Warm, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Fell asleep to the sound of the river roaring down beside the lodge. Breakfast was served by efficient, very friendly staff and was delicious. Would definetly recommend and hope to return." - "Friendly staff and were upgraded to room in the Hotel, rather than the cottages. Room was lovely and bathroom luxurious. Dinner and breakfast were served in the conservatory which had a lovely outlook of the gardens and a bird feeder which attracted a lot of birds. Dinner was excellent, Michelin Star material. We walked in gardens which were picturesque with Waterfall and WaterMill only about 50 yards from the Hotel. Check out the record Salmon in the Bar."

- "Quiet, clean, warm , comfortable room and excellent breakfast. " - "Was booked for a different hotel first, then got an email from Hotels.com to inform me they were doing renovations and that they booked me a room in this hotel. I was not disappointed! Great hotel, in a nice place of town. Laura at the front desk was amazing. They have a little restaurant/bar attached to it, with amazing food. Scot was an excellent server. Breakfast the next day was also great, lots of options to choose from. Ample free parking around the hotel. Only cons -maybe- the bed was not the most comfortable, and the plumbing;water kept going hot and cold. But it is an old building, so I like to chalk it up to character!"

Beds comfy and warm. 2min walk to beach. Dog loved it. Yeah " - "It is what it says exactly " - "The key was in a lock box. We never met the owner, although they were responsive to Emails. I suspect that they were keeping an eye on the place from the Y-Not Inn across the street somehow. The apartment had the feel of a large hotel suite that was frequently used. That is not a bad thing; just the assembly line feel of it - it was comfortable, but not charming or homey. It definitely met our needs as a base to explore the north coast for a couple of days. A decent Co-Op Foods is just across the street and a Gulf petrol staion just up the block. The award-winning Reid's Fish & Chips is just around the corner (next to a laundry), and was perhaps the best we had in our three weeks in Scotland and the Dales, although we did tell Enzo's in Ayr that we would give them a vote. Reid's was worth the walk in the rain. Thurso itself was nice and had a cosmopolitan feel. The area around the apartment felt safe and was reasonably quiet. The occasional young drunks all seemed to get home from the pub by 10 PM. The kitchen was well equipped, but, as with most rentals, we found toxic Teflon aplenty and made cooking plans accordingly. Plenty of hot water and the Wi-Fi was OK for basic tasks and would probably support gaming. It was difficult to tell at a glance if the connection were exclusive to this unit, so I took care with security. No real complaints about this property and would consider staying here again."

Why not sit in the comfort of the living room with roaring log burner or look out the window enjoying stunning valley views. Alternatively stand at the front door and soak up the view of the Rocky coastline, cliffs and surrounding farmland. You may even find the odd sheep/lamb, chicken or hen wandering in the garden.
The house is only a few minutes drive from the very popular surfing beaches of Farr and Strathy and also near the village of Bettyhill where visitors can go for a dip in the public swimming pool or relax in their steam room or Jacuzzi.
For those guests travelling with young children you are never far from farm animals , but you only have to walk out to the next door neighbour's garden to see chickens, hens, goats, horses and ponys.
Located just off the North Coast 500 tourist route and only a short drive to the ferry of Scrabster terminal to visit Orkney. Near by is the large town of Thurso and further a field is the tourist destination of John O Groats.
Other points of interest nearby are the natural wonder of Smoo Cave, Durness, Dunnethead and Dunnethead Lighthouse (which is the most northerly point of the UK), Cocoa Mountain chocolate factory and beautiful Reay Golf Course.
Kirtomy Cottage (historically called Morrisons cottage due to this being in the Morrison family) has been passed down through 4 generations of our family. It is believed to be around 200 years old and there are many photos, postcards, letters and old items in the house that date back to 1919 (including wartime photos)
However due to work commitments the majority of these family are only able to visit once a year. By renting the cottage we are able to make enough money to maintain the cottage and hopefully get to enjoy this for many more years.

Kips Cottage is a rustic former bothy, with very few mod cons, other than amazing views and copious hot water. If you love going back in time and feeling like you are living on the edge of the world, it will be perfect for you. If you are looking for something even vaguely modern, Kips Cottage may not suit.
The cottage is situated in a stunning location just off the North Coast 500 in Sutherland. The cottage looks over the North Atlantic and is surrounded by hillside with fantastic views of the changing coastal scenery.
There is a spacious living area with 2 large sofas, a pine dining table and a wood-burning stove at one end. A charming double bedroom is accessed from the other end of the living space. Also on the ground floor is a basic kitchen, slightly like being on a boat, with a kitchen table and French doors out onto the decked area outside. The kitchen has an electric oven and a butler’s sink. Situated off the kitchen is a charmingly ramshackle bathroom with bath and basin and lavatory.
There is plenty of parking and a garden to explore.
Let Saturday to Saturday June, July & August. Other changeover days OK in other months. Thanks.

Beautiful three bed bungalow, sleeps 5, with parking available and large gardens accessible from front and back door. The bungalow is a 5 minute walk to Scarbster beach and harbour, and a 20 minute walk along the cliff front to the northern-most town on mainland Britain of Thurso. Nearby attractions include the Castle of Mey, John O Groats, Dunnet head and Dunnet beach.
- "The views from this home are spectacular. We visited in January so the weather was snowy, windy and cold. The house was lovely and warm, really comfortable and cozy. It was amazing to watch the weather systems out at sea, the ships coming and going from the harbor and the views all the way to Dunnet Head and beyond. The house itself is situated in a small council estate, driving up to the house is okay, parking a bit tight, but, when you go into the house, wow!! Super comfortable beds, house spotlessly clean, pretty much everything you could need (would have loved a dryer since the weather didn’t lend itself to hanging clothes outside, but it really wasn’t a problem). I can only imagine how wonderful it would be to sit outside in the summer and watch the world go by. I’ve traveled to Thurso so many times and wish I’d found this home sooner, it’s everything you could need and want. Definitely staying here the next time."

Post Office Cottage is a lovely holiday home situated in attractive countryside only ten minutes from Thurso and near to the coastline as well as sandy beaches. The cottage is set in a large plot with enclosed garden mainly laid to lawn, and there’s a great enclosed decking area. There’s a neighbouring RSPB reserve that welcomes many different species throughout the year. Some birds will visit the Post Office Cottage garden whilst you’re visiting, but the majority deserve a visit from you on the reserve. There are more wildlife spotting sites nearby that should be visited as well. Dunnet Head has puffin, gannet and many other colonies at different times of the year, and from cliff paths near to the cottage, you have an excellent chance of spotting whales and dolphins.
The cottage, as well as being surrounded by a lovely garden and having a nearby RSPB reserve, the countryside in view is the owner’s 600-acre beef and sheep farm. There are few neighbours dotted around, but the sense of seclusion and privacy is palpable.
Entering the cottage at the back door you will find the kitchen/dining room which is a great, large space with everything you’ll want and need on holiday. Through the kitchen/dining room there’s a large Jack and Jill bathroom leading to the hallway. The living room has brilliant views over the countryside and that all important, cosy wood burner.
Post Office Cottage offers lovely, comfortable accommodation that you won’t want to leave during your stay. However, we urge you to do so as there are so many things to do and places to see. Thurso is only ten minutes away by car and a very historic place, having been a Norse settlement. There are layers of history to explore and nowadays it’s a great tourism hub with nice restaurants, bars and cafés. Along with Dunnet Head it also has world-class surfing beaches if you’re so inclined.
Fishing is excellent nearby, the River Forss being only a short walk from the cottage and offering trout and salmon permits in season. The Thurso, Halladale and Helmsdale are also world renown rivers to secure permits for. Reay Golf Club is a short drive away and truly is a hidden gem to try. Green Fees are very reasonable indeed. The NC500 touring route will be a favourite of yours during your stay as it will lead you on adventures that you’ll remember forever. Post Office Cottage is a great base for those wanting to tour the far north of Scotland on day trips using the NC500.

You will love everything about Mey Bee. The beautiful interiors make the most of the land and seascapes, and the gardens are unique and lovely - zen garden and private veg patch is a real treat.. Mey Bee is a gem of a cottage in the far north of Scotland enjoying views across rural Caithness and out to see to the Orkney Islands. The owner has done a marvellous job creating this peaceful, attractive cottage from what was once a ruin. Mey Bee is now a beautiful cottage and one that anyone staying in will wish they had more time in the place, it’s that lovely. You may wish to book for longer than you think, you’ll be pleased you did so.
The setting is inspiring and calming. Set within an acre of wildflower meadow the cottage sits under the large Caithness skies because the landscape in the far north is relatively flat, meaning that the views are vast from the cottage. The cliffs of Hoy can be seen when clear and if the light is right The Old Man of Hoy can be made out. Dunnet Head rises above the surrounding landscape and generally sea views are enjoyed out of most windows of Mey Bee - thankfully, the owner has created window seats to enjoy said views.
Arriving at Mey Bee you’re immediately struck by the tranquillity of the place. It has a calmness which is epitomised not only by the wonderful surrounds but also the Zen garden to the rear of the property. Before going into the property, you’ll no doubt want to explore right round the cottage. The owner has created lovely curving paths of local stone and little footpaths through the plot to explore. There are many places to erect a tent as well if you wanted to spend a night under the grand skies and stars as well. The front garden has a lovely sitting area, a vegetable patch for guests use, and a firepit nestled within the wildflower meadow. It’s a beautiful place to be.
Entering the cottage via the back door there’s a utility room which is excellent for leaving boots and drying coats, as well securing bikes and other sports equipment. There is a woodshed outside that also serves as a bike shed. Beyond the utility is the amazing open plan living/dining/kitchen space. There are two wood burners in here, one in the fireplace in front of the sofa, and another by the dining/kitchen area, the latter being the solid fuel central heating and also an extra oven. This space also enjoys lots of lights coming in the windows with window seats, sea views are wonderful from here.
There’s a large bathroom with great bath, and the owner has thoughtfully erected large candles in here for guests to enjoy a peaceful, comforting bath. And finally, the double bedroom is yet another relaxing space with two large windows bringing in the landscapes.
It’s a lovely, peaceful, comfortable cottage that you won’t want to leave once you’ve arrived. However, it is recommended you do a bit of exploring of course. The walks locally are tremendous, you can explore the coastline for as far as you wish in both directions from just down the road at the marvellous Harrow harbour. The Castle of Mey is the neighbouring property to Mey Bee and can be seen across the fields from the rear of the cottage. The NC500 is only a minute away so you can tour till your heart’s content to amazing sights across the north coast and northeast coast. It’s a truly outstanding cottage to spend a week, two or three.. All on the Ground Floor:

- "A really lovely, individual and peaceful property which felt like a home from home. Only a 5 minute walk to the beach. Gorgeous views of Mey Castle from the coastal path. Lots of local walks and coast to enjoy. Dunnet head and beach only 10 minute drive away. The property had everything you could need from a well equipped kitchen to two lovely log burners, one with built in oven (there is also a normal oven in the property). A very helpful and kind owner. Have a look at the photo album in the living room for pictures of the property before it was restored. "

- "I enjoyed staying there. It's in a quiet area just as you leave the village. No problems at all." - "Cottage was perfect when we approached and went through the door , we moved the wicker basket to use it as a coffee table as it had glass on top of it , underneath there was lots of dead beasties , dread to think what the bottom of the basket was like , I swept them up and carried on , to realise we could not lock the door from the inside so had to leave it unlocked , apart from that it’s a lovely little place for a night or 2"

Please note: There is 1 step in the garden.. Situated on a promontory and enjoying spectacular sea views, Ethel’s House is a detached stone cottage set in its own garden, adjacent to a working croft. Much loved by its original family, this traditional stone cottage was painstakingly moved stone by stone to a higher vantage point in the village of Armadale on the far north-west coast of Scotland. The current owners have completely renovated this charming cottage and it now provides a good standard of accommodation in a truly superb setting.
Entering through the pretty patio gardens that look out across the sea, a hallway leads through to the main accommodation. There is a delightful living room with leather sofa suite and a cosy wood burner. The kitchen/dining room is extremely well-equipped with contemporary built-in units and a good sized solid wood dining table. All the windows look out across the bay. There is a large shower room on this floor. Upstairs there are three very attractively decorated and furnished bedrooms. Skylight windows ensure that visitors can encounter the dramatic sunrises and sunsets afforded by the clear unpolluted skies in this part of the Highlands (and for those who prefer, black out blinds are built-in too!). The cottage has oak flooring on the ground floor, high quality wool carpeting in the bedrooms and underfloor heating throughout.
Situated just off the renowned North Coast 500 route, in the quiet hamlet of Armadale, this cottage is ideal for visitors wishing to explore this totally unspoilt area. Sea otters are regularly spotted on the shoreline below the cottage and whales, basking sharks, porpoises and seals all frequent the local waters. There are superb walks direct from the cottage and numerous outdoor activities close by, including kayaking, sailing, hill walking, fishing, surfing, golf and plenty of archaeological sites and historic places of interest. In winter months it is often possible to see the Northern Lights from the cottage garden. The nearby villages of Melvich and Bettyhill, both within 10 minutes’ drive, have a good selection of amenities, including pub, restaurant, café and a small local shop. The beaches along this coastline are renowned for their wide sandy bays with high sand dunes, and spectacular mountain backdrops. Beach ½ mile. Shop 7 miles, pub and restaurant 3 miles.
The property is located on a working farm.
Children must be supervised on site due to possible safety hazards.
Pets must be kept on a lead at all times.
