Our Ocean Front condo has been remodeled in an island-style with an asian touch. Enjoy Maui sand and surf just steps from the front of our complex. The steps to the beach have been washed away with high surf (10/30/19), so it is best to walk to the park about a block away to walk on the beach. The condo associatation is working to replace the steps. The Kanai A Nalu resort is centrally located on the southwest side of Maui at the beginning of a pristine beach that runs for 3.5 miles (or more) uninterrupted to the north end of Kihei. Our 3rd floor corner unit is a prime location on the quiet side of the complex (one of only 4 such units). It offers spectacular panoramic views of Haleakala (volcano), Molokini, other islands, and the south shore of Maui (from North Kihei to Wailea and beyond). You can fall asleep to the sound of gentle surf and wake to a glorious Maui sun rising over the 10,000 foot Haleakala volcano. From our private lanai enjoy breakfast, lunch and/or dinner while watching the ocean surf, whales, turtles and surfers during the given season. We often opt to dine in on our lanai because this wonderful setting is seldom matched when dining out.

The master bedroom (furnished in island-style) and bath are private with ocean views from two sides, and includes a wall mounted flat screen TV. The 2nd bedroom (furnished in island-style) and bath can be closed for privacy with a unique sliding door. The lanai is furnished to seat four for dining. The kitchen is equipped with range, refrigerator/freezer (with ice-maker), dishwasher, washer/dryer, and microwave. The dining area offers a dining table which is set to seat 4, but can be expanded to seat 8 or 10. The living area is furnished in an island-style with an oriental touch and includes a 42' HDTV and a HD BlueRay Player plus a supply of movies for your enjoyment. Our kitchen has a plentiful supply of dinner ware and cooking utensils and appliances.

AC will only work set at 72 degrees NOT lower. Use the timer located on the mirror wall to operate it.The wind usually blows so we open the windows and doors to enjoy the tropics and never turn on the AC.

- "The condo was well located, close to the airport, the nice beaches and good eats. The condo was clean and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well-equipped and I have never seen a condo with so many towels. The lanai was the highlight. We enjoyed eating breakfast, lunch and dinner at the lanai, contempling the incredible view with the sound of the waves. Unfortunately, we had to cut short our trip due to the fires in Lahaina. The condo was not in the affected area but we didn’t want to take any risk. When the fires in Lahaina happened, Pam wrote to us to check if we were all ok. I informed Pam that we decided to leave the condo one day earlier, she replied to us very quickly to let us know that she will reimburse us for the unused day. It was very nice of her to be so considerate. I read on Facebook that many travelers were unable to get a refund for their cancelled accomodation. It never crossed my mind to ask for a refund but Pam had volunteered in doing so. That was a very nice gesture. We greatly appreciated. I would definitely recommend this condo to anyone looking for a comfortable, clean and quiet place to stay and close to everywhere. There are several restaurants at the harbor. We enjoyed the General Store for lunch. Tantes had a nice lunch and dinner menu, but if you want to explore further for meals, Kihei has many choices and is fairly close by. This condo was spotless, and provided everything we needed. If we return to Maui, this will be our spot."

The Space
Our cottage was built in 2012 and we welcomed our first guests in 2013. It has all appliances , comfy Serta bed, all-cotton bedding, pillows, towels, etc. Sliding mirrored doors separate the bedroom from main room. The cottage sits across from the beach below our upscale neighborhood and your only neighbor is a doctor on one side and us up the hill behind in the home we bought in 1999. 420 friendly.

Air-conditioning, washer and dryer, Netflix and YouTubeTV! And we have an AED in the main house, a Christmas gift from our son!

Cottage is stocked with coffee, tea and condiments, fruits and bagels or pastries and butter in the freezer to get you started on breakfast. Snorkel gear, beach chairs, coolers, etc. in a storage bin on your deck and we can give you tips on good things to do and things to avoid.

Separate bedroom and bathroom has 2 doors so there is privacy if one person wants to sleep and the other stay up or get up. Plenty of room for two or for a family with a child who can sleep in a crib (available to rent from No Ka Oi Baby Rentals) or on the couch.

The area we are in is called 'Central Maui' because you can easily drive to everywhere else. Yet our particular location feels more like country with open beach and ocean in front and to the north. Be aware that there is no commercial business within walking distance but the beach and a golf course are there for pleasure walking!

Anywhere on the property. It is yours for the duration of your stay. My husband and son surf and with permission, cut through the yard to access the surf across the street.

At the discretion of our guests. Some have become best friends; some we've never met.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is upscale, our neighbors really friendly owners. The beach is right across the road in front of the cottage and when the surf is big, it's great to watch the surfers there. When there's no surf, the beach is empty. We love it both ways! It's not a swimming beach but those are a short drive away and by staying here, one avoids the touristy, hot, dusty surroundings of the beach cities

Getting around

We have a bus system and Jordan and I can drop guests off on our way places but a car really is recommended as only tour buses go up into the valleys and up to the top of Haleakala.

Other Things to Note

We stayed in a B & B years ago in Switzerland and the women treated us like family and it had such a positive impact on us that we try to do the same and make our guests feel at home. On the other hand, you may want to just do your own thing and that's perfectly fine, too.

Kanai A Nalu (“Gentle Breeze”) is located in Maalaea; a place often called “Maui’s best kept secret”. Our condo is direct OCEANFRONT, BEACHFRONT! You simply cannot get any closer to the ocean than our beautifully upgraded, ground floor unit!

From the lanai, gaze out and watch the sun rise over Haleakala (House of the Sun), the long dormant 10,000 foot volcano. Watch green sea turtles bobbing up for air and rolling in the surf, even sunning themselves on the beach. In the winter months (Nov-April) you will have a front row seat to breaching whales as they come back to the islands to give birth and nurse their young in the warm Hawaiian waters. In the summer months during a good south swell, you can watch surfers on the legendary surf break “Freight Trains”, one of the world’s fastest surfable waves.

Brew yourself a cup of freshly ground Kona coffee and make up a plate of local papaya, mango and bananas and sit out on the lanai with the Pacific Ocean just steps away. Why settle for less when you’ve come all this way to experience paradise?

You may find that a week (or even a month) is not enough time to fully appreciate this place. We welcome long-term renters, retirees and snowbirds to come and stay awhile!
Kids are welcome too: we provide the playpen, highchair and beach toys. They’ll love swimming in the complex pool and picking bananas from the tree right beside the lanai!

Be one of the first to enjoy our recently remodeled ground floor 2 bed, 2 bath condo. Travertine floors throughout, new granite countertops and all new furnishings. Details are important to us, that is why we transported unique lighting fixtures thousands of miles in our suitcases and made custom accent bedding and pillows for the bedrooms. We’ve installed some great perks like electric blinds, plantation shutters and a wine cooler. Even the things that may not be noticeable like quality fixtures, nice doors and a good quiet garbage disposal all work together to create a luxurious feeling.
On top of that we filled the space with original local art from Maui artisans. In the living room, we have showcased the beautiful fine art photography of Christopher Eagan (Lahaina). In the kitchen we had 2 large custom tile mosaics crafted by Makena Tile. In the master bath, a floor to ceiling bamboo design in etched tile by Janie Aldrige.

The Master Suite is truly a oceanfront retreat, with a King sized platform bed, flat screen TV and decadent white bedding with custom accent pillows. The Master bath is luxurious with a huge walk-in shower and double vanities with wall to wall mirrors reflecting all the beautiful surroundings and ocean views.
Before bed, take one last look at the moonlight shimmering on the Pacific and fall asleep listening to the rhythmic sound of the surf.
The guest bedroom has 2 Tommy Bahama styled twin beds with gel foam mattress toppers, clean crisp white bedding and custom made accent linens made from vintage Alfred Shaheen (the man behind the iconic Hawaiian Shirts) fabrics. The bedroom also has a small flat screen TV with cable and a cooling ceiling fan.

The kitchen of our condo is well equipped for those who want to cook and Kanai A Nalu has a BBQ area near the heated pool located in the center of the complex.

Maalaea’s trade winds provide a cooling breeze that keeps the temperatures just right, although we have a timer controlled A/C in the living room just in case.

We provide the beach toys, snorkel sets, boogie boards, skim board, sand toys & beach chairs...so grab some toys and explore your eco-diverse surroundings. Amazing boogie boarding, paddle boarding and snorkeling right in front of our unit!
20 steps off the lanai, and your toes are in the sand of one of Maui’s longest beaches. 4 miles of secluded sand to walk, run and beachcomb. You won’t find any crowds though because access to the beach is protected from the road by the bird-filled-ponds of Kealia Wildlife Refuge. It is so amazing to walk this beach and literally feel like you have it all to yourself!

A 5 minute walk in the opposite direction takes you to Maalaea Harbor where you will find a small grocery store, deli, craft market, restaurants and the Maui Ocean Center (Maui’s #1 tourist attraction), the Pacific Whale Foundation, miniature golf, shopping and most of the ocean activities available on Maui (sunset dinner cruises, deep sea fishing, snorkeling tours & whale watching).
Centrally located Maalaea, makes getting anywhere on the island easy. 15 minutes from the airport, a 5 minute drive south and you are in the long village of Kihei and a bit further, the ritzy resorts of Wailea. Twenty minutes to the west is the old whaling village of Lahaina, with it’s magnificent Banyan Tree and shopping galleries. You couldn’t be in a better location to explore all Maui has to offer.

There is a sweet little beach park just a five minute walk down the road. The Island Sands complex offers a pool as well!
Located off the the hwy, on a relatively remote beach where you will see almost no one else.
There is no more sugar cane on Maui so any write ups you may have seen about the inconvenience from burning sugar cane no longer happens!!
The view includes: watching the sunrise —or moonrise!—over Haleakala, gazing out to Molokini Crater, watching the sunset off of Kahoolawe, boats coming to and from the harbor, surfers at "Freight Train" surf site, Humpback whales from Dec. through April, Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles all year long! We live about 30 minutes away and are happy to greet you in person if need be, however, we are all set up for self-check in so you can get in easily. Maui is best accessed by rental car as it gives you the most freedom to explore. however, there is a bus service that goes to Ma'alaea harbor. You can walk to shops, restaurants, great beach walks, boats, live music....all within minutes once you have arrived.
If you want to split up your Maui experience between the ocean and the forest/lush upcountry experience, we have a charming cottage (Gingerbread House) upcountry in Makawao, as well.

The location is 15-20 minutes from the busier towns and nightlife, but we were always excited to get back to our quiet corner of the island. - "The property is amazing-located on a dead end with several other condos. The pool seems small at first, but there were multiple days when we had the pool to ourselves, and on days we didn’t there may have been 3-4 others at the pool. It’s very quiet, which was a huge plus for us. After exploring the island and being in crowds, it was nice to come back to a quiet and relaxing area. Speaking of the area- don’t let this quiet little secluded spot fool you. There is a harbor, Maui Ocean Center, Maalaea Harbor Shops, a General Store that serves breakfast/lunch and has great smoothies, and at least 3 restaurants- all within a very short walking distance. On the other end of the road there’s a park with a beach that is also a short walking distance. I walked to both daily- the shops sometimes 2-3 times a day. You can even walk the grass to the shops which makes it even quicker (great for bringing back Shave ice and fresh cookies from Hula Cookies). The unit is perfect! We saw sea turtles daily and a few eels. The waves were very rough, but we enjoyed watching the experts snorkeling and fishing. You can walk to the rocks below and view turtles closer in the water, or just view from the room. You can hear the waves and the winds and it’s very relaxing. The owner thought of everything, and we had no issues or concerns. It’s a great condo-centrally located so exploring the island was easy. This is a very safe area and we wouldn’t hesitate to rent again. Thank you!"

This lovely unit is situated on famous “Sugar Beach”, a beautiful and quiet white sands beach that stretches for miles—all the way to Kihei. From the lanai, enjoy the sound of the surf, as well as 180-degree spectacular, breathtaking views of Maui’s south coast. You can also enjoy views from the kitchen and second bedroom of the mountains. In the morning, watch the sunrise dancing off the peak on Haleakala, one of Hawaii's oldest volcanoes. Each winter you can witness the seasonal migration patterns of the humpback whales from the lanai.

My 7 year old daughter met kids every day. The barbecue by the pool was also great. The condo really needed nothing more. It was extremely well organized with labels for everything in all the closets and cabinets. Since there were 5 of us, we did need an additional bed. There was a queen size blow-up mattress (with linens) that we set up in the living room at night. The air conditioning unit cooled off the living room/kitchen area nicely and there were fans in all the rooms. However, the smaller bedroom was very warm and my son had a hard time sleeping. Our condo and area was NOT affected by the fires on the West side of Maui. We never had any damage or fire or smoke. Our harbor is open, the rest of Maui is open.

This condo has everything....and more.... you need for your stay in Maui. The bedroom features a king size bed. Tile shower, granite kitchen countertops, new pull out couch mattress and the best a new split a/c system with a separate unit right in the bedroom!

Ocean! Ocean! Ocean! Nothing stands between you and the big blue Pacific! Turtles a plenty at the waters edge...and you don't need to go any further than your lanai to see and enjoy! Our one bedroom, one bath condominium sleeps 4 pretty comfortably with one king size bed and a pullout couch. Located on the fourth floor, this unit affords awesome ocean front and mountain views that you cannot get in many other locations. Delight in watching the whales as they frolic in the ocean right in front of the condo!! Whale season is from November - May, a great time to be in Ma'alaea!

There's a/c in every room....including the bedroom and on continuous hot water system so no shower needs to wait for water warm up.

Kana‘i A Nalu means 'gentle surf, but we call it 'Dad's Paradise.' Kana‘i A Nalu is a beautiful OCEANFRONT complex located near the four-mile stretch of Sugar Beach on Ma‘alaea Bay. Our condo is located on the second floor with gorgeous views from the lanai of the tropical gardens, the pool, the ocean, and the sunrise over Haleakala, the 'House of the Sun,' Maui’s largest dormant volcano. During the winter months, when the humpback whales are in the bay, the lanai may become your full-time residence.

The central tropical garden area has a solar-heated pool, large grassy area, and two grills for all to enjoy! In the late afternoon, the barbecue area is the place to be!

Kana‘i A Nalu appeals to those who don't want to have to walk through a congested lobby or across a busy street to get to the pool or beach. Our guests can easily go from our condo to the beach and back in a few minutes.

Our condo is fully equipped with kitchenware, linens, a dishwasher and a washer/dryer. We also have a nice collection of beach towels, used snorkeling gear, sand toys and boogie boards for you to use on the beach.

The master bedroom has a king-size bed with a connecting bathroom, while the second bedroom has twin beds and a full bathroom in the adjacent hall.
We have made some lovely improvements to the condo in recent years, with tile floors in the main living areas and kitchen, granite countertops in the kitchen and both bathrooms, and with HD TVs in the living/dining area and the master bedroom. We love the relaxed tropical style on island, and that style is reflected in our condo.

When the weather is blistering hot on other parts of the island, Ma‘alaea Bay’s consistent breezes keep the air comfortable at our complex. Inside the condo, each room has a ceiling fan to provide comfort, including the bathrooms. Quiet Mitsubishi Air Conditioners are in the living room and both bedrooms.

Directly across the bay is the town of Kihei; towering above it is Haleakala, elev. 10,023. Sunrises over its summit can be seen from the lanai, and they are stunning!

Our condo is centrally located on the island. We are just down the street from the Maui Ocean Center, Maalaea Harbor, and the Mini-golf/rock climbing center. It is also approximately 9 miles from the Kahului Airport.
