The room was beautiful and clean and the towels were so soft! The bed was very comfortable and the jacuzzi tub was big enough for two with room to spare! The breakfasts were absolutely delicious and he even incorporated some local fare into the meal and we went out and purchased the preserves and fruit butters that we’d tried. - "As I had found that this property was once owned by my 3X great granduncles I was fascinated by the history and walked in their footsteps. As I descended the original, narrow stairs with the low hand rails I imagined the original women in their high button shoes and hoop skirts more gracefully than me maneuvering them daily. It was a pleasant step back in time with it's antique atmosphere and original structure. It was my 48th wedding anniversary and staying at a family home made it even more special. Cheese, crackers, wine, dark chocolate and chocolate chip cookies greeted us. The following days breakfast was excellent. I was very pleased that the current proprietor would listen to my history and share what he knew. It was once owned as a family venture, bakery/general store/boarding house and is again being well taken care of by another family. When I return to do further research I will again stay there and check out the ghost that will not let the basement door stay closed. - "We stayed at the Federal House for only a couple of days, just a quick get away. The room was more spacious than we thought and very comfortable. If there was anything you needed or forgot, they had it. We love history and we were quite charmed by the home. Simple to get to and only a block off Main St, close to shops, restaurants and historical spots if they are an interest. The breakfast each morning was fabulous and there were several options. We chose to have it in our suite and it was there each morning promptly. We did not get to do as much as we would have liked due to the heat, so we will definitely return. I could not imagine staying elsewhere as this is one of the best places we’ve ever stayed. Kate, the host, was communicating with us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. She also made some great suggestions for dining there. Looking forward to going back when it’s a bit cooler. Loved it!!"

The Dunleith House is located in East Dubuque, Illinois. A few minutes away we have several marinas, restaurants, casinos, and the Mississippi river museum. Galena is just 11 miles away with alot of fun things to do. We are also located right in between 2 ski resorts. Less than 10 minutes from Sundown and 20 minutes to Chestnut ski/ Snowboard. This is a perfect place to stay for a ski trip. We have some neat fireplaces to warm up at the end of the day. Bonfire, and grill area, as well.
