- "My friend and I spent 11 wonderful nights at the "maison" and couldn't be more pleased. The house was spacious, well appointed and the location was exceptional! An easy 10 minute walk to town. The location is in a very quiet, country type setting. Perfect for evening walks. The house was well equipped - we only needed groceries. There is a small but well stocked grocery/deli store right at the entrance of town within the 10 minute walk. The hosts were very gracious in stocking the kitchen with salt, pepper, olive oil, herbs de Provence and balsamic vinegar. Even a starter supply of instant coffee and tea. A nice touch was a welcome gift of Provence cookies and a bottle of rose - my favorite wine now. One drawback was the second bedroom which is located in a former entryway. There was only a curtain, no door, that separated the little room from the hallway. And no place to put a suitcase, but we made it work. We certainly liked the fact that the bathroom was separate from the spacious shower room. Enjoyed the covered patio area for dining and relaxing in the comfortable lounge chairs. Perfect for sunbathing and reading. The backyard could use a little TLC - a bit of a limited view of the next door vineyard. Overall this was a very enjoyable stay and experience. We will be back next year. We loved our "maison.""

THE LOCATION:

Our house, ‘LES GENETS’, sits on the western edge of the medieval village of VAUGINES, nestled between the villages of LOURMARIN (5 kms or 3.1 miles) and CUCURON (3 kms or 1.8 miles).

The house is 150 square metres and sits on a 630 square metre south-facing lot in the upper western end of the village. The land directly to the south/southwest of the property is agricultural and undeveloped, which provides a lovely, unobstructed view.

Vaugines is situated on the southern side of the Luberon Regional Park and is an ideal base for exploring the many diverse regions that Provence has to offer. Being centrally located makes for easy day trips to Aix-en-Provence, St. Remy, Avignon, the Mediterranean, not to mention all of the wonderfully charming and unique villages of both the south and north Luberon, many of which are listed among France's 'Les Plus Beaux Villages de France'. Vaugines is a tranquil environment to return home to after a day of touring and crowds. The house is less than a five-minute walk to the village square. There is an excellent gastronomic restaurant, a cafe/pizzeria, as well as a small epicerie that sells freshly baked breads, croissants and pastries.

The beautiful and chic Lourmarin is a five-minute drive from the house. It hosts a fabulous market every Friday morning that should not be missed. There is a very large selection of cafes and restaurants to choose from, as well as numerous boutiques and art galleries.

Cucuron, at a two-minute drive, is a lively and scenic village with an Etang (very large stone pond) in the centre shaded by ancient plane trees. This is where their weekly market is held every Tuesday morning. There is a butcher, several bakeries, a small grocery store as well as several restaurants, including the Michelin starred La Petite Maison.

INTERIOR OF THE HOUSE:

The main living space is one large L-shape. The living-room with open fireplace, dining room with farmhouse-style dining table, and kitchen with stone countertops and island all lead out to the southern exposed terrace through four sets of French doors that let in the light and lend a feeling of openness to the space.

Our family loves to cook, so the kitchen is fully equipped with everything one needs to prepare a memorable meal. The stovetop has five gas burners, and the oven is extra large. The fridge is a large American style with ice machine.

There are three bedrooms, and the house comfortably sleeps seven (best suited for four adults and three children). The first bedroom has a king bed (180 cms), the second a large queen (160 cms), and the third a set of bunk beds as well as a couch which can be made into a comfortable double bed, if requested. Each bedroom is equipped with air-conditioning.

There is one bathroom with vanity, soaker tub, rainfall shower and WC between the two double bedrooms. A second bathroom with shower, vanity and WC can be found at the end of the hall outside of the bunk room. A third bathroom with vanity and WC is found off of the office/laundry room at the back of the house. The office/laundry room also houses a full-size washer and dryer.

EXTERIOR:

A large gravel terrace is accessible from the main living area, from which there are views of Mt. St. Victoire as well as stunning sunsets.

There is an outdoor dining set for eight situated under a pergola, a gas Weber BBQ, as well as an additional seating area for relaxing and socializing.

There is a lockable gate at the top of the terrace stairs that lead down to the garden and pool area. The pool is 10x5 metres (32.5x16.5 feet) and has a saltwater filtration system (gentle on the skin and hair) with an automatic rigid cover for extra security. There are pool loungers as well as games for the pool and grass area, such as badminton. The pool is open from June 1st through September 30th unless arrangements are made in advance.

A week of heatwave made this week a disastrous holiday, which we precisely make sure to avoid by choosing air conditionned properties. The problem was recognised and we were offered a bottle of chapagne as compensation as well as reimbursment of the external abritel fees, which is only testimony of underestimation of the dammage caused. The house apart from that is run down as others have noticed and not to the standard for its price. What is not clear from the add is the proximity of the house to the road with some windowns directly on the road so although there are not a lot of cars on this road when they pass it makes a lot of noise and is unpleasant at night. Therefore we strongly discourage renting this property for the air conditioning but also the general state of the house and the bad management if a problem arise during your stay."

The garden stretches out into the landscape with views to the hills beyond, near to the house you have the wonderful 12m x 5m heated pool which looks so inviting. For sun worshippers there are sun loungers along the pool terrace.

To relax away in a shady spot there is a welcoming shaded terrace projecting from the house. Here you will find a wonderful sofa for lunging on and a table and chairs.

A dining terrace accessed from the kitchen is ideal for alfresco dining and also has a gas BBQ for cooking outdoors too.

A stroll amongst the trees will find you a shady hammock slung beneath the branches and plenty of space for little ones to play in safely surrounded by a fence.

You arrive at the house along the county lane and the house has electric gates giving access to ample parking for at least 4 cars.

This family house is located in the village of Lourmarin, officially one of "the most beautiful villages of France". Stepping out of the front door, you will discover narrow streets, typical Provencal architectures, monuments and all the lively social places that give the village its soul.
Accessed from a central but quiet street, this "Maison du Village" will charm you from the minute you step inside the front door. It is a property of contrasts: while it's close to entertainment, it's also away from the crowds; bathed in sun but with plenty of shade; authentic Provence but with modern conveniences; enjoy central social spaces and other intimate areas; open-plan living combined with security; enclosed but not overlooked.
From the street to the gardens, you will feel like you've stepped into another world. On the ground floor, the owners have designed the large terrace at the heart of the property. With a marvellous view overlooking the swimming pool and gardens below, it is this link between the inside and the outside which makes for a convivial atmosphere.
On this main level are the kitchen and the living / dining room, which are nicely sheltered from the summer heat. And in winter you can warm yourself in front of the cozy open fireplace. There is a TV / video as well as high-speed internet (87MB) in all areas of the house. On this floor you will also find a guest WC.
The Provençal-style kitchen has all the necessary utensils, crockery and equipment, including an American-style fridge with built-in ice-maker. You could also enjoy your meals prepared on the "plancha", outside on the terrace, sheltered from the wind and in the shade of large parasols.
Take a secure outdoor staircase down to the enclosed garden level (400m²) to discover the pool and landscaped garden. The pool (8x4m - depth of 1.1m to 1.5m) is perfect for both children and adults so everyone can swim and play with pleasure. Signed "Jacques Brens", you benefit from the quality of finish and the fineness of the pool's marble powder-coating. There is also a large submerged bench facing the sun, with a whirlpool system. Although the pool is not heated, it has sun all day, which means the water will be a pleasant temperature even in the cooler months.
Nearby, there are eight sun loungers and four folding chairs and you can sit in the shade of large umbrellas (2.50x2.50 m) or under cover of the terrace above, and in the shade of the trees in the garden. This outdoor area, which is not overlooked by any neighbours, is perfect for sharing good memories of holidays and having an aperitif with family or friends in privacy and shade at the end of the afternoon (lounge 10/12 pers). An outdoor shower is also at your disposal to refresh you.
The upper level of the house is accessed via wooden stairs, where you will find:
• The main en-suite bedroom (25m²) facing the garden, with has a large double bed (160x200cm) and separate private bathroom with large walk-in shower, washbasin, cupboards and WC
• A second large bedroom (16m²) - facing a street side - has a double bed (140x190cm), a walk-in wardrobe and an adjoining bathroom (shower, washbasin and cupboards)
• The third bedroom (16m²) on the garden side, which has two single beds (90x190cm) that can be assembled on request to form a double bed (180x190cm), and there is a dressing area. The bathroom, with a shower over the bath, cupboards and a double basin, is located on the landing and is for the private use of this room.
All bedrooms are fully renovated and equipped with remote-controlled ceiling fans. There is also a separate WC on this floor.
This property benefits from a private garage that leads directly into the house.There is also a large laundry room where you will find a washing machine, tumble dryer, drying rack, ironing board with steam generator, and consumables.
Strictly no pets and no smoking indoors please. We are obliged to collect a tourist tax of €2.53 per adult per night. This is paid to the local municipality for the enhancement of local tourism and public amenities.

Options:
• There is a fourth bedroom suite of 18m², that has not yet been fully renovated but has been refreshed. It is accessible from the terrace on the ground floor. Overlooking the garden, it has a double bed (140x190), closets, an adjoining bathroom (shower, washbasin and cupboards) and a separate toilet. It is not included in the rental price, but can be made available on request for an additional 15% on top of the weekly rate.
• Additionally, from November to March, you have the option to use just two bedrooms and bathrooms (ie a 20% discount on the full rental price).
• Please note that wood for the fireplace can be provided at a supplementary cost.
• The owners have also engaged the services of a concierge who manages the property and will answer your questions and can provide you with assistance if needed. This concierge also offers other services "on demand", such as helping you with local reservations or outings, the cost of which is not included in this rental.
• A second garage, directly leading into the house and currently uses by the owner for storage, can be made available to guests for an additional fee if necessary, bearing in mind that there is plenty of free public parking nearby.

- "Couldn’t have been happier. Francine and Romy were on hand to help get us settled and give us a primer on the area, which was very welcome. And for the following week, we had a beautiful home-base that allowed us a calm country-side vibe, with a front door opening up into the heart of one of the prettiest towns in the area. Owls at night, patisserie at the end of the street, warm pool, garage (!), excellent water pressure... It’s a long, happy list that boils down to: thank you for letting us spend time in a house that’s obviously a labor of love."

- "Great Place, great vibe about it and in extremely good condition. We spent a week holiday at the end of May there and did as everybody probably thinks of how a Provence holiday should be. Playing boule, eating and drinking and occasionally hiking. Most of the day was spent outdoors around the pool and the house and going for lunch in Lourmarin and the other villages. We were there with 8 adults and 2 young children. Ample of space for everybody. It should be said that there are only 4 double bedrooms, landlords put an extra mattress in one of the bedrooms. The place is in a quiet residential area with neighbors on all 4 sides. This was by no means a negative point as you really dont hear them with thick hedges and ample distance. But should be noted in case the idea is to have proper parties every night (we did not and I doubt the landlords are looking for such guests). Abt 15 minutes by foot to lourmarin town center; bit less on the road, bit more on the more pittoresque country lane. We believe that the House was recently renovated, in a stylish and professional way. All rooms had a different yet thought out styling to them. One of the four bedroom is a semi-detached appartment on the opposite site of the "main-house" connected by the terrance. This would most likely be the quietest of the four bedroom. Aircon is in every bedroom and available in the living areas. The Kitchen had everything you could ask for including a wine fridge. Everything was in excellent condition"
