Our Yurt is a perfect winter sojourn. We are in a finite zone where the high deserts soar up into the Rocky Mountains. Thus, the wonderful small town of Paonia is temperate in winter, with access to the best winter sporting one direction and calming desert in the other.
In Southwest Colorado 2 miles west of Paonia, is a Yurt nestled on a large wrap around redwood deck anchored by two mature Elms and is wonderful year round . and The building is situated in close proximity to the North Fork of the Gunnison River. The Yurt is a sanctuary far removed from neighbors and below the sight-line and activity of Highway 133.The property meanders above and below the Yurt for a quarter of a mile along the river’s edge. There are established wildlife corridors for Elk and Deer. Eagles, Red Tailed Hawks, and Blue Herons nest on the property or directly across the river. Robins routinely inhabit the trees directly above the sheltering Yurt.
When entering the 700 square foot Yurt, a 14’ high skylight inset in a mad array of knotty Aspen, draws you to its center. Here the fireplace anchors the middle and the remaining amenities unwind to the outside of the circumference. Here there is full ADA kitchen and ADA bathroom, queen size bed, dining table, and sitting area. The surrounding river, mountains and cultivated farmland can be viewed ten different ways through 8 windows and 2 French doors. Think of a random compass point and there you will find a window framing your gaze. There is an openness seldom seen in standard structures. After rubbernecking for a while, your first coherent thought is, ‘I can relax here’. And the reality is, you can.

The Grove Yurt is a primitive living situation by the current "Condo-ified" standards of our 21st century housing needs. It is furnished in the well appointed farm house style of the 1930s in the Midwest. Many of the furnishings are actually from that time. We have, for instance, a composting toilet, set in a horse trailer, in keeping with that time.(we provide toilet paper, not Sears and Roebuck catalog pages for wiping). We have now added a shower house with bathroom sink, large tiled shower, power( for devices) , and toilet situated close-by in the adjoining natural meadow.

The Yurt is also in the round, which is seldom seen in our current construction palette. After a stay in the Grove Yurt, you will have become accustomed to its natural flow and long for them in your own home. After leaving, and returning to the world of forbidding corners, you will feel similar to those who have been at sea and return to stagger upon the dry land anticipating movement beneath their feet.

The Grove Yurt is nestled in a grove of Large and Narrow Leaf Cottonwoods with the river situated directly opposite. There is an unobstructed view of the surrounding mountains rising from our valleys organic farmland. (we have more organic farms Per capita of anywhere in the US). Inside the Grove Yurt, you can spin like Julie Andrews on her mountaintop and nothing can impede the 360-degree panorama framed by 8 - 4 x 4 foot windows, glazed Double French doors and an 8' x 8'screened opening. The city townhouses we see on late night movies, are generally 20' wide. The Yurt is 30' in diameter. When crossing the threshold, the Yurts fourteen-foot ceiling terminated by a four-foot tinted Plexiglas dome does have an impact after being at the river. We have a dining table, complete with hanging candelabra leading to certain Gothic overtones. The light, sound and smell waft right through the screened openings, giving the impression of being in the forest, but only slightly removed.

The king-size bed is placed next to this opening so that guests' attention is often balanced between the activities beyond the dome and the soundtrack of noises from the forest inches away. Heat is maintained through a well-stocked wood-burning stove and all the necessary tools to maintain a roaring fire late into the night. There is a leather rocking chair in which guests very well might fade into ultimate relaxation. The chandelier of course, reveals the rafters in ever changing lights and shadows of the soaring roof rafters with the morning and evening river breezes.

Directly outside, near the entrance, is an outdoor simple kitchen with limited cold water steel sink with prep area, ice refrigerator and gas stove. There is a composting toilet by Everlet in a horse trailer with all the niceties 20 paces from the yurt along a solar-lighted path. There is a four-person teak table directly on the river for outdoor dining. The Grove Yurt is the perfect place for rest, relaxation and a secluded getaway. It is removed on the south end of a 35 acre parcel. Our closest neighbor Delicious Orchards is known for its hard cider and organic fruit, a leisurely walk through the orchard for delicious food, often live music and a tastes of local produce in season. In addition, guests will have access to the rest of the property that stretches for a quarter of a mile along the river’s edge. Guests can expect to see amazing wildlife like elk, deer, eagles, red-tailed hawks, king fisher and blue herons and the sweet river otter family known to make an appearance for the most patient observer.

Hiking, fishing, biking, climbing, SUP trips, rafting, and art galleries are but a few of the activities our valley has to offer. Get cozy and settle into this rustic but tastefully designed space.

The cabin is located on 4 acres about a mile from town. The views are stunning from this small working farm. The property is a venue with deluxe apartments, glamping tents and cabins, 7 units in all. Bathroom service is provided in an old, repurposed grain bin that is less than 100ft away. It contains 2 full bathrooms, including showers. This cabin has a mini fridge, microwave oven, coffee maker, and ceiling fan. WIFI is available, some devices can access the signal from the cabin which is a few hundred feet from the main house. But cabin guests are welcome to hang out on the porch at the main house to access WIFI if desired. Other guests may be encountered on the porch but it is huge, and deck furniture is clustered with plenty of distance to maintain personal space if desired.

The cabin has a gravel parking space within a few feet. Wineries are close enough to walk for guests wanting exercise. Some guests bring bicycles for local transportation.

Tim enjoys interacting with guests but respects their space if privacy, peace and quiet are what they are looking for. Guests are invited to hang out on the huge log porch at the main lodge. Tim often enjoys coffee in the morning or a cold beer in the evening out on the porch where the stunning mountain views are addicting. Bring cigars, cognac, or beer and sit a spell. Great conversation, fun stories, respect, peace, kindness, acceptance and laughs are but a few things you will find interacting with Tim.

You can walk or bike to local wineries or downtown Paonia. But automobile seems to be the preferred mode of transportation for guests.

Apartment is newly remodeled space in the main house. The house is on 4 acres working farm that has other rental cabins and glamping tents. It is situated in a rural setting with nearby farms, orchards, vineyards and public lands.

Within a mile of the farm are 5 wineries and the town of Paonia. Some guest walk, ride bikes or book the local Colorado Detours shuttle. But most drive their personal vehicles. While the wineries are fairly close in proximity, steep roads must be negotiated to access them.

Fort Austin is friendly pet friendly. This place is designed to offer your well-behaved pup a vacation also. Our insurance company does not allow us to host pit bulls, german shepherds, wolf hybrids, dobermans or rottweilers.

It is very convenient for the wineries in the area or touring Mcclure or Kebler pass. He does his best to give space when privacy is desired but loves great conversation. He will probably offer cold beer or cigars if you enjoy such indulgences.

Vineyards and small farms are all around my place. Being on the highway provides very easy access and the 10ft noise wall blocks highway noise and view.

Avery`s Escape is a deluxe suite with full bath, kitchenette, living room and bedroom. The private entrance is right off the huge log porch where guests will find deck furniture to enjoy the incredible views and cool breezes. The bedroom window seat just may be the best place to curl up with a book. High speed internet provides very fast upload and download speeds for the digital nomad. A walk in the hay field at night opens to the night sky crowned by the Milky Way. Your pup will be able to stretch their legs for a run in the orchard.

Guests tend to hang out on the huge log porch or the redwood deck that serves as the pavilion stage. The common area fire pit and porch swing is becoming a guest favorite. The entire property is 4 acres and guests are welcome to walk the field, lounge on the porch or relax in the shade of the pavilion. Fort Austin is a small event venue, occasionally you might encounter guests attending a concert, art event, reunion or meeting. Events are limited to 85 decibels, 10pm finish and parking away from cabins and apartments.

Averys Escape is located on Fort Austin, a 4-acre working farm. It is nestled among small farms in a rural setting. Orchards, vineyards, pastures and wild lands surround the property.

Most guests drive their personal vehicles to get around this area. Although 5 wineries are within a mile, steep grades make for tough hiking, but some guests are able to handle it.

Fort Austin is friendly pet friendly. We welcome well-behaved pups and felines. But our insurance company does not allow pit bulls, wolf hybrids, german shepherds, rottweilers or dobermans. This place is designed for relaxation, peace, and quiet. People and pets who fit into that vision are welcome here.

THE LOCATION:

Grace is nestled in the sideyard between a private home and the winery tasting room. Although her fit appears tight, her occupants are afforded privacy due to the layout of both the camper and the land. Guests will enjoy a full kitchen, private patio, sleeping loft with queen-size mattress, large sitting space and one-of-a-kind views from the table. There is another cozy hangout nook that doubles as a closet and/or a single-person bed.

WATER: Propane hot-water takes about 15 minutes to heat up and then there is hot water for dishes and camp showers. Water comes from an internal 40-gallon tank that will be full when you arrive.

TOILET: Composting toilet with diversion for solids and liquids. You will be asked to keep an eye on and empty your own pee bucket in a designated area.

You will receive a pin and a message with instructions for arrival upon your booking. Yoda the dog will greet you- he loves everyone and everyone loves him!

The Paonia - Hotchkiss - Crawford area (North Fork Valley) is an agricultural mecca with world-renowned natural sites, such as Needle Rock and the Black Canyon.

You can’t go wrong with hot springs, rivers, farms, and hikes in every direction, great restaurants nearby, live music, and a premier winery tasting room mere feet from your doorstep.

All while coming home to a cozy little hideaway just above the Stone Cottage vineyards, with inspiring views and lots of light. Walk next door to enjoy a glass of wine under the shade of their patio. Cook a nice meal to enjoy on your private deck. Go for a walk and take in the vastness of view from the Raggeds to the Elks to the Black Canyon and desert beyond. At night, you can hear the owls and the coyotes across the edges of a beautiful Milky Way.

Paonia Nest is perfectly placed at the very end of the road backing up to endless hiking trail accessible BLM wilderness, yet only minutes to the three vineyards located down the street as well as the quaint town of Paonia. The Rockin’ Rose Ranch is a 320-acre "Legacy" guest/cattle ranch rich in history. It is close to towns and cities, yet a secluded Western Colorado paradise set in a private valley with a rustic feel reminiscent of Montana but with a milder climate. Originally, it was the headquarter ranch for the entire valley. It not only accommodates family and fun but as well, cow/calf pairs and organic steers. The ranch has a healthy elk population that resides and calves in the adjacent Gunnison National Forest that surrounds the ranch on three sides. Muddy Creek borders the northern boundary, and many spring-fed ponds provide both stock water and wildlife habitat. A sizable pond below the main ranch compound is stocked with trout. A beautiful, rustic ranch gate leads to an impressive entry lane with vintage pole fencing on both sides all the way to the ranch compound.

The updated Rustic improvements include a main cabin with fireplace that features a generous light-filled sun porch/dining area, a large deck, living room, and half bath and 4 bedrooms with queen-size beds. Next to the main cabin is the charming Rose Cabin with a king bed, a game room, and a bedroom behind the game room, has a king bed, they are all serviced by a large his and hers bathhouse and large laundry room. The bunkhouse has a kitchen, living and dining area, and two bedrooms, one with a king and one with three twins. And don’t forget the restored sheepherders’ wagon that can sleep two more. A total of 19 guests can stay in the main compound if using the wagon.

Live like a local in our cozy little cottage! We renovated a garage which is located by our house on 10 acres of land and recently put in a seating area with Pergola.
Our land is south facing on a mesa with a beautiful view of the mountains. We grow 5 acres of medicinal herbs, vegetables and berries. Lots of coming and going on the farm so hopefully you like people and be prepared for a lot of activity. Looking forward to hosting you:)

You will be downstairs in a well lit room. The bed in this guest room is a very comfortable futon bed that has received nothing but good reviews. There is a small desk in the room, with high speed internet/wifi.

You will also have use of a mini fridge. We provide drinking water, coffee and tea, plates, bowls and silverware, fan, hangers, iron, etc. If you need anything let us know.

We have two private guest rooms that are listed on Airbnb so if you have more than two people in your party, or if you don't want to share the bed, you will want to also reserve the other guest room (the beige room) to accommodate all of you.

You will share the fridge and bathroom with the other guests, if any.

We are very quiet and peaceful. (Well, there is an occasional train whistle but its very short). We eat organic food and will have a garden. You can enjoy our patio while you are here.

You will be close to everything when you stay at this centrally-located cozy basement. Two blocks to Grand Ave where you'll have everything a rural town has to offer at your fingertips. One bedroom with a king-sized bed. Couch in living room has a hideaway queen-sized bed. Kitchenette has small appliances and induction cooktops but no stove. I live upstairs with two children who are home half of the week. I will make sure they are respectful and conscientious but there may be noise.

The space
Private entrance to the basement apartment that has a comfortable living room, bedroom with a king-sized memory foam bed, a locking door and a spacious bathroom (which is only accessible through the bedroom). The couch has a hideaway bed that can sleep 2 people and the chaise has room for a child. I have comfortable memory foam blow-up mattresses in case anyone doesn't want to share a bed and you need more accommodations. Smart TV. Kitchenette. Bathtub. Small desk to work at.

The basement apartment is your humble abode and there is a private entrance via the exterior stairwell. Note there is a light-switch at the top of the stairs outside as well as a light-switch inside by the front door that will light up the stairwell if you need it. Being a dark-sky community, it's nice if you can turn it off while you're not using it.

Other things to note
I use natural products when cleaning the bedding and space. I don't use dryer sheets. There is a spout at the kitchenette sink for filtered drinking water.

I allow dogs but ask that you put down pet sheets that are provided on the furniture and wipe paws that might be dirty. Everything you need is inside the bench seat at the front door.

There is an alarm clock for you to use that also functions as a white noise machine.

The space
The tiny house is connected to the main house on the property through several (locked) vestibules. However, your tiny home space is completely private with its own entrance, fenced in yard, and parking spot.

Please note: the full sized bed is a loft style and you have to climb a set of steep stairs to reach it. There are handles secured on the wall to aid in climbing and there is a bed rail secured on the open side of the bed.

Pets are welcome but please don't leave them unattended if they have a history of chewing/destroying things. Know your pet and be respectful and honest.

Please be reminded...this is a TINY home and therefore a uniquely designed compact space. It has everything you need, and nothing you don't.

The space has all the essentials you'll need: AC, excellent Wifi, a bathroom with a shower, towels, shampoo/conditioner, a two burner gas range, mini fridge/freezer, basic kitchen and cooking utensils, kettle, french press, pour over (and coffee and tea), big farmhouse kitchen sink, comfy seating area, work space, etc.

The full indoor kitchen includes a 30 inch Premier Pro Series stove/oven/hood, luxurious German crafted energy star compliant Liebherr 13 cu. ft. counter-depth bottom-freezer refrigerator with LED Lighting and digital temperature display, plus pots, pans, dishes, cooking oil, and some spices. The indoor kitchen also features an electric hot water maker, stainless steel insulated french press, grinder and toaster. For dishes we have a deep stainless steel kitchen sink.

Cottage guests have access to our new "guest services laundry room" just 30 yards away in a shared area of our Airbnb next door called "Laura's Tower". Please coordinate with Katy to make sure the machines are open. Laundry is free for guests with soap provided.

Feel free to play corn hole or frisbee on the grassy green lawn and we ask that you pick up after your pets.

This home is a refuge, a quiet space to rest in after days of exploring the beauty of the area. Mountain views in the backyard, sunset views in the front. Easy to walk everywhere in town, and peaceful to come home to, with art from all over the world, + comfy furniture. There is a portable swamp cooler fan and a normal portable fan.

The yard is a work in progress, if you walk along the house you'll discover the backyard seating area, w/ a hammock, mountain views, + a little stream.

You’ll have the house to yourselves with access to the bedroom and bathroom at the front of the house. There’s another listing that also includes the main bedroom and en suite bathroom at a higher rate. Both listings are mutually exclusive so you’ll be the only party on the property with full access to the living room, kitchen, backyard and laundry.

Please keep pets off the furniture and out of the master bedroom. Please also clean up any poop from the yard.

The food in the home is mine, I rent only when I’m traveling. Please leave it be. You’re welcome to a bit of olive oil and spices, please refill anything you use more of.

The premises has a private feel with an earthen "Art Wall" surrounding the yard, and the building is only a few short minutes away from all the best places Paonia has to offer (such as the flying Fork right next door).

IMPORTANT
*The Gingerbread House sleeping arrangements is in loft with A nice wood VERTICAL LADDER so you will need to be comfortable climbing up and down. Yes, there is a railing so when your sleeping you can rest comfortably and not worry!

Welcome to our charming location, perfect for a peaceful getaway, a romantic escape, or a solo retreat. There is also plenty of space for a family adventure. The Spartan is beautifully decorated with eclectic furnishings and features a full-size bed, sleeper sofa, kitchenette, dining area, and a half bath with a shower.

Outside, you'll find a lovely seating area, offering ample space to relax, work, read, or meditate.

Beyond the patio, you'll discover our delightful goat farm, home to our friendly residents: a lovely group of goats, a few cats, and my two beloved Great Pyrenees, Theo and Fiona. You are welcome to interact with the goats, but please avoid entering their enclosure.

This home is a cozy 120 year old beauty in downtown Paonia. One block south of City park and five blocks from Grand street. Outfitted in contemporary furnishings juxtaposed with antiques. Tall ceilings with ceiling fans throughout for those July nights and a gas fireplace for cool nights. Door code allows guests to show up and move in immediately. A big fenced yard, off street parking and privacy give you what you need for the perfect getaway.
Twin beds can be made into a King if you like!

3)The Smart TV has free programming but no local channels. You can log into your Netflix, Hulu, etc. with your login and passwords. Don’t forget to log out!

4) There is an HDMI cable at the house for you to use (please do not take it!) . You can stream from your smart device if you travel with the correct adapter for your device.

5)Cell coverage is not always great. Verizon is available but better outside. Not sure about other carriers.

6) Gas fire works with remote control. Please turn it off when leaving the house. I do turn off the gas in the summer as the pilot light creates unnecessary heat.

7) Please let me know immediately if you see any problems with the house. There may be landscapers mowing or watering. The neighbors are all friends and are never shy to say “Hi”.

8) Artwork is mine and that of friends and local artists. If you are interested in purchasing any of it let me know!

9) The trundle bed in the second room can be made into a King bed. Slide the lower bed out, and look for the perpendicular tabs which hold the two bars under the mattress apart. Hold the tabs out of the way and squeeze the bars together. While holding the bars together, gently lift the whole thing and the bed will pop up to the height of the other bed. Look for a strap and a padded center space filler in the closet. Strap mattresses together and put king sheets on.
Better yet, let us know and we will set it up for you before you get there!

The space includes a spacious bedroom with a queen size bed, desk work space, closet, large window with a view of beautiful Mt. Lamborn and the park-like setting of our backyard. There is a kitchen space with table and chairs, microwave, small refrigerator, double burner cooktop, coffee maker, toaster, cookware, and dishes. There is also salt and pepper, sugar, and cooking oil. The bathroom and laundry facility are immediately adjoining the kitchen space, and there is a living room to relax in. The bathroom is equipped with soap, shampoo, towels, and hair dryer and is right next door to the bedroom. The living room has a sliding glass door out onto a covered patio with furniture for enjoying the outdoors while you work or relax.

The laundry facility on your floor is available for a small fee.

When you arrive, drive to end of the driveway and park on the right next to the upstairs deck. Your entrance is the solid door next to the sliding glass door under the deck. EZ parking and access, no stairs. Entry instructions will be provided upon reservation.

The spacious two-story house boasts a versatile open floor plan and is designed for ultimate comfort. Upstairs, guests can enjoy the sunny private deck, a king-sized bed, twin sofa couch, a 50-inch HDTV, office desk, and design spaces, as well as a spacious bathroom with an oversized bathtub and shower.

The well-equipped kitchen, located on the lower floor, boasts full range and oven, dishwasher, and Liebherr fridge. The kitchen was recently renovated in October 2021 with stone countertops and a butcher block island, making it the perfect place to prepare a full Thanksgiving meal. The kitchen window offers a breathtaking view of Paonia and the surrounding mesas, providing the perfect backdrop while you cook and dine. And, with the full professional BBQ grill, you can enjoy a delicious barbecue in the open air.

For your comfort, both bathrooms in the Tower are equipped with in-floor heating, and the small bathroom downstairs also features heated tile floors, a sink, and washer/dryer. The dining area boasts a round antique walnut table with three wooden chairs and two south-facing windows, which provide plenty of natural light. The queen sofa sleeper couch, brand new as of October 21, 2022, is positioned to face the TV on the lower floor, offering a convenient separation between dining and relaxing spaces.

The upstairs open floor plan features a king-sized master bed, twin sleeper sofa, private deck, two work spaces, a 50-inch TV, and a full bathroom with shower and oversized bathtub. Hosted by the same team that brought Kale's Cottage Airbnb to Paonia, guests can expect top-notch service and amenities.

Guests have access to the entire Tower, parking area, and deck spaces. An outdoor laundry room is currently under construction, and when completed, guests will have access to the washers and dryers for an even quieter stay.

Located in Colorado Wine Country overlooking our cherry orchard. We offer a free wine tasting at Qutori Wines. The tiny house has a living area with a daybed for lounging during the day and sleeping at night. There's a separate bedroom with French doors that open onto a small deck with a view. We offer a full refrigerator & microwave, including a 5 gallon water dispenser for drinking. There is running water in the shared bathroom, located in a separate building 50 feet behind the tiny house.

The space
The tiny house is log sided. It is a 2 room cabin like situation with a queen bed in the bedroom and a day bed in the living area. The space is small but cozy. It is a room with a view.

We are a farm and have 2 Great Pyrenees (live stock protection dogs living on the property). They do bark at night and to keep the wild life away. FYI

The space
IMPORTANT: Make certain to take a photo or print check in instructions before you arrive as the internet can be spotty especially if you have Version!!!

1) The TV is meant to roll so it can be viewed from the couch or the queen bed. **Be mindful of the extension cords when the TV is moved as it lays across the floor and can pull the TV off the stand and be in your walking path.

2)The Smart TV has free programming but no local channels. You can log into your Netflix, Hulu, etc. with your login and passwords. Don’t forget to log out!

3) There is WiFi access. Passwords provided in guest information book.
The cell coverage in Paonia can be spotty at times.

4) Please let us know immediately if you see any problems with the apartment.

5) Trash. If you have excess trash there is a trash can labeled "1" near the parking area

6) Please enjoy the balcony with no more than 6 people at one time.

Other things to note
The trundle bed in the living room can be made into two twins or a king bed. For king bed slide the lower bed out, and look for the perpendicular tabs which hold the two bars under the mattress apart. Hold the tabs out of the way and squeeze the bars together. While holding the bars together, gently lift the whole thing and the bed will pop up to the height of the other bed. Look for a strap and a padded center space filler in the dresser. Strap mattresses together and put king sheets on, which are in chest next to the trundle bed.

The Loft on Grand can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children.
The Brick building was constructed in 1908 and has 3 residence on the second floor where our loft is located. The main floor is a commercial space, where a Physical Therapist and performance trainer work on keeping Paonia healthy.

Romantic & secluded getaway right in the heart of Paonia. Ideally located to plug in when you want to, or disconnect if you need to, this is the perfect home-base to explore the North Fork Valley' wineries and surrounding mountains. With 2 spacious covered porches and a large, private patio, you choose where to relax. The dead-end street in the front and the open fields in the back allow for quiet, peaceful sunsets, while 2 blocks from the park give you access to town events & life.

Private patio overlooks pasture. No TV, just peace and quiet. Close to mountains, rivers, Grand Mesa, and Black Canyon National Park. Extremely clean and well-appointed.

The space
Our guest house was built in 2009 to accommodate the touring Tibetan monks who visit us most summers. It features high ceilings, lots of windows, a comfortable queen bed, and nooks inside and out for reading, dozing, and relaxing. "Much bigger than expected!" our guests say. Steps to hiking paths and mountain bike trails on public land. Loaner bikes for guests! One mile from downtown P-town. We use unscented cleaning supplies and hang sheets and towels to dry outside in the Colorado sunshine. Good internet, a huge library, but no phone or TV.

The entire guest house is yours, as well as your own front porch facing the mountains and back patio overlooking our pasture. We live in our house across the backyard from the guest house. Pleas be aware, this is an active, busy small farm and you are likely to meet us coming and going.

Welcome to The Secret Garden Suite of Storybook Cabin, with its bay window overlooking raised gardens, koi pond & fire pit area, and picturesque valley. This ground-floor suite accommodates two guests as a studio or may be combined with the Beyond the Bright Sea Suite for up to 5-6 guests. The best feature of Storybook Cabin is its 360-degree views of the North Fork Valley and surrounding mountains. Located just 2 miles outside of Paonia, it’s a peaceful Colorado haven. Breakfast is included!

The space
In 1997, we broke ground for our log home, recently designated as Storybook Cabin of Sunridge, LLC. The barn, complete with garage, work shop, and multi-purpose space, was constructed in 2008. We underwent another major renovation in 2023, when we reconfigured our living quarters to allow for private ground-level guest space. The “storybook” theme emerged as the two studio apartments took shape.

Please note, The Secret Garden Suite can be combined with the Beyond the Bright Sea Suite for a 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartment for up to 5-6 guests (see separate listing for Storybook Cabin of Sunridge.) As for the number of guests who can be comfortably accommodated within the entire space, there are two queen beds, one daybed (twin), one rollaway bed (twin), a small toddler bed, and infant/baby crib available. Different configurations are possible; message us to ensure that we can provide the lodging and bed space you need!

The Secret Garden Suite has several unique inclusions, such as its replica clawfoot bathtub (with discreet overhead Smart TV); his & her closets which contain a refrigerator, microwave, coffee/hot pots (L closet) and space for hang-up clothing (R closet), along with amenities such as luggage rack, ironing board & iron, and extra linen; games and lending library (with a “take a book, leave a book” philosophy). Please be aware that there is no stand-up shower in this suite (just the bathtub), but arrangements can be made for shower access either in the other unit if unoccupied or on main level of the home using rear stairway. Let us know if you would like access to one of the showers!

Please note that this is a No Smoking/No Drugs property, including indoor and outdoor spaces. Out of consideration for those with allergies to pet hair and dander, as well as our desire to avoid extra smells and noise, we have a No Pets Indoors policy. Our two outdoor kitties do wander the grounds at their leisure and retire to heated beds in the shed at night. Please keep doors to the suites closed, as our cats consider open doors to be invitations to become house cats.

Both suites have access to the yard & garden areas, patio with outdoor dining space, koi pond & fire pit, Kids Cabin, and playground area. Parking is available on concrete slab (one space per suite) or on gravel driveway in front of the detached shed, with additional parking out by the barn. Vintage lights span the overhead region above the parking spaces and that larger vehicles may need to park on gravel driveway.

Guests have access to the yard and garden areas, playground, Kids Cabin, koi pond and fire pit area (children must be supervised by adult within all fenced-in zones), and patio with outdoor dining space. The fire pit can be used only when risk of fire danger is low.

Please park only in designated parking areas adjacent to ground-floor guests suites (turn-around drive on upper level is reserved for deliveries and your hosts). Likewise, please do not block garage doors at the barn. The upper two floors of the log cabin, as well as the barn and second-floor back deck, are private spaces with no guest access.

During your stay
We prefer contact via the AirBnb site, but in case of emergency our cell phone numbers are listed within each suite’s guest book.

If we are home upon guest arrival, we will welcome you in person but also want to respect your privacy. We make every attempt to be available to answer questions. Please observe quiet hours of 10pm-8am. We can often be found out at the barn or outside working in the garden, tending to our yard, koi fish, and outdoor kitties.

Other things to note
The Secret Garden Suite is set up with one queen bed (with brand new Sealey hybrid mattress and soft linen), with available infant/baby crib or toddler bed (with notice in advance). It is therefore appropriate for a single traveler, couple, or family with small child. A plug-in tower for devices and sound machine are conveniently located at bedside.

We value a great night’s sleep, so the queen bed is outfitted with soft comforter/duvet cover and your choice of hypoallergenic pillows (flat, plush bamboo, memory foam) to encourage a comfortable night’s rest (and maybe even an afternoon nap!) Extra pillows can be found in the R side closet; help yourself to a swap if you’d like! We clean and launder all linen with environmentally-friendly, no chemicals or dyes Melaleuca products.

There is a fridge, microwave, and coffee/hot pots, along with coffee, tea, and snacks, within the left-side closet. We provide continental-style breakfast, complete with fruit, yogurt, and fresh baked goods from either Mountain Oven Organic Bakery or Paonia Bread Works.

We live on the upper two floors of the log cabin, so you may hear mild noises of occupancy overhead. We do our best to observe the quiet hours as we expect of our guests. We both work in the healthcare field, which necessitates some early morning activities which may include watering the garden.

La Casita is located in a private compound 10 minutes from Paonia or Hotchkiss 1 mile up a paved county-maintained road to the edge of the mesa.
Just at the end of the pavement turn to the left to the entrance of the private compound, where you will see signs pointing you to La Casita. Four wheel drive isn't necesary. La Casita will be at the end of the driveway to the left.

Other things to note
La Casita is situated just over 6000 feet above sea level amid the trees. It have can stoning view of the mountains. Wild lands are nearby and wildlife sitings are frequent.

This is not a place to come and party. We welcome guests who are seeking relaxation, rejuvenation, and connection with the natural world. And those who carry respect for nature and their surroundings.

There is also a small loft with a twin-sized bed if you need the extra space. PLEASE NOTE: The loft is accessed by a built in (completely vertical) ladder and is a very compact space that could only sleep one. It would be best suited for a smaller human. Kids seem to love it!

The space has all the essentials you'll need: Wifi, AC for warmer months, gas fireplace for winter, 4-burner gas grill on deck, full bathroom with shower, towels and bedding, shampoo/conditioner, 2-burner electric range, mini fridge, basic kitchen and cooking utensils, kettle, french press, pour over (and coffee and tea), sink, comfy seating area inside and out, four person dining table.

Things the space DOES NOT have that you might consider: washer/dryer, freezer, microwave, oven, dishwasher, toaster.

Please do ALL smoking outside and please do not, under any circumstances, throw your cigarette butts on the ground!

We HIGHLY recommend that you SCREENSHOT directions and DOWNLOAD area map before reaching Paonia. Cell service is VERY spotty.

The water source in the cabins is city water and is safe to drink - it is what we drink and use also!

A quick note: We have two dogs on the property, one of which is slightly protective. It is very unlikely you will see our pups during your visit but if they happen to wander up towards your cabin, please just ignore them and do not engage. While he is the sweetest boy, for liability reasons, we need to say “Beware of Dog”.

Hiking, fishing, biking, climbing, SUP trips, rafting, and art galleries are but a few of the activities our valley has to offer. Get cozy and settle into this rustic but tastefully designed space.

The space
The cabin is located on 4 acres about a mile from town. The views are stunning from this small working farm. The property is a venue with deluxe apartments, glamping tents and cabins, 7 units in all. Bathroom service is provided in an old, repurposed grain bin that is less than 100ft away. It contains 2 full bathrooms, including showers. This cabin has a mini fridge, microwave oven, coffee maker, and ceiling fan. WIFI is available, some devices can access the signal from the cabin which is a few hundred feet from the main house. But cabin guests are welcome to hang out on the porch at the main house to access WIFI if desired. Other guests may be encountered on the porch but it is huge, and deck furniture is clustered with plenty of distance to maintain personal space if desired.

Guest access
The cabin has a gravel parking space within a few feet. Wineries are close enough to walk for guests wanting exercise. Some guests bring bicycles for local transportation.
