Unique Stays in White Salmon, WA: Explore the Unusual

Airstream forest retreat
RV Rental
White Salmon

Secluded forest getaway in the hills above White Salmon in the Columbia River Gorge. Located within walking distance to one of the Gorge's premier wildflower trails. Enjoy a quiet spot in the woods in an updated and well appointed Airstream. Only twenty minutes from town. An ideal spot if you're looking for an escape from the city, or a spot to stay after a nearby wedding, or adventure day in the Gorge.

The space
A fully remodeled and updated 1981 Airstream International travel trailer featuring a large covered deck, two claw foot bathtubs (one indoors, one outdoors), outdoor shower, kitchenette, full-size bed, and indoor + outdoor dining areas + grill.

Nestled within an 8-acre property, located at the end of a county-maintained 3-mile gravel road and a quarter-mile private driveway. The property is surrounded by a public natural resource conservation area which is home to a county maintained hiking trail that passes through the mixed Oak / Fir woodland. Abundant wildlife includes Deer, multitudes of songbirds, the endangered Washington Western Gray Squirrel, and yes, the occasional Black Bear and Mountain Lion.

The owners / hosts, Camille and Paul, live nearby & elsewhere on the property with their cats, Maeve & Frank.

Please ensure our location suits your needs prior to booking:
Distance to White Salmon: 9 miles, 20 min
Distance to Hood River: 13 miles, 30 min
Distance to Trout Lake: 30 miles, 45 min

Guest access
Guests have exclusive access to the Airsteam, deck, and adjacent parking area.

Guests have access to the portion of the driveway going up to the Airsteam. The driveway beyond the Airsteam is private.

WELDON WAGON TRAIL ACCESS
The trailhead can be accessed from the airstream by foot or car, by going back down the driveway, and turning left/west onto Sanborn. Altogether, the distance between the Airsteam and trailhead is about 1/3 mile. The trail itself meanders through woodland and steep open meadow, affording spectacular views of Mt. Hood and Husum Valley.

Other things to note
No dogs permitted, as much as we love them. We live adjacent to a wildlife sanctuary that is home to endangered animals, where dogs are not permitted due to the wide sensory net they cast that wildlife avoid. We offer the wildlife the same sanctuary on our property.

Property is off-grid, solar powered, and fully functional.

TOILET - The Airstream does not have a flushing toilet - it instead utilizes a modern, water-friendly composting toilet system which has a few simple instructions for use located next to the toilet. Essentially, please be seated for all use, and utilize the hatch & mixing knob for No.2's.

BATHING - The outdoor shower is in a standard sized clawfoot tub, in a private open-air space on the deck. The smaller, interior claw foot bathtub has no stand-up shower.

KITCHENETTE - The three-burner manual propane stove is lit by hand with either a match or lighter, provided. The refrigerator is a 3.1 cubic foot two-door mini-fridge with freezer, ice trays provided. There is no oven or ‘wave. The kitchen is fully supplied, including a tea kettle + tea bags, coffee carafe + ground Colombian, cooking utensils, ceramic non-stick pots & pans, 12" cast iron pan, and glass-wear. There is a propane grill on the deck.

CELL PHONE RECEPTION - Reception at the airstream is weak. Most guests have one to two bars of cell phone reception, depending on their provider. Better reception up the driveway on Sanborn Rd. There is no WIFI. Enjoy EMF-free forest bathing!

REALITIES TO EXPECT:
- Being an Airstream, this is a step up from glamping, and more 'RV' than 'modern home.'
- The bed is Full sized, so a bit smaller than a Queen - so not big.
- Being in the Gorge, Fall/Spring sees variable temps & weather (and is often gorgeous). There is duct heating in the airstream, and it runs a bit loud for light sleepers (Pendleton wool blankets supplied per request, in addition to the comforter provided).
- Summer can be hot, dry and smokey. No A/C, but the forest canopy keeps the space in mostly shade throughout the day. Breezes are common, and also help cool things down.
- Insects are alive and well here (a point of pride & wonder for us). There can be mosquitos, though a breeze might keep them moving.
- While there is no poison oak near the airstream, there are some areas of it on the Weldon Wagon trail. Ticks can be present in grassy areas, especially when the weather is moist.

Most Common Questions:

✓ What’s the cooking situation? The kitchen is small but mighty, totally capable of cooking a meal.

✓ Is there a bathroom? Yes, with a real regular toilet and nice shower.

✓ Is there running water? Absolutely, the shower and sink have hot water!

✓ Is there electricity? Yes! We have outlets to plug in your cell phone however the system can't handle medical devices such as C-PAP machines.

✓ Is there WIFI? No! This is on purpose; we want you to disconnect and enjoy everything mother nature has to offer. However, cell service is available at the campsite.

✓ Is there heat? Yes! We have a space heater keeping you warm on chilly nights. However, it can get very cold in the winter so please pack accordingly.

Other things to note
✓ This is an original, vintage trailer from the 50s. It’s super cool and a fun experience. But it’s also still vintage. There are occasional beauty marks that we think show the character. It is not a pristine, modern trailer from 2022.

✓ Dogs are allowed during your stay for an additional $20 fee per dog. We do ask that dogs do NOT get on the beds out of respect for other people's allergies.

✓ This is meant to be a glamping experience for you to enjoy mother nature and it's very important for us to be upfront about what you are going to experience as we do not want to be dinged in our reviews for things out of our control. We hope you enjoy your stay!
