The Boathouse lies 12 miles from both of the main towns on the island, Portree and Broadford so is centrally located to see all the sights you may want to see. The Isle of Skye Golf course is a 5 minute walk away from the house, you can also hire clubs here.

The Boathouse has regular visits from Otters and Seals and an incredible variety of sea birds. A good idea to bring binoculars if you can. The spectacular Cuillin mountains are just a few miles away with waterfall walks with mountain backdrops.
We can have the most breath taking sunrises across the Loch and occasionally we see the Northern Lights in the Autumn to Spring months.
The is a regular passenger and car ferry to the Island of Raasay, which is stunningly beautiful and peaceful and boasts it's own whiskey and gin distillery.
Sconser Lodge hotel is a couple of minutes away where you pre-book a table in their restaurant. They serve freshly dived for Sconser scallops and other locally sourced produce. Three miles further on the A87 you'll find the Sligachan Hotel. It has an open restaurant and also an award winning bar where you'll find over 400 different brands of whiskey, the bar also has live music.
The Noost is a newly opened takeway which serves delicious cakes/coffee and Ice Cream, it is situated beside the Sconser Ferry terminal which is a 5 minute walk away.

The Boathouse is very well equipped and comprises of Lounge, Semi Open Plan Kitchen, Utility Room, 3 bedrooms (2 en suite), (one king, double and twin), bathroom and upper viewing lounge.

## Space

Upstairs - 2 spacious bedrooms upstairs with king sized beds, quality bedding and mattresses. Lie in and enjoy the views! There is a toilet off the large landing.
Downstairs - Large open planned kitchen/dinning room, washing machine/dryer, cosy lounge with wood burner (one basket of logs included). Small 3rd bedroom with single bed. Shower room off the hallway.
Outside - Large unfenced grounds where the sheep graze regularly. Parking for 2 cars.

Our cottage sleeps 5 adults comfortably. We can also accommodate a young child (usually up to around 4 years old) in a travel cot. While Airbnb defines ‘infants’ as under 2, we’re happy to welcome slightly older little ones who are still fine sleeping in a travel cot. This Old School, which was last used as such around 1930, has the large original schoolroom equipped with table tennis, darts and other games and is ideal for evenings and wet weather. The cottage is situated on its own (the nearest house is about a quarter mile away) about half a mile above Carbost village, well-known for the Talisker Distillery. There's also a shop, a post office and The Old Inn in the village is known for its very tasty bar meals. You pass The Oyster Shed on the way!

The nearest shopping centre is Portree, about 18 miles away.

The sitting room (actually one half of a large kitchen/sitting room) has a wood burning stove (as well as electric heaters and a small storage radiator) and comfortable sofas and chairs providing a cosy place for passing those wet or midgey Skye evenings! There is a selection of books and games as well as playing cards and jigsaw puzzles. There is no television but there is free WIFI which usually works very well and a radio/CD player.

Kitchen
The other half of the kitchen/sitting room is a well equipped kitchen that provides everything that you need to cater for 6 people, except of course food and drink! In addition to full sets of crockery, glasses and cutlery, and a wide selection of pans and utensils the equipment includes:

Large larder Fridge. (There is a freezer in the school room lobby.)
Microwave
A ceramic hob and large single fan oven with grill
Toaster, electric kettle, hand-held electric whisk and electric blender stick.
Tea towels and oven hands

School Room (This takes up almost the whole of the front of the cottage to the right of the central chimney and is accessed through a separate door.)
The large old school room is one of the great assets of the cottage. It has been equipped with table tennis, darts and some other games and toys together with a number of fairly old sofas and armchairs, so it is a great place for children and adults alike to let off steam on wet days. There is also an open fire which warms the hands (of the teacher but not the children!) but is not large enough to heat the whole room.

Bedrooms
There are two bedrooms downstairs, one leading off the other. The first has a double and the second twin beds. Up the stairs (which are steep and narrow) is another bedroom with two single beds. All beds have modern, comfortable mattresses, good quality duvets and pillows and are made up ready for you. The bedrooms have ample hanging and drawer space. There are lots of spare blankets. A cot and high chair can be provided on request. We don’t normally provide bedding for the cot.

In a spectacular and isolated position close under the Black Cuillin ridge this unique old shepherd’s cottage is ideally situated for climbing and walking and for exploring the rest of Skye. Sheep sit on the doorstep and a lovely burn runs close by. It has been comfortably modernised while retaining its traditional character, including an open fire. Electric heating and double glazing throughout ensure that you can have controllable warmth. The cottage is up a gravel track about half a mile from the Sligachan Hotel which is within easy walking distance.

The accommodation is divided into the main cottage which can sleep five and an annex (the Bothy) close by. There is a private water supply with a UV sterilisation and filtration plant.

In the cottage is a bathroom with bath, small hand basin, lavatory, 2 heated towel rails and electric heater, together with a fantastic view. The bath has shower mixer taps but there is not a lot of head room for a stand up shower. There is also a hand basin in the double bedroom. In the bothy there is a shower room, with electric shower, hand basin, chemical toilet, heated towel rail, electric heater and an automatic washer/dryer.

There is a separate large drying room with electric heater and clothes pulley rack.

All rooms have electric heaters with controllable time clocks. There is a storage radiator in the hall.

The stove burns wood and we leave sacks in the garage. One sack and some kindling is provided. We also leave a few firelighters to start you off.

Both the cottage and bothy are fully double glazed.

Hot water is provided by immersion heaters and controllable time clocks. The shower heats its own water.

There is a garage attached to the bothy but it is quite small and is not often used for cars! It makes excellent storage for bicycles.

- "This simple cottage was perfect for two of us for our 1-1/2 week stay which we used as a delightful home base from which to explore Skye. Kitchen came supplied with all necessary pots, pans, and dishes. Small fridge permitted sufficient space for fresh food storage. Very comfortable main bed (couch in kitchen room is uncomfortable to sit on, needs to be replaced). Extremely private, quiet and peaceful. We made daily trips to other parts of Skye with ease, and at end of day always loved returning to Elgol and cottage for tranquil nights. We would definitely book this cottage again!"

This beautiful cottage is in the heart of Carbost. It has a mixture of Mountains views, Stunning views on the sea, Super central location, quality, available amenities, Wifi and more to make sure you have a great stay! - "Absolutely amazing location!! Beautiful views out every window! Perfect place to stay for touring the Isle of Skye. While there were a lot of high end (luxury) things in the house, it really isn't meant for 6 adults.Perhaps 4 medium sized people. The rooms were tiny and luggage had to be left in the living room. A single couch isn't enough for 6. The kitchen was pretty small for trying to cook in and the counter stools were too big for sitting in if anybody needed to get anywhere.
