Staff was very gracious and helpful about locating the bag and holding it until I could have someone pick it up. The Carriage House Cottage is nestled behind the David Abraham House, one of Silver City's premier historic homes, owned by Jim & Tricia Reynolds. The Carriage House was built around 1917 and was indeed originally a carriage house with attached servants' quarters. Carriage House Cottage was remodeled in 2000 as a retirement cottage and is furnished with may family antiques and memorabilia. Some elements of the original carriage house are still in evidence, both in the interior and on the exterior of the Cottage.

The Cottage is both cozy and functional. Guests feel right at home from the moment they walk into the Cottage. This welcoming vacation rental is in a quiet, restful area of a historic part of Silver City.

One large bedroom has a queen-sized bed and the smaller one has a double bed and an outside entrance. They share a bathroom with a shower. All towels and sheets are furnished. The guest house is situated on twelve acres about three miles from downtown Silver City. Perfect for your stay in our beautiful area whether you want to browse the galleries, shops and museums downtown or hike in the beautiful Gila National Forest about one mile away. The main house on the property also houses my High-Lonesome Bookshop with new and used books about the west, hunting and fishing, natural history, country living and local history.

You must cross through a small creek to get to our property. Please check during the monsoon season (July-September) to see if we recommend a 4-wheel drive vehicle.

The Swan St Cottage is a quaint but cozy lodge style place located exactly in the middle of Silver City. It was our first home for our family of 6 for 10+ years and as our girls continue to grow it is updated and cared for by all of us. It took a while before we noticed one of our daughters was leaving her signature (J) on her work. It can be spotted sporadically throughout the property.

What we love…If you are looking to be in the Gila wilderness you can take a drive in various directions and be there in about 30 minutes. We have a fenced in backyard where behaved dogs are welcome with a fee. We are less than a mile from the track, schools and hospital. Even though traffic can be a little busy on weekdays around 8am and around 3pm you can’t hear it in the house or even in the backyard. We have had the same great neighbors for the last 15 years who watch out for each other. We support Local Artists who display and sell their art in the home. We have keyless entry. Yes we have WiFi. We have smart TV’s that guests can log into any streaming network they subscribe to. There is a full size washer and dryer, fully equipped kitchen. Even towels designated for your out door adventures to the rivers and and lakes. We have a planet marking on the sidewalk by our front yard from the planet walk that many who pass by stop to read the plaque.

What we don’t like… I want to be upfront & clear...the neighborhood doesn’t look glamorous. Houses are close together and Swan Street is one of the busiest streets in town because we are close to the hospital, schools, and track. It is about 1 mile from downtown, however walking along and crossing highway 180 can be stressful. Especially with little ones and pets. There are some places the sidewalk disappears along the way.

If you are looking to be exactly in the center of silver city on a map, then this is the place to be. If you are looking to be in downtown, or in a remote location in the Gila National Forest, we recommend searching for a place closer to your preference.

Located just a three block stroll from the WNMU campus on the Northern edge of town (and next to our other vacation rental: Casa # 477174) roomy, light filled one bedroom, one bathroom vacation home feels like a 'sky house' and was the inspiration for the Spanish name 'Casa Cielo'. Perched on a ridge with great views out to the New Mexico high- country, this quiet neighborhood on the edge of town offers the convenience of 'in town' living with the feel of a mountain retreat. Native plantings surround it and a driveway loops up and around it with an off-street parking. Designed by its architect/owner in the mid-fifties, the simple and efficient plan includes a masonry fireplace with a built in convection heater for winter comfort in the generous living room. The large bedroom is provided with ample built-in storage. A well-lit 'galley' type kitchen is flanked by a separate dining room on one side and a large laundry/craft room on the other.

- "I stayed at the Round Mountain retreat for seven weeks while I got to know Silver City and the surrounding area, and by the end of the visit I had decided to move here! The property is adjacent to public lands that you can hike on for anything from a half-mile loop to the top of a hill to see the sunset to a multi-loop hike up into the Gila National Forest that could take a full day. Being able to sit on the deck and watch the sunset in the middle of winter was a real treat. Indoors is cozy with a wood stove and soaking tub that made the winter days more pleasant. Scott and Denise were kind enough to let me stay with my cats, and I brought blankets to put over the lovely leather couches to make sure the kitties didn't damage them. I'd highly recommend their place for folks looking to enjoy a long stay in a lovely setting and a fun little town."

Casa Cobre

Thanksgiving 1 week minimum. Normally a 14 day minimum and rates may not be displayed properly on the calendar unless you specify your dates first. Also, ask about long term rates (60+ days). A truly green adobe house built before green was en vogue. This fully furnished home at 6000' altitude provides magnificent views through 4 gentle seasons. The location is just beyond the south edge of the city limits providing convenient access to all the amenities of the town and the isolation of quiet, country living. With over 300 days of sunshine a year, the natural lighting in this passive solar home creates a bright living space with full southern views.

This 2 bedroom, 2 bath home was remodeled from a home to a fully furnished rental with a unique and vibrant copper (cobre in Spanish) warmth. The master bedroom has a king bed, two comfy chairs and a small desk. It has a huge master closet and an open, connected bathroom. The second extra large bedroom has two queen beds, two comfy chairs, a dresser, and a small desk. The second bathroom is separate from, but adjacent to, the second bedroom. The living room has a very large and comfortable corner sectional, four comfy chairs and a large fireplace. In its basic configuration, the dining room seats 4, although 10 or more folks have used the space with the expandable table. Additionally, the dining area features a bar counter with stools that face the kitchen. The kitchen is extremely well equipped. The entire private home setting includes three outdoor seating areas with views of distant mountain peaks in or near Mexico. Dark skies provide great star viewing.

We have developed a trail system on the family property for enjoyable walks or hikes.

The spatious accommodations were bright, comfortable and modern. The property has been completely renovated with nice touches everywhere and artistic attention to detail. The copper theme was fun to track throughout the rental - with copper art work and light switch plates, clever copper pipe railings and even cool copper plumbing in the utility room. This passive solar and environmentally conscientious home perfectly complemented the scenic vistas outside. The hosts live close by and were very responsive, but we really didn't want for anything. The views from the front patio were spectacular during the day and equally remarkable at night with great southern exposure and dark southern star gazing (Scorpio and the Milky Way are nice). We had great weather (warm, but not hot during the day and cool at night) and went on three separate day hikes in the surrounding Gila mountains, including the Cat Walk and the 1,000 year old Juniper Tree at Fort Bayard. There was also an outdoor Blues Festival in Silver City over the weekend with lots of activity in town. We also ate lunch at a local Mexican Restaurant - delicious! We've stayed at lovely homes in Santa Fe, but this was New Mexico at its best! Can't wait to come back!"
