- "Excellent rooms." - "It didn’t let us down. We primarily chose the hotel because of the location, which I cannot recommend enough. Perfect for our one-night trip to get away for the weekend. Beautiful scenery, fantastic walks on the door-step (Burn O’Vat a particular delight, literally felt like you were walking through a waterfall into a different world), and a lovely, well kept village to wander round for an afternoon. We chose the Hilton primarily because it had a pool and because we expected a good level of quality given the brand reputation. It didn’t disappoint. We went for the smallest room, which was still plenty large for us, and the facilities were just as advertised. Good cleanliness, professional staff and a comfortable bed. The restaurant was particularly good, better than expected, and worth staying in the hotel rather than going down into the town from our opinion. The one negative was that they don’t do a ‘hotel breakfast’ service, only a continental room service option which looked expectedly overpriced. Brunch begins at 10am, but the options are limited (no full Scottish breakfast!). However, given the number of good cafe options in Ballater this wasn’t a problem and not a deal breaker for us. A very enjoyable stay, would have no qualms about returning and doing it all again. "

The cabin is in the village of Braemar with excellent hiking in the summer from the door as well as being 20 minutes from Glen Shee for winter ski-ing. Shops, restaurants and the bus are all close by. The recently-renovated Fife Arms is just along the street - check it out at - great pub food, live music, formal dining and a cocktail lounge. A great new addition to the village!
We are happy to accommodate children by supplying a travel cot and high chair. The large, wilder part of the garden behind the chalet does have a pond and this part of the garden is fenced off.

If you have an electric car, there are two charge points in the village, one beside the toilets in the main car park behind the butcher, and the other in the car park opposite the Invercauld Hotel (opposite side of the road). They are pictured in the property listing's photos. Please let us know if you can't use these chargers as we can run a line from the shed for you. There will be a £15.00 fee for each time you charge your car at the cabin, based on RAC data.

The tiny house is located on a small steading nestled in the heart of the Cairngorms, on the edge of beautiful Ballater. As you enter you will see an old stone building and a newly landscaped wildflower garden. It has been planted with native wildflowers and will provide a habitat for local wildlife.

At the steading, we are trying to build unique, low-impact sustainable holiday accommodations, with high-quality design and materials for our guests. The tiny house is newly built and 100% finished. However, you may notice other projects on the property which are not completed to the same level as the tiny house, though, this should not impact or disturb you during your stay, whatsoever.

The tiny house is perfectly situated to access all that the Cairngorms and Royal Deeside have to offer. Walking trails, hiking, golf, mountain biking, skiing and other outdoor activities are all on your doorstep.

The accommodation is located a mile and a half to Ballater. You can either drive or walk along the much loved 7 bridges walk to get to the village. Here you can find a selection of café’s, restaurants and pubs, or possibly a bit of local independent shopping. If you want to visit the Queen, Balmoral Estates is a stone’s throw away. Balmoral and Royal Lochnagar Whiskey distillery are only 6 miles away. Also close by is the Historic Town of Braemar.

However, I could have used the 201 bus (bus drivers are happy to let you off and pick you up even if it's not specifically a bus stop), just get the location (description) from the host. I wanted to post this because travelling with public transport is fun, economical, and a great way to experience a place. Also eco friendly. Highlights: rented bikes in Ballater (25 pounds/day), LOVED swimming in the river Dee just 2 minutes from the cabin, picking raspberries, visiting Knock Castle, enjoying Cask Beer at the local tavern, and chatting with the hosts: friendly and helpful. Offering magnificent views across the Upper Dee Valley to Ben Macdui, the heart of the Cairngorm National Park, here you will find mountain activities which have made this part of the Highlands a famous tourist area. It is an ideal area for those who simply wish to wander through idyllic scenery and perhaps see a glimpse of an osprey, golden eagle or capercailzie.

Braemar village nestling amongst heather covered hills, is the setting for the annual Highland Gathering, also Braemar Castle with its barrel-vaulted ceilings, underground prison and central tower with spiral staircase, has much historical interest. The area abounds with castles, including Balmoral, the Scottish baronial mansion which has been a royal residence since 1852. The Royal Family traditionally spend their summer holidays here, and the grounds are ideal for walking and pony trekking. Dunnottar Castle is one of Scotland’s finest ruined castles, a huge 9th-century fortress set on a three-sided sheer cliff jutting into the sea, with dramatic views out to the crashing sea.

Well worth a visit is the Cairngorm Whisky Centre in Tomintoul (1 hour), with its tasting room offering more than 1,000 brands of whisky.

There is extensive hill walking and challenging mountain climbing opportunities from the door and in the winter months if sufficient snow, good skiing at Glenshee (20 mins). For those who do not wish to climb the mountains but still want to see the awe inspiring views, take the chairlift at Glenshee to the observation point a short distance from the top of the Cairnwell mountain. Of traditional design the charming detached granite built cottage was extended in 2014 with a substantial timber framed, and clad, extension to the rear.

There are 3 reception rooms, including a new and fully equipped kitchen/living room and bathroom/wc with an electric shower over the bath on the ground floor. Upstairs there are 2 comfortable bedrooms ( one double and 1 twin ) and another bathroom/wc with separate shower.
The 2014 extension and the complete renovation carried out to the original cottage in 2011 now afford a lovely holiday home in this most idyllic location overlooking the River Dee.

The property is over 2 floors with 4 bedrooms all with smart TVs, ample clothes storage and luxury linen and towels. Bedroom 1 benefits from a wood burning stove, bedroom two has a fully tiled en-suite bathroom with barn door access and bedrooms 3 & 4 located upstairs are spacious whilst remaining cosy and comfortable with additional seating areas perfect for relaxing or reading.
