This time we were assigned the ‘Kingfisher’ room which is nice, but the ‘Sparrow’ was much nicer. The shower in Kingfisher was in need of renovation as the tiles were misaligned and the shower head was not the modern rain style which we experienced in Sparrow. During our stay unfortunately there was a major thunderstorm and all power in the area was out for 4 hours, but each room had a decent battery torch. This is a full one bedroom unit, with bedroom, full bathroom, and open plan living/kitchen space. There is a designated workspace, breakfast nook and private entrance. You will love how spacious, bright and airy the place is, looking out over our pool area.

Other things to note
The guest parking has one spot per unit, but there is additional parking around the front of the house. This parking is also easier to use should you not feel comfortable with reversing out the guest driveway again. We are quite close to the N3 which is very convenient! But it does bring a bit of distant traffic noise which can be heard with the windows open. The majority of our guests don’t even notice but if you are a light sleeper do bear that in mind.

This stand-alone garden cottage is located in the quiet, monitored suburb of Clarendon. It consists of two en suite bedrooms one with bath, a lounge and a separate kitchen/diner. There is off-street, under-cover parking connected to the cottage. You will have the space to yourself, and only share it with those you are travelling with. We are 4 km from the city hall and 2 km from a shopping centre. As your hosts, we respect your privacy, but should you need us, we are available.

This tastefully decorated cottage is in its own private, gated space with garden furniture, Weber and umbrella. Each bedroom has one bed (currently, a queen and a double). Linen is 100% cotton. Wardrobe with hanging space and shelves available for each bedroom. The host was involved in setting up these trails and the maintenance of the reserve, and will happily tell you about them. For those sports enthusiasts who canoe, run the comrades, Edendale or Mandela marathons, trail run, mountain bike or swim the Midmar mile, the start of these events are all within easy reach. So too are Maritzburg College, Maritzburg Girls High, Merchiston, Epworth and St John's schools. The city itself also represents a uniquely South African mix of influences, and both the Drakensburg Mountains and the Sea are about an Hours drive.

Please note there is a large dog on the premises. Our dog is very friendly but can be energetic and seem a handful if you aren't confident/comfortable with dogs.

And finally, the cottage is best for three adults. It can take 4 adults at a push for a night, but it is ideally suited for a family of 4, and there is space for a camp cot for an infant.

Just some things to note:


1. If you are an individual traveler then the rate per room applies, however, if you are travelling as a couple then you need to add an extra guest to your booking. Click on "add extra guest", as the room price is for an individual
2. Rooms can accommodate 2 individuals (and a camping cot if needed, we do have one available), but if you are more than 2 guests (excluding an infant) then another room needs to be added. If you are NOT wanting to share rooms then a room per person needs to be booked, this will be a full price tariff per room.
3. A special request needs to be made to book the entire house, else please note that there may be other guests booked into the other rooms during your stay.
4. All our bathrooms have showers only, and only 1 of our rooms have a bath & shower combination. If you require a bath please advise and we will book accordingly.
5. Strict Covid rules do apply, and sanitisers are available throughout the house, with temperature checks on arrival.
6. A caretaker lives on the property for all your questions and letting you into the house.
7. Check in times are after 2pm, or a luggage drop off after 12pm. Check out times are between 10-12pm depending on the bookings (10am out of the room for cleaning).
8. There is a pool with a pool cover.
9. We have a strict noise policy within reason to favour other guests and neighbours, if you are wanting a loud party then please consider another venue.
10. In the instance of a power failure there is a generator, however, sometimes the WIFI is poor in this instance.
11. If you are travelling as a family and want rooms next to one another please advise. We normally allocate the Turquoise Room to a family as it has the bath available for young children.
12. We do have a resident cat (Twinkle), please let us know if this is an issue.

1. If you are an individual traveler then the rate per room applies, however, if you are travelling as a couple then you need to add an extra guest to your booking. Click on "add extra guest", as the room price is for an individual
2. Rooms can accommodate 2 individuals (and a camping cot if needed, we do have one available), but if you are more than 2 guests (excluding an infant) then another room needs to be added. If you are NOT wanting to share rooms then a room per person needs to be booked, this will be a full price tariff per room.
3. A special request needs to be made to book the entire house, else please note that there may be other guests booked into the other rooms during your stay.
4. All our bathrooms have showers only, and only 1 of our rooms have a bath & shower combination. If you require a bath please advise and we will book accordingly.
5. Strict Covid rules do apply, and sanitisers are available throughout the house, with temperature checks on arrival.
6. A caretaker lives on the property for all your questions and letting you into the house.
7. Check in times are after 2pm, or a luggage drop off after 12pm. Check out times are between 10-12pm depending on the bookings (10am out of the room for cleaning).
8. There is a pool with a pool cover.
9. We have a strict noise policy within reason to favour other guests and neighbours, if you are wanting a loud party then please consider another venue.
10. In the instance of a power failure there is a generator, however, sometimes the WIFI is poor in this instance.
11. If you are travelling as a family and want rooms next to one another please advise. We normally allocate the Turquoise Room to a family as it has the bath available for young children.
12. We do have a resident cat (Twinkle), please let us know if this is an issue.
