We got to the Shorehead guesthouse at around 9:30pm, there was a sign on the door to call a number for late check ins, we did and Erroll (I think that was his name) showed up in a couple of minutes, showed us to the room and took our choice of breakfast for the morning, he even moved the outside table and chairs to let me park in front of the house. The guesthouse is right on the bay and we had the most beautiful view from our window. Our room and the whole house looked really new and clean. The breakfast was delicious, freshly cooked and Erroll even went out of his way to find me Soy milk, he called it the “funny milk”  we also met his wife Jane in the morning, she is an interior designer and you can tell by the fantastic taste in which the guesthouse is decorated (she picked all the colors and furniture). I highly recommend this location, Erroll and Jane were fantastic and Stonehaven is really a little Gem."

Initially after making my reservation online, I was confused about how to check in because there is no "front desk."But the Inn (responding to an email) instructed me to collect my room key at the bar when I arrived, and I was warmly welcomed and helped to my room and immediately made to feel completely at home (thank you Michelle!). The hot shower was the BEST I've had in years, and the in-room coffee/tea maker was a wonderful thing to come home to after hiking to Dunnottar castle in the rain. The bed was the only thing that was uncomfortable (the mattress felt a bit worn down) but otherwise ALL the touches and amenities in the room (towels, shampoo, coffee/tea, welcome biscuits, tourist info on the area) felt luxurious, and the character of the building (excellent radiator and spacious armoire and desk) made it felt very unique. The breakfast (included) was an unexpected treat as well, fresh and delicious. A meal of orange juice, fruit salad, yoghurt and a hearty "Scottish breakfast" with a delicious croissant was exactly what I needed before a day spent hiking in the rain. Then, in the evening, a delicious dinner of locally-caught seafood and homemade Polish apple pie were an enormous treat. But above all, what made Ship Inn particularly special was the staff, especially Michelle; everyone was helpful and welcoming and made every day I was there feel special."

If you prefer sample some fine dining at one of Scotland’s best seafood restaurants, The Tolbooth (booking essential) overlooking the picturesque, historic harbour or just sit by the sea with an ice-cream from Aunt Betty’s – (toppings a must!) and soak in the atmosphere, whilst dolphin spotting. Further restaurants, cafes, bars, ice-cream shops, fish and chip shops (including the Carron famous for its deep fried Mars bars) can be found in the surrounding streets and are too numerous to mention you will just keep finding them!

For the children there is the adventure playground, teenagers the skate park and don’t forget to bring your swimming costume for a quick splash in our famous Art Deco Olympic sized heated out-door pool (summer months only) and offering midweek midnight swims. The leisure centre has an indoor pool open all year. We also have a bowling green, putting and tennis courts – there is something for everyone.

If you are feeling energetic you can walk up through Bervie Braes towards Dunnottar Castle - well worth the climb as once at the top the view on a nice day is amazing of Stonehaven Bay. A further five minute walk and passing the war memorial, you will see our iconic Dunnottar Castle in the distance a spectacular fortress ruins where you can take in the breath-taking awesome scenery, imagining life in the 15th century (Part of Hamlet was filmed here starring Mel Gibson) and a “must” visit.

Stonehaven also has one of the oldest golf courses in Scotland which straddles the Highland Fault Line and offers scenic views across Stonehaven Bay towards Dunnottar (visitors welcome any time and we are able to offer discounted prices). Nearby, the sandstone cliffs of Fowlsheugh hold one of Scotland's largest sea bird colonies. View the puffins during their nesting period; a truly memorable experience.

The Little Mill is a former threshing mill which has been converted into a beautiful open plan living space with three floors; a loft bedroom upstairs, open plan living area lined with books, artwork and antiques, and toilet in the middle floor. We now have a new restaurant, Cammies, a 3 minute walk form the apartment serving up a delicious dining experience. These experiences are guaranteed to satisfy seafood lovers/non-seafood lovers with a number of dining options including a Sunday roast.

Our beautiful farmhouse is around 300 years old. We renovated and upgraded it to make it a welcoming, cosy home-from-home for our guests. It has stunning views over open rural landscape all the way to the sea. It comfortably sleeps up to 5 adults in three bedrooms.

On the ground floor there is a spacious, fully-equipped dining kitchen, a cosy lounge with wood-burning stove, a bathroom and utility room. The small single bedroom is located internally, off the kitchen.

Upstairs there are two large bedrooms. One with a king-size bed and small separate dressing room. The other has two single beds. Our mattresses and bedding are of the highest quality and there is plenty of storage space.

Outside, the farmhouse has a large (60sqm), fully-enclosed, sunny terrace with garden furniture. There is parking space for two or three cars.

Most rooms have sea views.

Full-fibre broadband gives excellent internet connectivity.

This is a new venture for my partner and I and we hope you enjoy your stay in the apartment in the quaint coastal town of Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire. The Snug reflects both coastal and Scottish themes and is a cosy place for couples and families alike. We have sought to equip the Snug to a high standard and to anticipate your needs by providing all the things you might want for a luxurious, relaxing stay and most importantly fun stay!

The Snug is a bright self-catering apartment which is ideally located within walking distance of the “Auld Toon”, harbour area (where the annual Hogmanay fireball ceremony takes place), Stonehaven beach and the town’s world famous open air pool. Furthermore, Stonehaven market square is also a few minutes away and this is where you will find many local shops and attractions. The Snug is an ideal base for exploring the North East of Scotland and further afield. The Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR)/Aberdeen Bypass provides links to various locations in the North East of Scotland.

There are various coffee shops, pubs, restaurants and tourist attractions to visit within close proximity of the apartment.

The apartment is set within a charming Victorian building (a former coaching inn). The Snug has high ceilings and beautiful sash and case windows which reflect its Victorian heritage.

One hundred years ago, the Mill Inn was an important stop for travellers as a coaching inn. Coaches stopped here en route to Aberdeen from Edinburgh and Montrose. Its name derives from the meal mill which stood to the west of the building in what is now the car park. In the late twentieth century the building was converted into the block of flats you see today. There is an art deco bannister inside the building and many other Victorian features.

The Snug boasts 2 good sized bedrooms with a king size bed in each, fresh linen and towels. There are also additional towels provided. There is a private bathroom, with complimentary toiletries, kitchen with a Tassimo coffee machine and living room with a smart TV with Netflix and BT TV. All of these rooms are for the exclusive use of guests in the Snug.

The property benefits from a newly installed oil filled heating system, fans in each bedroom, fresh decor and new flooring throughout. A new washing machine and fridge freezer were also recently added. There is a secure entrance system to the apartment for your added piece of mind.

- "The Snug is in the perfect location for exploring waterfront Stonehaven. Walking distance to lots of restaurants and shops, and very near the start of the walking trail that goes from Stonehaven to the war memorial and Dunnottar Castle. The flat itself is adorable - brightly decorated with lovely Scottish touches. We were a family of two adults and one preteen, and it was a good fit. The kitchen has items to store and prepare food, which we did several of the days. It was great having our own dedicated parking spot as well. My only suggestion for the flat would be a window covering for the purple bedroom that better blocks the light, but we made do. :). We found it really nice to open the windows and prop open the front door for a bit, to enjoy a nice Scottish breeze. When we come to Stonehaven again, we will definitely consider renting The Snug again."
