Step out of the door in The Lake District and walk on the fells in all directions from Keswick without the need to use your car. This is a warm, comfortable two bedroom apartment in the top half of a former railway house, situated on the outskirts of Keswick. The house is built in traditional local stone with the top half rendered and painted white. The apartment has a spacious lounge, plus a good sized double bedroom and bathroom. The double bed is 5 foot wide. A small bedroom has two bunk beds. These are custom built and 175 cms long so anyone over 6 foot would not be able to stretch out. The dining kitchen seats up to four, and is equipped to a very high standard.. There is off road private parking for two cars. The apartment has panoramic views of the Grassmoor Group of hills, from the lounge and both bedrooms. This is an ideal location for walking, and exploring the Lake District with easy access to all the amenities of Keswick town.

Crandy Nook, built in 1891 of traditional lakeland stone, is a fabulous 4 bedroom maisonette converted to an exceptional standard in 2007. Centrally located in the popular market town of Keswick, the views of Skiddaw, Walla Crag, The Dodds, Castlehead Wood and over the rooftops towards Bassenthwaite, Dodd, Skiddaw and Whinlatter Forest, from the lounge and kitchen are simply stunning. Crandy Nook is offered on weekly, weekend or short break options with Monday or Friday changeover days.

Set over 3 floors above a coffee shop, on the top floor, with a vaulted ceiling, is the open plan lounge and kitchen diner, a cosy haven in which to relax and socialise. The contemporary kitchen is very well equipped with induction hob and granite work surfaces.

There are 2 bedrooms (2 doubles, a three-quarter (Queen) and a single) and 2 luxury bathrooms on each of the other 2 floors. Both bathrooms have walk-in showers, baths and heated towel rails.

The accommodation continues to achieve Visit England 4* rating, the last annual assessment being March 2024. We're very proud of our 9.8/10 Vrbo rating (35 reviews).

Keswick is an all year round popular destination on the shores of Derwentwater. This friendly town hosts the twice-weekly market (Thursdays and Saturdays) that has recently won the coveted "Best Outdoor Market" in the Great British Market Awards.

There is something for everyone. Activities include a variety of water sports, wall climbing, paragliding and swimming. Go Ape and mountain biking are in nearby Whinlatter Forest. Keswick also offers two large public parks which offer games facilities in open, wooded and garden settings. Other facilities include a new sports hall, leisure pool, cinema, golf (pitch and put and Keswick Golf Club), cycle hire and fishing. Why not try the 400-seat Theatre on the Lake or a cruise on Derwentwater.

You are spoilt for choice for walking. Use Keswick as a base or take in day trips to Ullswater, Crummock Water and Buttermere or further afield, the South Lakes. Personal favourites of ours are Dale Head & High Spy, Grisedale Pike, The Dodds, the Borrowdale Valley, Latrigg and the walk around the shores of Derwentwater. Those who are more adventurous, will head for Sharp Edge on Blencathra or Striding Edge on Helvellyn.

The holiday cost includes 2 parking permits for use in the neighbouring church car park.

We welcome one well behaved dog. For infants, we provide a travel cot (please bring bedding) and a high chair.

This delightful one bedroom studio apartment, consisting of the ground floor of a stone-built terraced cottage, is in a most convenient location, close to the River Greta and Fitz Park, and within easy walking distance of all Keswick's amenities, Derwentwater, the Theatre by the Lake and the Leisure Pool.
It is an ideal base from which to explore this superb part of the Lake District, whether on foot, bicycle or by car. There is a wonderful variety of walks available right from the door and good local bus services so that a car is not necessary. There is free car parking with no restrictions in the street and it is almost always possible to find a parking place just outside, or at least very close by.
Comfortably furnished, it is surprisingly spacious and the living/dining room has a French door to the patio which adds to the light and airy feel of the property. The sofa in the lounge area opens to make a single bed for occasional use for which bed linen can be requested.
It has a well-equipped kitchen with a washing machine and drying rack. Access is through the large, lawned, shared garden. There is a collection of books, maps and guides. New smart TV (summer 2025) with your apps to log into. The cottage is maintained by the owner who will be pleased to offer advice on walks, attractions and transport in the area.
Keswick is a mecca for walkers and cyclists and has many galleries, craft and outdoor shops and an excellent choice of cafés, restaurants and lively pubs.
Garden Apartment is only a few minutes level walking distance to the shops, pubs, restaurants and attractions of Keswick. Just over the road and the footbridge across the River Greta lies Fitz Park, with its riverside meadows, woodland and gardens, tennis courts, bowling greens and superlative children’s play area. The magnificently refurbished Victorian museum has a cafe that looks over the park. And ten minutes walk brings you to the Theatre By The Lake which has a most varied and interesting programme of plays, music and events to suit all tastes throughout the year.
Keswick is a wonderful centre for walkers, climbers, cyclists, water sports enthusiasts and lovers of the landscape. As well as catering for all these interests close by, being the transport hub of the North Lakes the attractions of the rest of the Lake District are easily reached. If you want to leave the car behind the local bus services or the Derwentwater launches are great for taking you to the start of a walk or bringing you back when you've gone as far as you want.
The English Lake District is the most beautiful part of the country with a landscape that has attracted artists, poets, tourists and outdoor enthusiasts from all over the world. It was designated A UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017. The lakes that give the District its name are unique and each one offers something a little different to its visitors. Derwentwater, the “Jewel of the Lake District”, is particularly scenic, with many shoreline and woodland walks on land cared for by the National Trust. It has some of the best boating and water sport opportunities, with a number of marinas and boat hire companies serving visitors. Around the lake several of the fells rise to more than 3000 feet and to the south, Borrowdale gives access to some of the finest hill walks in the country. Keswick lies at the north end of the lake. An attractive little town with the distinctive Moot Hall standing proud over its market place, as well as being a shopping, tourist and accommodation centre, it is a focus for adventure sports and outdoor activities. The nearby Whinlatter Forest has a renowned visitor centre with a shop, cafe, and cycle centre with mountain biking trails, walking trails, and adventure activities and Go-Ape trail in the forest. It's visitor centre also has a CCTV live osprey viewing screen.

A large spiral stone steps lead to the first floor veranda, looking out across the River Derwent to the stunning skyline of Latrigg and Skiddaw and the world famous former Cumberland Pencil Mill. The front door opens to the bright, airy and spacious open plan living area. This incredible space is quite unique with its high vaulted ceiling with impressive wooden beams. Comfortable sofas and armchairs are arranged around the feature fireplace with gas stove. A couple of step lead to the elevated, bespoke, fitted kitchen, that overlooks the living area with range cooker, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. To the side the large family dining table is set into the bay window, with views over the lower roof to the northern fells.

Choose from one of three welcoming bedrooms all with their own Smart TV. To the front is the spacious dual aspect master bedroom with superking bed and views to Skiddaw. A further double bedroom with king bed and a twin bedroom are situated further to the rear of the property. The private enclosed outdoor area welcomes you with the patio that has been paved with a stylish finish and this is where there is outdoor seating so you can enjoy a meal or a glass of wine at the end of the day. There is a grass area to enjoy picnics on that leads to a raised patio with two deck chairs that will capture the last of the sun’s rays. There is also private bike storage in the outdoor area so you can explore the fells on your bike.

This property has a dedicated parking area behind the house that could provide space for three or four cars. This is a rare feature so close to the town centre.

Latrigg is another great walk too, well worth the effort. The views over Keswick and Derwentwater were fabulous. Castlerigg stone circle is definitely worth a visit also. I had the most amazing weather too so was not disappointed!! A great 4 days away, I packed so much in but there’s still plenty to see and do next time! I’ll be back!!"

There would be enough room here to keep a pram if needed. Beyond the living area you will see the dining table, which seats 4 people comfortably. In this central section you can also find the integrated fridge and freezer, kettle and toaster. The kitchen is filled with light thanks to the bi-fold doors that open out onto the delightful patio area. From the patio you can walk through the lawned area to a beautiful deck complete with outdoor sofa and parasol, for those lazy days by the water.

Once inside, walk back through to the living room and up the stairs to the 1st floor hallway. Straight ahead, at the front of the property, you can find the master suite. The bedroom is furnished with a double bed, bedside tables and lights, and clothing rails. The ensuite comprises walk in shower, WC, heated towel rail and sink.

The second bedroom can be found at the rear of the property and benefits from beautiful views over the garden and River Greta, which are on full display thanks to the floor-ceiling casement window. The addition of a Juliette balcony means that you can open this up to enjoy the surroundings from the comfort of your bed! This room is furnished with a super-king bed, which can be made up into a twin upon request (£15 additional fee).

Finally, across the hall you can find the bathroom which comprises walk in waterfall shower, sink, WC and heated towel rail. Towels are provided.

There is a bus stop close by which will take you into the town centre, or you can enjoy the lovely walk along the old trainline which has been turned into a footpath.

The bed in the bedroom at the back of the house is HUGE and there is full height window that opens onto the garden. The garden is stunning and slopes down to the river Greta. The garden has a dining table and comfy sofa. For dog owners - the garden is not enclosed. One thing to note - the house is on a busy main road and there is traffic noise in the house (but not in the bedroom at the back). We live near to a main road at home and so the noise didn't trouble us but it might be an issue if you are used to a quieter environment. In addition, there are a few parking spaces over the road and while we did not have any issues with parking in February, it might be different in peak season. An amazing stay and we will certainly be back."

All bookings made in the Dower House will require a security deposit of £250.00. You will be required to provide a swipe of your credit or debit card upon arrival as a security deposit. This will be deleted at the end of your stay when your holiday home has been checked.

The Dower House and The Croft are immediately adjacent to a working farm. The farm can be particularly busy during the spring lambing season.

Hot tub use is strictly from 7am to 10pm only. Please respect other holiday makers and young children - excessive noise will not be tolerated and please be aware that you could run the risk of the tub being turned off. Please note that this applies to hot tub accommodations only.

For group bookings under the age of 25 and same sex parties please contact the park in advance for approval.

We have been advised today that the A591 from Keswick to Bassenthwaite will be closed for 26 days between the hours of 8am-4pm.

This means that ALL holiday clients will need to go round the lake if they are arriving for 3pm. Therefore they will need to follow the A66 heading west. At the end of the average speed section you will find a right hand turning for Castle Inn follow signs for Castle Inn.

Go over the bridge at the top of the lake.

At the crossroads with the Castle Inn on your left turn right. Follow the road (passed the garage Skiddaw Service Station (on left ) and after about 300 yards turn right at the crossroads for Scarness.

Follow the road to the T junction and turn right.

The park is approx. 400 yards on your left.

This most probably going to cause mayhem but thought to get the info off to you so that holiday clients are aware.

Please do not charge electric cars at this at your lodge, this is becoming a problem with cables being put through windows etc. The park is not insured for this and it is a fire hazard.

Please note: there is an EV charging point located near the laundrette

Paddleboard hire is available for guests.

The space
This is a small room with the basic kitchenette within the bedroom area and the bed is a standard double bed, not a king sized bed. The room has a lovely private outside terrace accessed through the private door from the bedroom. There is no lounge area so if you are expecting a large bedroom and lots of internal space then unfortunately this room may not be appropriate for you as when it is raining, you cannot use the terrace. However, when the weather is kind, the terrace is a lovely addition to the room.

The Loft

The Loft is one of seven holiday cottages at Parkergate - a converted 18th century farmhouse, barn and outbuildings close to the village of Bassenthwaite, near Keswick, Cumbria. Head up beautiful sandstone steps to find your private balcony and front door. The loft has a kitchen/ living area, bathroom with freestanding bath and separate shower, cozy dining room, twin bedroom with views over the lakes and vale and a mezzanine double bedroom up the steps from the dining room.

The space
Once you've drawn yourself away from the stunning view afforded from your private balcony by the front door, head inside to the bright open plan kitchen and living area. With comfortable seating for 4 it's the perfect space to put your feet up, read a good book, watch a film or chat and put the world to rights with your travel companions while still enjoying the beautiful view through the full glass door.

When you've whipped up a storm in the kitchen (or bought takeaway home from nearby Keswick or Cockermouth) you can share a meal in the cosy dining room.

As the evening draws in there are comfy beds waiting for you across 2 bedrooms. The twin room off the living area has 2 single beds, and up the stairs from the dining room on a mezzanine level you'll find a comfy double.

The bright clean bathroom boasts a beautiful roll top freestanding bath, and a separate enclosed shower cubicle. White cotton bath sheets and hand towels are also provided.

Travel cots and high chairs can be made available at request, however we do ask guests to be very mindful of the steps both inside and outside the property to keep our smallest guests safe and sound.

Guest access
The Loft is accessed up a flight of sandstone steps. If you struggle with stairs this might not be the right cottage for you.

Arrival is anytime from 15.30 onwards. Please park in the bay allocated to your cottage - The Loft entrance and parking is in the main courtyard towards the left. Please park on the block paving by the sandstone steps and follow them up to find your front door.

Other things to note
Parkergate Cottages sit just outside the pretty Lake District village of Bassenthwaite and is only 6 miles from the quaint market town of Keswick or 8 miles from picturesque Cockermouth - both of which boast a wide choice of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Keswick also hosts a beautiful Theatre where there is an excellent range of shows.

Adventure enthusiasts will never be short for things to do - Bassenthwaite Lake is only 1.5 miles away where you can wild swim, paddleboard or kayak. Derwent Water, Crummock Water, Buttermere and Ennerdale Water are also easily accessible.

Dodd Wood is only 1.5 miles up the road and provides stunning guided paths of varying lengths and elevations. Whinlatter Wood is an easy drive away too.

Whether visiting Parkergate to tick off a few Wainwrights or while away the afternoons browsing the local shops and eating cake in the various cafes - we are perfectly placed to see and get the best from the local area.

The space
The cottage is completely self contained, and has a full kitchen, with oven, hob, fridge, and all utensils, crockery etc. Coffee, tea, sugar, condiments, cooking oil. Baking equipment also! Please ask if something you require isn’t there though. Sorry but It doesn't have a washing machine. Maybe able to use our machine though. Patio and garden shared but you have your own table and chairs away from us. Large power shower in the bathroom.

Guest access
The flat is accessible for people in wheelchairs, as long as the wheelchair is not an extra wide one. Please feel free to ask more about this. We welcome anyone with accessibility needs. My Mum lived in the flat and had accessibility needs, and was very happy in the space.

Other things to note
No vans I’m sorry. Unless you can message before booking, then it might be possible. Booking for one night or on the same day might be available, again if you message first . We are happy to take a baby or child as extra, but need to talk with the guests about this again before they book. We welcome one dog but it would be easier if the dog didn’t shed much hair, sorry. . Dog fee but not payable until you arrive.
There is wifi and we do have the best package, however just as can happen in our own house sometimes, it can cut out occasionally. We are told due to us being in the mountains.
We have a very old dog, Midge, who our regulars love.

Bramble Cottage is a comfortable retreat from a day in the Lake District. The property is accessed and looks out on central courtyard of Fieldside Grange but guests do have access to the grounds at the front where there is a picnic table to sit, eat, drink and enjoy the mountain views. The property comprises an open plan lounge and kitchen with Wifi, TV, Firestick for access to your own Netflix, Prime, AppleTV, DVD, Alexa for music streaming. The kitchen is fully equipped with electric oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave ,fridge, freezer and washing machine. Double bedroom with bed linen provided. Bathroom with shower over bath, hand basin, WC and heated towel rail. Bramble Cottage is fully central heated and is cosy in the winter and cool in the summer.
The kitchen is stocked with washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, kitchen roll, tea towels, tea and coffee and a few other essentials.

A travel cot is available at the cottage for those traveling with an infant but you need to bring your own bed linen for the cot if using.
