This is Willits CA, most hotels/motels host people that are just passing through and it shows. This hotel is a worthwhile stop on your journey. Even if you have to drive a little further to reach this spot it's worth it. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff is courteous and it's set back in a quiet location. This hotel is also kid and pet friendly. It serves a modest but adequate continental breakfast. For the price you pay the spa is a real treat, don't expect the Mandarin but then again you are not paying Mandarin prices. A deep tissue massage, or some relaxing aroma therapy is just what you need to get you ready to continue your road trip, start your day off just right or end the day in total relaxation. A beautiful 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom, 1,220 square foot wine country residence situated on one of Boonville Road’s (Hwy 253) most exclusive ranches, DogWood is a private retreat with a multitude of features. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer forest and rolling valley views and bring in plenty of sunlight and moonlight from every room. Perhaps the property's most impressive features can be found outside the front door where you will find a private pond for fishing and swimming, miles of trails to explore and numerous shade spots and knolls for picnics, naps and reading. Dining: A salvaged wood French bakery table featuring bentwood/rattan seating provides workspace and dining accommodations for up to 8 people. Entertaining is enhanced by stoneware, flatware and a selection of placemats and napkins to fit every occasion.

Main Bedroom Suite: Wake up to the views of Sherwood Forest in a modern, minimalist California King Thuma platform bed featuring a Tempurpedic mattress and high-quality sheets and bedding, alpaca blankets and a selection of soft-to-firm pillows either in down or down alternatives. The extra-large bedroom offers two cozy reading chairs, ample closet space with storage drawers, 40” Samsung television featuring Chromecast for customized viewing and a modern desk. All windows feature privacy/room darkening roller shades. It’s a great space for solitude!

Main Suite Bathroom: A true private spa getaway with views of the country and plenty of on-demand hot water fed from our private well, the extra-large bathroom features a soaking tub (for two) and a separate rainfall Shower. Plush Turkish towels, bubble bath and bath salts are provided.

Second Bedroom Suite: A cozy version of the Main Bedroom, the second bedroom offers the same high quality sheets, bedding and pillows for a rejuvenating sleep. Laundry Room: Commercial grade Speed Queen Washer and Dryer, Cleaning Equipment and Supplies, Wet Sink, iron/ironing board and general pet supplies provide the added conveniences of home.

Other Modern Amenities: Central HVAC, Screened windows, Wireless High-Speed Internet, high-grade water treatment and softening system. While the cottage has central air-conditioning there are many days that you can open the windows (that all have screens) to let the country fresh air in, especially during the cool Spring/Summer nights.

DogWood Pond: The property features a 2-acre pond (commonly referred as Piano Lake due to it's shape) that is managed by a professional aquatics manager every month throughout the year and is safe for swimming and fishing. We have plenty of towels for swimming (separate from the bathroom towels) for both humans and dogs. For those who enjoy fishing, the pond is stocked with Bass with some Blue Gill. After the Bass spawning season is over (late May), caught Bass has ranged from 10-14 inches (3-4 pounds). Most folks that come up are catch-and-release but we have had folks (especially our aquatics manager) that enjoy a good pond Bass dinner! :)

- "This cottage is a short walk to restaurants and shops in downtown Booneville. There is a lovely porch to sit on and a fence screens it from the road. It is right next to a bridge that makes a thump-thump everytime a car goes by which is pretty often because it is the only access for many homes. That might bother some. So might the raccoon living under the porch but not us - those things seemed charming." - "Great location, cozy and delightful."

Enjoy your private room, on a gated estate, with French doors that open up to the outdoor pool, with lush garden surroundings and a gorgeous fountain view, out your window, on the front lawn. There's a NEW 2 person private spa!, on the back deck of the Ranch House, for your use, while you are staying with us. There is also a lovely gas fire pit, just steps from your room, just above the pool area. Room has a Tommy Bahama king size sleigh bed, with very comfortable mattress, with luxurious bedding and Tommy Bahama armoire that houses a large Smart TV. Room also has a mini-refrigerator-freezer, toaster oven, microwave and Keurig with complimentary Pete's coffee and creamer. There is a large outdoor Weber-Genesis BBQ, for grilling and two outdoor dining tables. There are several restaurants, just minutes from the estate, if you want to "go out" or pick up "take-out" to dine in. Let us know if you would like any recommendations! There is an outdoor shower but master bathroom also has a lovely oversized shower, as well. You also have a view of the beautiful barn with 2 sweet mules, 6 very friendly goats (various breeds) and of the front and back vineyards. In addition, the 1 acre lake has various seating spots, where you can sip on a glass of wine or watch the gorgeous notorious Redwood Valley sunsets. - "Wonderful stay very relaxing beautiful property with lush flowers and trees. Lovely private lake with boat and kayaks to use. Each had room/ house had a individual Jacuzzi spa with their own private deck. Relaxed at the quaint shared pool that was off the suite we stayed in and slept with the doors open all night. There were fresh eggs, cream, butter, everything to make a delicious breakfast. Exploring the property was enjoyable, stopping to pet the horses sweet goats and loving being among a lush vineyard. The rooms and property were all beautiful. The Barrel room where the barrel strips were the celling, retro upscale décor which was simply beautiful with a glass door garage door that opened up to feel the lake breezes. We loved every minute of our stay and will be back."

My home is in the heart of Mendocino wine country, just minutes from the town of Ukiah and 1hr 40min from SF. You'll love this property's open floorplan, clean home with spectacular mountaintop views taken in while lounging, eating, hot tubbing, and even showering (heated shower) poolside on a 21 acre property good for short walks and picnics. Has 3-4 acre fenced in area perfect for pets! Home is great for couples, small groups of friends, families and kids and pets. Deck hot tub for 6 overlooks scenic valley!

The space

The house has a bright open kitchen floor plan with incredible views out panel sized windows and sliding glass doors. Perfect for seamless indoor/outdoor living on the 2000 square foot south-southeast facing redwood deck with a pool, hot tub, gas grill and even an outdoor shower!

A 6 person hot tub on the deck overlooking the scenic Bell Valley is great in any weather. The spa is cleaned and treated every week.

The kitchen is newly remodeled farmhouse style with new appliances and deep sink, and an island with a stovetop, designed for eating and socializing during cooking.

There is a 400-foot long dirt and rock driveway up to the house, steep in parts, that can be intimidating for drivers not used to driving on rural dirt roads. It is smoothed and re-rocked every year and is accessible to front-wheel drive vehicles, however for vehicles without 4 wheel drive, you may likely experience some tire spin driving up, plus cars will collect dust from the road, especially in the late summer and early fall before the first rains of the fall. If this is something that you are not comfortable with we advise that you do not book the house. Our cleaners drive front-wheel drive sedans up the driveway on a regular basis all year without difficulty, so it is accessible for non 4 wheel drive vehicles but drivers with minimal experience on rural roads may be reluctant so be please be advised that you may experience tire spin while going up the driveway. We provide additional guidance on driving up (drive up with momentum, in low automatic gear) and are happy to answer any questions to prospective guests but please be advised that, again, the driveway to the house is a steep, dirt and rock road when deciding to book. You are always welcome to park some or all vehicles along the bottom section of our private driveway above lower gate for walking or shuttling a second car if you feel more comfortable only driving a four wheel drive vehicle up the driveway.

Pool is a weekly cleaned and treated unheated pool exposed to direct sunlight almost the whole day with a solar cover. The pool can be warm enough to swim into October and early as April depending on how hot or cold the recent weather has been and whether/how much it has rained recently. We have a heated outdoor shower right next to the pool. The pool is winterized from November-March because the water temperature is typically quite cool. Lovely Mediterranean plants dot the hillside next to the deck including blooming olive trees and lavender. Deck edge facing downhill is secured with fencing with other sides open to flat or gently-sloped ground or short set of stairs. There are steep hills once off the deck so small children will require supervision. There is a Weber barbecue grill at the house perfect for outdoor grilling and eating.

Master bedroom has a king size brand new memory foam mattress, wall mounted flat screen with cable and Netflix. It has windows overlooking the mountains valley and a sliding glass door directly onto the deck next to the pool. The master bathroom has a shower and raised bathtub, with two separate sinks. The second bedroom has a brand new queen size memory foam mattress and direct access to the second bathroom with a window that looks onto the garden.

There is a new queen-size Aerobed and a comfortable futon sleeper sofa for use in the very large sized family room for additional guests.

The house has a new washer and drier, new dishwasher, and full cell phone coverage and high speed wifi internet access. The house is also stocked with books, games and some toys.

Guest Access

Guests have access to the full private access 21 acre property of lovely, mature California oak and Manzanita trees savannah hillsides which includes a 3-4 acre fenced in area for pets. Please close driveway gate upon entry and exit to prevent deer from coming in and eating the plants near the house. The house and deck and nearly all of the property offer full privacy with neighboring properties' homes at quite a distance away. A good walk on the property is to walk up the hillside just outside the manual gate. Towards the top of the property you can find a bench on a flatter area that is great for picnics, with lovely views of the Ukiah Valley.

Mendocino County Guest Tax (included in the cost of your stay):
The county requires any short term lodging host (hotel, camping, B&Bs, VRBOs) to collect an 11% Transient Occupancy Tax based on the stay charge excluding cleaning and service charge fees. Payment is collected by VRBO and paid by the host to the county.

The neighborhood

The house is very private on 21 acres, with similar large acreage properties of friendly full time resident neighbors. Please be respectful to our close community of neighbors by not hosting any parties and by maintaining reasonable volume levels as sound does travel up and down the mountainside and valley.

Within 5-10 minutes of the house, you can find excellent visitor friendly Mendocino County winery estates including food and live music in the Ukiah Valley. The town of Ukiah has great restaurants and weekly outdoor events in summer. The City of Ten Thousand Buddhas is a Buddhist temple and monastery nearby that is worth visiting.

The house is also right off of Boonville Road which is a lovely roughly 15 mile drive to the adjacent Anderson Valley wine district. The quaint towns of Boonville, Philo and Navarro in the heart of the Anderson Valley AVAs have world class wineries specializing in pinot noir, chardonnay, syrah, and sparkling wines, as well as excellent restaurants. The pioneering craft beer Anderson Valley Brewery has a tap room and offers daily tours. There are several wine and other festivals throughout the year in the Anderson Valley and Ukiah Valley.

Getting around

There is plenty of parking in the circle driveway next to the home. The lower gate remains open while the upper gate next to the garden shed is to keep deer out of the plants near the house and allow pets to have a confined space to roam so please make sure the gate is securely closed after each entry and exit. Access to Highway 101 is less than five minute drive to and from the house. Please be advised that as most places in nature in Northern California there is always the risk of ticks for your pets and yourselves, so you should be sure and check yourselves and your pets after trips out into the property and nature.

Also our local brewery makes delicious beer and offers tastings and tours as well. Hiking is a treat in Hendy Woods, along the Navarro River, or on the Coast. We are a short half hour drive to the gorgeous Mendocino Coast. We are only a few minutes from Camp Navarro, a local site for music events, retreats, weddings, etc.

Although we are not remote, you feel solitude, as no other buildings are visible from the property. Serene and private, the two-story house has two bedrooms with a futon in living room. Sleeps 4 comfortably. On the second floor a master bedroom has a queen-size bed and museum-quality paintings, the second bedroom has a queen bed with a romantic south-facing balcony for stargazing or greeting the day. A full bath on second floor. Downstairs a double futon-couch can accommodate an additional guest in the large living room. A wood-burning stove affords visible cheer and extra warmth. The home is filled with stunning artwork. Ethnic fabrics on upholstery, pillows and spreads add more artistic touches, but the home is kid-friendly, with extra folding futons and air mattress.

We also have several local breweries and last but not least our beautiful farmers market every Saturday early morning to mid afternoon. If your looking for a refreshing change you will love Ukiah.

There were plenty of hiking trails nearby, and the Redwood groves offered a magical experience. We also enjoyed a short drive to the coast, where we explored beautiful beaches.
