Whangaumu Bay has a wide white sandy beach which is safe to swim in and boats can launch at all tides.
Our family beach home is situated across a quiet no exit road looking over a public reserve and the water from the main lounge and living area upstairs. Upstairs also has 2 double bedrooms, a bathroom with a shower over the bath, and a large deck with the BBQ and large outdoor table. Also a smaller deck is a off the main lounge and the front bedroom. Both decks are totally secure for little ones.
Downstairs has another large lounge, with a mini kitchen - jug, toaster, sink and microwave. One of the three double bedrooms here also has a single bed in it. All beds are comfortable. All rooms open to outside. The downstairs bathroom only has a shower. 2 flat screen TVs show Sky. Wireless broadband password is available on site.
The large covered downstairs deck protects an outside lounge suite beside the hammock and overlooking the back yard.
The tree shaded, fully fenced section has an outdoor toilet and shower with another hot water outside shower over an outside bath. The latter is heaps of fun to clean off sand and get warm again after coming home from the beach (or to watch for comets and satellites among the stars after dark!)
The trampoline has a new safety cage (2020)
There is one large old caravan on site if someone wants to sleep outside the house.
We have a boat mooring in the Bay. Please enquire about availability and cost.
When other attractions call, coffee and more is only 5 mins away! Tutukaka has 4 restuarants, a few tourist shops and a store which also sells petrol. From the Marina go out on the 'Perfect Day' for a day's snorkel at the world famous dive ground of The Poor Knights.
Ngunguru Village has 3 more resturants, store, and the recreation centre with 9 holes golf course, tennis and bowls. You can walk to Ngunguru via the coast. Stunning views and pretty river beaches for swimming on the way.
Walks and other beaches both flat and surf are all along the Tutukaka Coast. Matapouri Bay, Whale Bay, Sandy Bay and Woolies Bay.
We enjoy letting our home esp. to extended families. Over Christmas we prefer 5 to 10 day bookings.

Tui Cottage is sited in a rural and nature filled environment, elevated and private, with views to the ocean and the Poor Knights islands. It is totally self contained and recently renovated with a new kitchen and bathroom with polished concrete floors and macrocarpa ceiling throughout. The bed is a super king (can be split) and there is a sofa bed. There is room for a tent behind the cottage. Rain water (soft and pure) is collected and filtered with an alpine series NFS approved water filtration and ultraviolet water purification system.
The deck looks out to views of the Poor Knights and surrounding forest and native bush. Star gaze at night to the sound of the local kiwis. In the morning wake to the Tuis and Woodpidgeons. It has it's own private drive and place to fillet the fish. 5km to Matapouri or Tutukaka there are so many beaches to explore. Whangaumu 91 is a well equipped, modern, multi-story house with multiple indoor and outdoor living spaces. The house is on the hill immediately above the beach, set in native bush, and has stunning beach and sunset views, yet only a 3 minute walk to the beach. Wake up to the sounds of waves crashing on the beach below, and tuis in the trees outside.

The upper floor has the master bedroom (with king bed and ensuite bathroom), lounge, laundry and separate toilet, well equipped kitchen, and dining area. There is a balcony for sunbathing and views of the beach (dolphins and even orca can occasionally be seen in the bay below). There is also a large, private, paved terrace area with Weber gas BBQ, for outdoor dining and relaxing.

The middle floor has two more bedrooms (one bedroom has 1x queen bed, the other bedroom has 1x single bed (child access only) and 1x double bed in a bunk format (single on top, double is below), bathroom, and another lounge - so the kids can relax away from the parents. There is also a kitchenette with tea & coffee making supplies and a desk which can be used as a workspace for those having to catch up on emails while on holiday! The garage on the lower level has internal access to the house, and is where the kayaks, body boards and beach toys are found.

There are two televisions, one with Apple TV for guests to sign in to Netflix etc. The kids can watch DVDs or play games on the other TV.

Unlimited, high speed Starlink internet is provided free.

Two single-person kayaks are provided, along with 2 adult lifejackets and 2 children’s lifejackets. We also provide two bodyboards, and even “bucket and spade” toys for the little ones to play in the sand.

There is a garage for one car, plus off-street parking. The driveway is steep but easily managed. There is room enough to park a small trailer boat/jet ski if you are comfortable reversing a trailer on a hill. Boats and jet skis can be launched from Whangaumu Bay directly below the house.

We provide initial bed linen and towels, and don't apply a standard cleaning charge: so no hidden costs!

On the upstairs level, the bedrooms are laid out with a master bedroom, ensuite and walk in wardrobe that leads onto the swooping north facing deck, along with 2 bedrooms fitted each with a comfortable Queen bed and 1 bedroom fitted with 2 comfortable single beds. Main upstairs bathroom consists of a shower over bath and a separate toilet. There is a double garage which gives you internal access into the home which has an extra toilet and laundry facilities.

The downstairs consists of open plan kitchenette, dining, lounge and a double bed. There is also a separate bedroom fitted with a double bed and a combined shower/toilet facility. All beds fitted with electric blankets.

After your departure the Holiday Manager will inspect the property to make sure it was left in a reasonable clean and tidy condition, and that there was no damage to any items or the property itself.

Please ensure your rubbish and recycling was removed, dishes cleaned and put away and that if there is a bbq, that it was left clean, as these items are not included in any cleaning fee you may have paid. Once the property has been inspected and we were happy with how it was found then the bond will be refunded after your departure date. If anything needs to be deducted from your bond we will let you know accordingly.

Please note that the spa bath is not working and will be used only as a bath.

Small cottage with separate living area, single bed acts as a couch. Main bedroom with the most comfortable bed ever. A divider separates the shower from the bedroom. Rural outlook (our house is below) and only a short walk to a nearby beach (as seen in photos), great for snorkeling or fishing. Perfect spot for the dive or surf enthusiast with arguably some of the best dive/surf spots in New Zealand. Steps to the cottage (not suitable for those with mobility issues) This place will help you reconnect with nature - the night sky is amazing. TV and WIFI, no washing machine. Sheets and towels provided. Good dogs are welcome. (on street parking, no fences so dogs aren't able to be left)

- "Property was exactly as we had expected. It was quaint and comfy and we already knew that it was going to be compact with basic shower facilities (which were perfectly adequate). There were several lovely touches which included a jug of milk in the fridge, a pack of coffee to use in the plunger, a hot water bottle and really nice mugs! Great non-stick pans and a seriously good potato peeler - sometimes its the little things which make the difference. The bed was super comfy and dining out on the deck surrounded by the green hillside was fabulous. All in all, a lovely stay."

While the driveway is flat and just along from the beach the house itself is at the top of a steep lawn, but the views are well worth the effort! The living area is upstairs and flows onto decks on either side so you can choose between sun and shade; beach and private bush views.

Cooking essentials are provided in the pantry. Depending on the season you may also enjoy some of the organic fruit and vegetables growing in our garden. Please take only what you will enjoy during your stay and be sure to leave plenty for future guests.
For access to magnificent Poor Knights Island and some of Northland's best fishing spots the closest public boat ramp to the harbour mouth is just 50m away. No queues & no fees. Free parking for your boat by arrangement.
The unit is part of a duplex with another holiday unit next door. Please ask any visitors to park on the grass reserve which is just a few metres from the end of the drive. An additional mattress & bedding is available for an extra person.
A BBQ is provided on the back deck (shared with the other unit).

Tutukaka Time is your time to enjoy this beautiful environment and do what you want to do, which probably isn't reading a manual! Once you've settled in here are some pointers to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

During your stay you are welcome to sample the seasonal organic fruits and vegetables in the gardens. You will have passed by the main vegetable garden and through the orchard on the way up the lawn. At the back of the house is a raised bed with herbs and some more veggies. The orchard includes peaches & nectarines (Jan), black grapes (Feb), royal gala apples (Mar), braeburn apples, pears, guavas & fejoias (Apr), and varieties of mandarins, oranges, lemons & limes through winter. Its our privilege to share this nature's bounty with you, so please take what you will enjoy during your stay and be sure to leave plenty for future guests. The only fertilisers used are compost, seaweed from the beach and manure from our ponies so please be sure to wash before eating - there's no chlorine rinse or cellophane wrap here! You can help nourish our gardens by putting food scraps into the compost bin on the kitchen bench and emptying into the compost heap near the bottom of the lawn (no animal products please).

We believe the secret to a great coffee is pure rain water and good fresh beans so please enjoy our locally roasted ethically sourced organic beans from Tutukaka Roast. The espresso machine is very simple to use. First fill the water tank and turn the machine on by pressing the button on the right and side of the base. If necessary add beens to the grinder hopper and set grind time (8 seconds which is good for a double shot). Ensure the metal filter is in the brew handle and push it into the holder on the grinder to activate the fill sensor. If you want to stop the autofill push the handle against the sensor again. Compact the ground beans and insert the brew handle into the coffee machine to the left then turn to the right to secure. (If it won't turn to the right it may be that you have overfilled the filter.) By now the lights on the machine should have stopped flashing indicating it is ready to brew. Place cup underneath and elect either single or double shot from the front panel. brewing will commence automatically. Once the lights have stopped flashing you can use the steamer by pushing the button on the right hand side of the front panel. Once this has stopped flashing insert steam nozzle into milk jug and turn the chrome lever on the right downwards. If you want extra froth pull the stem nozzle out gently (capuccino setting) for a few seconds.. Return chrome lever to original position once you can feel the jug is hot.

If you're not a coffee drinker please help yourself to a range of teas & beverages in the pantry.

To operate the TV switch it on along with the freeview box using seperate remotes. A Chromecast device is attached to the TV for streaming. To operate change the HDMI setting using the remote.

All of the water you use in the house has come directly from the sky. Tutukaka enjoys a microclimate of warmer temperatures and lower rainfall. During Summer this can lead to serious water shortages. Please be mindful of the need to conserve water during this time. You can help out be washing dishes in the sink instead of the dishwasher and keeping showers to a minimum (swims are much more fun). Fortunately the water supplying are gardens are sourced from an underground bore, though this water is high in iron and manganese and not drinkable.

Please put recyclable waste in the recycling bins outside - blue bin glass only, brown bin tins & plastics, paper & cardboard can be bundled next to the bins. Collection is Monday mornings so if you are staying Sunday night please put the recycling bins out on the kerbside at the end of the drive. Rubbish is also collected Monday morning. If you have sufficient rubbish you can put it all into a blue council rubbish bag provided and leave it also on the kerbside for collection. The bags are kept on the top shelf in the cupboard with the sliding doors upstairs.

All good things come to an end so when its time to leave please pull back the used bedding, and leave any used towels on the floor or in the bathroom hamper. Any remaining rubbish can be left in the bins provided as we will be in to clean soon after your departure. Switch off all appliances (including the hot water cylinder in the tall cupboard upstairs), close windows, lock all doors and remember to return the key to the lock box.

The cantilever umbrella on the deck is selected to give maximum shade in the hot summer, but will not withstand strong winds if the umbrella is left open. Please ensure it is brought back down if wind picks up or if you are leaving the house. Thank you!

Water is a precious resource in Northland. Please use conservatively.
If you run out of water during your stay, there may be delays in delivering additional water to the property. If it is found that excessive water use has led to the purchase or delivery of additional water, additional service fees may apply.

Please ensure you have for rubbish and recycling to be removed, dishes cleaned and put away and that if there is a bbq, that it was left clean, as these items are not included in any cleaning fee you may have paid. Once the property has been inspected and we were happy with how it was found then any bond held will be refunded after your departure date. If anything needs to be deducted from your bond we will let you know accordingly.

We didn't hear from her until I followed up again 4 days later. The washing machine was half full of dirty water and didn't work. The BBQ was really dirty and hadn't been cleaned for a long time. The incinerator didn't work ( in the kitchen which we knew about, we were asked not to use it) however the sink didn't drain even with water, we were constantly trying to get it to drain. The pillows were really old and thin some were missing pillow cases . Sadly there was no extra bedding. We used a mattress protector that we found for extra warmth. It was a bit of a shame as we booked to for a wee family get together post covid with family out from London. It is however a great house and will be a great bookabach accomodation if a few things are corrected."

The property even has a hot/cold outdoor shower, perfect for washing off after a trip to the beach.

There is another dwelling on site that will be occupied during your stay.Please note the occupants of the dwelling have a small friendly fox terrier that may roam the property during your stay. As the deck does not have a barrier and there is small drop on to grass, all guests should take care when using this area due to the risk of falls.There are life-jackets available to use with the two kayaks but we do recommend that guests bring their own well-fitting life-jackets to ensure safety. The spa facilities are shared- guests are welcome to use them, but please let the owners know on arrival.Please note a bond may be charged at certain times of the year. One of our team members will contact you if this is required for your booking.

This home offers essential comforts including air conditioning, Wifi, fully equipped kitchen with espresso machine.

Room for the whole family, the house has two lounges, games, tv and ample space for everyone to have time apart while they holiday together.

The private garden patio with covered outdoor living area and weber bbq so you can enjoy outdoor dining in all conditions with style and comfort. Secure and fenced for little ones to play. While the sloped and sprawling yard at the back gives older explorers space and open bush to venture out.

Private balconies overlooking the lushes native bush of the coast provide relaxing scenery to enjoy a quiet moment with a morning coffee or a late afternoon glass of wine.

The entire home , gardens, parking and lawn are reserved for the guests private use.

We are close by to assist however you need us, but access is contactless and we leave our guests to their privacy.

We have compulsory linen hire and cleaning with all stays to ensure our properties consistently meet the highest level of cleaning and comfort.

A service fee for this is included which means you dont need to worry about all the details.
Rubbish removal is not included in our cleaning fee, though a rubbish collection service is available by contacting us prior to your departure.

Our idyllic and secluded vineyard property perches on steep terracing above rocky Waiparore Cove, facing north across native bush and ocean out to the world-renowned Poor Knights Islands.

Enjoy the stunning views from your own luxurious self-catering apartment. Attached to the main house, the Apartment has two equal-status Super King bedrooms each with an ensuite bathroom, and a fully-equipped kitchen and Sky TV.

Our property runs down through pasture and native bush to the rocky edge of the ocean, and is yours to roam and explore. Perhaps take a walk amongst the vines and olive trees, take a pic of the alpacas, have a swim in either Waiparore Cove or our indoor pool, or enjoy a wine tasting in the Cellar Door.

Tutukaka Marina, shops and restaurants are just a 5 minute drive down the road, while the golden horseshoe of Matapouri Bay is 5 minutes in the other direction.

We welcome our guests with a complimentary bottle of wine or olive oil.
