehicles.
- Respect the noise curfew. Our properties are in a private residential area. Therefore, our duty is to strictly implement a no-noise policy from 10 PM to 7 AM.
- Take extra care of your keys. Keys not left in the designated location as specified in the check-in and check-out instructions will incur a £50 additional charge. A charge of £50 for an emergency callout and £250 for an emergency locksmith charge will be incurred for any loss or unreturned keys.
- Unauthorised late checkout resulting in cancellation of the upcoming booking will be charged to you.
- Non-approved check-outs after 10 AM will incur a charge of £25 per hour.

As stated, there is parking for two medium size cars, but not SUVs. There was no house book with instructions as to how to change the heating or put out rubbish. Refreshed for 2025, these fully heated wooden cabins are warm and cosy with a double bed, comfortable sofa bed and a relaxing seating area.

The cabin has an en-suite shower room with shower, hand basin and toilet. The kitchenette has a kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, two ring hob and sink.
