Welcome to Mawhiti Cottage. We hope that you have a wonderful stay in our much loved home, so named because this is the perfect place to switch off, forget the world and just relax! Mawhiti is the Maori word for ‘escape’; the very essence of what our cottage offers: peace, tranquillity, and serenity. The sunsets are amazing, the soothing sound of the waves in the background, and the stunning views make it one of the most special places to stay in the area. It is wild and windy though, and sand gets in everywhere, but if you are ok with that, just sit back and enjoy the magic of the setting. If you choose to keep in touch with the modern world, we have fibre optic internet, which means that you can take your laptop to the table on the deck and work from home, enjoying the views and sea air.

Mawhiti Cottage is very close to the Northern Wairoa Golf Club, where you can enjoy either a 9 or 18 hole round of golf for a very reasonable green fee, and golf carts are also available to hire.

A few important things to note before booking:
*The price per night is for two people. At this time, we are limiting guest numbers to two people only.

*You will need to supply all of your own linen. The beds have pillows and duvets.

* Because of our eco-friendly sewerage system, guests are requested to only use eco friendly personal products at the cottage.

*Please note that access to the cottage is down a short grassy slope, which can be slippery when wet. Those with mobility issues may find this a challenge.

*At this stage, outdoor living is limited to the very large ocean facing deck as work is not yet complete on the other outdoor areas. Currently, there are still some building materials on the cottage grounds.

Located 2.5 hrs north of Auckland Airport. We are only 8km north of Dargaville, and then 4 minutes to Baylys Beach. Kai Iwi Lakes is 20 minutes away for a swim. Waipoua Forest and the mighty Tane Mahuta is only a 40 minute drive, with Opononi being just a day trip away.
The unit is spacious and families are welcome or if you just want some space to unwind and relax. Two bedroom unit - B1: one Queen bed B2: one Queen bed and bunks that can easily be dropped to be two singles still leaving ample space in the room. There is a open lounge / kitchen / dining area and separate bathroom.

The space
Upstairs features 2 bedrooms (both with king sized beds), a family bathroom, separate toilet and kitchen/ lounge/ dining with easy flow onto wrap around deck. Lounge features comfy reclining chairs, 50" smart TV, and plenty of games to keep the family entertained in the evenings. You'll love the separate downstairs retreat, complete with 2x bunk beds (bottom doubles, top singles), movie projector (smart TV enabled with Netflix/ Disney) with soundbar and subwoofer. A new heatpump keeps the space comfortable all year round. A table tennis table and Arcade machine will keep the family entertained. Additional fridge space available downstairs if needed. Plenty of space to play in the fenced backyard and surrounding quiet streets. Outdoor games and beach/ sun shelter also provided

Guest access
The entire property will be yours to enjoy without interruption. A concrete pad/ washdown area, complete with fish cleaning bench is available to you after a days exploring. A barbeque is available on the outdoor deck near the dining room for your use. Toaster, tea and coffee making facilities and a few condiments are available for guests to use. There is a locked storage room at the rear of the house that will remain inaccessible throughout your stay. A garage at the bottom of the section will also remain locked.

Other things to note
Clean and tidy throughout, however some metal components of the exterior are showing signs of exposure to a west coast marine environment with some corrosion (there will also be sea salt spray on the windows!) The Decor in the entrance and hallway is typical of a 1970s home complete with patterned wallpaper and dark wood trims. Someone with an eye for detail will spot a few minor imperfections in the walls and kitchen benchtop. The number of beds made up will be agreed prior to check in.

The golden sand beach known as Ripiro beach is New Zealand’s longest drivable at 107km and boasts great fishing, surfing, relaxation and picture perfect sunsets.

The house was really lovely, clean and new, and had all the basics you need (except for wine glasses and ice trays, but they might not be staples for everyone!). :-) The beach is nice and close but be prepared for an uphill hike back to the house. - "We enjoyed our stay here at the Old school house. The old wing does have its own charm but it’s quite old smelling and squeaky compared to the new wing, which is very nicely renovated. The old wing could do with some renovation to eradicate the worn out carpet smell and hinge sounds when you walk upstairs. Otherwise it’s a good stay place for large groups and very close to Dargaville restaurants and supermarket. Would highly recommend staying here when around. Hosts were very easy to communicate with and everything was very well organised"

Well-maintained, fully refurbished including new kitchen and paint with a beautiful garden in a quite location. Just 13 km away from Dargavile, The Kumara (sweet potatoes) Capital of New Zealand. The property is very handy to the Rapiro beach with only 300 M of a short-walk.
The property has public water, electricity and gas for cooking . The appliances include: a TV set, wireless internet, an electric oven, gas hob, microwave, range hood, 4-slot toaster, kettle (all electric), refrigerator, dishwasher and, all cutlery items, plates/cups and cooking pots. All appliances are brand new. The wood burner (again new) with plenty of wood for burning. The hot water cylinder is massive capacity with plenty of water for a hot shower. A toilet /bathroom combo, a separate toilet and one large bathroom add to the comfort of guests. Other amenities include bedding, bath towels and soap. The property comes with a pantry including a supply of tea/coffee, sugar and a selection of spices. A charcoal BBQ can be provided if needed to be well cleaned after use. All above supplies and amenities are included in the booking price.

Brand new home nice location, great view close walk to beach. Will be a nice place to escape to with the family for a weekend. Lots of room to play back yard cricket and other out door games, it's about a 10-15 min drive back to the shops but there is a great burger shop 2 mins around the road. Will suit all kinds of familys or just couples looking for a weekend or a nite away from the city life.

all linen including towels and sheets are washed with disinfectant
all kitchen surfaces and door handles are wiped down with disinfectant cloths
you may prefer to bring your own pillow and pillow case for personal safety
all beds have mattress protectors that are cleaned regularly with disinfectant
all cleaning is completed by people in good health
protective gloves are worn by cleaners

Very relaxed atmosphere from our family bach, self contained with everything you would expect for your holiday. Located in Ocean View Terrace and only a quick walk down to the beach. Right opposite the walking track to see the amazing ocean views. Up the hill is Sharky's Restaurant/ Takeaway shop. Not far is the Northern Wairoa Golf Course. Set in a very quiet location. #30 was originally built in the 1990's but has had renovations done. There are two large bedrooms with queen beds as well as another room with single bed which has its own en-suite. There is a large open plan living area well furnished with a smart tv just bring your own account, Freeview connected.

There is a small deck at back facing onto a large section which in turn backs onto the local camp ground. Barbeque will be available as you watch the evening sun set.

Full kitchen with some basic supplies.

Towels for house will be provided but please bring your own beach towels
