About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The historic village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area), and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Very nice location with everything we needed in our cabin." - "Great 2 bedroom cabin for our family. This cabin has ac which was a must for us in July. (On VRBO it did not list AC under the amenities, but reading the reviews and contacting the property manager, they confirmed it did). The AC worked well, the beds were soft, things were clean. It was nice to stay inside the south gates of Yosemite, so we didn't have to worry about lines at the gate coming in."

- "Very spacious and comfortable for 4 people, and located in a nice community, close to the park entrance near mariposa grove. Easy access to mariposa grove, and about an hour away from glacier point and the valley. The kitchen is very well stocked with vessels (but you have to bring your own stuff to cook, the only thing the property supplies is salt and pepper). We loved everything about this house except for one thing: The place was generally well maintained, but it didn't look like housekeeping cleans up well between guests. Our pillowcases were disgusting, as were the patio chairs. The pillowcases had hair all over them, and we had to drape a towel over them when sleeping."

- "Our cabin was conveniently located in Wawona, which saved us quite a bit of time accessing the valley floor. It was nice to be able to return to a clean, comfortable cabin after a long, hot day at play. Our only wish would have been for air conditioning as our stay was on one of the hottest weeks of the year, but the experience was great overall!" - "We celebrated our 60th birthday with long time friends at your beautiful cabin! Everything about it was perfect. The kitchen was so well-equipped for any type of cooking. The living room was cozy with plenty of seating for family time. Games and books are provided. There's a huge fire place for cooler months. The beds were comfortable and clean .... felt a lot like the one I have at home! Oh! And the back porch was great for evening rest and morning prayer time! We did a lot of hiking in Yosemite and needed this lovely cabin to refresh."

- "Great home base for my family's visit to Yosemite. Communication was easy with the owner/owner rep. Our family most enjoyed the deck and grill." - "Really enjoyed our stay at the Redwoods. The cabin was nice, Beds were comfy, all very nicely well kept." - "River Song was exactly what we were looking for: a quiet, somewhat secluded cabin close to the Merced, with enough space for four (2 kids, 2 adults) to not be on top of each other after long days in Yosemite. Everything worked great, plenty of extra bedding for the chillier nights; couldn't have asked for more."

- "The cabin was perfect for our stay while visiting Yosemite." - "Had a great time. The area was quiet and the cabin was nice. One member of our family described it as "very national parky." Only issue was the WiFi was slow." - "Cabin #53 provided all the comforts of home. Appreciated that cabin was tidy and clean upon arrival and we found it provided most of what was needed for meal prep. A set of linens for the sofa bed wouldʻve been appreciated which we requested the following day as we arrived after office hours. Otherwise, we wish we had another day or two to enjoy the Redwoods at Yosemite and the cabin deck and nearby hiking trails. Our 16 yr old son was impressed with the binder that included comprehensive information of activities and a history of the area. Laundry is nearby at the office and is free, which we appreciated and used twice during our short stay, and housekeeping staff were very accommodating and kind. We hope to return to cabin #53."

- "Perfect for 2 people, friendly staff. Super cute cabin, beautiful deck and surroundings." - "The stay was more than we could've asked for and was a perfect cabin for two adults. Very quiet, peaceful, and beautiful community with a hiking trail and river 3 minutes away! The cabin itself accommodated all of our needs- kitchen was large enough to cook a nice meal one of our nights. Lots of pots, pans, and dishes provided. The porch was the best spot to relax and drink coffee in the morning while watching the summer wildlife! We saw a large deer on our walk to the hiking trail. Few very minor improvements could be made- the carpet was still very dirty and crumby when we arrived (everything else was clean though). Also when we arrived, the lady that gave us our key envelope at the front desk didn't tell us the directions to our cabin were INSIDE the envelope (we assumed only the keys were in there) so we were lost for a bit and had to go back to her. Make sure to look into the envelope for easy directions to your cabin, otherwise navigation through phone apps can be tricky."

Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 110 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

- "We found the log home exremely clean and comfortable. It was well appointed and borderline luxurious. The ONLY negative during our stay was an empty LP gas cylinder discovered when we went to use the barbecue" - "This was one of the best properties we have stayed at. While pricey, we really appreciated how well-designed & airy the house was. It was spotless and clean. Like a previous reviewer, my family is sensitive to dust and we had zero issues. You are close to other houses but we didn't hear anything. We had a few very minor issues and the maintenance staff was very responsive."

- "We enjoyed our stay at the Avid Hiker Cabin. It is located in Wawona which is just inside the gates of Yosemite Ntl park. Note, it’s about 40+ min drive into Yosemite valley. The Pine street store is close enough to walk to if you need groceries. The cabin was clean and spacious. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the AC worked… made the hot summer visit pleasant. The beds were very comfortable and we slept well; away from the hustle/bustle of Yosemite valley. The kitchen was well stocked with most everything you’d need to cook. We made pancakes on our last morning. There was a washer/dryer in the cabin though we didn’t use it. Two bathrooms, one with a shower. Would advise you to bring your own toiletries - no shampoo/conditioner provided which was no big deal as we had packed ours. There was a propane BBQ on the deck and a nice outdoor seating area with sun umbrella we didn’t use any but nice it was available TV with Hulu, Netflix which was a hit with kids. Wi-Fi worked well which also was a hot with kids. Overall, very comfortable, cute & met our needs."

The Heart of Wawona at the Core of Yosemite National Park.

Spectacular Glacier Point vistas and lush Yosemite Valley are only a half hour drive north. You can start all of the trails to Half Dome, Nevada Falls, and even hike down to the Valley from Glacier Point, or you can start from the Valley. Your choice!

The Mariposa Grove of giant sequoia trees is a mere ten minute drive south.

Yosemite National Park is Mother Nature’s most impressive creation in the majestic West. Wawona is the best-kept secret inside Yosemite, and historic Camp Chilnualna (pronounced “Chill New All Na”) in Yosemite has been Wawona’s beating heart for nearly a century.

No matter what you love most about Yosemite—from its thunderous, cascading waterfalls, to epic granite monoliths and unparalleled wildlife—you will fall in love with Wawona because it has everything except hordes of tourists invading your precious experience at every turn.

Have you ever:

- Awoken to take a one-minute walk to the best swimming hole in the pristine Merced River?
- Felt the exhilarating flow of a bona fide Yosemite waterfall washing over your entire body?
- Hooked a hungry Yosemite trout and taken it home for the freshest grilled fish dinner ever?
- Stared at a luminous sunset reflecting off epic Wawona Dome?
- Lay down on an ancient granite boulder and watched the stars of the Zodiac drift across the horizon?

These are a select few from an endless list of profound experiences happening any given day when you stay at Camp Chilnaualna in Yosemite. Take advantage of our 80 years of experience hosting travelers in Wawona.

For Families, the river swimming hole with warm pools in the summer is 150 feet away. The Pioneer Yosemite History Center has original buildings from the 1800s and a covered bridge that is easy to walk around.

For Golfers, the Wawona golf course is a 9-hole course.

For Hotel Bar/Restaurants, you can sit on the front porch of the classic Wawona Hotel, or go to the Valley to the Ahwahnee Hotel.

Walking or your car.
Free buses from Wawona down to the Yosemite valley.

Other things to note
GROCERIES: We have two convenience stores in the Wawona area. The Pine Tree Market is located on Chilnualna Falls Road and Wawona Market is located on Forest Drive. We recommend that you stop in the town of Oakhurst, the last major town you come to before you get to the park, to do any major grocery shopping. There is a Vons, Raley’s, CVS and Rite Aid.

GAS: There are only three gas stations located inside Yosemite National Park. One is located approximately 2 miles from our office, another is located in Crane Flat, and the third one is in Tuolumne Meadows. We recommend you get gas in the town of Oakhurst considering it is less expensive than it is in park.

WINTER CONDITIONS: Yosemite experiences all four seasons which bring occasional stormy weather and power outages. Winter driving conditions can exist from November to April, and you are required to carry tire chains during those months (even on 4-wheel drive vehicles). The dates can change depending on the weather. To find out what the current restrictions are, call Caltrans and inquire about HWY 41, or visit their website. You can buy chains at almost any auto parts store. We do not supply them. There will be no refunds due to inclement weather or power outages.

LAUNDRY: Washers and dryers are available at our main office building, the machines are complementary, however, we do not provide detergent. There is detergent available for purchase at the local "Pine Tree" market.

Access to Yosemite and Nearby Attractions- Yosemite National Park, like many others across the United States, has implemented a reservation system in recent years to manage visitor numbers effectively. Since this home is located INSIDE Yosemite National Park, you will NOT NEED a separate entrance reservation, only proof of your lodging reservation (please see official park website for details). We highly recommend that visitors planning a trip to Yosemite stay informed by regularly checking the National Parks websites and affiliated sources for any updates regarding the reservation system. While we strive to provide our guests with an exceptional experience, it's important to note that access to Yosemite or nearby attractions cannot be guaranteed, especially during peak seasons. By staying informed and flexible, visitors can better navigate their travel plans and make the most out of their trip to this beautiful region.

Kitchen- The kitchen is stocked with pots, pans, cookware, cups, silverware, and more! Our housekeeping team leaves out salt, pepper, and a can of cooking spray. Friends, family, and other guests sometimes leave spices, aluminum foil or ziploc bags at the home. You are most welcome to use any of these items, but if something is particularly crucial to the success of your meals, we do recommend bringing it along with you.

Linens- Our vacation homes are some of the few in the Yosemite area to use professionally laundered linens. All linens are professionally serviced for each and every reservation. The linens are washed in commercial grade washers with stronger hypoallergenic detergent than you would find in a residential washer. All linens are then pressed with an iron at 300° F, vs. a standard home dryer that only reaches 160°. You are not likely to find this level of service in other vacation homes.

Fireplace- Kindly note that any type of wood burning is typically unavailable in the summer and fall months, due to heightened fire risk in the area. Propane fireplaces and BBQ grills are usable year round.

Dog Friendly! - This property IS dog friendly! Please indicate that you will be bringing a dog when you make your reservation and a $75 dog fee per dog will be assessed. This $75 covers the entire stay, and is not a per day charge. There is a 2 dog maximum at the property. Please do not allow your dog on the furniture or leave your dog in the home unattended and use a leash when outside, per county ordinance.

Parking- There is enough parking for 4 cars at this property. We appreciate you not exceeding the maximum parking limit. Many of the local roads are privately owned and privately maintained. Please be mindful to obey speed laws and drive slowly in residential neighborhoods!

Other things to note
Early or Late Check-ins- Early check ins are often difficult for our team to accommodate. If you would like to check in early, please reach out to us after 2PM on the day of your arrival so we can check with our team. If you need guaranteed early check in, we recommend booking the night before your arrival so that you may check in as early as you wish. For checkout, most vacation homes have a 10AM check out in our area. We provide an 11AM checkout, and unfortunately can rarely offer a later checkout.

Occupancy- Maximum occupancy at any time of 8 guests regardless of age. Infants are included in total. This is strictly enforced. No events/weddings/large dinner gatherings/guests over just to visit.

Chains- California Highway Patrol and the National Park Service may require chains in wintery/snowy/icy conditions. Please ensure you are bringing a vehicle and necessary equipment capable of navigating in these conditions.

Insurance- Travel Insurance is provided as an option during the checkout process. Please note that as hosts, we cannot protect your trip from flight delays, illnesses, weather, job loss, or other circumstances that may prevent you from making your trip. We truly wish we could! We STRONGLY suggest purchasing some type of Travel Insurance so that you may protect your vacation investment from unforeseen circumstances that may prevent you from making your trip. It's a nominal cost that can absolutely pay off!

Mail- Due to locked neighborhood mailboxes, we ask you not mail anything to the property. You are most welcome to mail items to our office (Love Yosemite! Vacation Rentals) in Oakhurst. Please reach out to us to make arrangements.

Calling Us - After booking, you are always welcome to call us at our main phone number, 24/7. That number does not receive text messages, but you will receive a text from us after booking and you can respond to that text thread any time you like. We check text messages regularly during the day and early evening.

Please note this property is nestled in the breathtaking Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, offering a serene escape into nature. However, being in such a pristine environment means that you may occasionally encounter some of nature's residents, such as ants, spiders, insects, mice, and cobwebs. We take every precaution, including regularly scheduled professional pest control to minimize these occurrences, but they are a natural part of the mountain experience and may get past our defenses from time to time. If you do notice any of this during your stay, please let us know so we can promptly address them and ensure your comfort.

We have directions inside the welcome binder in the cabin, its actually pretty easy!

Other things to note
Our family has made Yosemite National Park our home for over 80 years. And actually we’ve been providing accommodations to travelers for just as long. I was born in Yosemite Valley...in the midst of a blizzard, of course. My life is here, my happiness is this place, my success is defined by the experience of each person I am fortunate to know as my guest. Maintaining vacation homes throughout the year can be challenging. We get everything right in every home about 1% of the time. The rest is communication, and doing our best to make your cabin and our amazing corner of Yosemite feel like home to you. We’ll answer your question, guide you to the trail along the river, find that something missing in the kitchen, repair or replace the thing that broke, bring you the extra towel or toilet paper - always as quickly as we’re able. I think this year we might even reach the next milestone of success. You know - 2%!

All linens are then pressed with an iron at 300° F, vs. a standard home dryer that only reaches 160°. You are not likely to find this level of service in other vacation homes.

Bunkbeds- (only if property has a bunk bed)- Please note that due to California Worker’s Compensation restrictions, housekeeping will not be able to make the top bunk prior to arrival. Fresh sheets, bedding, and pillows are absolutely provided for it though!

Fireplace/Firepits- Kindly note that any type of wood burning is typically unavailable in the summer and fall months, due to heightened fire risk in the area. Propane firepits and BBQ grills are usable year round. Since the property has an adequate heating system, firewood is not provided. You are most welcome to bring any for your own ambiance if you wish, or you may use any that might be at the property left by friends, family, or other guests.

Pet Friendly- This property is NOT pet friendly!

Parking- There is enough parking for 4 cars at this property. We appreciate you not exceeding the maximum parking limit. Many of the local roads are privately owned and privately maintained. Please be mindful to obey speed laws and drive slowly in residential neighborhoods!

Guest access
Guests have access to the full cabin, except a locked 4th bedroom full of owner's items.

Occupancy- Maximum occupancy of 10 guests regardless of age. Infants are included in the total. This is strictly enforced. No having events/weddings/large dinner gatherings/guests over just to visit. This is a local zoning rule that is enforced inside Yosemite National Park. There are no exceptions.

Security Cameras- There are external only cameras on the premises that face certain entrance points of the home.

Chains- This property is located inside Yosemite National Park at an elevation of 4000 feet. Snow can often be expected from the late fall to the spring. California Highway Patrol and the National Parks Service may require chains and/or 4 wheel drive with snow tires in wintery/snowy/icy conditions.

LAUNDRY: Washers and dryers are available at our main office building, the machines are complementary, however, we do not provide detergent. There is detergent available for purchase at the local "Pine Tree" market.
