The only trouble I had was my shower was a little temper-mental (going hot and then cold) but I presumed it was to do with someone else having a shower at the same time maybe, it didn’t effect my stay and I’m sure it was just something very minor, but wanted to mention so it was sorted for future. West End Cottage is a traditional flint fisherman’s cottage in Sheringham, having been built in the 1870s and extended in the 1960s, and is a short stroll from the town’s original fishing slopes. This end-terraced property was built originally for one of the oldest fishing families in the area. Constructed from the flint found in abundance on the shores, this must have been a substantial and comfortable home for the times, for what was an up and coming fish merchant and his extended family.

There are colourful rumours about how West End Cottage was linked to smuggling, but rest assured that all is now above board and sitting pretty, ready for a great holiday. You will find yourself so close to the sea that quite literally at the end of the street upon which West End Cottage is situated, there is the old lifeboat the Henry Ramey Upcher. In fact, you are just a few steps from both Sheringham’s glorious beach (a section of which is lifeguard supervised in high season) and its pretty town centre. This fabulous house is nearly 2000 SQFT comprising of a large kitchen diner, spacious lounge, and conservatory. There are 4 double bedrooms, hall with sea views. A large garden complete with BBQ makes it perfect for entertaining. Private off road parking for 6 cars max.

A 6 minute walk into the town of Sheringham with it's array of shops & restaurants leading to the beach.

The space

A lovely spacious house spread over 3 floors, with enough room to comfortably entertain up to 8 guests. Perfect for birthdays and family celebrations.

There is a brand new, well equipped integrated kitchen with a fridge/freezer, double electric oven, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher. All bedrooms have charging stations for mobile phones and there is Alexa smart technology throughout the house. The triple aspect lounge is spacious and comfortable, with a 4 seater and 3 seater sofa, and a 50 inch smart TV. This leads to a cosy conservatory which seats 2 people and overlooks the enclosed rear garden.

Bedroom 1 on the 1st floor, is dual aspect with views of the sea. It has an en-suite bathroom with an electric shower and a double sized shower tray.

Bedroom 2 also the first floor is triple aspect and has a king size bed and wardrobe, but is big enough to also provide a dedicated workspace. Guests will have access to an office workstation consisting of an office desk, monitor, and printer. There is an ethernet cable for a stronger WIFI signal.

Bedroom 3 on the top floor (right) is a large dual aspect room with fabulous views across Sheringham and out to sea. It has a king sized bed and ample wardrobe space.

Bedroom 4, top floor (left) can be used as a 2nd TV lounge or a games room. It has a comfortable double sofa bed. Inside the wardrobe is a large smart TV and games cupboard / wardrobe containing a games console and other board games. There are splendid views out to sea, across Sheringham, and the famous 'Beeston Bump'

There are 2 travel cots and 2 high chairs available for guests use. Large cot sized bedding is needed and is not supplied.

The garden has recently been landscaped and has two separate areas to socialise. The decking area has a dining table that can seat up to 12 people, meanwhile at the other end of the garden you can relax under the shielded pergola which has a coffee style table with 6 comfortable chairs. Guests can also use the barbecue and there is a selection of buckets, spades and crab fishing equipment which the children can use.

Other things to note - In order to comply with Host insurance and fire regulations make it a condition of the booking that lead guest provides the names and DOB’s of all guests to the host at least 7 days before the stay commences.
We are dog friendly and allow a maximum of 2 medium sized well behaved dogs. We do charge an additional £40 paid direct to the owner before the stay commences. This is to cover extra cleaning to eliminate pet dander which can cause allergies in some people. North Norfolk is very dog friendly and most shops, pubs and restaurants accept dogs. Please do not leave your dog alone at the house and avoid allowing dogs on the furniture please. The house sleeps 8 but we will accept 2 extra small infants who can sleep in the 2 travel cots we provide. You must bring your own cot bedding which are the larger sheets. Fresh bedding and towel changes are provided for stays of up to 7 nights free of charge. For longer stays changes of bedding incur an extra charge.

There is a guest manual which explains everything about the house including important information about fire safety. It includes useful tips and recommendations about the area including places to visit, restaurants, menus for takeaways etc. This can be found in the TV unit in the downstairs lounge.

The area

Sheringham is a wonderful seaside town with an abundance of shops, bars and restaurant. It is home to the famous North Norfolk steam railway which runs along the coast to Weybourne and Holt and back everyday. Nearby are several high quality golf course with Sheringham golf course only 0.7 miles from the house and Royal Cromer Golf Course just 6 miles away. If you love walking your are spoilt for choice with several walks to beauty spots nearby, these include Beeston Bump, with spectacular view of the town and out to sea. For the adventurous you can walk from the house, over the bump and make it to Cromer for lunch (5 miles) If fit enough you can walk back :-) or get the bus or train from Cromer.

There is also Sheringham park which is free access if entering by foot or a small fee for parking. This can be accessed from the house and takes about 30mins on foot

The comfy reclining lay Z boy sofas are lovely to snuggle down in. Our downstairs twin bedroom is off the main living area. Upstairs, via the open tread spiral staircase there is a spacious double bedroom with Juliette balcony overlooking the garden. Outside, you will find the fully paved enclosed garden, which has a table and chairs for four people, as well as a loveseat which is the perfect place to sit with a glass of wine after a day out exploring the local area.

Seal Pup has lots of little touches - its own range of crockery is lovely to find in the cupboard! The shed is stacked with beach equipment, body boards, buckets, and spades - also a trolley to take it all to the beach. Dogs are welcome in the property - there is a comfy dog bed provided and a large crate can be found under one of the single beds.

The picturesque old fishing village of Sheringham and makes a fantastic base for a coastal break. Close by are good restaurants, shops, pubs, tea rooms and craft shops, as well as the Splash swimming pool, two museums and the North Norfolk Steam Railway, known as the ‘Poppy Line’. Sheringham has a busy list of activities throughout the year with a Viking Festival, 1940’s weekend, Vintage 60’s festival and fantastic Carnival week.

Sheringham Park and Felbrigg Hall both nearby National Trust properties are a must for dog walkers, nature lovers and ramblers, and during late Spring, they are awash with colour from the rhododendrons.
