The house may not be large, but is very homey and is laid out to feel like you have good amount of area. 4 average sized adults found it comfortable. (The bathroom is compact, so would not recommend if you are an extremely overweight person.) The backyard and front porch/deck are laid out for outdoor socializing. Stocked with everything you need. All furnishings and appliances are clean, functioning and modern. Whoever decorated the house has a talent for it. I would stay there again. Two bedrooms with a pillow top queen bed in each one, down comforters, comfortable pillows, linen curtains and remodeled bathroom. Lovely dining room and a cozy living room with a smart TV to watch cable tv or Netflix. The kitchen has all new, top of the line appliances and concrete countertops. The fenced backyard is large and the patio is fully covered with lighting and outlets.

Chela, Claudia, maintenance, my husband Larry, and myself all comprise a service team of five people to oversee the care and condition of 9 houses. We are scaled to the right size to allow for the time to give plenty of attention to the care of each and every guest home.

I’ve designed this space to be accessed at any time (late check ins are just fine). My day job does keep me busy so most likely I will not be there to greet you at the door, but I have a servants heart and I am easily reached. I also know where all the best local dining is based on your tastes!!

This home is used exclusively for vacation rentals. The basement is unfinished but has a washer and dryer that guests are welcome to use.

To ensure you get settled in and have a great start to your stay with us, we have provided an initial supply of small items around the house including toilet paper but these may not be enough for your entire stay and you may need to purchase additional supplies.

We do realize last minute overnight guests may come for a variety of reasons. If this situation arises please contact me and amend your reservation for the correct number of people. This will protect both parties in regards to your insurance coverage etc.

I purchased the building in 2018 and began renovation of the fully outdated and poorly maintained building, which I renamed "Ad Astra Place Apartments" after the Kansas state motto, "Ad Astra, Per Aspera", or "To the Stars Through Difficulty."
I have 3 short term rental units, all of which are on the 2nd floor of the North hallway (the building has both a North and South hallway.)
As a dog lover and rescuer, I made my building dog friendly and have fenced in the back yard to provide a place for our furry friends to stretch their legs leash free.

Guests have the entire rental unit to themselves. This unit has a back door which opens up onto the 35' x 18' covered deck. The deck steps take you down directly into the back yard, which is private and shared only with tenants. We offer a keyless entry for "Self Check-In" convenience. Your Code and other details are provided before check-in. However, when we are home, we often try to meet you at the door at check-in. We live here, so meeting guests face to face is a good practice, when possible. If we don't answer the bell, just use your code.

Our front door takes you right up the stairs. (You will share the stairs, as our private office is upstairs. Our occasional use of the office while we are hosting is typically not a problem for our guests) Your room and bath is around the corner—to the right—at top of stairs.

There is never a "curfew" except that we like to know when you will be checking in on your first night. Once you are setted in, please come and go as you like. There is a key to the room door on the desk of your room.

Guests do 📣not have access to: the primary bedroom, main floor bathroom or our private office.

You have access to the garage for garbage containers and storage of smaller items. Upon request, you may store excess belongings (bicycles, etc) in our garage, and depending upon circumstances we may provide the garage code.

Hannah's Haven is a cozy 2nd floor apartment in my home. My youngest daughter, Hannah, lived here for 5 years. It was her haven, The separate entrance and off-street parking make it an attractive place for guests. In the historic Oakland neighborhood of Topeka, convenient to downtown Topeka, the Capitol, and our 3 hospitals. Nicely decorated, fully equipped for short- or long-term stays, plenty of space for one or two guests. Guests staying more than a month may ask for an additional discount.

The space
The apartment has been redecorated and there are lots of windows, so lots of light. I think that's my favorite feature of the whole house. The kitchen sink and counter have been upgraded to make cleaning up much easier. The bedroom has a queen size bed and there is a twin size air-bed, the height of a regular bed, which can fit in the living room. The entire space is for for my guests and the separate entrance makes it private.

This apartment has a separate entrance, so guests have private access to this completely furnished space. There is a covered patio with furniture next to the detached garage at the back of the property. That is a available for guests, as well, weather permitting.

Other things to note
It's just half a block from The Pizza Parlor, a popular eating place in Oakland, for decades. This new location is large and has lots of TVs, so it's a great place to watch whatever sporting event is a must see. On the other end of the scale is Chez Yasu, a French restaurant with a Japanese chef (who studied in France). It is about a 15-minute drive. The food is excellent and highly recommended by Hannah, who lived in France for a summer. We only go there on very special occasions, but it is worth the higher price. There are other unique places to eat and see in Topeka, which is an easy city to navigate. Just ask me for suggestions and directions. Some of my suggestions are in the house manual you will see when you arrive.

In just nearly a 5-minute walk you will arrive at the first Johnny's Tavern known for their pizza and sports watching atmosphere. Just as close in other directions you can find local Mexican restaurants, furniture stores, and the most delicious local coffee with occasional live music outdoors.

A nature trail along the river is only about 5 blocks away.

A beautiful, 15-minute walk across the river lands you in the heart of Lawrence; its historical downtown.

First please be aware that the room is upstairs. Also this home is near a train that runs during the day and evening.

The room is a nice cozy set up with a full-size bed. There is a walk-in closet that has a dresser with a mirror. You will have your own bathroom that you do not share located in the hallway. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are provided.

My hope is you have a comfortable place to come rest when you are done adventuring for the day with all that Lawrence has to offer.

You will be able to park on the far right of the driveway towards the back without garage access.

You are welcome to use the common space of the living room and kitchen along with all the appliances.

Other things to note
The front door of the home opens up to the downstairs open space. Please note there are stairs required to access the room. It is not an option to reach the room without walking upstairs. While a train is nearby, the room for you is the least affected by the train noise.

Enjoy this main floor 1 bed 1 bath condo centrally located in Lawrence. This updated space is on bus route, next to public par three golf course and has covered parking! Sun room has nice southern exposure perfect for relaxing with morning coffee or using desk to finish your studies or days work. Fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, and condo complex pool. Easy access to highway for commuting to Kansas City or Topeka.

We have a comfortable 100-year-old bungalow home in a safe, quiet neighborhood near Washburn U., hospitals, the Capitol, the convention center, downtown, the library & I-70. Your ensuite bedroom is on the first floor. We can provide a pack-n-play for an infant or toddler. Our home is mostly ADA accessible, with rear parking, a lighted ADA ramp, and wide doors for the entrance to the house and the bedroom. There is a 30 amp RV/EV outlet at the rear parking space. NO CATS, PLEASE!

The space
Accessibility Notes:
The bathroom is small and will not accommodate a wheelchair, but it is small enough to navigate, with four grab bars, from the entrance. Our daughter was wheelchair bound and navigated the bathroom with one grab bar by the door. We've added three additional bars. There is also a transfer shower chair available if requested. We say that the room is mostly accessible because a wheelchair cannot navigate completely around the bed. We STRONGLY urge you to contact us if you use a wheelchair so we can discuss your needs and accommodate you in the best way possible.

The Space:
Our home is tranquil, and people feel comfortable here. The queen-sized bed and bedding are of very high quality. Our WiFi is AT&T fiber and runs about 200+ Mbps. The room has a refrigerator and a microwave. The television has Roku, which will allow you to sign in to your favorite streaming services. When you check out of the Airbnb, your streaming logins will be deleted automatically. There is a bedside power station with three A/C outlets and four USB ports. There is an additional power station at the desk. Your bedroom door has a deadbolt with a key. The room is on the southeast corner of the house. It gets the morning light. There are blackout curtains should you wish to control the sunlight. While the room is on the central HVAC system, there is an additional air conditioner and heater that you may use to set the room temperature as you like. A folding laptop table is in the room for your use.

Guest Access:
There is a digital lock on the front door. Your code will be the last four digits of your cell phone number. You will enjoy complete privacy in your room and free access to the public areas of the home to meet your needs. Should you need to use the rear handicap parking and the ramp, your code will work on the side door also.

Other Things to Note:

Both of us have been vaccinated for COVID-19. We watch two of our grandkids on Wednesday afternoons. Our front porch is set up as a playground, but our large rear deck is available should you wish for some quiet outdoor time. We are only two blocks from Boswell Park, which has a nice playground. We maintain a non-smoking home, for health reasons.

You will have access to on-street parking or a handicapped off-street parking spot if required. Our spacious deck is available for your use. Coffee service is available in your room.

Bobbi and I may be present when you check in. Your door code is the last 4 digits of your cell phone number. We are always available via text and phone for questions and emergencies. We do live on-premises.

Private three-room suite in a prime mid-town-neighborhood home. Bedroom and den adjoined by a private bath plus access to kitchen, common areas, laundry and off-street parking. Quiet and safe. Upscale west-side location convenient to shopping, Washburn University, State Offices, Hospitals and the V.A. Professional-quality home shared part-time with the owner who may be in Topeka or in Corpus Christi or in Austin or on a sailboat somewhere. Come chill on the patio and experience Topeka at its best.

The space
The suite consists of three rooms on the first floor: a bedroom and a den separated by a private bath. Also, the bedroom opens onto a private, glassed-in patio. The den has a Samsung Smart TV, a love seat and a personal work area complete with internet, Hulu, Netflix and broadcast television. Sorry, we cut the cable years ago.

Guest access
Guests will be able to access the entire first floor, with living room, dining room and kitchen, along with the laundry area in the basement. Modest entertainment is allowed and encouraged, but no parties please. Disclaimer--the basement is a classic, unfinished, cobwebs-and-all basement. You'll get used to it. It does get rather damp during the torrential downpours that Kansas is famous for.
