Our Yurt is a perfect winter sojourn. We are in a finite zone where the high deserts soar up into the Rocky Mountains. Thus, the wonderful small town of Paonia is temperate in winter, with access to the best winter sporting one direction and calming desert in the other.
In Southwest Colorado 2 miles west of Paonia, is a Yurt nestled on a large wrap around redwood deck anchored by two mature Elms and is wonderful year round . and The building is situated in close proximity to the North Fork of the Gunnison River. The Yurt is a sanctuary far removed from neighbors and below the sight-line and activity of Highway 133.The property meanders above and below the Yurt for a quarter of a mile along the river’s edge. There are established wildlife corridors for Elk and Deer. Eagles, Red Tailed Hawks, and Blue Herons nest on the property or directly across the river. Robins routinely inhabit the trees directly above the sheltering Yurt.
When entering the 700 square foot Yurt, a 14’ high skylight inset in a mad array of knotty Aspen, draws you to its center. Here the fireplace anchors the middle and the remaining amenities unwind to the outside of the circumference. Here there is full ADA kitchen and ADA bathroom, queen size bed, dining table, and sitting area. The surrounding river, mountains and cultivated farmland can be viewed ten different ways through 8 windows and 2 French doors. Think of a random compass point and there you will find a window framing your gaze. There is an openness seldom seen in standard structures. After rubbernecking for a while, your first coherent thought is, ‘I can relax here’. And the reality is, you can.

- "We come to Paonia every year to visit family. This home did not disappoint! The home was absolutely beautiful and very comfortable. There were fresh flowers on the dining room table and music playing when we walked in. Barry & Christina are wonderful hosts. As a professional chef, I found the kitchen to be very well appointed and great to cook in. We had a large front yard to enjoy with our family and the deer that wandered through." - "This farmhouse is in superb condition and so quaint. It has everything you need with all the modern conveniences. The beds were so comfortable and we enjoyed the many spaces for our family of 5 adults. We played scrabble outside and had a visit of a few deer that camped out under the pine tree. It’s a short walk into the heart of Paonia and Grand Ave with restaurants and shopping. We love Paonia!"

Behind one of Paonia's oldest historic homes, you'll find the wonderfully private Studio Cottage.
This spacious studio cottage is nestled in a mature, shady garden with relaxing front porch, a hammock under a grape arbor, and outdoor dining area. Equipped with excellent WIFI, and offering weekly and monthly discounts, it's a wonderful spot for a working vacation.
Waking up to the sounds of birds chirping and wind chimes is complete magic! The cottage is outfitted with everything you could possibly need for a wonderful month, week or weekend in Paonia including a small library of books by local Paonia authors. We DO have good WiFi, but DO NOT have TV.
The cottage is conveniently close to everything that is great about Paonia as downtown is only a five minute walk. There you'll find your choice of great restaurants including the Back Country Bistro, The Living Farm Cafe, The Flying Fork, Louie’s Pizza, and the infamous Revolution Brewery, or attend a movie, concert or yoga class at the wonderful Paradise Theatre or Blue Sage Center for the Arts.
Tour the numerous local wineries which are within a 10 -15 minute drive from the cottage, or take a leisurely drive through the valley to see all the bounty and beauty of our many organic farms and orchards. Great hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding and world-class trout fishing are all within easy reach.
Paonia boasts fantastic musicians, writers, artists and craftspeople along with many festivals such as Cherry Days in July, Mountain Harvest Fest in September, and a local film festival in early Spring.
While visiting Paonia and the North Fork Valley, you will experience some of the most spectacular scenery in Western Colorado; the Black Canyon National Monument, Grand Mesa, West Elks Scenic Byway, the historic mining towns of Redstone and Marble, and both Kebler and McLure passes are all within an hour and a half drive. Crested Butte, Telluride and Aspen are 2 to 2-1/2 hours from Paonia.
- "We were so thrilled with our accommodations. They were just as the property was described but even more wonderful to enjoy in person. Paonia bread works (cash only!) and sweet grass had wonderful breakfast options. All within walking distance. The farms and vineyards are just a quick drive up the road. We would absolutely stay here again should we find ourselves in Paonia." - "We loved our stay in this adorable guest cottage in Paonia. Quiet spot in town, with a lovely garden. Definitely recommend a nap in the hammock! The town is very walkable - we only used our car when we wanted to visit the nearby wineries. Highly recommend Berg Harvest & Mercantile for visitors to Paonia. There is no microwave in the kitchen, which meant we needed to get creative with heating up our leftovers. That was minor enough that it did not diminish our enjoyment. The bed is comfortable, and the cottage cools off nicely with the in-unit AC during the heat of the day. At night we simply opened the windows. With the altitude, the nights are cool and pleasant. We will look here first when we come back to Paonia!"

Our country farmhouse is located on Garvin Mesa within 7 minutes of the town of Paonia. The home is surrounded by many trees and running water making it feel like an oasis. It has two private, comfortable bedrooms, one with a king bed and the other has a queen bed. The contemporary bathroom has a walk-in shower. The full kitchen is well equipped with everything you'll need for food preparation. Outside, you'll find a cooling effect from all the trees blowing in the breeze and water flowing through the streams. For your outdoor relaxation, there are plenty of places to slow down and relax including comfortable chairs and benches. A large area of lawn surrounds the house to help cool things down with the West Elk Mountains providing the perfect backdrop to complete the scene.
One of the outbuildings adjacent to the house once housed the first location of KVNF, Paonia's Community Radio station (1979).
The Paonia area is a great place to bring your bicycles and tour around town or down some of the country lanes. There are many local hiking trails available as well.
Our rental property is adjacent to our lavender farm of around 1200 plants and during May, June and July, we’ll be working in the fields tending to the plants, irrigating and harvesting. We always strive to preserve our guests privacy and peacefulness while we work. We do not operate any machinery while we have guests and we have an open invitation to our guests to come down to the lavender and learn more about lavender on our operating farm.
The end of September brings the annual Mountain Harvest Festival held in the Paonia Park. This festival features music and other entertainment as well as offering local produce and crafts.
The property is located within easy walking distance of the Stone Cottage Winery. Two others, Black Bridge Winery and Azura Winery, are a very short drive from the house.
There are many other wineries and vineyards scattered throughout the North Fork Valley easily accessible by car.
Day trips from the house to places like Crested Butte, the Grand Mesa or the Black Canyon National Park are entirely possible.
- "This place was beautiful and super convenient from town. Beautiful views with great host." - "We loved every part of our stay at this beautiful home. The property is so absolutely breathtaking. We enjoyed the wild life especially, and the lavender fields are spectacular as well as the magnificent trees. We loved visiting with "Honey" the chicken who came to visit us each day. The only drawback is the difficulty in getting in and out of the driveway, but we managed fine."

This is an awesome oasis in Paonia with everything you need nearby! Catalpa Cottage is a beautiful 1-bedroom, 1 bathroom newly renovated cottage with awesome views! A private space, with easy access to the deck from both the kitchen and bedroom. A fire pit area to relax and watch the sun go down and enjoy the dark skies of Paonia. Easy access, and a 10 minute walk, to Grand Avenue.
- "Catulpa Cottage is a hidden treasure. It was just perfect as a home base for us for our hiking adventures off Kebler Pass. Mornings on the deck and evenings by the fire pit capped our days. Visits to nearby wineries and breweries were an added treat. The Cottage is well furnished and had everything we needed. It was very functional as well....with a spacious kitchen and bathroom and plenty of room for all of our gear." - "This is a beautiful cottage in a cool little town. Susan was a very accommodating host. My only warning is that if you absolutely need WiFi, it’s very spotty and cell reception is not good. But if you are looking to unplug, this is a great retreat!"

The Grove Yurt is a primitive living situation by the current "Condo-ified" standards of our 21st century housing needs. It is furnished in the well appointed farm house style of the 1930s in the Midwest. Many of the furnishings are actually from that time. We have, for instance, a composting toilet, set in a horse trailer, in keeping with that time.(we provide toilet paper, not Sears and Roebuck catalog pages for wiping). We have now added a shower house with bathroom sink, large tiled shower, power( for devices) , and toilet situated close-by in the adjoining natural meadow.
The Yurt is also in the round, which is seldom seen in our current construction palette. After a stay in the Grove Yurt, you will have become accustomed to its natural flow and long for them in your own home. After leaving, and returning to the world of forbidding corners, you will feel similar to those who have been at sea and return to stagger upon the dry land anticipating movement beneath their feet.
The Grove Yurt is nestled in a grove of Large and Narrow Leaf Cottonwoods with the river situated directly opposite. There is an unobstructed view of the surrounding mountains rising from our valleys organic farmland. (we have more organic farms Per capita of anywhere in the US). Inside the Grove Yurt, you can spin like Julie Andrews on her mountaintop and nothing can impede the 360-degree panorama framed by 8 - 4 x 4 foot windows, glazed Double French doors and an 8' x 8'screened opening. The city townhouses we see on late night movies, are generally 20' wide. The Yurt is 30' in diameter. When crossing the threshold, the Yurts fourteen-foot ceiling terminated by a four-foot tinted Plexiglas dome does have an impact after being at the river. We have a dining table, complete with hanging candelabra leading to certain Gothic overtones. The light, sound and smell waft right through the screened openings, giving the impression of being in the forest, but only slightly removed.
The king-size bed is placed next to this opening so that guests' attention is often balanced between the activities beyond the dome and the soundtrack of noises from the forest inches away. Heat is maintained through a well-stocked wood-burning stove and all the necessary tools to maintain a roaring fire late into the night. There is a leather rocking chair in which guests very well might fade into ultimate relaxation. The chandelier of course, reveals the rafters in ever changing lights and shadows of the soaring roof rafters with the morning and evening river breezes.
Directly outside, near the entrance, is an outdoor simple kitchen with limited cold water steel sink with prep area, ice refrigerator and gas stove. There is a composting toilet by Everlet in a horse trailer with all the niceties 20 paces from the yurt along a solar-lighted path. There is a four-person teak table directly on the river for outdoor dining. The Grove Yurt is the perfect place for rest, relaxation and a secluded getaway. It is removed on the south end of a 35 acre parcel. Our closest neighbor Delicious Orchards is known for its hard cider and organic fruit, a leisurely walk through the orchard for delicious food, often live music and a tastes of local produce in season. In addition, guests will have access to the rest of the property that stretches for a quarter of a mile along the river’s edge. Guests can expect to see amazing wildlife like elk, deer, eagles, red-tailed hawks, king fisher and blue herons and the sweet river otter family known to make an appearance for the most patient observer.
- "Exactly what we needed." - "Wonderful location with a beautiful setup, views, and attractions. Couldn’t have asked for a better getaway. The cool evenings really make it’s way into the Yurt so sleeping was no issue even with the hot days 😌" - "This is a great place for a getaway during the summer. The yurt was super clean and had tons of comforts. Bed was great. They provided everything for you and so we had overpacked a bit. Outdoor kitchenette, grill, firewood and pit, chairs, outhouse/porta potty, every kind of tool you would need, a small outbuilding with a shower, sink and toilet. The river right next to us was great(the dog jumped in to cool down) and the orchard nearby had a live music concert with food, ciders, and beer. We had a great time and the hosts were amazing."

Cozy log cabin on Fort Austin, a working farm. Incredible views from the center of Paonia`s wine country. Perfect hub for day trips to Crested Butte, Black Canyon, Grand Mesa, Historic Marble, Aspen, Ouray, Gateway and Telluride. Hiking, fishing, biking, climbing, SUP trips, rafting, and art galleries are but a few of the activities our valley has to offer. Get cozy and settle into this rustic but tastefully designed space.
The cabin is located on 4 acres about a mile from town. The views are stunning from this small working farm. The property is a venue with deluxe apartments, glamping tents and cabins, 7 units in all. Bathroom service is provided in an old, repurposed grain bin that is less than 100ft away. It contains 2 full bathrooms, including showers. This cabin has a mini fridge, microwave oven, coffee maker, and ceiling fan. WIFI is available, some devices can access the signal from the cabin which is a few hundred feet from the main house. But cabin guests are welcome to hang out on the porch at the main house to access WIFI if desired. Other guests may be encountered on the porch but it is huge, and deck furniture is clustered with plenty of distance to maintain personal space if desired.
The cabin has a gravel parking space within a few feet. Wineries are close enough to walk for guests wanting exercise. Some guests bring bicycles for local transportation.
Tim enjoys interacting with guests but respects their space if privacy, peace and quiet are what they are looking for. Guests are invited to hang out on the huge log porch at the main lodge. Tim often enjoys coffee in the morning or a cold beer in the evening out on the porch where the stunning mountain views are addicting. Bring cigars, cognac, or beer and sit a spell. Great conversation, fun stories, respect, peace, kindness, acceptance and laughs are but a few things you will find interacting with Tim.
You can walk or bike to local wineries or downtown Paonia. But automobile seems to be the preferred mode of transportation for guests.

- "Definitely a little bit of luxury with a little bit of rustic. Very nice property perfectly placed to enjoy Paonia and surrounding area!" - "We enjoyed hanging out by the fire pit area and watching the sunset our first night there. Our cabin was very comfy even though it was quite warm. We took day trips to Crawford State Park and Paonia State Reservoir where we enjoyed a little SUP time. Verizon cell service doesn’t pick up signal from Carbondale down or Crested Butte so be sure to get directions or send messages far out. We did have great WiFi in the cabin so we could check messages etc. The cabins are well spaced so we felt like we had the place to ourselves. We will be back!"

- "This was a very comfortable, roomy and charming property -both in the house and in the plant and tree lovers garden. Everything went smoothly and host Lori was communicative and helpful. Located on quiet street within very easy walking distance of main town. Would stay there again in a heartbeat." - "Pictures don't give it justice! It was just what we needed. We have 2 kids and mornings were for swinging while us adults enjoyed sipping coffee on the couch watching from their great big windows. House was secluded by plants and trees which made us feel cozy but yet close enough to walk to anything in town. We went to visit family but I highly suggest this place if you need a break while visiting lol. We won't be staying anywhere else when visiting now. This was my first vrbo experience and I was super nervous but Lori was communicative the whole time and the house was over any expectation I had. We even had a change of plans and she accommodated it without a second thought. Thank you so so much for an incredible stay. -The Peetoom Family."

- "Adorable little cabin, super comfy bed and a porch with a beautiful view. Only downfall was the traffic noise from the highway but this also meant it was easy access to hit the road and head to the great outdoors. I would definitely book here again." - "Great place & people. Convenient location. We would have liked to know there’s a mini-fridge in cabin and bathrooms are in a separate facility." - "Most comfortable bed is stay in anywhere! Amazing views from the porches..Water access is via outside spigots like campgrounds, except they were being overwatered by sprinklers using non- potable irrigation water that you had to get wet accessing, otherwise it was the sink in the bathroom. Sprinklers over sprayed the access road to the cabins, not ideal on a motorcycle. Two bathrooms were creatively installed under a grain bin, however, the only vent was an open window exposing you to showering and using the Lieu..Overall nice, but over priced."

The Rockin’ Rose Ranch is a 320-acre "Legacy" guest/cattle ranch rich in history. It is close to towns and cities, yet a secluded Western Colorado paradise set in a private valley with a rustic feel reminiscent of Montana but with a milder climate. Muddy Creek borders the northern boundary, and many spring-fed ponds provide both stock water and wildlife habitat. A sizable pond below the main ranch compound is stocked with trout. A beautiful, rustic ranch gate leads to an impressive entry lane with vintage pole fencing on both sides all the way to the ranch compound.
The updated Rustic improvements include a main cabin with fireplace that features a generous light-filled sun porch/dining area, a large deck, living room, and half bath and 4 bedrooms with queen-size beds.
