Property Description:

Five minutes from Carmel or Monterey, this secluded home is a dream get-away for a couple seeking quiet beauty and charm as a way to balance all the easily accessed fun of the Peninsula. This cottage, a secret paradise, is part of an architecturally exotic estate on 23 acres in Jack's Peak. It is a discovery you won't want to miss.

The entrance to the estate is gated and the Casita cottage guest house is completely secluded. It was recently remodeled and is very comfortable. It is about 575 square feet, with a combined kitchen/living area including a twin daybed for a third person/ child.
The one bedroom is ultra quiet with a comfortable King bed, privacy blinds, authentic Tibetan furnishings, and a "65 screen with WiFi. The glass-sided shower is tiled to the ceiling with limestone.
The patio area is private and lovely with a covered table surrounded by sequoia redwoods. The patio has a new HotSpring spa for soaking, an outdoor shower, Weber grill, an adjacent secret garden with overhanging grape arbor and fire pit for late night star gazing.
The house is heated when necessary by a wood burning stove/fireplace. (There is plenty of wood available on the deck to fuel the fires!). Space heaters are also available.
Casita Cottage guests will have ample secured private parking immediate to the guest house in the driveway.

Interaction with Guests and Guest Access:

The Host, Peterson, will greet you and go over essentials upon confirmation of the reservation and/or before your arrival at which time the main property gate code and his phone number will be made available. Please feel free to contact him for any questions or issues. There are other residents on the estate who could help in an all-out emergency, but privacy for all is the rule of the day.

The Neighborhood:

We love the birds! Owls, Redwing Hawks. Oh so many birds. We feed them, too. Our neighbors treasure their privacy and this is considered a rural neighborhood, with five acre minimums to build. Very quiet, and we ask our guests to be relatively quiet also.

There is also a small herd of sheep and goats maintaining the property vegetation who love any extra treats you might want to share on the way to a hike in Jack's Peak Regional Park (900 acres to hike and enjoy the view), which is an easy walk from our driveway.

LOVE your stay in our charming classic Carmel cottage located in the golden rectangle, with easy 7 block walks north into town or west down to the beach, and an easy 1.25 mile walk to the Carmel Gate onto Pebble Beach 17 mile drive (go west on 13th down to and left on San Antonio, cross Ocean and continue to the Carmel Gate and PB entrance). It has two comfortable bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. The front bedroom has a cal-king bed, with a bathroom and a stall shower. The back bedroom is a cal-king bed and the en suite bathroom has a shower tub. The living room couch is a queen hide-a-bed. High thread count linens on the comfortable beds make for a wonderful nights sleep.
The living room has a sitting/reading area with a skylight and large window overlooking the side patio. There is a wood burning fireplace, cable smart TV, free wifi, a game table, and comfortable seating. The kitchen has an eating area with table and chairs for 4. The eating area looks out on the back patio which has outdoor dining furniture and a propane fire pit. The cottage is 1200 square feet. There is a one car driveway and parking on the street which is just out of reach of the tourist traffic in downtown Carmel. Amenities include washer/dryer, gas stove, microwave, and fully stocked array of pots, pans, dishes, utensils. as well as well stocked array of spices for cooking. Enjoy the back patio and yard with a propane fire pit. The cottage is close to the Carmel Mission (3 blocks south), and Clint Eastwood's Mission Ranch (2 blocks south) for cocktails and/or dinner overlooking the sheep pasture and the ocean beyond.
It is 10-30 minutes to all the tourist destinations such as Big Sur, Rocky Point, Nepenthe, Carmel Valley wineries, golf courses (e.g. Pebble Beach, Spanish Bay, Poppy Hills, Black Horse, Bayonet, and Pacific Grove Muni), Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, and the Monterey Wharf.

Felt like a home away from home and was probably the best VRBO experience I’ve ever had." - "My family and I had the most amazing time at The Cypress Cottage! The neighborhood was nice and quiet and it was a very quick drive over to downtown Carmel. It's a perfect location for visiting both Carmel and Monterey.  Some details that I thought were nice: they welcomed us with the sweetest little note giving us a glimpse into the heart of their family. They offered us tea, coffee, and hot chocolate at the  coffee bar in the kitchen. They provided beach towels for us to use when we went to the beach which was wonderful since we didn't think to bring our own! The Forest Cottage

An exquisite two-story home nestled into a private redwood and oak glen, the Forest Cottage is your own piece of paradise. Established in the 1930’s as the original cottage on Heart Circle Mountain, the Forest Cottage has been lovingly remodeled, built out of the finest materials including Venetian plaster walls, tumbled marble, and art glass lighting. The retreat is meticulously cleaned with non-toxic cleaners, is pet-dander free, and features sparkling white linens dried in the Big Sur sun.

Upstairs, the romantic bedroom has two skylights for nights of star gazing, unobstructed by city lights. The queen sleigh bed is outfitted with a Tempur-Pedic mattress, a down duvet, and high quality linens. The large sitting area has a desk, love seat, armchair and Smart TV w/Bose soundbar & many streaming services.

The cottage features a full gourmet kitchen, which includes completely stocked cupboards of cooking implements and condiments, a full-sized refrigerator, stove/oven, and large dining area. There is also a BBQ on the patio where you can enjoy the beautiful yard with a custom redwood dining table. Take a nap on a full sized hammock for two, kick back and sunbathe on the chaise lounge chairs, or rejuvenate in the hydromassage hot tub under the canopy of redwoods and oaks, while listening to the sounds of the forest and flowing creek.

The Waterfall Trail

This serene path winds through a redwood forest along a private stretch of Palo Colorado Creek, leading to two enchanting lounge areas, surrounded by lush sorrel and ferns. At the halfway point, you’ll find Forest Glen, a magical haven where a meandering creek flows beneath a soaring old-growth redwood fairy ring. Further ahead, the trail ends in an intimate forest retreat, where a 10-foot granite waterfall cascades into a tranquil pool, framed by ferns, horsetails, redwoods, and oaks.

The Zen Trail

For breathtaking ocean, mountain, and valley views, follow the Zen Trail up Garrapata Ridge. Along the way, you might spot a bobcat or our resident fox near its den. At the summit, relax in a secluded lounge area beneath a natural oak arbor, with panoramic views of dramatic ridgelines and the Pacific on the horizon. Watch red-tailed hawks and peregrine falcons glide overhead as you take in a fog river pouring over the ridges or a stunning sunset.

Location, Location, Location! The Duplex is centrally located just a few houses down from Lovers Point & within one mile from Cannery Row with great eats, shops, people and the aquarium. Take a stroll down one of the many trails with never-ending picturesque ocean views. Quite a few impressive golf courses from Pacific Grove Golf Links to Black Horse/Bayonet (20 min drive) to the highly esteemed Pebble Beach Golf Courses on 17 mile drive. We are Dog Friendly.

Not easily walkable to Carmel business district - easily drivable and beautiful bay views!" - "This property is located in the Carmel highlands, very convenient for access to all points on the Monterey Peninsula. Pros: The VRBO part of the property is attached to the main house but in the back with its own entrance and heating/cooling system. There is a wonderful ocean view from all the windows. There is a lovely deck outside the entryway with a table a 2 chairs where we could watch the sea and sunset. The room has a refrigerator, microwave, hot water pot, 2 ceramic mugs, and a coffeemaker. The owner also had two wine glasses and a bottle of wine waiting for us. The entire place was immaculate, and the bathroom has big fluffy towels and bottles of shampoo and body wash in the spotless tub/shower. The bedding was good and the room lighting was adequate for reading. There were a total of three chairs in the room as well as a desk and working window blinds. The owner is friendly and caring, and made sure we could park our car safely away from the construction vehicles working at the house across the street. Cons: For some people, the many steps to get down to the VRBO unit might be too much, especially if carrying heavy luggage. However, we are in our 60's, and it worked out fine for us --We could hear voices and footsteps above us fairly early each morning. - The mattress was too soft for us"

The space
The kitchen has everything you need to cook and bake. The knives are sharp. The frying pans are cast iron. The counters are plentiful. The garden has oregano, rosemary and parsley to flavor yours dishes.

The living room boasts a coffee table that rises up to be a desk. The Fire TV is connected to the high speed internet. Chromecast is provided so you may send content from your phone to the TV.

The backyard is shared with the tenant in the separate backyard studio.

Pets - the backyard is a sand dune so it is very easy for dogs to dig under the fence and escape.

The space
The perfect writer’s or reader’s retreat. Our light-filled cottage in P.G.'s historic retreat area is just steps from shops, cafes and restaurants and a five-minute walk from Lover’s Point and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Built in 1905 and fully remodeled in 2000, the cottage has hardwood and tile floors, maple cabinets, a modern kitchen, skylights, and an updated bathroom with the original, claw-foot maid’s tub. The wrap-around garden features hydrangea, alstroemeria and poppies.

Perfect for two adults or a small family of three. Guests may park up to two vehicles on the street. The Queen-size bed in the bedroom opens to an ensuite bathroom. The 2 sofabeds in the living room have a twin-sized mattress each. (The loft is for owner's use ONLY.)

We provide guests with a password for our super fast WiFi network. There is no television but you can easily log into your devices. And there are plenty of books, beaches, tide pools, otters, whales, and the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium to entertain you.

The City of Pacific Grove was founded as a Methodist retreat and gradually grew into a town with full-time residents, rich in history. In contrast to Monterey, which grew up around the fishing industry, PG was a retreat for city folks looking to escape the cold summers of San Francisco. It's a small town full of quaint Victorian architecture and cottages like ours built on lots originally sold as sites for camping tents. Next door, Asilomar Park and Conference Center, designed by famed architect Julia Morgan, began as a retreat for the YWCA (Young Women’s Christian Association). The Point Pinos Lighthouse is the oldest continually operating lighthouse on the west coast.

The sheltered white sand beach at Lovers Point is ideal for families with small children, a jumping off point for scuba divers and a favorite photo spot for vacationing newlyweds. Each September a popular Triathalon attracts swimmers, runners, bicyclists, and enthusiastic spectators. Close by, there's the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Concours d'Elegance, the Pebble Beach Golf Courses, and so much more.

Our cottage is surrounded by natural beauty. You can walk, run, or bike along the beach. There’s also a beautifully manicured 9-hole public golf course for those who seek a quieter workout at considerably lower fees than those of more famous, nearby courses.

This is where John Steinbeck lived and earned his reputation as a writer of such novels as Grapes of Wrath, Cannery Row, and East of Eden. We are continually inspired by his creative work (we are both writers) and we hope you'll find the same guidance while you're here.

We’re on a quiet one-way street. Please be sure not to block our neighbors' driveways. When arriving late into the evening, please note that the houses are very close together so our neighbors appreciate your keeping noise (including car doors) to a minimum.

The local shuttle runs along Lighthouse (half block away), and you can take it all the way to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Cannery, the Monterey Hotel (or you can walk the Bay trail, sharing it with bicyclists, families with kids in strollers, and folks walking their dogs).

The cottage is free standing, so you share no walls with anyone else. We're only a text message or phone call away, so please don't hesitate to contact us.

Guest access
Guests are welcome to use the washer and dryer. We provide guests with a password for our WiFi network so you can stream movies on your laptop. There is no television but there are plenty of beaches, tide pools and otters along the shore and jellyfish as the Monterey Bay Aquarium to keep you busy. The loft is for owner's use only.

Other things to note
You're surrounded by great natural beauty. You can walk, run, or bike along the beach.There’s also a beautifully manicured 9-hole public golf course for those who seek a quieter workout.

Beach-style cottage located minutes from the beach and situated directly between Monterey and Santa Cruz.

The space
This cozy cottage acts as a great private retreat or family getaway. It includes a fully stocked chef’s kitchen and lounging area surrounding an electric fireplace. So grab a book or start the Roku TV and begin streaming your favorite show immediately. This cottage is full of possibilities.

A comfortable memory foam queen size mattress greets you in the bedroom complete with storage on either side of the bed for all your clothes. Also has a hanging rod inside to hang up your items. Nightlights are behind your head helping illuminate your phone as you share that great picture of the sea otters you took at the Monterey Bay Aquarium or to finish the last few pages of your favorite novel. Get some peaceful sleep because great adventures lie before you tomorrow!

The thoughtfully decorated bathroom includes a glass shower, small vanity and beach decor. Hand crafting antique barn doors allow you privacy from the living area and the bedroom.

Please treat these barn doors with care as slamming them can cause them to fall out of their tracks and can cause injury.

The kitchen has a lot of counter space with appliances and all the kitchen tools you need to make something special. Head over to the Phil's Fish Market (just two blocks from cottage!) for a local catch, stop by a produce stand for some local veggies and come back to this kitchen to make some great memories. Also included is a coffee maker with several coffee pods. This kitchen has it all.

The living room has a pull out couch with thoughtful decorative touches. We can promise you it is very comfortable. Additional linens are located in the coffee table/ottoman.

Our house is dog friendly however a $50 fee (per dog) required for their stay. Please do not allow your dog(s) on any of the furniture and beds. No dog(s) can be left in the unit alone or in the front. The front yard is gated so your loved one is safe and secure. If there are any pet hair on the furniture you will may be charged an additional $200 cleaning fee. We have a maximum 2 dog policy. Due to extreme allergies we are unable to accept cats.

We have toddler toys, a high chair and crib available upon request.

This property is a 30 day rental with a house cleaning once a week. The initial cleaning fee is for your final cleaning but we are requiring a cleaning weekly throughout the duration of your stay at the $75 rate.

Due to the central location of our cottage, within minutes you can be on your way to a variety of state beaches and parks. Beach-style cottage located minutes from the beach and situated directly between Monterey and Santa Cruz.

The cottage is part of a duplex so there is a shared wall this unit and the one next door, the Coastal Bungalow. We own and manage both of them and in a recent renovation added a whole lot of soundproofing between the spaces. You will hardly know the other guests will be there. You can check out the other property on our profile page.

The rear of the property is also ours and houses our personal vehicles and equipment for maintaining the rentals. This area is off limits to guests for safety reason.

Castroville is known for their artichokes and in 1948 Marilyn Monroe was crowned California's first "Artichoke Queen." In doing our research on the origins of the the artichoke festival we believe this property is the location of the original artichoke house. The first festival was located behind the property. So you will be sleeping in a historic home!

Dream of marine mammals on a solid wood, four poster Cal king bed with foam mattress. There's a vintage wardrobe with drawers and hanging space for your clothing. There's also a writing desk where you can be inspired by the likes of Steinbeck and Twain. There's also a white, vintage-look log stove to keep you extra toasty at night.

KITCHEN, MAIN COTTAGE
The kitchen is newly redone in vintage style charm: new 4-burner stove + oven (apartment-size), new dishwasher, refrigerator and lots of new butcher block countertop space for prep. We have a coffee maker that also boils water, toaster and lots of pots and pans for cooking.

LIVING ROOM, MAIN COTTAGE
There's a love seat and pub chair with foot stool to relax in around the flat screen TV. The vintage chest has extra blankets and cushions for your comfort. The gas heater here keeps the main cottage toasty. You will hear ticking and the fan, as it comes on to circulate air throughout.

BATHROOM, MAIN COTTAGE
The bathroom has a small tub with shower and new, modern fixtures with vintage charm.

LAUNDRY ROOM, MAIN COTTAGE
There's a new high-efficiency washer and gas dryer.


COURTYARD
One of the best features of our PG home is the large courtyard that lies between the two cottages. We have a lounge set and gas fire pit. We also have a pergola with custom redwood dining table.

At the front of the main cottage there's a charcoal grill and another patio table and two chairs for relaxing.

The 100-year-old Coast Live Oak tree has a swing in it that the kids love to play on. And we have our signature, three majestic Canary date palm trees. The yard is fully fenced, but please keep your pet inside and crated when you're not at home, as the city issues noise citations for barking dogs.

The guest house is located in a lovely neighborhood called Hatton Fields. Often it is sunny here when downtown is cloudy. We are a ~20 minute walk to beaches/town and 10 minute walk to trails with views, Redwoods and old Oaks.

The living room boasts 180-degree views of the rugged pacific coast which opens up to an oceanview deck, perfect to hang a hammock and spend the day.

Every room has an ocean view to enjoy. This off-the-grid cottage runs on solar power and uses propane for the stove and heater. Water comes from a freshwater spring on the property and is filtered at the tap.

Located off of Highway 1 about one mile up a public dirt road, the house is accessible by most vehicles with good ground clearance but due to recent storms that hit California the roads are pretty beaten up and a 4WD IS REQUIRED. THE ROAD HAS RUTS, AND DIVOTS AND GETS SLIPPERY IN THE RAIN.

The house is 100% off-grid with no municipal services and runs on solar power. Please plan meals not to use excessive energy.

Please note, there is another house on the property behind this cottage and the parking space and the driveway are shared.

Communication: There is no cell network or wifi in that area, please use the landline to communicate with me or for any emergency purposes. You can always reach out to your co-host. WE DO NOT HAVE INTERNET.

Water: The water comes from a natural spring and filters at the tap. You will get filtered water in the sink tap in the hot water option(down). We also have a Brita water Filtration Pitcher.

Electricity: The house runs on solar. Please be mindful of the lights. Due to the off-grid nature of the home, you should be prepared that power may not always be available. We have a generator and portable solar lights as a backup in case of a solar power shortage. The stove, refrigerator, and water heater work on propane and don't depend on solar power.

Once a VIP room where Hollywood & local legends gathered late into the night, today, the Loft is a relaxing spot where you can listen to soft music from the restaurant below or watch passerby's buying old fashioned candy from the Cottage of Sweets.

Sade's loft has its own private entry on Ocean Avenue and is located above Portabella Restaurant.

The Loft has been recently renovated and among its many features are hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings, natural light filled rooms, whimsically hand painted plaster walls and charming, beach themed decor.

At approximately 1,100SF, the front room consists of a common living area including kitchenette, dining table, pantry with refrigerator, and private bathroom.

Through the hallway are two separate bedrooms. The first bedroom has two twin beds and the second has a queen bed. Both bedrooms can accommodate a total of 4 guests comfortably.

In the living area, two additional sleeping cots are provided to accommodate 2 extra guests.

Kitchenette amenities include: Coffee, Tea & Spices, Dishware, Utensils & Cookware, Paper Products, Dish Soap & Sponge, Coffee Maker, French Press, Toaster Oven & Microwave, a Griddle, Hot Plate, Toaster and Insta Pot.

If any of the rules are broken the booking is immediately terminated and the full payment is forfeited and guests will be remove from the property.
By law the Monterey County demands a Transit Occupancy Tax of 10.50% of room stay rate, which is added to the studio rate and sent to Guests, through Airbnb, as a Separate Payment Request, after reservations have been formalized, usually within 7 days of Check-In.

The space
Come and experience all that it has to offer! Perfectly located within 3 blocks to downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea and a short 10 min walk to the beach.

In this beautiful home, you'll find high ceilings and light-filled spaces with lots of windows. Gas fireplace, a gourmet kitchen, 3 bedrooms, 2 large full baths, and beautiful patios and gardens.

There are 2 master bedrooms both with king-sized beds with luxury linens. There's an office with a desk, monitor, and a very comfortable twin-sized daybed (with trundle). In all of the rooms, there are glass patio doors leading out to cozy patio areas for relaxation. There's a full bathroom with a bathtub and walk-in shower located off the main hall. The lower bathroom has 2 sinks and a huge walk-in shower.

The kitchen contains a stainless fridge, Thermador range/oven with 4-burner gas stovetop, dishwasher, sink, coffee maker, Keurig, tea kettle, microwave, Cuisinart Airfryer and toaster. There are dishware, glassware, kitchen utensils, and pots/pans for all your cooking needs.

Guest access
The home is completely private and quiet. The back and side yards are secluded from other properties due to high fences, shrubs, and trees. You'll be delighted with its coziness and serenity.

You'll have use of our washer/dryer. We provide Comcast/Xfinity's highest-speed internet and a Smart TV in the living room with Roku control. You can log in to Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, Disney+, etc.

The main area has a cozy gas fireplace that you can turn on with a quick switch. Please be sure to turn off the fireplace when not in use.

You'll find a beach bag filled with towels and beach blanket for fun at the beach. There's also sand toys, drink/wine coolers, beach chairs, and even a mini table for that perfect beach picnic set-up.

You can park one car in the driveway, and any other cars in the street parking.
