It’s spotless! Really comfy big bed and nicely firm pillows. Modern and clean bathroom. Breakfast cooked to order and plenty of other choices; cereals, fresh fruit, juices, different teas, alternative milks as well as normal, marmite, jam, Nutella, the list is endless! Glan-y-Rhyd is a delightful traditional 200 year old single storey cottage situated in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales, available for holiday rental. It has a spectacular location on the bank of the River Conwy, on the edge of the popular village of Betws-y-Coed, an ideal base from which to explore the many attractions and leisure activities that the Snowdonia National Park has to offer.
The cottage has recently been sympathetically restored by local craftsmen employing traditional methods and environmentally friendly materials. Whilst authentic and traditional, the cottage enjoys all mod cons. The cottage is tastefully designed and ideally suited to discerning couples seeking a romantic break and solitude. However, it can comfortably accommodate up to four people in two double bedrooms at opposing ends of the property, allowing for space and privacy. We offer a reduced rate for a single couple sharing just the one bedroom according to the season.
Glan-y-Rhyd translates as ‘on the shore’. You will enjoy stunning views from all of the main rooms overlooking the river and beyond down the valley to the mountain Moel Siabod (2861 ft / 872m).
- "Lovely house on a beautiful stream." - "Everything about this property was perfect for us. Beautiful setting, so peaceful with only the birds and river for company. Easy walking distance to the village. Loved everything about the cottage too, really tastefully renovated with a photo album to show how it used to look! Lots of extras from dishwasher tablets to a huge basket of logs made this place feel very welcoming. As you can tell we loved it and got excited about our return there each day 😃"

- "This home is really lovely Will decorated and with many comfort affordable amenities throughout that make for a pleasant day. However, a maintenance person needs to address a sluggish shower, drain that overflows quickly, visible mold in two bedrooms and the bathroom, and rodents in the attic that you can hear moving around and see many droppings from in nearly every window sill you open. If these issues were addressed, I would have given the property a much higher rating because it’s well decorated comfortable and super well located we enjoyed our stay but felt a little uncomfortable given that we couldn’t really open windows knowing bats were coming in and out of the attic all night."

- "On the positive side, the cottage is charming and well-maintained. The self-check-in process was hassle-free, allowing us to settle in easily. However, finding the cottage proved to be a challenge due to the lack of clear directions in the listing. The address provided was for an entire street, and unlike neighbouring cottages, ours lacked a name. It took a frustrating half-hour of trial and error, and even the neighbours couldn't assist us. The entrance tucked away at the back of another property added to the confusion. Communication with the owner also had its issues. I messaged the owner once I realised the listing didn't give enough details, but the response only came after we had already checked in. This delayed communication was a bit disappointing. The cottage lacked some thoughtful touches that would have enhanced the experience. Basic amenities like tea and coffee were absent, which would have been a welcoming gesture. Lastly, it's important to note that the cottage is about a 30-minute drive from the main local attractions. While the property is charming, its distance from the key spots might not be ideal for those seeking convenient access."

It’s probably true to say that there’s nowhere else quite like St Curig’s in North Wales. Ancient and modern stylishly combine in this beautiful home set within a church in the mountain village of Capel Curig.
Where else can you sleep beneath a carved stone pulpit, enjoy a hot tub under the stars or play table tennis beneath a fabulous 19th-century mosaic ceiling? And all with lovely views of Snowdonia's mountains from every window. This was the vision Alice had when she first came to the village twenty-five years ago and decided to convert the church into her home. The story of the conversion, a rollercoaster ride through planning regulations, builders and love affairs was described in Alice’s fortnightly Sunday Times column.
The church has two four-poster double en-suite bedrooms, two twin en-suite rooms, another twin and a quirky family room that sleeps four. We also have a couple of trundle beds for children that can go in any room and a sofa bed in the main living area for larger family groups. The kitchen is large and well equipped with a table that seats 16. The downstairs seating area has a grand piano, pool table, table tennis, three sofas and wood burner.
The property has a 3/4 acre walled garden and a hot tub that looks towards the beautiful Snowdon Horseshoe which is great after a long day in the mountains.
Guests can either be entirely self-catered and self-sufficient at the church or can opt for a bespoke package. If guests would like it's possible for them to have a fully catered stay with organised family activity packages or team-building exercises for work colleagues that make for the most memorable adrenaline-packed holidays.
We offer a fully cooked breakfast service or DIY continental drop-off baskets each morning. Packed lunches are available or delicious buffet-style lunches. If guests want a formal dinner then we have seven local chefs who can cater for any taste and even a sommelier for special occasions. We also have after-dinner speakers guaranteed to inspire corporate groups.
The church also arranges a host of indoor activities such as life drawing, yoga, meditation, jewelry making, photographic workshops, cocktail mixing, or massage and beauty treatments. We even have a party bus that can be hired to take guests out clubbing in Liverpool for the night! Other experiences to enjoy include live musicians for an intimate concert or arranging a film to be made about your trip or a photoshoot in our pop-up studio or outdoor in the beautiful Snowdonia scenery.
