- "Great place" - "Best views of the ocean anywhere. Room was clean and comfortable. No TV, but we didn't care. The close up view of the ocean is the entertainment." - "Our experience staying here was one of the best trips we've ever had and this is now one of my favorite places to stay anywhere. Everyone staying there at the same time was raving about it as well. I noted other reviews mention Wi-Fi issues and the fact that the restaurant burned down in a fire. We had perfect Wi-Fi the entire time, a small breakfast was served, and there are a couple of restaurants a short drive away. "

This is a secluded gem of a cabin with craftsman touches in a very lovely setting. It sits in a private corner of the property with magical filtered light through the oak and redwood forest. South facing with a beautiful mountain/canyon view it is very spacious (aprox 600sf) with the tinted plaster walls and arches giving it a very warm, old world feel. The quaint little bedroom is accessed by an outdoor covered staircase and has a spectacular view of the canyon. There is very nice deck space on three sides of the cabin, where one can sit in sun or shade while enjoying the abundant bird life and forest/mountain/canyon views. Or relax in our deep clawfoot tub that sits in our redwood gardenroom. Deer and quail are commonly seen, with the occasional glimpse of a bobcat or fox. And no need to bring your own water, we've plenty of good well water here.
We now have a wood-fired sauna on the property,which is available to guests as well as ourselves. The sauna has a large, covered deck and sits in a quiet location shaded beneath a giant live oak, with a beautiful canyon view. The perfect place to calm your spirit and feel the bounty of nature.
The property is conveniently located halfway between Carmel/Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur Proper. Three miles inland and over 1,100 ft in elevation, we are usually above the fog , which creates unique views as it moves in and out of the canyon like slow tide. We are 4/10ths of a mile up a well maintained dirt rd.......access is rarely a problem and then only during heavy storms in the winter months at these times 4WD is recommended , though not often necessary.
This land is a place for quietude and solitude...a place to be replenished and calmed by the simple beauty of nature.We hope that our guests treat this as an opportunity to experience these wildlands with reverence and come away refreshed in a way that only nature can deliver.So please respect this quiet for your sake as well as those who live here.

- "The cabin is really comfortable and the views are beautiful. In some ways, the photos don’t do it justice. We really enjoyed the outdoor bath with views of the trees, and the wood fired sauna was fantastic on a colder evening after a day hiking." - "The property was perfect for what we were looking for. Clean and picturesque. Monica was a perfect host." - "It’s hard to adequately describe the beauty and magic of this special place. The lovely cabin itself, perfectly sized for our family 3. Cozy with the wood burning stove to take the morning and evening chill out. Perched to feel private and one with nature. Wrap around deck and whimsical outdoor tub and sauna. Quiet, still, forest and valley below with glorious filtered sunlight coming through the live oak trees branches, Hummingbird and quail greetings each morning. We lingered each morning until at least 10am before heading out for the day. Returning to enjoy the evening by 5pm because this place became a highlight of our vacation. Of course surrounding Big Sur (especially Point Lobos park and charming Carmel) were highlights as well. The only challenging part (initially) was the drive to the cabin. I would have felt more comfortable in a 4 wheel drive vehicle but our Chevy Malibu rental car did fine. This drive was intimidating at first, not knowing where it would end. Enchanting redwood forest leading to mountain road vistas, yet a somewhat isolated feeling “neighborhood”- a lot after a 5 hour flight and then straight drive from San Fran airport. However, this drive soon became an enjoyable part of our stay once we got the lay of the land. Thank you Monica and Joel- we hope to return one day."

- "The view! Oh my- what a view! It was constantly changing with the marine layer. We loved the pool and the hot tub and used the fireplace every night. We slept like babies on the cozy beds. Chrystal and Monica were very helpful. We had to turn on the generator once and it was easy. Cannot wait to return…" - "Once you get up the rather treacherous road, all your worries just melt away. This property really is a little piece of heaven on earth. We had some guests that needed help driving up the hill, but most of us made it on our own. Justin and Crystal were very helpful both before the trip and during. We turned this setting into a venue for our small wedding for an extra fee, and it was an amazing decision! Our guests proclaimed that it was the most beautiful wedding they had ever been to. Crystal’s whole family was there and helped us with the heavy lifting of arranging the farm tables and setting up the chairs. It was a seamless event that will be remembered forever. Thank you for sharing your lovely piece of heaven with us!"

Heather is wonderful and so helpful!" - "One one my favorite stays. Windows overlook the valley as you lay in a very comfortable bed. Winter is lovely with a fire. Really enjoyed all the decor that was carefully curated and your taste in books! Bath time was also my favorite. All the right things in all the right places just at an arms length. The extra time to drive up the road was also a bonus because its worth it. The best sleep I've had in a long time. Got to totally unplug for a week in this beautiful setting. My favorite part was the new Adirondack chairs clustered around a cozy fire pit. It felt like our own little peaceful retreat, but still close enough to explore all the cool spots in Big Sur and Carmel.The cabin itself is really charming with a comfy bed, tub for soaking, and a kitchen that had everything we needed. The whole place was spotless, and we appreciated the eco-friendly touches. We loved hanging out outside too, especially the well kept hiking trails and relaxing in the hammock.Brianne and Andrew were friendly, helpful, and quick to respond whenever we had questions. They gave us great local tips that made our trip even better.Location-wise, it’s perfect if you want to be close to nature but still near all the best beaches and trails. *Due to being a campground on a mountain surrounded by forest land our local critters have keen noses and boundless bellies! Once you finish eating, dispose of your food properly or seal it and keep it inside your car or cabin as well as any overly scented items. This is to avoid any critters coming into your unit. We encourage you to visit the Monterey County website for a list of wildlife in the Monterey and Carmel mountains.

A modern cozy interesting design with a great view of the Redwood Forest.
This is a fun cabin and a bit like "glamping" so expect rustic.
Enjoy a unique outdoor shower inside a redwood tree stump.
Relax and read, paint, meditate in the living room with a view.
A small but adequate kitchen w small fridge next or to the side of the living room.
The two burner propane stove top is outside on the deck along with your art supplies, chairs to relax in.
It's a steep but short hike into the forest.
The space
This is a metal house and a Big Sur modern retreat. One bedroom with full bed, close to the floor. Electric oil heater in bedroom.
The living room is cozy with a great view of the forest.
Kitchen is mostly part of the living room, and stove top outside on the deck.
Guest access
Pull into parking lot and park on the left where you see the sign for "Lotus" or "Dome".
If you have a 4WD or AWD let Sofanya know so she can arrange a parking spot closer to the cabin.
Other things to note
This is an interesting fun cabin....just a step above "glamping" so plan accordingly.
It can get chilly in the evening, or in winter so bring layers, sweater, jacket, socks, slippers, flip flops to get to and from the shower which is a few feet away up a dirt path, in a large tree trunk!

The Property
~~~~~~~~~~
Heart Circle Mountain sits in the Goldilocks Zone—above the fog line but below the hotter, buggy highlands—offering a sunny microclimate teeming with wildlife. Here, deer, foxes, squirrels, quail, birds of prey, and even bobcats roam freely.
Just outside your door, two private hiking trails invite you to explore the beauty of Big Sur without the crowds. Along the way, discover scenic lounging areas with two-person hammocks, loungers, tables and chairs —perfect for a picnic or a drink while bathing in nature.
The Waterfall Trail
This serene path winds through a redwood forest along a private stretch of Palo Colorado Creek, leading to two enchanting lounge areas, surrounded by lush sorrel and ferns. At the halfway point, you’ll find Forest Glen, a magical haven where a meandering creek flows beneath a soaring old-growth redwood fairy ring. Further ahead, the trail ends in an intimate forest retreat, where a 10-foot granite waterfall cascades into a tranquil pool, framed by ferns, horsetails, redwoods, and oaks.
The Zen Trail
For breathtaking ocean, mountain, and valley views, follow the Zen Trail up Garrapata Ridge. Along the way, you might spot a bobcat or our resident fox near its den. At the summit, relax in a secluded lounge area beneath a natural oak arbor, with panoramic views of dramatic ridgelines and the Pacific on the horizon. Watch red-tailed hawks and peregrine falcons glide overhead as you take in a fog river pouring over the ridges or a stunning sunset.
You won’t need to drive anywhere to experience the best of Big Sur—it’s all right here. But if adventure calls, the coastline and Ventana Wilderness are just a short drive away.
