Would stay again. Thank you." - "Clean property with beautiful views. My wife and I really enjoyed staying at the cabin. We had fun exploring the telescope but had trouble calibrating. Eastwood Ravine Cabin w/Hot tub, pets on 40 acres!
Cabin
Mariposa, California, USA

This charming century-old cottage blends history with modern comfort, including an outdoor hot tub. Just a short drive away, explore the old gold-mining town of Mariposa for a taste of local history. Enjoy unforgettable stargazing right from the property, under clear, dark skies. This cabin offers an escape; warming by the fireplace or soaking in the hot tub under the stars.

In the cabin you’ll find all the amenities you will need in this highly upgraded 3 bedroom cozy home with 2 full baths When you walk in, you won't find the musty stuffiness, typical of many vacation rentals. The modern kitchen has all solid stone surface counters and is decorated to look and feel like an old style farmhouse. You will also find it fully stocked with pots, pans, bakeware and an array of spices.

There are 2 flat screen smart TV's, FAST free Wi-Fi. Verizon and T-Mobile work well on the property, AT&T is spotty.

You’ll find 1 bedroom downstairs with its own bath, another full bathroom in the hallway and 2 more bedrooms upstairs. Natural materials were used to accent the home’s history lending to its warmth and the charm of times gone by. Look and you’ll see wood in the home that's about 100 years old. The floors upstairs are original but reworked during the renovation. The living room, dining area and kitchen are all open, allowing you to enjoy watching your favorite movies or shows and to stay warm with the fireplace in the cooler months.

We have central air-conditioning and heat for your comfort any time of the year (a rare, desirable feature in such rustic homes, as opposed to typical noisy wall units). You'll find a new, easily accessible laundry room with washer and dryer. Here is another nice unique feature - you won't be bothered while trying to sleep by creaky floorboards with people walking above - the downstairs master bedroom has no second floor above it.

There are two outside sitting areas - one is a front porch looking at the woodlands and any wildlife and the other belongs to the master bedroom with its own private deck to sit, allowing some private time. We provide a BBQ and propane for you, along with a rock fire pit, that can be used except during fire season. The outside area is large and level, making it a great place for kids to play, ride bikes and explore nearby. Set on 40 acres, the property will invite you to stay, relax and take leisurely hikes and enjoy the forested and scenic views of the Sierras from locations on the property. Peace and quiet are the best things you’ll notice when you stay at the cabin. The dark night sky is perfect for stargazing.

- "Finding a comfortable place for a family of 7 is no easy task. This house fit the bill just perfectly! The kitchen had everything we could have needed. The beds were comfortable. Everything was clean. Because of summer traffic, it took about an hour to get to the Arch Rock entrance of Yosemite, but the ride along the Merced River was a beautiful part of the journey. It was also nice to be so close to Mariposa. The house is listed as 3 bedroom, but there is a door between the two spaces in the loft which makes it feel like a 4 bedroom. Just be sure that the people sleeping in the loft are okay with coming downstairs to use the bathroom. It wasn’t a problem for us at all. Communication with the owner was pleasant and all messages were answered quickly. Highly recommended!"

Cozy Bear Hollow " Cozy, rustic charming, a great value"
Cabin
Mariposa, California, USA

Cozy Bear Hollow is just 2 minutes from Mariposa, the "Gateway to Yosemite National Park, Two Bedrooms, a cozy living room, full kitchen, two bathrooms, and a hot tub under the trees. Grace Oak's Cozy Hollow is a lovely little home for your retreat or getaway. Nestled in mountains, just two minutes from Mariposa, 'The Gateway to Yosemite,' and decorated with the theme of the wildlife that roam nearby, you'll enjoy coming home to this retreat after a day in Yosemite, or Historic Mariposa. The home features a hot tub, deck, fire circle, TV, Books, Wifi, a fully functional kitchen, 2 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms. Nearby Mariposa and other historic towns like Coulterville, Hornitos, Bear Valley, the Mariposa Museum, and the State Mineral Exhibit are fun to explore. In the summer the town is alive with tourists, weekend 'Music on the Green' featuring local artists in a lovely park setting, occasional open air movies on the park lawn. A fun time to visit is in the spring, when the falls in Yosemite are running. Mariposa has it's butterfly festival, and parade (usually the first weekend in May.) The poppies in the Briceburg canyon are breath-taking. Fall is also wonderful; Starting with the Labor Day Parade and old fashioned Mariposa County Fair. I love the colors that come with the changing of the leaves, and the crisp air. Winter is great, especially if we have a few snows! The Mariposa Christmas parade is usually the first weekend in December, as is the annual Christmas Craft fair. Yosemite offers some fun activities at the Ahwanee, as well as ice skating, and skiing in the village, or it's always fun to drive there to see the Lord's majestic Creation. It's also fun to just relax at Grace Oak's Cozy Hollow... away from the hustle and on the porch and watch for deer, (which I see here everyday) wild turkeys, quail,& rabbits, while you enjoy a good book...
( and I just saw a coyote there today.) Roast marshmellows around our gas fire pit, or hang out under the stars in our Hot tub. Nothing beats a family Christmas away from the city. Get away and remember what a simple quiet Christmas is really all about. You can't beat the price... two bedrooms, a gathering room and a kitchen for the same price of one little stuffy hotel room. What do you have to lose?. ;)

Guest Reviews:

- "We sincerely enjoyed your home!! The beds were super comfy. The owner quickly responded to our messages. The hot tub is cozy for 4 adults but doable, the clubhouse is smaller than expected as well as the pool table was not full size, but the guys had fun. The kitchen was fairly well stocked, could use some updated frying pans for sure., but we again managed. We would stay again for sure. This house made a great home for our long weekend!!"

We loved the river down below if we would of had more time would of loved to pack a picnic and enjoy the sounds of the river flowing. Had everything and then some of what we needed. We pretty much all of our meals in your home. The park is not to far from your place not a big deal to get to. In the cabin you’ll find all the amenities you will need in this highly upgraded cozy home with 2 full baths. When you walk in, you won't find the musty stuffiness, typical of many vacation rentals.

You’ll find 1 bedroom downstairs with its own bath.

The cabin is set back just off the main route 49, near the historic town of Mariposa and is halfway between two entrances to Yosemite Park. You’ll want to sample both easy but different drives into Yosemite - either via the west entrance with HWY 140 along the valley floor beside the Merced River or via the south entrance with HWY 41 through the Sierra mountains.

This location is a great place to retreat to after a busy day with the crowds of summer in Yosemite. The cabin is also a great hideaway in the fall, winter and spring. As the temperature drops, the property, with its special setting, may welcome you with a beautiful snowscape.

Come and visit! You won’t want to leave.

The Eastwood Ravine Cabin is a great starting location for day trips to many points of interest:

To Yosemite through west entrance –
Go north on route 49 to reach the arch rock highway 140 entrance that takes you through the historic town of Mariposa and along the valley floor of the scenic Merced River canyon. It is a beautiful drive which will take you about 45 minutes to an hour to reach the park. There are many places along the road to stop and enjoy the wild and scenic river. This area is known for spectacular wild flower viewing.

To Yosemite through south entrance –
Go south on route 49 to reach Oakhurst - a larger town with many services, dining and shopping options. In Oakhurst, you will turn left onto highway 41 east to wind your way up the mountain into Yosemite Park through the quaint little villages of Fish Camp and Wawona – both places of many interests. Near Wawona is the must see Mariposa Grove of giant redwoods. As you drive further toward Yosemite just after the tunnel, be sure to pull off to see the spectacular view of the Yosemite valley from above.

• Bass lake is located fifteen minutes from Oakhurst. It is a hopping place during warm weather for water sports and just catching some sun and a picnic for the day. Bass lake offers water sports rentals, shops, casual as well as fine dining options. 'Ducey's on the Lake' is a favorite restaurant.

• There are 3 local golf courses just minutes away: Sierra Meadows, River Creek and Wawona; the latter is just inside Yosemite.

• During the winter months you can travel to Badger Pass to enjoy downhill and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

• Many of the communities have many other activities throughout the year! On local websites you can find events like festivals, the arts and wineries to explore. Mariposa has a zip line and river rafting in the summer, as well as horseback riding on forested trails.

• Mariposa has its own airport just 10 minutes from town and 20 minutes from the cabin. Car rentals are available at the airport with advance reservations.

• Fresno international Airport is about 1 hour and 15 minute drive to the cabin.

Cozy Retreat 1 ml from Downtown Mariposa. Yosemite
Cabin
Northern California

Cozy Bear Hollow is just 2 minutes from Mariposa, the "Gateway to Yosemite." Two Bedrooms, one with a king bed and the other with a queen, a cozy living room with a hideabed couch, full kitchen, two bathrooms, and a hot tub under the trees, it sleeps 6. Relax here after a busy day in Yosemite.

The space
Grace Oak's Cozy Bear Hollow is a lovely little home for your retreat or getaway. Nestled in mountains, just a mile and a half from Mariposa, 'The Gateway to Yosemite,' and decorated with the theme of the wildlife that roam nearby, you'll enjoy coming home to this retreat after a day in Yosemite, or Historic Mariposa. It's also fun to just relax at Grace Oak's Cozy Hollow... away from the hustle and bustle...sit on the porch and watch for deer, (which I see here everyday) wild turkeys, quail,& rabbits, while you enjoy a good book...
What do you have to lose?. ;)

Guest access
We have Dish Network, WIFI, games, washer/dryer, refrigerator, coffee maker, waffle maker, griddle, oven, toaster, crock pot, and many other conveniences.
I hesitate to mention the old “cub-house” because it is a dusty little kids club house but we have foozball and an old pool table out in a little rustic club house that is never locked. Lol

Other things to note
If you have a large group, Grace Oak's Cozy Hollow is just down the hill from Grace Oaks Vacation retreat. You may want to book both homes for a large gathering.
It is a extremely important that you enter the exact amount of guests, adults and children. Adults are 18 and over
Children are 1-17
Infants are under one year old.
(For the young party groups that once in a while sneak in a bunch of extra kids...If you have more guests on the property, at any time during your stay, that we’re not counted in the total number of guests. You will be asked to leave immediately, without refund.)

If you are expecting an urban experience and like to be close to town then you may want to look elsewhere.

Notes on amenities
Summer: outdoor sun loungers and one umbrella for shade. Outdoor dining is shaded by a wisteria-covered pergola.
Winter: 2 gas fireplaces can be used November 1 to March 30 in main bedroom and living room
Window shades: guests are very hard on the blinds in the main bedroom and living room. If some panels are out for repair during your stay, they may not be present.

Guest access
You have private access to the entire home, decks, pool, and hot tub. Feel free to hike on property at your own risk, but please do not access the owner's home or enter the barn. You also must avoid trespassing on neighboring ranches.

Other things to note
Location
The cabin features incredible solitude on a hilltop in an isolated rural area 9 miles from the highway. The road in front of the property is gravel. Once you arrive at the ranch, the cabin is located atop a steep, half-mile paved driveway that features multiple hair-pin turns.

Getting Here
The ranch is easily drivable from all population centers in California. Bring your own car or rent one at the airport. Ubers and Taxis are not available. We are 3 hours from the San Francisco Bay Area and 5 hours from Los Angeles. If you are arriving by air, plan your flight to the Fresno / Yosemite (FAT) Airport. Domestic and International visitors will appreciate Fresno's non-stop flights from the major US connecting hubs in Denver, Dallas, and Chicago. The ranch is a scenic 90 minute drive from the Fresno Airport. Even if your travel extends to other parts of California, consider Fresno as a central travel hub with a more relaxed, small-city feel versus the unpredictable congestion of the major urban centers.

Groceries
For the best experience, shop for groceries before arrival or plan to order from Instacart once you are here. There is a mini-mart 15 minutes away for essentials. Mariposa town is 20 minutes away featuring Pioneer Market with most grocery brands. Also in Mariposa, High Country Health Foods has most Whole Foods type brands. Major grocery chains Vons/Raleys are 30 minutes away in Oakhurst.

Yosemite
Due to changing conditions, always verify your travel dates online to determine if a reservation is required to drive into Yosemite. Transportation options and schedules are also readily available online and we are happy to help you with tips to make the most of your stay.

Yosemite access is via scenic hwy 140 into the valley or hwy 41 to reach Mariposa Grove and Glacier Point. Either park entrance is just over 1 hour away and expect a 90 minute drive to the valley floor traffic permitting. During busy summer months we recommend that you depart from the ranch before 5:30AM to avoid traffic. In winter, you must carry chains and check road conditions before departure, especially during rain or snow.

Infants & Children
Our kids love the ranch but please consider the risks if booking with children who are not accustomed to a rural setting. There is a risk of falls on the stairs inside and outside the home and the pool and hot tub are not fenced. There is no outdoor play area. Children must be supervised at all times. The cabin is not equipped for infants. We do not offer a crib or changing table. Crawling infants risk falls on the stairs inside and outside the home and again the pool and hot tub are not fenced. Children cannot be left unsupervised at any time.

Pool & Hot Tub
The pool and hot tub are available for your use year-round, but only the hot tub is heated. The pool & hot tub fee, included in the price of your booking, is $50 per stay. If the Pool and/or hot tub are unusable for any reason including mechanical breakdown, wind-driven debris, or chemical imbalance, you may be entitled to a $50 refund.

Driving and Parking
Expect rural roads, some gravel and in poor condition. The ranch driveway is narrow, steep and has multiple hairpin turns. Take it slow and you won't have a problem. Low-clearance vehicles are not recommended. No trailers. We have parking at the cabin for 2 cars.

Heating and A/C
The cabin has central heating and a/c controlled by a Nest thermostat. Winter heating is limited to 60-70°F (15-21°C). Two gas fireplaces provide additional heat. Summer cooling is limited to 76-85°F (24-29°C). Thermostat settings outside these ranges are available for a fee.

Wildlife, Environment, and Pests
All areas surrounding Yosemite National Park, including more urbanized parts, provide opportunities for wildlife encounters. Guests may spot a variety of creatures, including deer, turkeys, squirrels, and hawks to rarer sightings such as coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, raccoons, feral pigs, skunks, field mice, rattlesnakes, tarantulas, bees, wasps, and scorpions, all contributing to the region's distinctive and diverse ecosystem. Moreover, one should be mindful of the presence of poison oak in the local flora.

To fully appreciate and safely engage with the surrounding nature, it's essential to demonstrate respect for the local environment and possess knowledge about potential risks. By doing so, you can enhance your experience and simultaneously minimize any associated hazards.

Our cabin offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the tranquility and beauty of nature. It’s the perfect retreat for those who love peaceful natural surroundings and wildlife encounters. If you’re more inclined towards the hustle and bustle of city life, an urban vacation might be a better fit for you.

On rare occasions and despite our best efforts, you may experience the presence of a field mouse or other pest inside the cabin. If the remote possibility of an encounter with wildlife or pests is unacceptable to you, please do not book. All accommodations in and around Yosemite present the possibility of encounters with wildlife and pests. To reduce the likelihood of pests entering the cabin, keep doors and screens closed at all times, maintain a tidy kitchen and promptly put away food.

Wildfires
Wildfires are a natural occurrence in the area. Wildfires can happen at any time, but the typical season is between June and November.

Guest access
The house is accessible via a keyless lock. The code will be provided before check-in.

Other things to note
A highchair and pack and play are included for our youngest guests.
If you bring your pet, you are responsible for cleaning up after it around the property.

The property is unfenced. Due to this there is always a chance of wildlife encounters, including the occasional rattlesnake. Please keep pets leashed and supervised.

Outdoor fires of any kind are strictly prohibited in the high fire season, usually June-November, due to risk of wildfires.

Wildfires are a possibility at certain times of year, and because of this, air quality might deteriorate during these times. The house is equipped with an air purifier for our guests’ comfort. We have an abundance of wildlife and you may observe deer, turkeys, squirrels, hawks, and rabbits. Not as common but sometimes spotted are coyotes, bears, mountain lions, raccoons, skunks, opossums, rattlesnakes, tarantulas, and scorpions. You may occasionally encounter poison oak and poison ivy in the area.

During winter months it is recommended that guests carry snow chains for their vehicles in case of snow or icy conditions. Conditions can be unpredictable at this time of year and it is recommended that guests’ vehicles are prepared for the weather. Snowy or icy road conditions are common in the mountains of California, including Yosemite, from fall through spring. When these conditions exist, federal regulations (in Yosemite) and state law (outside Yosemite) require that you use chains or cables in order to reduce the chances of accidents. If roads are icy or snowy, expect chain controls to be in effect. In Yosemite, park rangers frequently check vehicles, reminding drivers to install tire chains if necessary. Snow chains are usually not mandatory for 4x4 drive and winter tires.

Occasionally throughout the year, power outages occur, though they are usually brief. In this case, there will not be hot water, heat, a/c, or access to appliances. There are backup lights, however.

Guest access
Use our place as a base camp for exploring Yosemite National Park and Mariposa County, or simply settle in and retreat here. The whole property is yours to roam as you wish. You'll find everything you need to have the best time hanging out with family or friends, getting your work done, and just relaxing.

One of the highlights of our property is our river, which is accessed by a well-marked and groomed trail that's also perfect for taking a morning or evening stroll on. If you venture to the river and go a bit further downstream, you can find lots to explore.

Other things to note
VISITING THE PARK - UPDATED APRIL 2025
Reservations are not currently required to drive into Yosemite National Park. To check for updates, please visit the park website.

WILDLIFE
As in any mountainous setting close to Yosemite NP, wild animals could pass through the property, near to the cabin. Be prepared to see deer, rabbits, squirrels and birds. Occasionally, there may be coyotes. Rarely, snakes, bears and bobcats can pass through, but they tend to avoid humans.

THE RIVER
The Chowchilla river is a seasonal river. In normal rainfall years it usually only flows October to July, depending on annual snowpack and rainfall. We are currently in a multi-year drought, so the duration of the river flowing is shorter. If you’d like to experience the river flowing during your visit, plan to come before the end of May. Peak time to enjoy the river––when it’s warm enough to sunbathe and swim, is early April to mid-May.

WILDFIRE
Burn restrictions can in effect throughout the year. Outdoor fires will only be allowed from November-May typically, and only in a designated firepit.

NEW - Historic Landmark log cabin on Merced River
Cabin
Northern California

This restored log cabin sits along the Merced River, just 10 miles from Yosemite National Park’s Arch Rock entrance and 21 miles from Mariposa. Built near the site of an 1849 Gold Rush trading post, it’s a rare mix of California history and natural beauty.

The space
Miner James D. Savage established a bona fide trading post just outside Yosemite Valley near El Portal back in 1849. These days, wonderfully rebooted, it serves as a unique vacation property, which is ideal for families, friends, and couples. The lovely Log Cabin is a cozy one-bedroom cabin ideal for honeymooners or those who want a romantic getaway— or for a writer finishing a book or memoir, actually. The spacious one-bedroom cabin sits right along a flowing river and includes a prominent living room, kitchen, dining area, Jacuzzi tub, and more. There is also a queen bed in the open space. The Log Cabin at Savages is designed for cozy comfort after a fun day in nature.

Note: We use Starlink for WiFi. Due to our remote location WiFi is not always reliable.

Other things to note
We allow pets for an additional charge:
$75 flat fee
If any damages are incurred during the stay we will request additional payment

Amenities:
