The bathroom was absolutely fantastic - huge stand alone bathtub, giant shower with a bench, heated floors!!! Separate toilet of course The room had its own Fireplace… beautiful and functional when it was cold and two very comfortable classy leather recliners to relax in after a day of walking around Carmel. I didn’t want to go back to our room at the Ritz it was so good. They also offer to deliver some fruit and croissants and coffee/tea/juice to your room in the morning. Just enough to help get you going. Great comforter/duvet and soft sheets… and the farm doors were so much fun and perfect for the weather. My kids loved to keep the top part open with the bottom closed and play in the courtyard with the beautiful water fountain and around the communal fireplace. Really great spot!! You won’t regret it. Other things to note
It's pretty unique....of a slowly and sadly dissapearing era......one block from downtown but in a quet garden setting. Leave your car and walk the town or the beach. Bear in mind that the studio and attached house is nearly 100 years old so if you want modern granite counter tops and such.....this isn't it.

Cozy urban retreat in the heart of Downtown Salinas. Private studio with separate entrance located behind the main house. One private parking space with additional parking on the street.

The space
The studio has a small courtyard patio with two chair upon entry. A towering redwood and lush potato tree are the canopy for privacy while you sip coffee in the morning or enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. There are two sets of French doors with screens to the unit. They can be opened fully to bring the outdoors in and allow for cross breeze. There is a large comfy couch, table and chairs, umbrella, Heat lamp, fire table and fire pit, board games, lots of extra pillows and blankets as well as towels. The kitchen is a full kitchen with gas range, refrigerator, microwave and pantry filled with essentials for cooking. I provide bottled water and a basket of grab and go snacks as well as oatmeal, coffee, tea, cream and sugar. The queen bed is a temperpedic low profile mattress with cozy linens and pillows. Lots of space for up to 4 guests with a queen air mattress available as well as a twin temperpedic roll away. There are candles, a flashlight and large fan supplied in case needed. The bathroom is large and open with a stall shower and custom antique vanity. Soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, q-tips, cotton balls, and hair dryer are stocked. Luggage racks, vacuum, broom, dustpan, iron and board are stored in the hall closet. A styrofoam cooler, beach towels and umbrella are available to use for a day at the beach.

The backyard is large and open. It is shared with next door unit. Outdoor string lights, yard games, fire table, sectional sofa, heat lamp, wood fire pit, outdoor table and 4 chairs, umbrella, and a smaller table with two chairs all make up the space to enjoy a day of fun or a night to remember. An extra tall industrial fence provides ultimate privacy in a downtown environment. Please be respectful of the shared space and the other guests. There is a 10:00pm noise ordinance that will be enforced.

There is one parking space in the driveway (directly in front of the gated entry) and plenty of street parking should you arrive in more than one vehicle. A “Ring” door bell is at entry to provide safety and security.

*Note* This is a NO Smoking unit. This includes cigarettes, vape, cigars, marijuana, cloves etc… a $250 fee will be charged for smoking inside the unit.

Parking for the studio is behind the main house through the adjacent alley. There is one parking space available directly in front of the entry gate. A lock box is on the fence for self check in.

Easy access to Highway 101 north and south. Direct access to Highway 68: 20 minutes to Monterey, Carmel or Pacific Grove. Big Sur is a gorgeous one hour drive down Highway 1 outside of Carmel. A short 5-minute walk will find you in quaint Old-town Salinas. Stop in and say hi to Colin and Lauren at Farmer's Union Pour House for a large selection of craft beer and local wines. Grab a skirt steak sandwich and garlic fries at Dubbers Sports Bar. Other dining includes Patria for mediterranean, Gino’s for italian, Growers Pub for steaks and salads. For mexican food try Villa Azteca or for the best molcajete and chavela in town, walk across the street to Casa Del Sazon! The historic Steinbeck Center is a 10-minute walk to the end of Old-town. The Maya movie theater, Farmer's market and the Ariel theater can also be enjoyed. For locally owned boutique shopping, don't miss Bliss Boutique, Head over Heels, and The Little Mustard Seed. Wander down Fisherman's Wharf and stop in at Fisherman's Grotto for some award-winning clam chowder. You can also book a whale-watching excursion at the kiosk at the end of the wharf. Take a drive to Pacific Grove along Ocean View Blvd and stop at Lover's Point Park for a picnic and kid-friendly swimming. Continue on to the tide pools along Ocean View and eventually arrive at the gates of 17-Mile Drive. If you arrive at sunset, stop in at Spanish Bay to hear the famous bagpiper. The Monterey Peninsula is known for a very wide selection of good to very good restaurants and dozens of tasting rooms featuring wines and olive oils made locally and in nearby wine growing regions of California. There are about 20 tasting rooms just up the road in Carmel Valley Village and more in downtown Carmel. There are also several notable restaurants nearby.

Sport Activities
The signature sport of the Monterey Peninsula is golf. Some 16 golf courses await, among them the famous courses of Pebble Beach including Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, Poppy Hills and Spanish Bay, all accessible to the public. Many other challenging and scenic courses are also available – Bayonet and Black Horse, Quail Lodge, Del Monte, Laguna Seca, Carmel Valley Ranch, Pasadera and Corral de Tierra are all within about a 20 minute drive from the guest house.
Other sport activities are available throughout the peninsula. There are several scenic hiking trails within a short distance. The entrance to Garland Ranch, with miles of scenic trails, is just one mile from the guest house. Bicycling is everywhere on all the local roads. Whale watching, scuba diving and kayaking on Monterey Bay are popular aquatic activities and the Monterey Bay Aquarium is a must-see attraction.

Shopping
Carmel-by-the-Sea is shopping central, specializing in art from both local and international artists, with clothing stores, many specialty stores and dozens of restaurants. Del Monte Center in Monterey features a number of national brand stores as well as a multiplex theater and several restaurants. The Barnyard and Crossroads shopping areas, both at the mouth of the valley, are about 10-15 minutes from the guest house.

Special Events
As a vacation destination, Monterey is also host to a large number of special events every year. The annual AT&T golf tournament always attracts top players and the US Open is played periodically at the Pebble Beach venues. The Monterey Jazz Festival, the motorcycle Gathering at Quail Lodge and several other festivals take place throughout the year. The Big Sur Marathon attracts some of the best runners in the world. Possibly the best known event is the Pebble Beach Concourse D ’Elegance and auction. Through the years so many other car events have been added at venues around the Peninsula that locals now speak of “car week,” which features some six or seven important auctions, specialized single-make car shows and the Historic Races at Laguna Seca featuring the beautiful race cars of the post-war era.

The guest unit on our property is very private and separated from our main house. The guest unit includes approx 550 sqft of living space and a large exterior patio space. The guest house garage is off limits as it is used by our family for storage. There is a fence dividing the two spaces and provides you and us with privacy during your stay.

**Important** Cachagua Road is paved, winding and narrow. We advise arriving before dark. Use turnouts to pull over for locals who may be driving faster. Make sure to throughly review and screenshot ALL picture checkin instructions prior to driving up Cachagua Road as you will temporarily lose service.

This is a guest studio up in Los Padres National Forest. The main home sits 30 ft above this space and may be occupied during your stay.

You have private access to the deck and spa that sit below the tree house which are for your exclusive use.

Other things to note
-Make sure to bring all your needed groceries and beverages as you are a 15-20 minute drive from Carmel Valley Village and there are no grocery stores nearby. I provide basics like salt, pepper and Keurig coffee pods.

-Guests will have no cell service on our property but you can connect to wifi to enable wifi calling and text messaging.

-WIFI: is good for text and emails. Do not expect to be able to download movies very fast or other data. Do not expect to work fully from your computers--expect to unwind and relax. If you need to work, I recommend driving down to the village and hooking up to faster wifi at a coffee shop. For now, satellite internet is the fasters option up here. I am waiting for Star Link to release its new satellite internet so that I can subscribe.

-I have ATT and can receive phone calls at the entrance of the home and on the other side of the pool by the shed.

-GPS will take you past our entrance because our location is not accurately marked. Please follow my picture check-in instructions.

-Our property is 8 miles (15-20 minutes) from Carmel Valley Village. The drive is on narrow, winding country roads which are dark at night. Plan to arrive during daylight if it is your first time at the property. Please do not plan to travel into town to restaurants or weddings for heavy drinking and expect to drive back to the home safely. Drive safely and use pull out spots to pull over if locals are driving faster behind you.
***ALTERNATIVE route: keep driving on Carmel Valley Rd toward Tassajara Rd and then onto Cachagua Rd.

-Bring your camera to snap some nature shots, or better yet, just be in the moment.

-My gardener will be on-sight to do grounds maintenance every Wednesday

Our whole neighborhood is affluent and beautiful with plenty of beaches to explore. It is the perfect place to stay and visit remote Big Sur to the south, but also be close to the incredible restaurants & shops in Carmel.

The cottage is located within a 6 minute walk to the Pebble Beach Lodge and the Pebble Beach Links Golf Course.
The Pebble Beach Food and Wine show and the Gooding & Company car auction, which is part of the world renowned yearly Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach, is one block away.
The Spanish Bay Resort is a short drive away where you can listen to the romantic sounds of a bag piper, with the ocean as a backdrop, playing nightly on the outside terrace.
The cottage has one bedroom with a queen size bed, a large closet, a dresser and a little sitting area next to french doors that open up to the private, quiet terrace. It has one bathroom.
The family room has a cozy gas fireplace and a flat screen TV. The kitchen has everything a heart desires. A Wolf 4 burner gas stove and oven, a regular size fridge and freezer, a sink, a toaster oven, Keurig coffee machine, toaster, blender, dishes, silverware, utensils, glass and cookware. It is also equipped with a dishwasher.
We will have the cottage cleaned professionally prior to your arrival and you will find cozy bathrobes, extra pillows, blankets, towels and beach chairs in the closet. Wifi and IPod/iPhone sound system connectivity is also available.
The property is gated and you will have your own parking space right in front of the cottage.

No matter, if you are an avid golfer, car lover or foodie, by staying at the cottage you are in walking distance of it all! Walk to the Bench, one of the restaurants at the Pebble Beach Lodge, sit outside on the restaurant terrace by a cozy, warming fire overlooking the 18th hole and the ocean and enjoy some of the most amazing sunsets, good food and wine. Or walk to the famous golf tournaments and the Concours d'Elegance that takes place at the Pebble Beach Lodge. No driving to the crowded parking lots and waiting for shuttle buses.
