My Artist's Treehouse and Artist's Library couple-size apartments are at the top of the most popular in the Carmel/Monterey Peninsula area. Experience them.

A wide staircase winds up to the deck with table and seating (smoking allowed outside, only) and the double doors to the apartment. The all redwood building has a peaked, open beam, tongue and groove ceiling with cathedral-shaped stained glass windows on each end and screened windows throughout.

Carpeted with oak parquet in the full kitchen and tile in the full bath (shower)– the effect is light and lovely! Extremely well insulated, the Treehouse has a gas wall heater; in summer the ocean breezes come in early afternoon to cool and the days are FOG FREE.

A stay at Piney Creek Retreat is a break from life's daily grind. A newly built 40o sq ft. studio apartment steps from your spacious hot tub and pool. We live on the premises, but strive to provide privacy to our guest as well as assistance in trip planning, or any needs that may arise.

Literal steps from your room is a beautiful hot tub and pool. If you feel like stretching your legs, take a 5 minute walk down to our own creek. Stopping halfway down for views of our stunning cliffs.
We are 20 minutes from any town, restaurants, grocery stores ect, and thats a good thing.
Bring your own food to cook, or plan accordingly as you travel us. When you have "recharged" and want to see the sites, we are 10 minutes to the Arroyo Seco Camp grounds. 45 min. to the Pinnacles National Park with hiking climbing and a chance to see the incredible Condors. Just under an hour to Monterey/Carmel area with world class dining, shopping and art galleries, as well as the Monterey Bay Aquarium; and 1 hour from Big Sur.

- "Very nice host too." - "We stayed at Mary’s for a month waiting for our new condo to be painted, etc. it was a convenient and beautiful location.Mary is a gracious hostess and v friendly. Her room cleaner was not v thorough; we found a used water bottle under the bed and kitchen/bath area under table dirty. I should have mentioned that to Mary. “ Kitchen” and cooking items were great, except there was no sharp knife or cutting board. I pointed that out to Mary. We would definitely stay there again."

Our studio is located in Carmel, less than a mile from the town center. The house faces out over Hatton Canyon and affords a private rural setting yet close to Big Sur, Pebble Beach, Monterey, etc. 15 Minute walk to Carmel downtown. A hub to explore Big Sur and all the Monterey Peninsula has to offer.

Due to certain regulatory changes regarding minimum stay, the dates you are requesting may not be available. While we prefer longer stays, do make an inquiry to us about the dates you want.
The space
Our studio is located along the East canyon side of our mid-century ranch house, to which it is connected to (our laundry room only), but is totally private from our living space with sight and sound separation. It is a L-shaped studio with a vaulted beamed cathedral ceiling, recessed lighting, and distinctive hardwood flooring. The King size bed is slightly recessed into a cherry wood accent wall that Celine designed. The bedding is luxurious and includes a plush down comforter. While the central heating is controlled from our house, the fully insulated studio has an electric heater, if it gets too cool in the evenings.

The bathroom is in the retro 50’s style, yet fully renovated with custom cabinetry and a designer tile floor, restoring the original tub and shower. High speed WiFi access provided as is TV with full Xfinity X1, lots of movies. There is no stove, cooking utensils in the studio, so it's not set up for cooking. Yet we do provide a dining table and stools, large mini-fridge, toaster, kettle, large microwave and dishes. We also provide fresh ground coffee from artisan local roasters and a selection of teas and some light breakfast items.

There is a private patio for guests with table, chairs and bench to relax in and view the canyon. We provide ample off street parking, right to the studio and have two separate entrances completely separated from the main house. We renovated the house with the privacy and comfort of our guests in mind. Please note that this is a not a huge space and the max capacity is for 2 persons.

Long sofa in outer room for extra guest. Floor to ceiling windows looking at totally private forest area and wildlife. Deck is for your use as well, table and chairs. There is an outdoor grill. Great sunsets. Kitchen has a microwave/convection oven, toaster, hotpot, coffee press pot OR regular coffee maker, 1 burner, refrigerator and small freezer, all utensils, pans and dishware. We leave coffee and tea, snacks and oatmeal for guests. Use right side of driveway next to bushes. Walk down right side of house by where you parked along the path by firewood .(There is motion sensor lighting). Follow path around to rear of building and up 3 steps to deck entrance. (There is a "dog in yard" sign on the steps). Once on the deck do a left quasi U-turn and you will see your door. "Studio". The key will be under the doormat. Make yourself at home. Instructions are in the unit. Please keep deck gate closed.
Be sure to message us upon first arrival and departure at end of stay. If you plan to arrive at night, please let us know so we can leave a light on for you.

Other things to note
Please avoid booking if you are looking for a hotel type sparseness. This is the lower level of our home and most guests enjoy the books, LPs, etc.
There is a wood-burning fireplace and if it has been used recently, there is sometimes a woodsmoke smell. If you have sensitivity to that, please make note.

NOTE: The unit has a few steps up and steps down. The access is down a hill and exit back up hill (not particularly steep) so if your footing is unsure, this may not be the place for you. Not handicap accessible.

Some guests feel ceilings are low. One of us is 6' 3 with no issues.

We do love dogs. We have a sweet dog named Shawna. Reg and I live upstairs and are in and out. Please mention your pets when booking. Someone is always reachable for emergencies.

It tends to be chilly in evening, particularly. Portable heaters, extra blankets provided. There is also a portable fan if it is too warm. Windows do open.

When visiting this area, never turn your back to the ocean while on the beach because this area has what are called "rogue waves". If you walk the beaches with a dog, be sure to keep an eye out.

Petite but sweet studio built by our grandfather, Chaz, in 1940. It is one of four units formerly known as Piney Woods Lodge, where our grandparents welcomed travelers for years. We're excited to return Francy Free to its roots and hope you will join us (two sisters) in continuing their legacy. Studio is ground-level, easy to access and a short (1/2 mile) stroll through the woods to downtown and iconic Carmel beach.

The space
The studio is a one bedroom, one "waterroom." The bedroom has a queen bed, built-in desk, Smart TV, drop-leaf dining table and two chairs. The second room is a combo bathroom + kitchenette, with a shower/bathtub, toilet, sink, fridge and closet. Appliances include a refrigerator/freezer, microwave, hotplate, toaster oven, toaster, electric kettle, coffee grinder and coffee maker. This is NOT the space for big culinary adventures, but the small, private (i.e., fenced) patio is perfect for dining al fresco. Total square footage = 225.

A communal laundry room and lending library are in the building and available for your use upon request.

There is one designated parking spot that can accommodate two cars parked in tandem (front-to-back).

Guests can access the studio apartment and the private patio area. The shared laundry/library area is available upon request for longer stays.

Other things to note
This studio is part of a triplex. There is one unit above it and another in-front of it (i.e., studio is on the backside of the building, away from the street). Please be conscious and considerate of our long-term tenants. This is their home. And although the studio was renovated in 2018, Piney Woods Lodge is still an old home with some charming quirks.

Our peaceful treehouse is the ideal spot to relax while staying in beautiful Carmel. It is close to everything : white sand beaches, downtown Carmel by the Sea, Pebble Beach, the Carmel Mission...Carmel Valley, Monterey and beautiful Big Sur.... Also short walk to 4 PICKLEBALL COURTS (just far enough away so we don't hear the noise). We are unable to host assistance animals due to being highly allergic to pet dander and this causes my immune system to be compromised.

Cannery Row Bungalow is a romantic hideaway just for two 1 block from the Bay in Monterey, just steps from the beach and the Monterey Bay Recreation Trail. It is inside the Cannery Row Commercial District and within easy walking distance of Lighthouse Avenue dining and shopping. Evening city light views across the bay in the evening and views of whales, seals & fishing or sailing boats daily.


This private place is a quiet sanctuary from which to enjoy the best of the Monterey Peninsula, since it's conveniently located amongst some of the region's prime attractions, including the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row and the Lighthouse Shopping/Dining district. Stunning views and easy access 1/2 block away to the nearby rec trail, which links Pacific Grove with Monterey, Seaside and Marina, for those who want to bike or walk around the area.

Downtown Monterey and Pacific Grove are just a few minutes away by car, and it's just a 10-minute drive to a variety of other attractions, such as shopping & Dining in Carmel-by-the-Sea or world-class golf and sightseeing in Pebble Beach. Wine tasting and shopping are just 20 minutes' away in Carmel Valley, and the natural wonders of Big Sur are about 40 minutes' away.


This comfortable unit with antique & historic decor offers views over the lush garden from the living area through a large picture window that faces the bay and through the French doors from your cozy bedroom. You also have access to a small patio to the side that offers two adirondack chairs and a warm spot you can enjoy lunch al fresco or a glass of wine in the evenings. Your private parking space is steps away with room to stow beach gear or bicycles as needed.

Guests enter up a short front walkway up two steps to a raised entry with a glass front door. The entryway with large closet opens into a cozy living space that blends living room with nook containing a small fridge, microwave and coffee supplies. Easy-care carpeting and a comfortable couch for two and a large sofa table can be found here, as well as a work space containing a desk and chair and Monterey historical artwork & photography.

Dark leather and sturdy antique wood furniture are combined with modern conveniences. The large picture window looks out over the garden toward the bay, providing views day or night.

The bedroom features a queen bed with Leather headboard and soft quality bedding in crisp white. A Sony television with Directv & HBO, a small bureau and a small table perfect for two - All looking out over the garden to the bay.

The en suite bath features a clawfoot tub with a hand held shower, soft rugs and a large vanity with a wood-framed mirror, and lush towels on a warming rack.

There is one dedicated parking space to the right of the building. Additional paid parking is available on the street or 1 block away at the Parking Garage.

Please note that there is a rear unit attached to this rental that is occasionally visited by the Homeowner. They have a separate entrance and parking around the back and so your privacy will be assured.

The space
The apartment is located on the upper level of a 1920s renovated Monterey home. There are three units in the building, one partly below and one behind. There is very good separation of space and entrances. There are several places to sit outside and enjoy the views and nature. There are four parks, including one with tennis courts, within a half a mile. Cannery Row, the aquarium, Pacific Grove, asilomar beach and Pebble Beach are all within a few minutes. Great central location without all the traffic of carmel.

Other things to note
There is a utility charge payable by monthly guest for any usage that exceeds $200 per monthly billing cycle. This is for gas, electric and water combined. The typical bill averages $150 month (included.) This is to encourage awareness and conservation.

To document the stay as a long-term 30 plus night rental (and to avoid having to pay transit occupancy taxes of 12% ) the city of Monterey requires a rental agreement on file with both host and guest signatures. 😊 The agreement will reflect the same terms as the Airbnb stay. Guest will also receive Tenant disclosures required by the state of California for a monthly stay.

Great two bedroom space in Marina, CA. Resort is right on the beach, and you check-in at the Sanctuary Hotel front desk (directly adjacent). This condo style unit has two bedrooms with a king bed in the primary and two twin beds in the second bedroom, plus a queen murphy bed in the living area. There is also a full kitchen and a washer/dryer, along with a comfortable living room space. Plus access to the resort amenities (playground, pool, hot tub) and the beach.
