- "Great cabin!" - "Forest and Ginger's cabin behind their house is a beautiful retreat for vacation. My partner and I stayed in the cabin during our visit to Yosemite; it's about an hour drive to the western park entrance, and about two hours from the cabin to the Yosemite Valley. The cabin itself is very well maintained and has everything you need (outside of an oven/range, but the owners have a nice gas grill outside for your use). We enjoyed walking around Sonora during our day off from hiking and had breakfast at Bon Appetit multiple times (excellent French pastries, quiche, and crepes). Overall, we highly recommend!"

***** NOTES *****
*** Twain Harte Lake and Community Activities ***
Enjoy a scenic walk around Twain Harte Lake via the service road just behind the house. While the lake is private, you can still hike around its perimeter. For lake activities, we recommend visiting Pinecrest Lake. If you're interested in accessing Twain Harte Lake, we have a partner cabin with lake membership—just send us a message for more details.
Within a mile of the cabin, you'll find the Twain Harte Community Pool, tennis courts, mini golf, and golf course. The community pool's availability is posted on their website and will be closing for the season on Sept 26th. Pool fees are as follows:
Ages 3-17: $2.00
Ages 18-61: $3.00
Ages 62+: $2.00
Family Fee: $8 per family (up to 2 adults and 5 children)
Non-Swimming Parent Free with paid child. Children under 3 are free.
*** Wildlife and Nature Considerations ***
You're in nature! This is bear country, so please dispose of trash in bins and avoid leaving food outside. While bear sightings are rare, they do occasionally come into town. You may also encounter various insects and wildlife around the property. Sometimes, nature can even find its way inside.
*** Property Rules and Safety ***
No smoking, vaping, or candles are allowed on the property, both inside and outside. Due to the high fire hazard in our area, this includes the decks and driveway. Any sign of smoking anywhere on the property will result in a $500 charge.
If you plan to charge your electric vehicle, please notify us, as it incurs an additional $50 per charge due to the high cost of electricity.
*** Winter Weather and Trip Insurance ***
At high altitude, we may get snow in the winter. While the road to the home is plowed, we recommend all guests carry chains. Snow removal from the property is not provided by the hosts, but shovels and salt are available for guests.
Due to the remote location and variable weather, we recommend trip insurance. Weather conditions can lead to being snowed in/out, loss of power, or road closures. We do not accept liability for these situations or any other issues beyond our control and are unable to provide refunds.
*** Booking Confirmation ***
Please note that a signed renter agreement is required upon booking confirmation.

Our hosts, Katie and Sean, take extra care to ensure you feel welcome, like a few snacks, a couple bottles of water, and coffee. It was a nice touch. We were delightfully surprised by the lake view, and we loved the lights around the deck railing at night. We all hope to return soon."

Please be aware that this house can ONLY ACCOMMODATE 10 PEOPLE at any one time. Our septic system is delicate. It may be tempting to invite more people along considering the size of this house, but more than 10 people would lead to a malfunction of the system.
During the winter months, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOUR WHEEL DRIVE.
If you intend to use the outdoor grill, there is a $15 charge for propane. We no longer provide free propane due to the fact that too many guests abused the amenity.
If you have an electric car that needs charging at the cabin, you may use an extension cord to plug into an outdoor outlet. Please be sure to bring a 40 foot extension cord so there is no problem with reach. There is a charge of $15 a day for electricity for each electric car. We will give you a code to gain access to the outlet. There are also fast charging EV charging stations in Black Oak Casino and Adventist Health Hospital in Sonora. The hospital is along the way if you are coming from the bay area or an easy stop on the way back.
House Rules:
1. Maximum of 10 people at the house at one time.
2. Absolutely no smoking in the house. We discourage smoking of any kind due to the possibility of fires, especially in fire season. But if you must, there is a grey ashtrays on the deck outside the front door. Please look for it.
3. No open fires in or around the property.
4. Please no shoes or pets in the house.
5. Quiet hours are 10pm – 8am. Please be respectful of our neighbors.
We HIGHLY recommend trip insurance. You never know when a personal emergency might strike. Also trip insurance would cover inclement weather or even fire scenarios. During booking, you are given the option to add travel insurance.
Fires & Brownout
As most of you are probably aware, fires are a big problem in the California Sierras. In order to protect our communities from possible fires, PG&E occasionally turns off the power and even evacuates the area when a fire is close by. We have no control over these situations. If the authorities call for an evacuation, we will notify you via text as soon as we find out. You must evacuate the house immediately, please don't linger. There is only one main road going up to this area. You will want to evacuate as quickly as possible down this road.
If PG&E turns off the power or the power goes out, please be aware that we do not have a generator at the house. There are flashlight if you need them in the utility drawer in the kitchen.
- "Perfect house for our family holiday celebration. Clean and modern. Amazing views from every angle. Kitchen fully stocked and functional. Spotless bathrooms and brand new washer/dryer. Lots of indoor and outdoor space to share as a family, plus quiet rooms to retreat to for naps or chilling out. Beds and bed linens were extremely comfortable. Loved the hot tub under the bright mountain stars. Enjoyed watching movies, playing games, cooking together, decorating cookies, having coffee at dawn on the deck, all of it. And for outings during the day, we were close to wonderful hiking along the Tuolumne Ditch, fun kiddie playground in Twain Harte, and the very cool historic Columbia State Park a short drive away. We created many happy holiday memories here and would return in a heartbeat. Book this place!"

The Thompson Lodge has been in the family for decades and we hope you'll enjoy staying here. We've recently replaced the downstairs floors and renovated the downstairs bathroom, and are working on updating the rest of the cabin as well.
Cabin has one bedroom (with queen sized bed) and bathroom downstairs. Upstairs features a large loft (with king bed and TV), second bedroom (with two twin sized beds), and second bathroom upstairs. The house is kid friendly with puzzles, board games, toys, a high chair, and a Pack and Play should you need these. Enjoy the great views of the woods from every window!
Sometimes, from the deck you can watch deer walk through the yard on their way to and from the creek at the bottom of the property.
There's a lot to do nearby! We are a 5 minute drive to downtown Twain Harte, a 20 minute drive away from downtown Sonora, 25 minutes away from Black Oak Casino, 30 minutes away from Pinecrest Lake & Dodge Ridge Ski Resort, 30 minutes away from the town of Murphys, and 90 minutes away from Yosemite National Park.
Guests have access to entire cabin as well as two small, private lakes that are just a short drive away (Upper Crystal Falls and Lower Crystal Falls Lakes). If you need to do laundry, guests are welcome to use the washer and dryer which are located in the basement. Our property is not fenced in, but please respect our neighbors' yards.
We are available at anytime via phone or email if you have any questions, concerns, or need a recommendation.
Since we don't live on the premises, we may not be present at check in/check out.
Our cabin is located on a quiet, woodsy street in a hilly Twain Harte neighborhood and just a short drive away from downtown. Some of our neighbors are residents, while other cabins are vacation houses like ours.
From the deck you can see a small lake and, in the summer, hear the sound of kids splashing and swimming.
Park on our driveway or just off the street at the top of the property. Public transportation is lacking in the area and there are no sidewalks on our street.
The hilly roads in the neighborhood are great for cyclists! We can show you a great route if you're interested in riding around.
It gets really dark out here at night, so bring a flashlight!
Bedding and bath towels are provided. Beach towels are not provided. Board games and puzzles are located in the upstairs bedroom. Extra chairs and umbrellas for the deck are located in the basement.
Wi-Fi password will be made available upon check in. Depending on your cell phone provider, service can be spotty. The house has a land line should you need to make phone calls.
Please treat our cabin as if it were yours. Pets are not allowed. No smoking, candles, or fires allowed on the property.
***Please turn off upstairs heaters and all lights when you check out!***
Be sure to follow the simple checkout procedures on your last day at the cabin (these are printed in the house manual binder).
- "Visited Big Trees State Park, Pinecrest Lake, White Pines Lake, Moaning Caverns, Murphy’s, Sonora and the Red Apple for Pie and Donuts! This is a really cute cabin and was the perfect place to for my husband and I and our three adult children to hang out and relax. It has everything you might need during your stay. - "Our party consisted of three families, with young kids, youths, and adults. Our stay was comfy, as the cabin was cozy, clean, yet also very spaccious. Both cozy and spacious could be true at same time. The common area living room and dining was open with good flow, and great for the families to gather and kids to play. The deck was very spacious and we enjoyed toasting marshmellows while hanging by the fire. The views up there are fantastic. The bedrooms are all very roomy, and the inflatable queen beds are easy to setup and very solid quality that helped accommodated our big group. We did not feel crammed at all. Lastly, the owner (Nav) was very responsive when we noticed a couple issues, and good to work with. We look forward to coming back in the future."

Coded entry was perfect made it easy to access during check in upon arrival." - "My family and I drove up from San Francisco, and arrived at the home tonight. I am 8 months pregnant, so you can imagine how disheartening it felt to arrive and realize we’d need to find another place to stay late at night, last-minute. We’re now paying over $800 for two rooms and two nights at a motel. It’s not the weekend we imagined, but I can’t clean the sheets myself tonight nor is it feasible to wait for a cleaning crew and relocate from hotel back to the rental tomorrow. It’s also not safe for me to stay in a place filled with cigarette smoke. The house was so dirty, with toenail clippings, mud, and trash all over the floor when we walked in. The toilet hadn’t even been flushed and very clearly someone was just smoking in the house before we arrived. When I walked in, I was actually scared that someone was still in the house. All of the pillows were pulled off the sofas and there were wet, dirty towels on the cushions. Every bedroom had trash on the floors and sheets flung everywhere. The bathtub was filled with dirt and there was a dirty razor and hair on the vanity counter. The sink was full of dishes and the stove was covered in old food. The fridge had a raw steak in it."

Our cabin getaway is perfectly located & will give you a chance for a peaceful retreat in the mountains. Located 30 minutes from Murphys, Pinecrest Lake & Dodge Ridge & only 15 minutes to Sonora, Twain Harte and Columbia State Historic Park, this beautiful cabin nestled in the woods will give you access to all of the best the Sierras have to offer. Whether here to explore or just to relax in the woods, you will feel right at home cozying up to the fireplace or enjoying the view from the porch.
Relax into the cozy "hygge" life at our 1972 A-frame. Mid century and well curated amenities welcome you to cabin life and the peace of the forest. Stay in to enjoy Aframe living amongst tall oak, pine and cedar and access our nearby National Forest trails and Private Lake; or use the cabin as a base for exploring the Sierras: we are 90 min from Yosemite Big Oak Flats gate, 30 min from Dodge Ridge and 20 min from Pinecrest and Sonora. Ideal setting for a couple's getaway or small family retreat.
The space
Mid century modern decor, easy access to nature and cozy atmosphere make the Scandinavian concept of "hygge" come alive at our Sierra Hygge Haus. The cabin sits in a residential neighborhood surrounded by trees yet is close enough to Twain Harte for access to supplies or a meal out.
Our kitchen is well stocked for those who enjoy cooking in and is highlighted by original vintage design features. The six burner gas stove is ready for your culinary endeavors (or at the very least lazy Saturday morning pancakes!), and french press coffee maker, tea kettle and fondue set are at the ready. Dining al fresco under the pines is made easy by the large patio table and gas grill on the back deck. The open dining area and living room make for an excellent gathering space for meals and games and conversation.
There are two bedrooms, a loft and two bathrooms in the cabin: it works well for a couples weekend away, a small group of friends or family. The master bedroom upstairs has a king-sized bed with Tuft N Needle mattress, writing desk, and space for a pack'n'play to be set up (it is located in the closet nearby). Down the hall is the upstairs bath (with toilet and shower) and a loft area with books, television, telescope and last but not least a beautiful second floor patio perfect for some morning yoga or cup of coffee.
The second bedroom is on the main floor down the hall from the kitchen and features a large bunk bed with a full sized bed on the bottom, a twin on top and a twin trundle underneath (essentially a triple bunk, sleeps up to 4). This room has wooded views out two large windows and a small closet with children's books and toys. Across the hall is the second bathroom with tub and shower and laundry facilities should you require them.
There is a gas grill outside on the back deck and two tables and chair sets which make for excellent evenings on the patio. There is a smart TV in the loft so you can log into your streaming services or put in one of our DVDs for a movie night. TV not your thing? The living room has a record player and collection of eclectic vinyl to occupy your time, and there are books for all ages throughout the house, with special selections detailing the life of John Muir and the Sierra region. Kids (young and old!) can play and roam outside in the yard or walk the neighborhood while adults relax with a drink on the large patio which spans three sides of the house. There is public BLM/National Forest land access just short walk from the cabin where you can walk among the many mule deer through the woods.
If you have children in your group, we are child friendly and have pack n'play, high chair attachment, utensils, etc on site.
Important Note for SUMMER guests: our vintage 1972 cabin retains its environmentally friendly natural cooling system from the 1970s, meaning NO AIR CONDITIONING. Ceiling and floor fans + cool night air + heavy drapes to shut out the hot mid day sun worked for the past 40+ years and it still works most weeks at the cabin. However please note in exceptional July or August heat wave it will not be comfortable to sleep in the "peak" of the A in the upstairs master bedroom.
For each booking, we donate a small portion of the proceeds to the Tuolumne River Trust--thank you for helping protect our local watershed and the beauty of the Sierras!
Note: Parties and events of any kind including photo shoots are prohibited unless officially arranged with the host. Make sure your reservation accounts for every person staying. Please do not invite extra guests over other than those included in your reservation.
No dogs or animals of any kind are allowed.
The cabin is designed to be both stylish and vintage, yet comfortable. It is in a rural subdivision, so there are neighbors nearby, yet immersed in nature. Please feel at home - we hope you enjoy our space nicely as you would your own. There is absolutely no smoking in the house, backyard or on the deck, and no pets or animals allowed. The house lends itself to entertaining but is NOT a party house - this is a family neighborhood that respects quiet hours between 10pm-7am.
There is fast internet access throughout the house and on the patio.
This house is ideal if you want a quiet and well appointed retreat, conveniently located in the forest about 10 minutes outside the quaint mountain town of Twain Harte and 20 minutes up the hill from historic Sonora - we hope to welcome you!
We offer a 5-night Sunday to Friday remote work retreat special for $1000. Please message us through the Airbnb app to request the special rate.
Guest access
Guests will have access to the entire house, apart from select closets and storage areas, and the basement area beneath the cabin.
Owner and Owner’s Agent shall have no liability for damages or injury to Guest or Guests. The supervision and safety of all children are the direct responsibility of guest or parents, or caretakers of any children on the premises. Guest specifically accepts ALL liability for use of playground equipment on the property and understands that Owner and Owner’s Agent shall have no liability from any accidents, injuries or death that may result from the proper or improper use of said playground equipment. Guest accepts said liability by voluntary use of said playground equipment.
Other things to note
Access
Our property has a flight of stairs that lead to the main level of the cabin. Additionally, there is a staircase that leads up to the loft / second bedroom. Our cabin does not have ramps or wheelchair access currently; although we hope to offer in the future.
Snow
In winter, snow chains can be required on Hwy 108 and the roads leading to the cabin. Please keep apprised of weather conditions and have chains available should you need them.
We have provided a shovel for the property, located at the rear door where you will enter. We do not have a snow service and you will be responsible to shovel as needed during a snowstorm.
Parking
We have flat gravel driveway that parks up to three average sized vehicles in the summer and one large SUV or two small vehicles in the winter. In the winter months if it is snowing you will be required to park on the driveway and not the road. This is to ensure that the snowplow vehicles are able to plow. This might require shoveling snow on driveway to access a parking spot.
Wood Stove
In the winter months only we allow pre-approved usage of the wood stove. We recommend bringing up (or buying locally at nearby gas station or Twain Harte Market) dry firewood and fire starter sticks to help start a fire in the woodstove. Please do not burn wet wood or anything besides dried hardwood.
Groceries
The closest grocery store is Twain Harte Market right up the mountain in Twain Harte (10 min. drive). They have an excellent selection of food, wine, cheeses, and some local specialities. If you are coming from the Bay Area and would like to get groceries on the way, the Grocery Outlet just off the 108 in Oakdale has a decent selection of BIO/organic foods, wine and snacks). And while there why not take a look at the Cowboy museum!! There are also many excellent rural farm stands between Manteca and Oakdale that offer local produce and even fresh baked pies during the holidays season. We especially love the Oakdale Gouda shop!!

Please be aware that this house can ONLY ACCOMMODATE 10 PEOPLE at any one time. Please include children in your 10 person count. They generate the same amount of waste water as an adult. Our septic system is delicate. It may be tempting to invite more people along considering the size of this house, but more than 10 people would lead to a malfunction of the system.
We HIGHLY RECOMMEND TRIP INSURANCE. We do not give refunds for extreme weather or personal issues. Trip insurance would cover inclement weather like a big snow storm, fire scenarios, or even your group's personal issues. During booking, you are given the option to add travel insurance.
Please note there is an extra cleaning charge for bringing glitter into Eagle View Retreat. If you bring more than 10 people (children included), there will be extra charges per person due to wear and tear and cleaning. If the extra people causes damage to the septic system (which is why we have a 10 person maximum), you will be responsible for the cost of repairing the system and house.

Directions: When you see the yellow ‘NO OUTLET' sign along Pack Trail Road, you are very close to the cabin driveway. Most of the mapping apps out there tell you that you’ve arrived prematurely. There is a yellow sign directing you to the next driveway that has a green sign with our address. The driveway is a bit steep, so please be careful driving up.
If you are driving a vehicle that is low to the ground, please park your car at the first driveway with the yellow sign. Otherwise, the car will bottom out when trying to make the transition from the road to the real driveway. In the winter months when there is snow and ice on the roads, we highly recommend an all wheel or four wheel drive vehicle.
Do be careful driving up our driveway with a sedan. We would recommend approaching the lip of the driveway on the left where the street trough is not as deep. The trough is for water drainage and mandated by the county.
When arriving at the house, we would recommend parking the car at the top of the driveway to unload your luggage. If you plan to park the car at the top, please turn your wheel to the left, so if there is a mishap with your breaks, the hill will stop your car. If you don’t feel comfortable parking at an angle, we recommend parking on the gravel driveway at the level of the garage.
Please enter the house on the 2nd level. Walk around the house until you end up at the front door. A couple of days before your arrival we will give you a door code. Please wait a second …… to give the lock time to unlock. Locking the door is as easy as shutting the door and pressing the lock button at the bottom right.
If you are like me, the first thing you’ll want to do is open the sliding doors to go onto the deck. In addition to the door lock, there is a security bar at the bottom of the sliding door track. Please pick it up and mount it to the bracket at the side of the sliding door before trying to slide open the door. This is true of the sliding door on the third floor king room as well.
Other things to note
House Rules:
1. Maximum of 10 people at the house at one time.
2. Absolutely no smoking in the house. We discourage smoking of any kind due to the possibility of fires, especially in fire season. But if you must, there is a grey ashtrays on the deck outside the front door. Please look for it.
3. No open fires in or around the property.
4. Please no shoes or pets in the house.
5. Quiet hours are 10pm – 8am. Please be respectful of our neighbors.
We have some neighbors that are highly sensitive to sound. Please bring the fun indoors at 10pm.
During the winter months, we HIGHLY recommend four wheel drive.
And We HIGHLY recommend trip insurance. Trip insurance would cover inclement weather like a big snow storm or even fire evacuation scenarios. During booking, you are given the option to add travel insurance.
Fires, Brownout, Snowstorms
If there is a big snowstorm, there is a strong possibility that the roads will be closed for a few days and there might be a blackout if power lines are disrupted. This means that you will not be able to come to the house. And If you are already at the house, you may be snowed in and/or without electricity for a few days. So, please be prepared for the possibility of being house-bound for a few days.

At high altitude, we may get snow in the winter. While the road to the home is plowed, we recommend all guests carry chains. Snow removal from the property is not provided by the hosts, but shovels and salt are available for guests.
