It's simply perfect. The home is beautiful, and the second you walk in, you feel at home, not like a guest trespassing in someone else's house. Sitting on the porch and looking across the channel was such a pleasure that it made it hard to leave to go explore other parts of the island! As the sun sets and the stars come out, you feel like you can see every star in the sky all at once. I can't stress enough how kind, lovely and welcoming the hosts are; in fact, they are one of the best parts of staying here! This is Hawaii, and there are friendly geckos but few insects and no noisy coqui frogs.

How close to the beaches, swimming, and snorkeling?
We are just 15 minutes from Mahukona Beach Park, offering fantastic snorkeling and swimming, but no sand. Sandy beaches are just 30 minutes away.

What is the climate like?
We are upcountry, so the climate is delightful and cooler than the hot coast.

Do we need to rent a car?
Yes. We can offer suggestions on car rental options.

Best place to buy groceries?
Takata Grocery and Kohala Grown in Hawi town offer some good food options. If you stay awhile, it is recommended to stop at Costo, Island Natural Foods, or other large grocery stores in Kona before you head to rural Hawi.

What about Farmer's Markets?
There is a Saturday Farmers Market in Hawi and two other great farmers' markets in Waimea. There is also a Wednesday Farmers Market in Waimea.

Directions from the Kona Airport to Always In Season Farmstead

The travel distance from Kona International Airport to Hawi and Hawi is approximately 50 miles and takes about an hour. Travel North on Highway 19 to the Kawaihae junction, about ½ hour. Turn left towards the harbor and take highway 270 North to Hawi about 17 miles. Once you reach Hawi Town, you will make your first right at the Gas Station that is Hawi Hill. Drive to the top of the hill around 2 miles, turn right at the top of the hill, Kohala Mountain RD, go for about 3 city blocks and make your first right, Puu Mamo, go about 1.5 miles and Puu Mamo dead ends and the name changes to Kamalei Place, you can only turn left so take it, go up the hill and take your second left and that is our driveway… Land Mark- you will see a yellow fire hydrant on your left, and our driveway is the next left.

The property is located along a gulch, featuring beautiful tree canopy and many different fruit trees including mango, papaya and avocado.

We live on the property, this is our ohana. There is a large garden between both houses to provide natural privacy (see photos)

The cottage is comfortable and well-equipped, and the swing and hammock were really popular with my granddaughter. The lush farm grounds, the ocean view, and the beautiful natural pool provide a tranquil setting for a longish stay, while still being close enough to Hawi township for grocery and crafts shopping and great espresso coffee.
