Over 500 years old, Casa Spello is a newly renovated medieval property, located in the historic center of Spello, a hillside village with a rich history which predates Roman times. The property, nestled within the ancient city walls, boasts one of the most panoramic views in all of Spello; on a clear day, you can see the church towers of Assisi, Perugia, Montefalco, Foligno and the rolling hills covered in olive groves and vineyards which surround Spello. Our large garden/orchard, surrounded by an 1800 year old Roman wall, is an ideal setting for al fresco dining, sunset watching over a glass of Montefalco wine, or sipping coffee before the day's adventures.

The property is over 500 years old, restored by a local architect to provide it with all the modern amenities, while preserving its genuine medieval ambiance. It once was a home with two large 'cantinas' (cellars) where the family used to make wine and press their olive oil. It is now available for rent on a short-term or long-term basis.

Originally it was built with hand carved mountain stone - a beautiful peach color stone which came from the nearby Subasio Mountain.

The apartment is elegantly furnished with antique-style and rustic furnishings, and has a fully equipped kitchen for your cooking pleasure. There is also a fireplace. The accommodation itself (flat 1 Augustus) is a very spacious apartment on 2 levels, with an entrance hall, toilet, kitchen, living room and then on an upper floor a bedroom and bathroom. The rooms were all spacious, and, as the flat is part of a historic building, they were really characterful with lots of exposed stonework. That said, they were well-furnished and surprisingly light and airy considering the age of the building. The apartment has a small balcony which is accessible from outside and from the kitchen, and which was big enough for a seat and a table and 2 chairs, so bigger than we expected and lovely to sit out at. There was air con but we didn't need it, as we found the rooms cool enough with the use of the fan in the kitchen and bedroom. The WiFi was very fast which is a bonus! The flat is obviously where the owner stays when she visits, as there is her stuff in some of the cupboards. The location of the apartment is fantastic, right in the historic heart of Spello, which is an absolutely lovely medieval town in a great location in central Umbria. The location in the town was quiet yet only a few minutes’ walk into the town centre. There are lots of really great restaurants in the town: we ate at 6 different ones and there were others we didn't try. All were good and none were expensive. The owner Gina was very easy to contact, and the local property manager Nadia was also very pleasant and available on WhatsApp, so communication was fine although we didn't need any help during our stay. The town and the location are simply unbeatable, and the accommodation is quality. Really very very good. If we were to criticise anything we would say that (a) the accommodation is a walk uphill from the nearest car park, so not suitable for anyone with mobility problems (b) the mozzies are murderous but luckily there are insect screens in the flat (c) the flat does suffer a bit from road noise as the main dual carriageway road between Spoleto and Assissi passes at the bottom of the hill (the town is on a hill) and some traffic noise does drift up, so it is not silent when sitting outside. That said, the road makes the location great for accessing the rest of Umbria and even Tuscany. There is a large garden but we hardly used it, as we found the balcony enough for our needs. So, overall, spellbinding! We loved it"

Reasonably well equipped, though the oven was not working, there was a hob and microwave. The bathroom is tiny with 2 very deep steps up to it, useful to know if anyone has mobility issues. My husband managed but it was not easy. The railway station and supermarket are about a 15 minute walk away, downhill going, uphill coming back! The apartment is a very nice two-room apartment, perfect for a couple who wants to spend a quiet holiday of wellness and rest, entering we find ourselves in the living area with table and kitchen equipped with all necessary equipment, the double bedroom is large and comfortable and finally we have a bathroom.
The swimming pool is available to guests at no additional cost, open from May to October.

The house was built in 2006, over the remains and in the style of a historical farm and a 5x10 mt (16x32 feet) pool was added in 2018. At only 50 meters from the medieval walls of the town, it stands at the Center of an estate featuring aged oaks, walnut trees, olive trees, and fruit orchards. This property is a portion of a beautiful Villa in Todi (Umbria). The house was built in 2006, over the remains and in the style of a historical farm. The pool was added in 2018. Only 50 meters from the medieval walls of the town. It stands at the Center of an estate featuring aged oaks, walnut trees, olive trees, and fruit orchards.
The Villa is composed of two fully independent apartments which can both be rented during the whole year!!
The space in front of the entry door in the garden can be used for dining or relaxing. The 2 bedrooms on the first floor have a spectacular view of the Umbrian Hills.

Peaceful and secluded, the house is very conveniently located near the historic center of Todi. It provides the ideal location for day-trips to places of very high artistic, historical, natural and religious interest. In less than one hour drive guests can reach Orvieto, Perugia, Spoleto, Assisi (St. Francis), Spello, Cortona, Trevi, Lake Trasimeno, the Carsulae Roman Ruins, Arezzo (Piero della Francesca Frescoes), Norcia, Cascia and many other Umbrian and Southern Tuscan Towns (Siena is 90 minutes by car, Florence and Rome are 2 hours ). Also within one hour drive there are exceptional naturalistic sites such as “Cascata delle Marmore” (the largest waterfalls in Italy), Monti Sibillini and several natural parks.

The city is a centre of cultural delights, in particular it hosts the Festival dei Due Mondi each summer. Regional Umbrian food is delicious and every restaurant prides itself on serving simple, fresh, typical dishes. Truffles, asparagus, peccorino cheese, local salamis and many varieties of pasta, not to mention the local wines, all are worth sampling. More than once!

Spoleto: Spoleto has been inhabited since early Roman time but today it appears essentially a mediaeval city. It flourished also as one of the Papal States and the Pope often resided in the Rocca Albornoziana at the summit of the city. Worth seeing as you walk around are The Arch of Drusus (23 A.D.) to be found near the Romanic church of St. Ansano , the Roman theatre, whose construction goes back to the first years of the Empire, and the Paleo Christian basilica St. Salvatore of the 4th century (at about 1.2 km distance to the north).
In the lower part of the city hunt out the church St.Gregorio Maggiore,(12th century), characterized by its evocative apsis zone and by the elevated presbytery, a Roman bridge (also called 'the Bloody') consisting of three arches in travertine stone blocks and the amphitheatre of the 2nd century A.D.
The duomo has stunning frescoes by Lippi and there are many delightful piazzas and winding streets to discover.

Monteluco: The sacred mountain of Monteluco has been considered a holy place since Roman times and then the Benedictines established a monastery near the summit and this provided hospitality for Franciscans and other pilgrims. Syrian monks also came here for meditation and prayer.
It is covered entirely with oaks and is now linked to Spoleto by a 13th century aqueduct. There are many walking trails to explore and the views are stunning.
At the base of the mountain is San Pietro's church built in the early 5th century and this can be seen from the apartment.

Umbria: Umbria is not as well known as neighbouring Tuscany and is consequently not full of foreign tourists. However, the discovery process is beginning and news of the delights are spreading. Towns like, Perugia, Assisi, Spello, Bevagna, Montefalco, Todi, Orvieto and Norcia are all worth visiting. Wine tasting at wineries in the area around Montefalco, walking in the many olive grove mountain paths, discovering the delicious regional menus and the slow pace of life are all highly recommended.

The bedroom area can be closed off from the living room area. It has a small porch with a wonderful view. It is conveniently located very close to a grocery store. We arrived with 2 cars and there are 2 free parking spaces right at the front door of the apartment.
