- "My friend and I spent 11 wonderful nights at the "maison" and couldn't be more pleased. The house was spacious, well appointed and the location was exceptional! An easy 10 minute walk to town. The location is in a very quiet, country type setting. Perfect for evening walks. The house was well equipped - we only needed groceries. There is a small but well stocked grocery/deli store right at the entrance of town within the 10 minute walk. The hosts were very gracious in stocking the kitchen with salt, pepper, olive oil, herbs de Provence and balsamic vinegar. Even a starter supply of instant coffee and tea. A nice touch was a welcome gift of Provence cookies and a bottle of rose - my favorite wine now. One drawback was the second bedroom which is located in a former entryway. There was only a curtain, no door, that separated the little room from the hallway. And no place to put a suitcase, but we made it work. We certainly liked the fact that the bathroom was separate from the spacious shower room. Enjoyed the covered patio area for dining and relaxing in the comfortable lounge chairs. Perfect for sunbathing and reading. The backyard could use a little TLC - a bit of a limited view of the next door vineyard. Overall this was a very enjoyable stay and experience. We will be back next year. We loved our "maison.""

THE LOCATION:

Our house, ‘LES GENETS’, sits on the western edge of the medieval village of VAUGINES, nestled between the villages of LOURMARIN (5 kms or 3.1 miles) and CUCURON (3 kms or 1.8 miles).

The house is 150 square metres and sits on a 630 square metre south-facing lot in the upper western end of the village. The land directly to the south/southwest of the property is agricultural and undeveloped, which provides a lovely, unobstructed view.

Vaugines is situated on the southern side of the Luberon Regional Park and is an ideal base for exploring the many diverse regions that Provence has to offer. Being centrally located makes for easy day trips to Aix-en-Provence, St. Remy, Avignon, the Mediterranean, not to mention all of the wonderfully charming and unique villages of both the south and north Luberon, many of which are listed among France's 'Les Plus Beaux Villages de France'. Vaugines is a tranquil environment to return home to after a day of touring and crowds. The house is less than a five-minute walk to the village square. There is an excellent gastronomic restaurant, a cafe/pizzeria, as well as a small epicerie that sells freshly baked breads, croissants and pastries.

The beautiful and chic Lourmarin is a five-minute drive from the house. It hosts a fabulous market every Friday morning that should not be missed. There is a very large selection of cafes and restaurants to choose from, as well as numerous boutiques and art galleries.

Cucuron, at a two-minute drive, is a lively and scenic village with an Etang (very large stone pond) in the centre shaded by ancient plane trees. This is where their weekly market is held every Tuesday morning. INTERIOR OF THE HOUSE:

The main living space is one large L-shape. The living-room with open fireplace, dining room with farmhouse-style dining table, and kitchen with stone countertops and island all lead out to the southern exposed terrace through four sets of French doors that let in the light and lend a feeling of openness to the space.

Our family loves to cook, so the kitchen is fully equipped with everything one needs to prepare a memorable meal. The stovetop has five gas burners, and the oven is extra large. The fridge is a large American style with ice machine.

There are three bedrooms, and the house comfortably sleeps seven (best suited for four adults and three children). The first bedroom has a king bed (180 cms), the second a large queen (160 cms), and the third a set of bunk beds as well as a couch which can be made into a comfortable double bed, if requested. Each bedroom is equipped with air-conditioning.

There is one bathroom with vanity, soaker tub, rainfall shower and WC between the two double bedrooms. A second bathroom with shower, vanity and WC can be found at the end of the hall outside of the bunk room. A third bathroom with vanity and WC is found off of the office/laundry room at the back of the house. The office/laundry room also houses a full-size washer and dryer.

EXTERIOR:

A large gravel terrace is accessible from the main living area, from which there are views of Mt. St. Victoire as well as stunning sunsets.

There is an outdoor dining set for eight situated under a pergola, a gas Weber BBQ, as well as an additional seating area for relaxing and socializing.

There is a lockable gate at the top of the terrace stairs that lead down to the garden and pool area. The pool is 10x5 metres (32.5x16.5 feet) and has a saltwater filtration system (gentle on the skin and hair) with an automatic rigid cover for extra security. A week of heatwave made this week a disastrous holiday, which we precisely make sure to avoid by choosing air conditionned properties. The problem was recognised and we were offered a bottle of chapagne as compensation as well as reimbursment of the external abritel fees, which is only testimony of underestimation of the dammage caused. The house apart from that is run down as others have noticed and not to the standard for its price. What is not clear from the add is the proximity of the house to the road with some windowns directly on the road so although there are not a lot of cars on this road when they pass it makes a lot of noise and is unpleasant at night. Therefore we strongly discourage renting this property for the air conditioning but also the general state of the house and the bad management if a problem arise during your stay."

Lourmarin is central to many other beautiful villages. The home is large, clean and has a large verandah and garden and has all facilities to make your stay comfortable and secure. The bedrooms have air conditioning, but the whole house was cool and fresh - even during the heatwave. The pool is excellent and very clean and can be lit at night. We used the BBQ and played 'Petanque' in the area in the garden. We had a great relaxing time would love to come back!!"

The 4 bedroom house has a large garden with a heated pool and shaded terrace for relaxing. The house inside has an open plan layout on the ground floor with 2 bedrooms and a further 2 air-conditioned bedrooms on the 1st floor.

The house is designed to make the most of it indoor and outdoor spaces with plenty of access to the garden and letting light and fresh air stream in.

- Bedroom 4 is the largest with a 180cm bed, patio doors open to a Juliet balcony overlooking the garden, pool, and countryside. There is a comfy sofa, and a bathing area with a free-standing roll-top bath, walk in shower and a sink. In the corridor outside there is a separate w.c which serves this room.

The garden stretches out into the landscape with views to the hills beyond, near to the house you have the wonderful 12m x 5m heated pool which looks so inviting. For sun worshippers there are sun loungers along the pool terrace.

To relax away in a shady spot there is a welcoming shaded terrace projecting from the house. Here you will find a wonderful sofa for lunging on and a table and chairs.

A dining terrace accessed from the kitchen is ideal for alfresco dining and also has a gas BBQ for cooking outdoors too.

A stroll amongst the trees will find you a shady hammock slung beneath the branches and plenty of space for little ones to play in safely surrounded by a fence.

You arrive at the house along the county lane and the house has electric gates giving access to ample parking for at least 4 cars.

This is not helped by the fact that google maps places the house much closer than it is in reality (not the owner's fault obviously) but this also means that it is similarly mislocated on VRBO's map which probably feeds from google. Nonetheless, I can wholeheartedly recommend a stay in this house."
