Set on the shores of the beautiful Bassenthwaite Lake in the Lake District National Park, this small tranquil park, nestled at the foot of the dramatic Skiddaw mountain range, is the perfect relaxing getaway. Enjoy the amazing lake and mountain views, the peaceful surroundings and the extensive birdlife from our homely and cosy lodge.

This spacious lodge offers guests a variety of home comforts, so expect to find comfy beds, modern bathrooms, a cosy fire, a really well-equipped kitchen with a wide range of kitchen equipment and basic larder items, a washer-dryer and dishwasher.

Bird seed is provided so you can enjoy the birdlife; blankets are too, so you can keep warm on a chilly evening while you star gaze from the deck. There are games, DVDS and an X-Box with a variety of games for those rainy evenings in the lodge.

Guests are welcome to bring kayaks, paddle boards and non-motorised boats to explore the clear lake waters or alternatively you can stick to a swim or paddle!

There are endless walks to enjoy in the area, ranging from flatter walks round the lake and through the woods to long days out high up on the fells, many of which are easily accessible from the lodge. There are maps and walking books to help you plan your day out.

There are a great variety of eating and drinking options in the local area, with a lovely old pub in Bassenthwaite serving good food and restaurant bistro at the Manor House, both close to the lodge.

The beautiful new bathrooms are a very good size; one with basin, WC, heated towel rail and bath with shower unit over the bath, and the second with a substantial shower unit, basin, WC and heated towel rail.

You could enjoy breathtaking views while dining alfresco on warm summer days.

There is a useful utility room with washing machine, separate dryer, and a Belfast sink overlooking Derwentwater.

The lodge boasts ample parking. There are several lovely walks immediately on offer from the door, so don’t forget your hiking boots! Or why not bring your mountain bike with you to see even more of this beautiful area (lockable storage available in shed for pedal bikes but no facilities for charging/storing e-bikes).

Castlerigg Hall campsite is nearby where you can purchase basics such as fresh milk, bread and eggs. Fancy a bite to eat? Why not try the cafe at Castlerigg Hall which is open daily from 12-4 for delicious coffee and cakes, and the Heights Hotel Crag Bar 5 minutes down the lane sells vegetarian and vegan-friendly meals every evening from spring-autumn.

Path to walk down into Keswick (about 25 mins); paths to Castlerigg Stone Circle (about 35 minutes), and Walla Crag (about 40 minutes) with spectacular views down to Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite. You may be lucky enough to spot paragliders taking flight!

If you are arriving after 5pm please contact the park office 01768776641 to arrange key collection. Your instructions will be left in the late arrival box at reception door.
You will be required to provide a swipe of your credit or debit card upon arrival as a security deposit. This will be deleted at the end of your stay when your holiday home has been checked.
Hot tub use is strictly from 7am to 10pm only. Please respect other holiday makers and young children - excessive noise will not be tolerated and please be aware that you could run the risk of the tub being turned off. Please note that this applies to hot tub accommodations only.
For group bookings under the age of 25 and same sex parties please contact the park in advance for approval.
Those with pets - please ensure your dog is on a lead at all times whilst in the park.
Hazelnut Lodge is strictly no pets.
The lodge occupancy is for the designated number of beds, this includes infants and children
We have been advised today that the A591 from Keswick to Bassenthwaite will be closed for 26 days between the hours of 8am-4pm.
This means that ALL holiday clients will need to go round the lake if they are arriving for 3pm. Therefore they will need to follow the A66 heading west. At the end of the average speed section you will find a right hand turning for Castle Inn follow signs for Castle Inn.
Go over the bridge at the top of the lake.
At the crossroads with the Castle Inn on your left turn right. Follow the road (passed the garage Skiddaw Service Station (on left ) and after about 300 yards turn right at the crossroads for Scarness.
Follow the road to the T junction and turn right.
The park is approx. 400 yards on your left.

This most probably going to cause mayhem but thought to get the info off to you so that holiday clients are aware.
Please do not charge electric cars at this park, this is becoming a problem with cables being put through windows etc. The park is not insured for this and it is a fire hazard.

Sleeping arrangements are designed with both comfort and flexibility in mind. From 1st March to 15th November, the lodge park are licensed to launch a limited number of boats onto Bassenthwaite Lake. You’re welcome to bring your own boat, canoe, windsurfer, or paddleboard, but please contact the park in advance as access is strictly regulated. Power boats are not permitted on the lake.
Fishing is allowed from the jetty and foreshore from 1st March to 15th November with no additional charge. A valid rod fishing licence is required, available from any Post Office.

Please note that our Canadian Cabin is located on an embankment and so require several steps to be climbed in order to reach them. This may not be suitable for people with limited mobility.

We are situated near Grange village, within the Borrowdale Valley. A fantastic central location for a staycation in the Lake District. With miles of footpaths from our doorstep, adventure awaits!

There is a bus stop 1 mile from our pod, which takes you to Keswick and beyond.

The balcony overlooks Grange Fell in the Lake District and has an outdoor dining table and chairs.

2 minute walk away, the river Derwent flows by, a great wild swim spot!

Guest access
The pod is based in one of our summertime camping fields, you will have the pod exclusively to yourselves during your stay. There is a private balcony outside your pod and plenty of parking space 100m away. You are welcome to enjoy the surrounding woodlands from your pod, there are many footpaths to explore, wild swim spots nearby and beautiful Lake District views from your doorstep :)

Other things to note
High Spy is in a remote location, there is a partly unpaved pebble track to get to the parking place, there is also a 100m walk to the pod. Please be prepared to carry your belongings from your car to your pod.

High Spy is in a rural area so if you arrive in the dark, bring a headtorch so you can find your way. There is no WiFi and limited cell service in the area, a great chance to get back to nature :)

The space

After a busy day exploring, the living room with comfortable leather seating makes the perfect place to come back and relax with a cup of tea, or catch up with your favourite shows on the wall-mounted Smart TV.

There are 3 modern attractive bedrooms, all with zip & link beds, which provides flexibility to suit different group requirements. The master bedroom can be super king or standard twin, and the two other bedrooms can be king size or compact twin. All bedrooms have new high-quality mattresses, luxury white bed linen and towels.

The beautiful new bathrooms are a very good size; one with basin, WC, heated towel rail and bath with shower unit over the bath, and the second with a substantial shower unit, basin, WC and heated towel rail.

You could enjoy breathtaking views while dining alfresco on warm summer days.

There is a useful utility room with washing machine, separate dryer, and a Belfast sink overlooking Derwentwater.

The lodge boasts ample parking. There are several lovely walks immediately on offer from the door, so don’t forget your hiking boots! Or why not bring your mountain bike with you to see even more of this beautiful area (lockable storage available in shed for pedal bikes but no facilities for charging/storing e-bikes).

Castlerigg Hall campsite is nearby where you can purchase basics such as fresh milk, bread and eggs. Fancy a bite to eat? Why not try the cafe at Castlerigg Hall which is open daily from 12-4 for delicious coffee and cakes, and the Heights Hotel Crag Bar 5 minutes down the lane sells vegetarian and vegan-friendly meals every evening from spring-autumn.

Path to walk down into Keswick (about 25 mins); paths to Castlerigg Stone Circle (about 35 minutes), and Walla Crag (about 40 minutes) with spectacular views down to Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite. You may be lucky enough to spot paragliders taking flight!
