Guest Reviews:

- "My husband and I decided that we just wanted to go on a vacation where we could disconnect and do some writing every day. So we picked Vermont and to stay on this farm, and it was a nice vibe! We enjoyed watching the chickens and goats. The house itself felt pretty spacious. It was hot (went early July), but we mostly wrote in the morning, and decided to leave the house most afternoons to go to nearby Bennington or other small-town attractions, so we avoided the worst of the humidity and heat most days (there's only one window unit air conditioner in the downstairs bedroom). We had trouble with the washer, but it wasn't a big deal, and Susan helped us resolve the issue during our stay. Enjoyed falling asleep to the sounds of the small waterfall feeding the pond in the backyard at night. Overall, it's good if you want an escape from any hustle and bustle."

Log Cabin In The Woods
Cabin
Sandgate, Vermont, USA

Our cabin is on 11 acres, and we have only one neighbor in the summer only. The cabin is on the side of a private mountain at 1300 feet elevation so there is an entire mountain to hike or snowshoe(all sizes available for your use). Our porch overlooks a brook that passes right by the house. Because it is remote, cell phone service is spotty at the cabin, but you can use WIFI calling or the land line, we stream TV and have a ROKU and smart TV if you have Netflix/Amazon Prime/HULU etc. subscriptions. WiFi is good unless you are streaming and on phones and computers at the same time. There are sleds , snow shoes and snow tubes as well.

The Cabin is 10 minutes from Great Sugar Houses (Maple Syrup Weekend end of March), and Artisan and Dairy Farms (There is a Vermont cheese weekend and the dairy farms give tours). In 20 minutes you can get to Manchester (18 miles), Bromley Mountain is 25 miles, The Norman Rockwell Homestead in Arlington and another terrific general store are about 15-20 minutes away. In Dorset there is a great marble quarry for swimming; about 15-20 minutes.

Saratoga Springs is about 35-40 miles and the drive is not bad if you want to see the horse races or go to the mineral baths.

There are all types of board games and a pool table in the lower level. There is also a laundry room in the lower Level.

The kitchen is fully applianced right down to coffee grinder and garlic press.

Bedroom on the main level has a queen bed, the Lower Level bedroom has two twins and the upstairs bedrooms have 4 twins in each but comfortably sleep two adults in each. Because we are on the side of a mountain, the lower level is a walk out and bedroom has a window.

Our driveway is long and steep, so we recommend an AWD vehicle in the winter months.

We are sure you will enjoy the cabin as much as we do.

- "A wonderful cabin, peaceful and relaxing" - "Steven , the cabin and property were all great. We learned a lot about the region on this trip. If not from around the area do some research for the area. Map/atlas would be useful. The phone service for trying to do anything spontaneous on the move including eating out was frustrating." - "So enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The screened in porch was very relaxing. The cabin was stocked with everything we needed & the beds were very comfortable .The location is great for visits to NY & beautiful small towns in Vermont."

- "We spent our Xmas week at this Dorset gem and loved every minute. The owners were very nice and supportive. They even had a 10 Ft. Christmas tree for us to enjoy. Kitchen is huge, has wonderful appliances and tons of utensils etc. Property is secluded and peaceful. We highly recommend this home." - "Our stay at the Headwaters in Dorset Hollow couldn’t have been better! The home is beautiful and situated on a wonderful, private, secluded location at the base of Dorsey Mountain. The hosts (Brad, Esther, and Ira) were tremendously gracious and accommodating, helping us to add our dog to our trip when I forgot to add him initially. They were also excellent communicators, sharing their wealth of local knowledge so we had a wide variety of activities to choose from during our stay. I’ve been a regular visitor to VT for 25 years but this was my wife and kids’ first visit and they loved every second! From hiking Dorset Mountain, swimming at the quarry, bluegrass festival at Hunter Park, outstanding dining and shops Dorset and nearby Manchester, day trips to Killington, and evenings by the fire, this vacation had it all. Highly recommend staying here at Headwaters or any of Brad, Esther, and Ira’s properties."

The loft was very roomy, and the kitchen was big enough for us to comfortably cook all our meals. My favorite spot was the deck." - "Great location, lovely clean home. My only suggestion is that it would be nice to have a place to put clothing rather than living out of a suitcase for a week. Owner very responsive and left clear instructions for everything. "

We cannot wait to come back and the attention to detail was unmatched!" - "Everything was A+, from start to finish." - "The property was immaculate and all the extra little touches were so nice. It really made our trip comfortable and cozy. We got 36 inches of snow while we were there but were not snowed in at all. The owners made sure that we were plowed out and checked in regularly to see if we needed anything. We enjoyed a lot of family time together playing in the snow. The well equipped kitchen let us make cozy meals at home together and we were still able to get out for meals in town as well. We highly recommend this cabin in the woods!"

- "We had such a great stay at the Owl's Nest- the cabin is amazing; so bright, cheery, comfy, and cozy. The cabin has so many great touches; from the cool artwork, and the record collection, to the loft and the outdoor shower! We also love this area and had a great time hiking, swimming, and exploring." - "We absolutely loved our stay at the Owl's Nest! The location was great. It was under a 35 minute drive to Stratton, passing Bromley on the way. The owners do note but maybe don't emphasize enough the need for all wheel drive/4WD in the winter. The long hilly driveway did get plowed but not sand or salt. The cabin was warm & cozy with comfy beds and an amazing shower. We made fires, streamed movies (on tv in living room, no wifi issues) listened to records (& sonos), made popcorn, cooked dinners in the roomy kitchen and hiked the trail behind the house. Don't miss stopping at the charming JJ Hapgood General Store for coffee/pastries, sandwiches or gourmet food staples. Thank you Will & Sarah!"

- "Beautiful, relaxing, amazing property!" - "Great family retreat, the grounds are magical" - "This was a beautiful property - much larger than the pictures would make it seem. The backyard was great, with an awesome creek to dip our feet in. It's in a rather remote area which was nice and peaceful, but an easy drive to Manchester. Loved it!" - "Great yard and deck. The river was cool and plenty of bathrooms" - "This was a truly amazing setting for our very large gathering... The property is beautiful & secluded, and the nearby river (to our delighted surprise) somehow became the centerpiece of most of our activity during our stay. It's a special place. All bedrooms were well-kept and located away from common areas, meaning any of our guests could catch a break or sleep in peace whenever they wanted to. Each with an ensuite, comfortable beds. The kitchen & dining area were well-equipped and provided ample space for us to prepare & enjoy meals together. We had a number of things we needed to address with the owner, Brenda, prior to our arrival (I'd say we were even a bit "needy"), and she was always very welcoming & accommodating to all of our inquiries. During our stay she made sure to check in on us and was very pleasant to talk to. All-in-all, I am very happy to have made this the venue for our special occasion... Would wholeheartedly recommend!"

Peter, the owner was so easy to work with and provided an easy to use app with useful details from arrival instructions to activity recommendations, and appliance instructions. The cabin was clean and the owner even had a basket of snacks waiting for us on arrival. We loved the fire pit and Mountain View’s and appreciated the quiet neighborhood. We would definitely stay here again! 5 stars all around. Thank you Peter! "

Guest Reviews:

- "Just an amazing place to relax and chill out. Very clean, nicely decorated and extremely comfortable. Short drive to Stratton, so easy to get a day at the mountain in. Host is very accommodating and easy to get in touch with. We stayed here four weekends during the ski season, kids, parents and dog all loved it." - "A great cabin to enjoy VT. Perfect for a weekend at Stratton. Looking forward to staying here again." - "This cabin as depicted is what you will see when you arrive. It's very charming and comfortably appointed and clean. The beds were comfortable. The description says sleeps six but we stayed with two adults and two teenagers and it was teh right size. A larger party would have been tight but I suppose the kids could have shared beds. I have two room for improvements: a sheet pan would have been a nice thing to warm our pizza. The owner kindly recommended a great pizza place - Sam's Wood Fired Pizza and it was outstanding. We needed to warm it when we got to the place and made do with various foil pans etc. But this is minor and for the rest of our meals we had everything we needed, though very basic. The more important thing was the water from the tap which was brown and I'm sure quite fine but we had to go out and buy some plastic bottles. The owner assured me she had it tested multiple times and I am sure she did, but just come prepared and bring some bottle water. I would have appreciated this heads up. Boiling the water didn't change the color. One last thing is the driveay is steep and icy so beware. Overall the stay was excellent and has a lovely fireplace with lots of owner supplied wood and many blankets. This is a great spot for a weekend or 3 nights. Thanks Carmen."

The Vermont Dream Cabin on 70 Acres
Cabin
Shaftsbury

Authentic log cabin on 70 acres+ of Vermont forest with hiking/snowshoe trails, river & mountain stream. Cozy up with wine, games or book by the huge stone woodburning fireplace with fav music from the vintage Bose stereo, enjoy coffee & stargazing on the rocking porch while taking in the mountain views & wildlife or explore the forest & river trails. Enjoy making meals in the ample fully stocked kitchen, the outdoor grill & around the campfire. Crisp AC.*4x4/AWD a MUST for WINTER only BOOKINGS*

The space
**PLEASE NOTE: for winter bookings, you MUST have a 4 wheel drive (AWD) vehicle. We plow and sand regularly, but there are steep inclines that require AWD when snow is on the road, typically late November through March.** During the warm months, any car will do great! We drive a low clearance hybrid car very easily in the summer & fall.

We searched for 7 years to find the perfect place to move to from Colorado, and the moment we saw this cabin, we knew this was it! It is THE dream cabin. It has all of the modern amenities you could want, including crisp summertime AC, cozy heat, and fast WiFi, but with the rustic coziness you dream of for a cabin getaway in the woods.

The bedroom is in the upstairs loft that is open to the main floor. It does not have its own door. It has a very comfy queen mattress. The sofa folds out into a full sized bed.

Our private 70 acres also backs to hundreds of undeveloped acres for abundant hiking and outdoor opportunities. Snow shoeing is a wonderful activities for the trails.

There is a 2nd Airbnb on the property (The Hygge Loft). It shares a driveway with the cabin, but all outdoor spaces are private from each other and no indoor or outdoor living spaces are shared. The host home is also up the hill on the same property. The cabin is on a private and secluded road, yet only 15-20 minutes from one of our favorite restaurants in Hoosick Falls, and 20-35 minutes to many other restaurants, museums, lakes, and fun places to visit in Bennington, Manchester, Arlington, Dorset, and all that the Shires of Vermont has to offer.

Ultra fast fiber optic internet is now installed!. There is usually little to no cell reception on the property, but you may use WIFI calling if your cell phone has that option. There is a large TV and blu-ray/DVD player with Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon apps that you may use your own account with, as well as several local channels. There is NO
cable tv. There are also several board games, DVDs, and books & magazines available for your enjoyment.

The kitchen has both a Keurig and regular coffee maker, as well as lots of kitchen items like muffin tins, baking sheets, and cookware. Keurig coffee, tea, sugar, flour, spices, and condiments are provided.

There is a bathroom with a shower, soap, shampoo and conditioner.

Fresh linens and towels, extra pillows, and cozy blankets are provided. Firewood is also provided, but please try to limit it to 10 logs per day to ensure enough firewood for all guests.

Guest access
The driveway up from the main road is about .6 miles long and uphill to the cabin. The remaining roads to get to the cabin are county-maintained roads with regular plowing and grading. Your hosts plow and sand the remaining driveway.

**PLEASE NOTE: for winter bookings, you must have a 4 wheel drive (AWD) vehicle. We plow and sand regularly, but there are steep inclines that require AWD when snow is on the road.***

There is a circle driveway that leads to the front of the main log cabin. There is a garage across from it. This garage (that looks like a house) is currently for the host's tractor storage & workshop use only, but we are working to convert it into a 2nd Airbnb rental by around mid-August 2021. The cabin will remain very private and separate from this new space.

There is a turnout for overnight parking, or you may park on the circle drive. Please DO NOT move the birch logs that act as a blockade to the walking path. There is underground plumbing there that can be damaged by the weight of cars. Thank you!

The host's home is nearby, just up the hill from the cabin, and we are always happy to help with anything you might need during your stay. In the winter months, the house is visible from the front door of the cabin, but not from any windows in the cabin. It is very private and you will rarely, if ever, see us unless you'd like to meet us or need anything. In the leafy months, the hosts home is almost completely obscured.

Other things to note
4-wheel drive or AWD is a MUST for winter bookings, no exceptions!

If this cabin is booked, please check out our other wonderful cabins by searching for The Hygge Loft in Shaftsbury, VT and The Vermont Dream Chalet in Wilmington, VT! They are both wonderful!

Cleaning products • Hair dryer • Hangers • Body soap • Shampoo • Shower gel • Conditioner • Hot water • Essentials • Mountain view

This 600 square foot cabin is open and filled with natural light. It features a private deck that overlooks the farm and offers a peaceful spot to take in the sunset.

BEDS
There is one private bedroom private room with a queen-sized bed. The small loft nook above the main living area has a full bed (accessible by ladder at your own risk). Optionally we can set up a twin bed in the office, and/or a toddler bed, and the 6 foot couch also works. Let us know which you plan to use so we can get them set up!

WIFI & TV
The cabin has wifi. There is NO cable/live TV nor DVD.

KITCHEN
The kitchen is equipped with a countertop stove and countertop airfryer/toaster oven. Basic cooking utensils, pots, pans and pantry needs are provided. You should have what you need to be able to cook and enjoy your meals.

BATHROOM
The bathroom features a clawfoot tub and shower. It also utilizes a composting toilet. Detailed instructions on use of the toilet are available in the bathroom, but don’t be afraid! It’s odorless and easy to use. Because the cabin uses a greywater system, please refrain from using personal products that are not biodegradable and never put bleach down the drain.

DECK & YARD AREA
There is an attached deck with a small outdoor dining table and chairs where you can enjoy a meal al fresco. We have a propane grill available for use as well. The yard has a fire pit and seating. Yard area is shared with the main house, which is about 50 yards from the cabin.

LOCATION
The Apothecary is located 2 miles down a well-maintained dirt road. Please note, you will lose cell service for part of your drive. It is a 25 minute drive to North Bennington and Bennington where you'll find dining, shops, and groceries, and a 45 minute drive to Manchester where there are designer outlets, recreation, and fine dining. Bromley Mountain is 1 hr away.

Recommended: Snow tires, and/or 4 WHEEL DRIVE/ALL WHEEL DRIVE in Winter
The property is 2 miles down a dirt road and at the top of a hill. We recommend snow tires and 4WD/AWD for reservations between November and April. Our road is plowed and sanded by the town during storms, but we recommend a sure-footed vehicle. Parking for the Apothecary is down a hill and Snow Tires and 4WD/AWD will ensure your ability to drive up and down the hill in the snowy and muddy months. Alternatively, if you are unsure of the conditions and your vehicle, with permission, you can park in the driveway at the top of the hill and walk down to the Apothecary.

Guest access
Guests will have exclusive access to the whole Apothecary and its surrounding yard. We can also direct you to some lovely trail walks throughout the farm.
The Apothecary is a private building with its own parking. It is a comfortable house with modern amenities, but we do want people to expect to hear the sights and sounds of a working farm. You'll occasionally hear children, chickens and all kinds of wildlife as well.

Unique private retreat near fishing and hiking.
Cabin
Sandgate

This uniquely-designed, very private retreat on 100 acres on the edge of the Green Mountain Forest offers a peace and quiet and easy access to the Battenkill, the Green Mountain Forest, and Mount Equinox. Thirty minutes' drive from Manchester, with great shopping and dining.

The space
The cabin is circular -- it's called a "silo house", with the living room, kitchen, and dining area in an open floor plan on the ground floor. The bathroom, a bathtub/shower and washer/drier, is also downstairs. The bedrooms are upstairs, accessed by a long staircase that runs up the length of the back wall. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed (memory foam mattress) and a dresser and closet; the "kids' room" has bunk beds and a small dresser. Another sleeping option is the blue sofa bed downstairs in the living room, which may be preferable to some people because it's nearer to the bathroom. The house was built by hand in 1975, so please expect that it is somewhat rustic, but the kitchen, well, on-demand water heater, washer and drier are all brand-new. We have central heating and also a wood-burning stove in the living room. One strange thing I should note about the place is that the kids' room doesn't have a ceiling -- it just opens up to the high ceiling, so you can hear whatever is happening that room pretty much throughout the cabin. And please note that we do NOT have air-conditioning! There is a ceiling fan and the windows are designed to create cross-currents when opened in the summer. We also provide several portable fans. We have satellite WiFi, the best that we can get in Sandgate, but we must caution that it can be slow at times and is easily affected by storms, etc. If you need absolute reliability for work, we suggest that you drive into Manchester, where there are a number of places to access wifi, including the bookstore and the public library.

Guest access
The whole place is yours!

Other things to note
Please note that cell service is spotty to non-existent in Sandgate. We do have satellite WiFi that is generally reliable for WiFi-based calling and internet access, but it can be spotty or slow when the weather is bad.

Amenities:

Conditioner • Body soap • Hot water • Shower gel • Free washer – In unit • Mountain view • Cleaning products • Bathtub • Shampoo • Hair dryer

The Hygge Loft- mid-mod cabin on 70 forested acres
Cabin
Shaftsbury

The Hygge Loft: a midcentury modern-designed cabin nestled among 70 acres of privately-owned forest with rivers & hiking trails. Enjoy sipping an espresso or wine while listening to vinyl records, cozied up by the wood-burning fireplace. Take a walk in the forest to the river or stargaze by the firepit on the private deck. Indulge in a luxurious bath or snuggle up in the ultra comfy king-size bed with views of treetops and sky all around. It’s the kind of place you’ll never want to leave!

The space
Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) is a Danish word evoking cozy comfort and contentment. We love the high vaulted ceilings, beams, and interesting angles of the 1100 SF loft, the 360° window and skylight views that bring the calming forest scenery right into the space, the modern decor, and the super comfy furniture, bed, and cozy blankets. The beautiful wood-burning fireplace brings cozy warmth and ambiance to the peaceful and lovely space.

There is an espresso machine (Nespresso), as well as a pour-over coffee flask and burr grinder for the coffee aficionado. A lovely guitar is there for playing, and vinyl records for listening. We have provided a fun collection of DVDs and games to enjoy.

The deck has cozy spots for soaking in the outdoors or making fires in the wood-burning fire pit or for grilling out on a gas grill. The bathroom is the epitome of luxury with a generous soaking tub with skylight views and a gorgeous walk-in shower. Creating delicious meals is a delight in the full-sized and well-stocked kitchen with large island, gas stove, fridge, and dishwasher.

There is a 2nd airbnb on the property (the Vermont Dream Cabin) that shares a driveway with the Hygge Loft, but all outdoor and indoor living spaces are completely separate/private from each other. The host home is up the hill from the loft. We strive to provide the utmost in privacy for our guests, but we are also usually very available for any needs you might have during your stay should you need anything.

WIFI: ultra fast fiber optic internet is now here!

Guest access
A 4-wheel or AWD is an absolute MUST in the snowy months, no exceptions. Guests do not make it up the steep driveway in the winter without it. Trust us!! Any car will do in the non-snowy months (we drive a low-clearance Prius just fine).

Other things to note
The privately-owned 70 acre property is also home to the Host's year-round home and the Vermont Dream Cabin Airbnb. We cherish privacy for us and all of our guests and have designed the loft to maximize privacy and a feeling of peaceful serenity. The main outdoor living spaces of both Airbnbs (the Loft’s deck w/ fire pit and the Cabin’s back rocking porch) are not viewable to each other from either Airbnb, and there are privacy top down shades that still allow full views of the treetops and nature without sacrificing indoor privacy.

If this loft is booked, please check out our other wonderful cabins by searching for The Vermont Dream Cabin in Shaftsbury, VT and The Vermont Seasons Getaway in Wilmington, VT! They are both wonderful!
