I suspect that they were keeping an eye on the place from the Y-Not Inn across the street somehow. The apartment had the feel of a large hotel suite that was frequently used. That is not a bad thing; just the assembly line feel of it - it was comfortable, but not charming or homey. It definitely met our needs as a base to explore the north coast for a couple of days. A decent Co-Op Foods is just across the street and a Gulf petrol staion just up the block. The award-winning Reid's Fish & Chips is just around the corner (next to a laundry), and was perhaps the best we had in our three weeks in Scotland and the Dales, although we did tell Enzo's in Ayr that we would give them a vote. Reid's was worth the walk in the rain. Thurso itself was nice and had a cosmopolitan feel. The area around the apartment felt safe and was reasonably quiet. The occasional young drunks all seemed to get home from the pub by 10 PM. The kitchen was well equipped, but, as with most rentals, we found toxic Teflon aplenty and made cooking plans accordingly. Plenty of hot water and the Wi-Fi was OK for basic tasks and would probably support gaming. It was difficult to tell at a glance if the connection were exclusive to this unit, so I took care with security. No real complaints about this property and would consider staying here again."

- "The views from this home are spectacular. We visited in January so the weather was snowy, windy and cold. The house was lovely and warm, really comfortable and cozy. It was amazing to watch the weather systems out at sea, the ships coming and going from the harbor and the views all the way to Dunnet Head and beyond. The house itself is situated in a small council estate, driving up to the house is okay, parking a bit tight, but, when you go into the house, wow!! Super comfortable beds, house spotlessly clean, pretty much everything you could need (would have loved a dryer since the weather didn’t lend itself to hanging clothes outside, but it really wasn’t a problem). I can only imagine how wonderful it would be to sit outside in the summer and watch the world go by. I’ve traveled to Thurso so many times and wish I’d found this home sooner, it’s everything you could need and want. Definitely staying here the next time."

Guests have access to the entire property and fenced garden.

Vehicles can be parked either inside the garden fence at the rear of the property or on the grassed area just outside the gate - so unpacking is easy! Please be aware this can become muddy.

Please do not park campervans or motor homes outside the property since the ground is quite boggy and will not take the weight. If you are concerned about your vehicle please contact us in advance and we will make arrangements where you can best park.
Other things to note
This is a very quiet and peaceful property on a remote road with very little traffic.

This is a great property to take a rest from camping or hostels and get a good nights sleep and get your clothes washed and dried.

Well behaved dogs are very welcome - we even provide a treat tin for them!

Dog poop bags are also available so please clean up after your dog in the garden area. Please do not let animals on any of the furniture. We do not charge an additional cleaning fee for pets however we will charge if additional cleaning is required after your stay.

The twin bedroom is modern, spacious and is steps away from its own private shower room. The twin beds are ideal if you are a solo traveller or holidaying with a friend. Bathrobes are provided to allow modesty for guests when using the shower room. Tea & filter coffee are available within the bedroom along with a kettle, fresh milk and sugar.

Guests are very welcome to wander round the front garden and enjoy the spectacular views of Dunnet Head, Thurso and Scrabster harbour. We have free range hens that you will meet if walking in the garden. We also have a Hungarian Vizsla dog (Vinnie) who's downfall is his friendliness!

It is a great location for exploring the local area and you can expect to see flocks of starlings in the back garden, the local horse in the top field and plenty of sheep and cows all around. The corner aspect of the small housing area of Westfield also affords a wide view of the ever changing Caithness sky.

Other things to note
We have a lockable shed that can be used to store bikes, wet-suits etc and hope you make use of the porch as place for muddy boots and your wet gear as unfortunately it can occasionally rain in Caithness.

We love this part of the world and we want to to love it and explore it as well.

We have also framed a 1973 vintage map for you to get a feel for the whole area to be displayed in the Hallway.

We also will be adding a laminated series of recommended local walks not published to help you find your way and get the local insider info on where to go.

The space
The caravan is comfortable and clean, there are 2 bedrooms, there not huge but again comfortable and warm. All beds are made up, towels are included. There is toiletries in bathroom.
The kitchen has everything required for cooking with a gas cooker, microwave, toaster and fridge, kettle. T-towels, washing liquid and oven gloves are standard.
The sitting area has a TV with DVD player, there is a selection of family DVDS as well as some books about the area and its history.

Guest access
As we live on a farm there is plenty of walking areas, you are free to wonder but please make sure all gates are firmly shut if you go through them. Friendly farm dogs, pigmy goats,pet sheep also horses. As an extra We also offer farm buggy tours where you can see some of the animals up close including the highland cows. This does need to be booked? Display boards are available for you to see and read explaining farm policy's , history and a environmental impact of the farm

Other things to note
Our water is not on the main supply it comes of the hill, because of this the water appears slightly brown due to the peat it is safe to drink , it goes through filters and a uv system.
I do put a big bottle of water in fridge for you to drink incase you prefer it and I can supply more if you ask.
There is a coin meter for electric which takes £2 coins. The gas for water and cooker is free.

The king bedroom is on the ground floor with views of Thurso Bay and Dunnet Head. Within the room are fitted wardrobes, charging points and tea/coffee making facilities and a fridge. A continental breakfast is served in the room.

Our home is situated above Scrabster harbour, it is a 15-20 minute walk to catch the Orkney ferry. Alternatively it is a great place to stay if you're working in the area or exploring Caithness. If you're passing through on the NC500 this is ideal as a stopping point

The space
The king bedroom is on the ground floor and has a dedicated luxury bathroom which and is steps away from the bedroom. Bathrobes are provided to allow modesty for guests when using the bathroom. Please note there is no television in the bedroom. However you can stream TV options via the internet.

LOCATION - we live in RURAL Scotland, the nearest restaurants are located at Scrabster Harbour which is a 10 minute walk or a short drive.
BATHROOM - is not en-suite but is for sole use of the guests staying in the king room
BREAKFAST - a light breakfast is provided and is packed ready for you to eat at your convenience.

We have spacious parking for guests and the garage is available for push bikes and motorbikes.

Your breakfast will be bagged and ready in the fridge within your bedroom. Included is fruit juice, yoghurt drink, fruits, and pastries. You are welcome to take it away or eat in the room. If you have any dietary issues please let me know and I can make changes to the breakfast.

Kips Cottage is a rustic former bothy, with very few mod cons, other than amazing views and copious hot water.

If you love going back in time and feeling like you are living on the edge of the world, it will be perfect for you. If you are looking for something even vaguely modern, Kips Cottage may not suit.

The cottage is in a stunning location near Bettyhill, just off the North Coast 500 in Sutherland.

The space
You enter Kips Cottage through a the front door, straight into the living room. To your right is the doorway to the main bedroom. Ahead of you is the small wood-lined kitchen. Off the kitchen is a basic bathroom.
To your left is a wood-burning stove, and a door to an end room that contains a fridge freezer and can be used as storage.

Welcome to the most unique and interesting stay of your trip to the Highlands, Iruka, a 1965 USAF ambulance. Unlike most glamping pods, Iruka has plug sockets, a real bed with bedding, and a TV. There is a fully equipped communal area with a hot shower, toilet, kitchen facilities and all you need to cook a meal, there's also a fridge and freezer. Outside is a fire pit, BBQ, coffee machine, & pool table.

The space
The ambulance has a single room with a double bed, plug sockets, electric blanket, and TV. There is a communal area where the kitchen, shower, and toilet are located, this is separate from the ambulance and shared with one other glamping pod.

2 double bedrooms are adequate for 4 adults, we also have a single bed with a trundle underneath ideal for children or 1 adult...the room sizes are excellent! A travel cot and high chair can be provided if requested. All in all the whole house is a perfect size for any trip you are planning. Even better there is a Lidls supermarket about 20 steps away which is ideal for breakfast and last minute shopping on arrival!

Enjoy stunning uninterrupted sea views while sipping on your morning coffee from this cosy studio apartment. The lighthouse is out of use, but is surrounded by dramatic coastal scenery that provides a wonderful setting for walking, wildlife watching and Northern light spotting. Situated in a tranquil rural setting 4 miles off the NC500, this comfortable retreat is the ideal place to reconnect with yourselves and nature.

The space
The studio is small but perfectly formed with all mod cons for an ideal stay.

We fully understand the need for a good nights sleep and have a wonderful Eve mattress on a double bed for you to rest your weary head at night with a king sized duvet and lovely Eco Organic Cotton sheets to keep you warm and cosy.

There is a small, fully-equipped kitchen for you to prepare your meals. We provide the basics such as tea, coffee, sugar and olive oil so you don’t have to try and remember it all!

Facilities include free Wi-Fi, flat screen smart LED television (ariels do not survive on the Lighthouse so there is no terrestrial TV) , gas hob, electric mini oven, fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, iron & (mini) ironing board, hairdryer, shower (no bath), Organic cotton linen, towels and eco friendly soap.

There are East facing patio doors that have direct sea and sunrise views. Additionally, we provide two camping chairs so you can watch the sea from wherever you choose. The sunsets from the West side of the Lighthouse can be spectacular! And we are often frequented with the Northern Lights.

Due to the space being so small it really is only suitable for two people. Unfortunately we cannot accept your human or fur babies. The surrounding cliffs are un-fenced and can be dangerous. Care must be taken at all times.

We are mindful of our environmental impact so we use eco friendly cleaning products, reuse and repair what we can, recycle, compost and source items locally where possible.

There is a shared courtyard you are welcome to use and we have a little (South facing) seating area directly outside The Bothy for your exclusive use (a perfect place for an alfresco breakfast if you're lucky enough to have the weather for it). We ask our guests to be respectful of other residents.

Unfortunately due to the steep stairs leading up to The Lighthouse there is no disabled access.

Other things to note
We’re right in the middle of the North Coast, so a perfect base for explorational day trips.

We have 2 arm chairs perfectly situated in front of patio doors that look directly out to sea. It's possible to see Orca, seals, dophins and many other types of wildlife from the comfort of your chair. We also lucky to have the rare Scottish Primrose flower gracing us with it's beauty on the surrounding grassland.

Our advice is to book more nights than you had planned as once you’re here you will not want to leave!

The access road has potholes and large speed bumps so please drive slowly!

Dwarwick House is a 3 bedroomed property that is located in a quiet residential part of the coastal town of Thurso. The house has a fully equipped kitchen, a large living area that grants access to a private enclosed garden to the rear that includes a decked area. There is a downstairs WC with an upstairs bathroom with both a shower and bath. There is also private parking at Dwarwick House and a garage that can be used.
