Once we got that straightened out, things were easier. It is very remote, bring everything you need for food and drink with you. Bacalar stores are about 1/2 hour drive. The place is beautiful and you feel like you are in a jungle. The outdoor kitchen has everything you need including an outdoor grill. They provide small pots with charcoal and salts to help keep the mosquitos away at night and it was quite successful. The beach club you have access to is run down so we didn’t stay long enjoying the villa grounds instead. I would definitely return to this place."

- "This house was booked last minute for an improptu women's holiday because it was available and allowed a pet. The view of the lake is beautiful, but you can't get in and out to swim here. Many things were in disrepair like doors, windows, and screens. Linens, towels, water, toilet paper was not ready for us and had to be asked for and was stained and worn. The microwave and stove top were not setup to work and our air conditioner went out on our second day. I would not stay here again but the host was nice. "

Villa Alebrije is located just a few steps from the famous Bacalar lagoon in a small Mayan town called Buenavista (Nice View). It is a new-build house with modern design including two identical separate bedrooms, each with private bathroom and access to its own backyard. The kitchen and dining room make it ideal for the evening BBQ's.

Villa Alebrije is a great choice for families, couples, individuals or for anybody who seeks silence and quietness.

Buenavista is located about 20 minutes from the town of Bacalar, 30 minutes from the Caribbean coast of Mahahual and 50 minutes from the boarders of Belize. There are many archeological sites near by, as well as countless free-time activities on the lagoon.

Our house is located on the edge of the town with walkable distance to the "downtown" of Buenavista, where you can buy some groceries or prepared local meals.

There is some basic stuff for cooking in the house such as oil, salt & pepper, different spices, ketchup, mustard, hot sauces, tea & coffee. We have also a potable water barrel for our guests free to use.

Guest Access:
The access to Bacalar lagoon is only about 300 meters from our house. There is a public access, as well as entry thru local lido with 35 pesos (2 USD) fee with possibility of renting kayaks or paddle boards for additional fee. This part of Bacalar lagoon is very quiet with no motor boats around, so you can enjoy total peace!

The Neighborhood:
In case that you are planning to cook, we are recommending to make some groceries on your way to the house, preferably in town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto or Bacalar. Buenavista is a small town with few local stores where you can buy only some basic food as pasta, rice, fruits & vegetables, soft drinks, beer and more. We also recommend to buy some mosquito repellent.

Also, please note that there is not any ATM and money exchange in Buenavista, so if you need to withdraw or exchange money, you can do it in Bacalar town or somewhere on your way as well.

Getting Around:
Please just do NOT follow the AirBnb's location, it doesn't work properly! Make sure to follow the link provided in our welcome message. There is very poor cellphone service in the town of Buenavista, so in case that your maps application needs data to work, open it somewhere with still good cellphone service.

There's a public bus stop right in Buenavista as well, but own or rental car would be the best.

THE CASITA
A private 2-bedroom 1-bathroom suite, tucked away in its own corner of the villa with views of the jungle, peek a boo view of the lake, decorated in a jungle theme with Talavera tiles for a wonderful Mexico charm. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a stainless-steel fridge/freezer and stove/oven and all small appliances. The TV is on a swing mounted to view from living area and primary BR. THE PERCH
An airy space perched up in the jungle canopy with big windows with a terrace that feels like you are right in the jungle. Watch the monkeys flying in the trees and a great spot for bird watching. THE GREAT ROOM
The Great room has a separation divider; the lake side is the dining hall that has a beautiful wood dining table that seats twelve to fourteen. The great room features 27' ceilings, curved wall with large glass windows that look out to the lake. A great gathering spot for family's and groups vacationing together. There is a sideboard and a queen futon to relax or additional sleeping space if necessary. Sliding doors open into the Casa kitchen from the great room.
Beyond the divider is an armoire - storage for the lake toys, life jackets . There is a library bookcase filed with books and board games, this is also the entrance for the Casita, up the stairs takes you up to the catwalk. First door you will come to is the Nest entrance, continue past the Nest and you will come to a door that opens onto the roof top deck with the TIKI Bar, Spiral stairs take you up to the highest viewing point; 360 lake views and jungle canopy.

The Perch is an airy space and is perched up in the jungle canopy with big windows and terrace looking right into jungle. Watch the monkeys leaping through the trees, it is the perfect spot to relax and watch the birds as well. There is a well-equipped kitchenette with fridge/freezer, propane 2- burner stove, toaster, blender, and microwave. It has a Queen pillow top bed and a Double pillow top bed. The TV is mounted to view from the whole space or if you are lying in bed. The huge washroom has a walk-in rain shower, dressing area and closet. The space is completely private and away from the rest of the Villa. It opens onto the rooftop deck where the Tiki Bar is located: you will see spiral stair this takes you to the highest roof top "observatory" with sweeping 360-degree views. The Perch can be rented along with the whole villa or any part of the villa.

- "This was our first visit to Bacalar, it is trully an amazing place. If you are looking for a secluded lakefront property where you can feel like you are part of nature, this is the place. We spent 4 days in Sally´s house and it was an incredible experience, although being in a gated community it feels like you are totally by yourself and we never saw anyone else in the lagoon during our vacation. The house has a couple of Kayaks that our kids loved, feeling like explorers researching all over the lake, they went by themselves and decided where to unload to snorkel around. The town of Bacalar is a 15 to 20 min drive from the house and Chetumal´s airport is about 50 minutes, but you should rent a car or you won´t be able to move around the area. If you come make sure to make a whole day trip to Mahahual, an amazing beach town with a very interesting vibe just 50 minutes from the house in the opposite direction from Bacalar, we had an incredible meal and day in Beach club www.nacionalbeachclub.com, the chef is a definite grill master, you have to try the octopus! It is really a must see place on your visit here. In a few words, if you want to feel what is like to be immersed in nature, spend a few days in a jungle paradise with a tranquil lagoon at your disposal, this is your place, you won´t be dissapointed!"

The Space:
You will have access to a brand new modern villa (165 m2 / 512 ft2) located in a private, quite and safe Aqua Viva resort. On the 1st floor you will find a living room with AC unit and ceiling fan, smart TV, comfortable sofa, fully equipped kitchen, work space and a 1/2 bathroom. Large sliding windows give you access to a wide outside terrace with another dining table and comfortable seats for relaxing. The 2nd floor consists two identical bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and balcony. Both bedrooms include an AC unit and ceiling fan, closet and working space. On the upper hallway you will find a sofa-bed. Starlink internet is available within the whole property to ensure you’ll have access to the internet anywhere you go.

Out side you will find a 20 meter long pool with a shaded areas, tables, chairs and cots where you can sit or lay and relax. A smaller gym is also available to stay in shape. Temazcal sauna is available for complete relaxation. We also provide several grills in the resting areas in case that you want to make some delicious BBQ’s. The reception is available 24/7 in case you need any assistance.

Our guests have access to Cayuco Maya beach club free of charge as long as you order something in the restaurant or bar. In case Cayuco Maya is hosting an event, our guests have access to another beach club under the same conditions. The only difference is that this club is not within walking distance from the villas but is located in Bacalar.
