- "This property is lovely, from the home to the setting, from the sassy pony and goats to the incredible hosts Chris and Carol. Pictures simply don't do it justice, nor do all the rave reviews. It's simply perfect. The home is beautiful, and the second you walk in, you feel at home, not like a guest trespassing in someone else's house. Sitting on the porch and looking across the channel was such a pleasure that it made it hard to leave to go explore other parts of the island! As the sun sets and the stars come out, you feel like you can see every star in the sky all at once. And in the morning, after a quick rain shower, beautiful rainbows come out, and I swear the animals know this and pose under them so you can take a picture! I can't stress enough how kind, lovely and welcoming the hosts are; in fact, they are one of the best parts of staying here! Kohala Lodge is a place you want to rate as the best of the best and shout how awesome it is from the rooftops, but you also don't want to leave a review for because you want it to remain your special secret! My highest praise is that I would come back here again and again, and each time I wouldn't want to leave. Hawi Haven! Come away for a time of rest and rejuvenation at our lovingly restored authentic Hawaiian cottage. This is Hawaii, and there are friendly geckos but few insects and no noisy coqui frogs.

How close to the beaches, swimming, and snorkeling?
We are just 15 minutes from Mahukona Beach Park, offering fantastic snorkeling and swimming, but no sand. Sandy beaches are just 30 minutes away.

What is the climate like?
We are upcountry, so the climate is delightful and cooler than the hot coast.

Do we need to rent a car?
Yes. We can offer suggestions on car rental options.

Best place to buy groceries?
Takata Grocery and Kohala Grown in Hawi town offer some good food options. If you stay awhile, it is recommended to stop at Costo, Island Natural Foods, or other large grocery stores in Kona before you head to rural Hawi.

What about Farmer's Markets?
There is a Saturday Farmers Market in Hawi and two other great farmers' markets in Waimea. There is also a Wednesday Farmers Market in Waimea.

Directions from the Kona Airport to Always In Season Farmstead

The travel distance from Kona International Airport to Hawi and Hawi is approximately 50 miles and takes about an hour. Travel North on Highway 19 to the Kawaihae junction, about ½ hour. Turn left towards the harbor and take highway 270 North to Hawi about 17 miles. Once you reach Hawi Town, you will make your first right at the Gas Station that is Hawi Hill. Drive to the top of the hill around 2 miles, turn right at the top of the hill, Kohala Mountain RD, go for about 3 city blocks and make your first right, Puu Mamo, go about 1.5 miles and Puu Mamo dead ends and the name changes to Kamalei Place, you can only turn left so take it, go up the hill and take your second left and that is our driveway… Land Mark- you will see a yellow fire hydrant on your left, and our driveway is the next left.

Body boards, beach chairs, and snorkeling gear are in the closet. Covered parking helps to keep your car from getting too hot.
The cottage is located in a pastoral setting of 3.5 acres with a magnificent banyan tree. So come throw a frisbee or fly a kite. Our main goal at Kokoiki Cottage is to provide you with a great livable space and support your vacation needs. Hawi town is only 2 miles away for you to enjoy restaurants, coffee shops, delis, galleries, and one of the best small-town supermarkets where you can find island grass-fed beef, fresh fish, and local produce. Shop for lilikois, papayas, bananas, coconuts, lychee, mangoes, pineapples, and more at Local Farmer’s Markets. The Volcano National Park is a 2.5-hour drive away. The Kona airport is just about 45 minutes away, though you may never want to leave this Big Island paradise.

This is a newly renovated Ohana guest house that is walking distance to the art galleries and coffee shop in Hawi. We have beach equipment that you are welcome to borrow as well as anything else we can do to help you have an enjoyable stay.
The space
The spacious 2 bedroom 1 bath has beautiful tile floors and marble tops in the kitchen. The interior was recently repainted inside and furniture updated with high end queen and king mattress as well as a new sofa and chairs. Sofa has a pull out bed and there is a single mattress day bed in bedroom with the queen bed. High speed internet is included with a nice desk for work or play. We maintain the highest internet speeds provided by our local provider and we have an internet specialist that lives on property that keeps things running quickly for those video and zoom calls that have become more a part of our lives now since Covid. We have a flat screen smart tv in the living room for streaming your favorite shows. Home is completely surrounded by tall hedges and trees for a private tropical and peaceful stay. Enjoy fresh coconut, papaya, and other fruit when in season. We are located walking distance to Hawi town which was recently voted "Most Charming Small Town in all the Hawaiin Islands". We are walking distance to the art galleries, farmers market, coffee shop, and restaurants of our charming little town.
Other things to note
We strive to keep our nightly rates low. Our property is located at an elevation of roughly 600ft. Most guest find that they do not need ac. The nights and mornings are typically in the high 60s and low 70s. Due to the high cost of power at 37 cents per KW in Hawaii, electricity is obviously a factor we have to be conscious of. Since most guest don't use the ac, we discount that from our nightly rate and the price you see listed now reflects that discount. If you decide you would like to use the AC there is a small fee of 15 dollars a day to cover the additional cost of the electrical usage. You are welcome to let us know after your arrival and decide at that point if you think you need it our not. We live in the main house next door and we do not have ac but we do have occasional guest that prefer the option.

We also have a 2014 VW Jetta, 4 door, leather, and loaded for rent. Our daily rate is 100 a day and possibly no other fees depending on payment method. We only rent to our guests to help out when rates are crazy high or there is no availability. If you are getting quotes for 150 to 300 a day as it is at times check with us and we will see if we can help save you some money. If you find that their rates are under 100 a day you will be better off going with the airport major brands for convenience sake.
