You will not be able to see clearly much father than 5ft in front of you when underwater. There are objects and wildlife on the bottom of the river, floating on top of the river and suspended everywhere else in between. Certain types of debris and/or certain types of species of animals that call the Savannah River home, can and will cause severe injury to you, your guests and/or pets, that could result in serious injury or death if any in which enter the water.

FISHING - Walmart (less than 10 minutes away) has a full fishing department where live bait can be purchased. Fishing is ONLY allowed off the boat itself, not the dock. Guest Reviews:

- "I booked this place for a couple nights while attending a conference at the Marriott convention center just up the river walk. It exceeded my expectations. The boat was more like an apartment than a boathouse. Clean and spacious. Each night I sat having a drink on the upper deck watching ducks float in the reflected lights from the bridge. If you’re looking for a spot in Augusta this is it." - "It was a great stay." - "Looking for a quiet getaway? This is the place. My husband and I were looking for quiet and relaxation. We found it. The house boat is very spacious and comfortable. The bed is so comfortable; we slept like babies! Two heating/AC units keep the boat at a perfect temperature. My husband spent the majority of his time fishing and bird watching from the back deck. We are already looking to book our next visit to the Savannah Rae!!"

The space:

The main entrance to the boat invites you into your main living area where you’ll find adequate leisure and entertainment space for up to four people. Moving into your space and energy saver kitchen, you’ll have a closeted stacked washer/dryer unit for you to use with complimentary laundry detergent and whitening pods. Enjoy a cozy reading nook which overlooks the boats original paddle wheel and the Savannah River.

Heading upstairs (really tall folks mind your head), your first room on the right has twin sized bunk beds with breathtaking views of the river. Adjacent to this room is a walk-in, multi-functional space that can easily store larger belongings or act as dressing room for special occasions.

Walking down your shiplap hallway find a full bath with walk-in shower that sits next to your “full” sized bedroom with wrap around windows displaying views of the marina, river and Downtown Augusta.

Your outdoor space includes a front patio that wraps around the lower deck, up the staircase and onto the upper level, rear entertainment space. The entire inside and outside decks of the The General are open for use. Access to the rooftop is prohibited.

We offer early check-in (12 NOON) and late check-out (1PM) for $50/occurrence. Availability is based on a first pay/first service basis and may not be available in all cases. ( i.e. guest pays $50 for a 1PM late check out, there would be no option for the next guest to pay $50 for an early 12 NOON check-in. ) We recommend that you request either or both when sending your initial introduction message upon booking.

You will have a lockbox attached to the main gate fence. The code will be communicated to you just before check-in.
Other things to note since we don’t want any surprises when you arrive.
Here are some things to expect:
DOWNTOWN - Downtown is walkable. If you're attending an event at the Miller Theatre, Imperial or dinner and drinks on Broad Street expect a 5 to 10 minute walk depending on where.
Dining? Try Luigis for some the oldest of old school Augusta fare. https://www.luigisinc.com/
Or Sports Center for a very casual watering hole and the best burger in Augusta (if it's not sold out) https://www.facebook.com/sportscenteraugusta/

SAVANNAH RIVER - We see many different species of wildlife both in and out of the water. Insects, reptiles, birds and fish will all make a presence here on the river. We spray the outside of the boat with natural insecticides to minimize insects from intruding your space. But it's nature. Keeping the doors opened to a minimum and closing them behind you, especially in the summer months will also help tremendously.

FISHING - We do not supply any fishing gear but Walmart (less than 10 minutes away) has a full fishing department and counter to purchase a Georgia Fishing License. Fishing is only allowed off the boat itself, not the dock. But given its 70 foot length you'll have plenty of room! Visit Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources website to read all rules and regulations before casting your line.

MARINE TOILET - We have a zero tolerance policy for any kind of waste to enter the river. The toilet used on the boat is top of the line Marina grade Sanitation system and though looks like the one used at your home, there is some nuance. We supply the bathroom with a marine grade toilet paper which is the only thing besides human waste that should be flushed. A $400 charge applies to any waste system failure that is caused by any prohibited object or thing you flush that might clog or imped the macerator and sanitation system.

INSIDE TEMPERATURE - You’re glamping in a houseboat that sits in direct sunlight from sunrise to sunset. There is a brand new mini split AC system on the boat and works fabulously but you may find that the temperature inside the boat may hot (or colder) than the outdoor temperature. For example during the summer months in Augusta, we climb into the upper 90’s with heat indexes in excess of 115’.

Beautiful Mainship Boat on the Savannah River
Boat Rental
North Augusta

Docked at 5th Street Marina, this cozy boat offers spectacular views of the morning sunrises and evening sunsets over the Savannah River. Tucked near the end of the marina for extra peace and quiet, yet minutes from Downtown Augusta’s best food and entertainment venues. Relax on the back porch or upper level skybridge where there is seating for two, or inside watching favorite shows on a 40” Roku TV. Fast WiFi is perfect for work travelers and comfortable bed is even better for couples.

The space
Welcome aboard your Downtown Augusta getaway, the Calvados! Docked at the quiet end of 5th Street Marina, this beautiful boat is perfect for couples or solo travelers looking for a peaceful escape on the river — with unbeatable downtown convenience.

Wake up to breathtaking sunrises over the Savannah River and enjoy freshly roasted and ground coffee on the private back deck or the skybridge above. Inside, you’ll find a cozy living area with a Roku TV and free Wi-Fi, a well-stocked kitchenette with everything you need for simple meals, a full bathroom with fresh towels, and a very comfortable bed ready for a restful night’s sleep.

The boat is tucked away for extra privacy but is just minutes from downtown’s restaurants, shops, entertainment venues, and a short drive to Augusta National. Whether you’re here for work or a quiet getaway, this unique stay offers a memorable experience with all the charm of river life.

Guest access
The entire boat is available for use plus the area around the propane grill located just outside on the dock. Please, and we’ll say this again, PLEASE be aware that the clear acrylic hatch that you would open to access the top deck is heavy and must be clipped while it stays open. If it’s not, IT WILL fall shut and obviously will not check to make sure your fingers and more importantly your head is out of the way first.

Other things to note
GLAMPING - The only difference between the houseboat and a camper is the ground beneath or lack thereof.

FISHING - Personally, Walmart is my go-to “everything you’ll ever need or want” fishing solution and is less than 10 minutes away. In its fishing department you will also find that live bait can be purchased. From personal experience, the earlier you’re able to get there, the better selection of live bait you’ll have to choose from. Fishing is ONLY allowed off the boat itself, not the dock. Visit Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources website to purchase a fishing license and to read all rules and regulations before casting your line. GOOD LUCK and send pictures of your fish!

Please note that there are two breakers that will need to be turned on, in order for bathroom to function correctly. This is one of the pieces that we will go over upon check-in.

Ladies, I apologize ahead of time but due to the nature of this boats electrical panel, the use of a hairdryer is prohibited. It will almost instantaneously flip the breaker. We use the term here, “RIVER HAIR, DON’T CARE”

ALL GUESTS MUST BE 13 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER. NO EXCEPTIONS. GUESTS NOT ACCOUNTED FOR ON YOUR RESERVATION ARE PROHIBITED FROM STAYING OVERNIGHT. I have the above capitalized not because I do not want you to enjoy time with family/friends. It’s due solely on my #1 priority, which is safety.

Its rooftop deck has an obstruction free view of the Freedom Bridge which allows pedestrians to cross the natural state border between Georgia and South Carolina along with the iconic 1912 Southern Railroad Bridge that is still active today.

**Still active, meaning that trains cross the bridge at all hours of the day and/or night. There is a VERY likely chance that a train will cross during the hours of normal sleeping (10pm-8am) and more than likely WILL WAKE YOU UP.**

Go ahead and read all of that again, starting with “Still active”. 😁 From personal experience and comments from previous guests, the rumble of the train and/or the loud horn has never created an unsuitable experience. In fact, I continuously ask guests their thoughts and more than 9 out of 10 guests find it pretty awesome and one of the highlights of their stay.

An open concept living, dining and cooking space makes for entertaining very easy while also providing unforgettable views through the large windows and sliding glass doors. A 55” HD LCD with attached Roku Soundbar will be in guest mode which allows you to use your own streaming services and will automatically log out of them on the day of check-out. The futon folds out to a full-sized bed, high top table sits four, kitchen has a refrigerator/freezer (bagged ice), dishwasher, microwave, countertop convection oven, two eye countertop induction cooktop (induction cookware), and small cooking appliances to accommodate any type of meal preparation. The adjacent wet bar has a Keurig stocked with Starbucks coffee and everyday additives. An electric water kettle and French press are stored above. A propane stove/oven is present but is disconnected for safety reasons.

A full sized washer and dryer (laundry detergent, fabric softener, bleach alternative pods and dryer sheets) is available for use. Bleach is prohibited to be used by the State of Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Bathroom has full-sized walk-in shower fully stocked with shower and after shower essentials, 100% cotton bath towels, high end marine toilet, three shelf vanity and privacy frosted window.

Queen sized bedroom has a large window and back sliding glass door for back patio access. A 40” LCD TV has attached Roku also in Guest Mode. Left hand closet has bath robes, United States Coast Guard approved lifejackets and ironing board while an iron, bag of charcoal and grilling accessories are above on the shelf. FLUFFY COW SAFETY DISCLAIMER! 🐮🏕️🙏🏼
For the safety of our guests and our beloved fluffy cows, we only allow one free-roaming, very friendly, picture perfect Highland cow in the pasture at a time, as well as multiple sheep and alpacas! These cows naturally establish a hierarchy, and when humans offer attention or treats, they can get competitive and go after each other. This means you won't find a herd of Highland cows surrounding your yurt. You'll still get to meet other fluffy cows included free of charge during our ‘Mobile Moo Crew Hour’ where our staff will bring another fluffy cow on halter as well as additional brushes and even hair bows to style their hair! By booking your stay, you agree and understand that there will only be 1 fluffy cow, multiple sheep and alpacas unsupervised in the free roaming pasture near your yurt.

WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBILITY DISCLAIMER
At our glamping campsite, we want all our guests to have a wonderful experience. To reach your yurt, you'll need to navigate some gravel paths and gentle hills. While we've happily hosted many guests using wheelchairs who thoroughly enjoyed their stay, please be aware that there are no paved sidewalks leading to the yurts, and each yurt entrance has wooden steps. We want to ensure you have all the information to plan a comfortable and accessible visit.
