The cats and dogs were friendly- especially the cats, loved the lap cuddles… Bacalar is a gem. We are very happy we got to experience before it turns more commercial. Felt very safe in town and enjoyed all the town offered. All in all the property and the management were amazing, a few kinks but for the price we paid the value was on point. Many things were in disrepair like doors, windows, and screens. Linens, towels, water, toilet paper was not ready for us and had to be asked for and was stained and worn. Enjoy a lake front view of Laguna Bacalar from your private patio. Our unique loft styled palapa features a gigantic patio with dining table plus outside chairs for enjoying the view. Inside the upstairs loft has a king size bed while downstairs is a fully equipped kitchen (okay no oven – but rarely used here in Bacalar) – a spacious living room with a trundle bed allowing two others to sleep peacefully . There is Wifi both inside and out allowing you two work or stream videos. The Palapa is designed as the Mayans did with palms creating a thatched roof designed to keep the interior cool . There is NOW WITH AIR CONDITIONING in the Palapa. Windows are large and allow air to flow. Plus we do have plenty of fans to also keep you cool. The bathroom is large with both hot and cold water.
The shared dock is 20 steps down to the water where you can enjoy swimming , floating or simply relaxing under the shaded palapa roof.
We are only a 7 minute from town but due to our northern location – we are extremely quiet , unique and private. You can see flocks of parrots, parakeets and even toucans in the trees here. And the stars you can see at night breathtaking!!

Guests in our three villas share access to our dock and the hammocks and lounges under its palapa. Free to use are three single sit-on-top kayaks and an excellent canoe, for exploring the laguna or paddling to our nearest favorite restaurant. Also available are a couple inflatables, a pile of foam noodles, a few children's lifejackets, and some masks, snorkels and fins.
Other things to note
We ask guests to check in between 12 and 6pm, so please plan your flights and drive time accordingly. We are 4 hours south of Cancun airport, the last 2 hours of which have almost no cell signal or streetlights. We are 40 minutes from Chetumal airport, where evening flight arrivals are often delayed. If you expect to arrive after 6 pm, please check with us before booking to confirm whether we can accommodate a later arrival.

You are always welcome to arrive early and relax on the dock until your villa is ready (we have a separate bathroom and changing area). On your departure day, you are welcome to enjoy the dock and laguna after checking out. Late checkout may be available.

We love animals. We have six friendly dogs who like new people, especially kids.They live in our house, at the other end of the property. They spend most of their time near the house, unless you love dogs, in which case they know it and may hang out near you. They also like well-socialized dog visitors who are good with cats (we have two). If you would like to bring yours, please do!, but let us know first. You and your pooches are welcome to join us for the morning jungle walk. :-)

Buenavista is located about 20 minutes from the town of Bacalar, 30 minutes from the Caribbean coast of Mahahual and 50 minutes from the boarders of Belize. There are many archeological sites near by, as well as countless free-time activities on the lagoon.

Our house is located on the edge of the town with walkable distance to the "downtown" of Buenavista, where you can buy some groceries or prepared local meals.

There is some basic stuff for cooking in the house such as oil, salt & pepper, different spices, ketchup, mustard, hot sauces, tea & coffee. We have also a potable water barrel for our guests free to use.

Guest Access:
The access to Bacalar lagoon is only about 300 meters from our house. There is a public access, as well as entry thru local lido with 35 pesos (2 USD) fee with possibility of renting kayaks or paddle boards for additional fee. This part of Bacalar lagoon is very quiet with no motor boats around, so you can enjoy total peace!

The Neighborhood:
In case that you are planning to cook, we are recommending to make some groceries on your way to the house, preferably in town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto or Bacalar. Buenavista is a small town with few local stores where you can buy only some basic food as pasta, rice, fruits & vegetables, soft drinks, beer and more. We also recommend to buy some mosquito repellent.

Also, please note that there is not any ATM and money exchange in Buenavista, so if you need to withdraw or exchange money, you can do it in Bacalar town or somewhere on your way as well.

Getting Around:
Please just do NOT follow the AirBnb's location, it doesn't work properly! Make sure to follow the link provided in our welcome message. There is very poor cellphone service in the town of Buenavista, so in case that your maps application needs data to work, open it somewhere with still good cellphone service.

There's a public bus stop right in Buenavista as well, but own or rental car would be the best.

My little cabin is great for relaxing after a long day of adventures in this beautiful magical village. It has 1 double bed ideal for couples, A/C, Wifi, private kitchen, hygiene items, private bathroom with hot water and small seating area outside the cabañita ideal for relaxing.

It is located just 1 block from the Laguna of the 7 colors, there are shops and restaurants just 1 block away and the center of Bacalar is 5 blocks away.

It is a rustic cabin with a fan and air conditioning, it does not have a full kitchen, that is to say that you will only have the kitchen utensils inside the room. You have what you need to rest after a long day of adventures in Bacalar.

During your stay
Normally I will not be present in the unit.
Arrivals from 2pm until 11pm are given the skunk personally, after 11pm the arrival is self-confident, one day the reservation is confirmed you only have to tell me an approximate time of arrival to send you the instructions.

Enjoy the simplicity of this small, quiet and safe place. We are 5 blocks from the central park, one block from one of the main avenues that takes you to the main restaurants and stalls in the center of the town, and 1 block from the lagoon. Ideal for a hike on the coast or downtown. Fully independent room entrance.

Our home is a modest small but comfortable space for an overnight stay. A very simple room, it has a private bathroom with hot water (solar heater), a king size bed, high-speed wifi, smart tv, air conditioning, minibar.
(We accept small pets with an additional cost of cleaning, under rules.)
