Your Private space (3000sq feet) is a bright and spacious second level unit in a two unit house. You will have access through the Private Entrance up the stairs on the back side of the house. We are Located in a gated community just minutes from several of the island's most beautiful beaches and El Yunque Rainforest.

*The other unit is downstairs and smaller, accommodating up to 4 ppl, it is called "Garden Hideaway". It is available for whole house rentals sleeping up to 14 people.

Come live on "Island Time" with fun coastal décor and ocean views. Be enchanted by the song of the Coqui while you relax on the balcony on the porch swing, or lounging in the Adirondack chairs. A peaceful and fun trip for the whole family!

When inside you will find a ton of space for everyone with two large bedrooms both having King size beds, a fun and unique built in bunk room with 4 twin beds. There is an extra large living area and dining area combined equipped with a large television, a game table, a pool table and a long family dining table. And as you enter the living space you will see the large kitchen to your left with a large island for gathering and cooking and lots of storage space, and two sinks.

Then head outside and enjoy the large wrap around balcony with beautiful views of the neighborhood and peak-a-boo views of Luquillo and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. Listen to the sounds of the rain forest, like some Endemic Birds (found only in Puerto Rico) and the song of the Coqui. There are also some free roaming chickens and roosters as well as the neighbors flock. You may also see some local Iguana's and the neighborhood cats roaming about.

- "We really enjoyed our stay at Carlos' property and Luquillo itself. The location is right in the center of town. We could walk to multiple restaurants and the beach was just a couple blocks away. Every evening there was music in nearby bars and spilling out into the streets. The property has been lovingly restored. Carlos explained that it had been his grandparents' grocery store and had fallen into disrepair before he restored it. Everything was clean and brand new, including very comfortable mattresses. . the comfiest mattresses of our travels around Puerto Rico. The bunk bed set up was perfect - leaving the kids plenty of room to move around and sleep comfortably. Carlos was very communicative and gracious. He gave us great recommendations and we enjoyed his stories and the pictures of the property before he restored it."

2. Go for a nice walk at Angelito Trail Head:
Angelito Trail Head is an 11-kilometer-long (6.8-mile) trail located near Luquillo. Take in the fresh natural air as the whole trail is surrounded by woodland and meets a river along the path. Besides the scenic views, the path will eventually lead to a swimming area where you can cool off after walking such a long way.
For those who like to go on adventures with their pooch, you’ll be glad to know that dogs are allowed to accompany you on this journey though they must always be on a leash the entire time.

8. Enjoy the aromatic coffees at Cafecito Rustico
Cafecito Rustico, which literally translates as the Rustic Coffee Shop, does exactly what it says on the tin. This popular cafe, which is located a short way inland from Luquillo (3.5km/2.1m) at Borras, has won plenty of fans for its cozy rustic atmosphere and its aromatic coffees. It also serves a range of sandwiches, wraps, brunch options and tasty dessert treats with which to tempt those taste buds. There are also vegan and vegetarian-friendly options, should you or anyone in your group have particular dietary requirements. And its food was a particular highlight among past diners, with customers praising not only its menu but also its customer service and value.

9. Experience the palm-lined waters of Luquillo Beach
Luquillo is famed for having some of the finest beaches in Puerto Rico, and Luquillo Beach is a classic example - boasting blue waters and palm-lined sands that look like they’ve stepped straight out of a postcard. This section of the beach, which is also known as Monserrate Beach, is home to ample parking facilities (for a small fee) - making it easy to get to and from the sands, should your accommodation options be a little further afield. It is also home to a range of camping areas, and it includes a section that provides assistance for those beachgoers with disabilities. Little wonder that the beach enjoys glowing word-of-mouth among past visitors, who hailed its beauty, calm vibe and views of the mountains and rainforest.
10. Take in a waterfall marvel at Las Paylas

An outdoor marvel of the local area, Las Paylas has won legions of fans for the beauty of its waterfalls and the natural water slides that have formed in the river through erosion action - which has polished the rock glass smooth in places. This makes it a unique experience for visitors, though anyone who hunts for this hidden “magical” place should bear this slipperiness in mind. It can be treacherous so shoes or other equipment which give you added grip would be a wise investment. Naturally, you should also take care in the water as well. If you do pay it a visit though, you’ll be in good company - many tourists have visited the site and it enjoys excellent word-of-mouth as a memorable destination.

Enjoy a unique stay in the humble barrio of Fortuna, a hillside community of mostly local Puerto Ricans (Luquillenses) who enjoy living simply, growing platanos, raising chickens, riding horses, walking to the beach, beautiful sunsets, and lovely views of the nearby beach and El Yunque.
We have a cozy and functional apt that guests can use to retreat, lay back and/or use as a jumping off point to enjoy the nearby sites. The apt is simple, clean, comfortable, and doesn't have AC or hot water.

The space
Accessing the Apt:
The apt has 2 entry points, one through the front carport and the other from the back patio.

More about the Space:
The apt is on the 1st floor of a two-story concrete house and gets plenty of natural light. It is currently furnished with the basics as seen in the pictures. The backdoor opens into a patio area and wonderful views of the valley and the famous El Yunque rainforest. The apt does not have AC but is equipped with fans. The weather is generally comfortable throughout the year, though the summer months can be challenging during the heat of the day. The nights are cool even in the summer and the fans are enough to sleep comfortably through the night.

Bedroom - Includes a comfy memory foam full bed, armoire, table/desk and wall-mounted fan.

Kitchen - Includes a portable cooktop, compact fridge, microwave, coffee press, utensils, dishes, cups and glasses, pots/pans, coffee/tea and salt/pepper/sugar/oil. The kitchen does not have an oven or gas stovetop.

Living/Dining Room - Includes a smart TV where guests can access entertainment through their individual subscriptions. The space also includes a loveseat, coffee table, dining table, and a couple of chairs.

Bathroom - Guests will be provided w/ soap and shampoo. Each guest will be given bath towels. Extra towels may be available upon request.

Guests are able to park one vehicle on the driveway in front of the house.

Getting Around:
- Guests will have an easy time driving to many places of interest. A car is highly recommended to get to most places (El Yungque hikes, restaurants, grocery store), though it is possible for those adventurous to walk to the beach, the 'Kioskos' restaurants, and a small convenience store.
- Our favorite Luquillo Beach and the famous Kioskos are a 5-minute drive or 15-20 min walk downhill.
- Uber service is readily available during the day.
- 45 min drive to San Juan
- 20 min drive to Fajardo
- 20 min drive to El Yunque
- 30 min drive to Ceibe Ferry Terminal (launching point for Culebra and Vieques islands)

Washer:
Guests can use the owner's washing machine located in the second floor porch, upon request. Clothes lines are available on first and second floors (no dryer)

Other things to note
Food Forest - Last year we started a food forest in the 1/4-acre backyard. We've planted more than 100 species, many young fruit trees and vegetables, and are continually seeding and planting more. We hope to have more food sovereignty and share with neighbors. You will find us in the food forest most mornings and evenings weeding, mulching, pruning, harvesting, and basking in the beauty of nature. You are free to walk around or ask for a tour!

Walking Around and to the Beach - Those fit and agile can walk downhill to the beach (Fortuna Beach) in 10-15 minutes, then onward to other beaches. The house is on a hill- great views but difficult walk back uphill from the beach.

Simple Living (no AC or hot water!) - We are a couple in their mid-30s without kids, and we enjoy cultivating a simple lifestyle. This includes an intentional choice for no hot water or air conditioning. We are always aiming at challenging wants versus needs, maintaining a low carbon foot print and minimizing waste, and trying to contribute towards a better and equitable community.

Water Pressure - Water pressure may fluctuate (as we are at the top of the hill, and there are high-demand times) and we automatically use a backup tank to support when needed.

Quiet Hours - Sound travels easily, particularly as windows are kept open, and you may at times hear us or the neighbors briefly. We keep this in mind to be thoughtful and practice quiet hours between 9pm and 8am.

Blackouts - Please be aware that electricity black-outs are somewhat common throughout PR, though it seems that things have improved in the last year.

Insects - Insects are a normal part of life in the tropics and this space is no exception. The apt is cleaned before each reservation and it is normal to still cross paths with an ant or other insect here or there.

Beaches & Activities galore within driving distance. 2nd story studio. 7 min to the famous Kioskos de Luquillo beach. Tons of beachfront food kiosks & shops. Bask in the sun or surf away @ Playa Azul & Playa La Pared 5min. El Yunque National Rainforest's trails, rivers & refreshing waterfalls 15 min. Hacienda Carabalí is 10 mins away, offering Zip Lines, ATV tours, Go-Carts, Beachfront Horseback Riding and the must try restaurant, Carabalí Bar & Grill host suggestion-try the Mofongo w/Churrasco!
