Virtually every item, from floor to ceiling is recovered or recycled in some way.

The Garden: The bungalow is covered by a gorgeous and legendary Wisteria tree that is the star of the spring season.

The practice of 'Living Green' extends to the lush surrounding gardens. Old San Francisco cobblestones, recovered copper downspouts and perfectly placed architectural elements create a serene garden so creative you'd think you were on a movie set.

A Koi pond that is sometimes visited by elegant egrets, sits just outside the bungalow door. The garden is surrounded by three small aviaries that house small families of canaries. Their song and the sound of flowing water will lull you while you read a book in the sun on your own private patio.

The Neighborhood & Beyond: Developed in the late 1800s as a beach resort community, the modern day version still holds much of it's charm from the early 20th century.

Take a drive through the different neighborhoods and you'll see beautiful examples of California architecture. Perfectly restored Victorians share the same street with cute California Bungalows and Craftsman style homes.

Walking distance to College Avenue shops and restaurants, UC Berkeley and BART. Parking space available, but many people come without a car. Elmwood neighborhood has a library, bank, movie theater, 2 bookstores and many great restaurants and shops. Great location for visiting Berkeley, or as a base for exploring San Francisco and northern California.

Some of our earliest guests dubbed our place "The Sanctuary", and we had to agree, it fit well. A truly special retreat-like setting. This is a very private cottage at street level with ample neighborhood parking. One enters through a private, sculpture filled courtyard. In the high ceilinged main room large windows look onto a red plum tree and hills in the distance. The super comfortable bed has down pillows and comforter and fine linens. A beautiful Travertine and plaster gas fireplace with a large Sculpture niche warms the room quickly and casts a romantic glow . Totally controllable lighting and top down- bottom up shades allow you to tailor the space to your exact needs . There is a built in desk and comfortable chair for working and a TV above it with cable, HBO, Showtime etc . There is a Bluetooth/CD player with a varied selection of cds Including my own home made cd of Indian bansuri music . Throughout the space there are thoughtful loving touches. The bathroom is unique and artistic with a large openable skylight. Though we are new to VRBO We have rented this space for more than ten years, and received many wonderful reviews which describe the place better than I ever could.

The cottage is the back unit of a Gorgeous Victoria house. It is updated and decorated with French Country theme, with a private yard and outdoor dining and seating area. The neighborhood is quiet, safe and welcoming. Cottage is equipped with high speed internet (free wifi), flat screen TV, and wash/dryer.
Guest access
Guests will have access to the entire cottage and the garden.
Interaction with guests
I am a very easy going person. Every guest will be respected and be cared for during their stay. Absolutely no problem if you break a dish, a glass, or accidentally scratch a table or spill something on the carpet. Things are meant to be used and guests should live freely during their visit.

Party is not allowed and quiet time is 9:30pm.

Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. Our 850 sq. ft. cozy cottage is located on a one lane dead end street where there is no traffic and is very safe! It is peaceful and quiet save for our 9 chickens which roam the yard from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm. Located close to SF, the Montclair shopping district, Chabot Space Center, the Redwoods of Joaquin Miller Park, Oakland Zoo, any many other wonderful attractions (check out Canyon). The cottage is a cozy 850 sq. ft. There is WiFi and NO TV, a comfortable Queen Bed and a small work area if needed. The kitchen is hopefully equipped with everything you'll need and the pantry has misc. food items for your use. We live in the home right next door if anything additional is needed or if you have any questions regarding your stay. Recommendations are freely given! You'll enjoy your morning coffee on the deck as a peaceful way to start your day!

This VRBO consists of two combined spaces: a rustic cabin and an attached studio, both steps away from each other and situated amidst the native plant garden, offering the perfect combination of old-world charm and contemporary amenities.

Please note that our cottage and studio are located on the back of our main property where we reside. While we live on-site, your accommodations are completely private with their own dedicated entrance and separate living spaces (the cabin and studio are distinct units, steps apart, exclusively for your use).

The Cabin:
Step into a hand-built haven crafted with love and dedication, featuring natural wood finishes and reclaimed wooden accents throughout. The cabin has a 12x10' layout with a very high ceiling, to open upwards into a loft. This super-cozy, rustic cabin comfortably sleeps two in a quaint, antique double bed, offering breathtaking views right from under the covers. Ascend to the loft, a perfect spot to relax in the comfortable lounger and soak in even more stunning vistas. The loft can also be converted into an additional sleeping space with the futon sofa. A dedicated table provides a workspace for those who need to stay connected, while large windows bathe the cabin in natural light, maximizing the breathtaking views. A large glass sliding door seamlessly connects the indoor and outdoor spaces, opening directly onto the vibrant native plant garden.

The Studio:
Just steps from the cabin, the simple one-room studio with attached full private bath provides all the comforts of home. Relax in the queen-size bed and refresh in the full private bathroom. 2. Using the Cover: We keep the cover on to keep out leaves and keep the heat in. It can be a little bulky! The easiest way to remove it is to un-clip the front clips and place it vertical against the studio wall. You can place it anywhere on rocks or tiled area near the cabin while you're using the tub. If you need a hand with it, just ask!

3. Quiet Hours: To respect our neighbors (and your fellow guests, if any!), please observe quiet hours between 9 PM and 8 AM. This means no hot tub soaks during these times.

4. A Note on the Water: We use natural tap water and a small amount (50-100 ppm) of hydrogen peroxide to keep the water sanitized. We choose hydrogen peroxide over chlorine because it's a gentler, more environmentally friendly option that allows us to reuse the water later for our garden plants! Since the hot tub is nestled amongst the trees, you might notice a tiny leaf or twig sometimes, but rest assured, the water sanitation is top-notch.

Enjoy seamless access to your private suite with a key code lock upon arrival. A dedicated parking spot is available for your convenience. Please note that there are 4-5 steps leading up to the back of the house and the suite entrance. Step directly from your studio into the native plant garden, complete with a handmade concrete table and various other seating areas offering stunning Bay views. This suite is not specifically designed for wheelchair accessibility. Detailed check-in instructions, including the key code, will be provided upon booking. Other things to note Our cabin plus studio is designed to be cozy and comfortable for groups of 4. It features a queen size bed in the studio and a full size bed in the cabin. For groups larger than 4, the loft serves as a dedicated sleeping area (please see photos of the sun room), and the futon conveniently folds down into a bed. This setup provides flexible sleeping arrangements for everyone in your group. Our garden is a living space that changes with the seasons. This marvelous studio cottage in Oakland is the perfect cozy retreat for guests. With a comfortable queen bed and a convenient sofa bed, this adorable space is ideal for a relaxing stay, for up to 3 people, although it works best with 2 adults and a child (or of course 1 person). Enjoy the wonderful amenities provided, including a hair dryer, iron, WiFi, and heating. The bathroom features a bathtub/shower. Writers, academics, grandparents, executives and vacationers have enjoyed staying here since 2014.

I have always welcomed long stays, so if you need to stay a number of weeks or months, I am happy to accommodate you.

The cottage is fully furnished, including bedding, towels, & fully equipped kitchen. The kitchen has a 2 burner gas stovetop, a combination microwave/convection oven, toaster oven, drip coffee maker, and a full size refrigerator. The queen bed sits on a platform with 6 drawers on each side and 2 long storage drawers that open at the bottom of the platform. Windows on all walls and double sliding doors create a light filled, peaceful, spacious abode. The heater will warm up the cottage in a few minutes on cold days and on warm days, just open the windows and the door. Fan also included behind the bed. There are 2 laundromats within a couple of blocks.

I have lived in the main house since 1987, raised my daughter here, and created a second home for her three children. I love my neighborhood and love sharing it with travelers.

Walk 25 minutes to College Avenue's Elmwood district for a movie theatre, terrific cafes and restaurants, Wells Fargo Bank, bakeries, ice cream shop and much more. Or walk more to the south on College Avenue to enter the Rockridge district for tons of shops and eateries and the Rockridge BART station. Just a couple of blocks away on Adeline Street and Alcatraz Avenue are good eateries, a Yoga studio and a few shops. The Berkeley border is just one block north and one block west. If you enjoy walking, I heartily encourage you take walks around the neighborhoods to view a wide variety of beautiful old homes, varied architecture and landscaping.

UC Berkeley campus is a short BART or bus ride or about a 45 minute walk. All within easy walking distance are libraries, two post offices, Berkeley Bowl grocery, Whole Foods, yoga and Pilates studios, museums, BART, bus lines, Berkeley's art district with theatres, live performance venues and many places to eat. Oakland and Berkeley offer a wide variety of music, theatre, and arts. Two of my favorite venues are Zellerbach Auditorium on the UC Berkeley campus and just a few blocks away are Freight and Salvage, Berkeley Repertory and the Roda Theatre. A few blocks from my place is our local theatre, The Ashby Stage/Shotgun Players. You will always be able to stay entertained while here. And did I mention the dozens of local hiking trails?

If you are arriving with a car, I can offer you one free off street parking spot in my fenced driveway. Or you can park on the street but you will need a visitor parking permit if your car will be parked for more that 2 hours between 8am to 6pm Monday through Friday. They cost $5 per day or $27 for 2 consecutive weeks.

A little bit about me. I owned a wholesale bakery in Richmond for 35 years called Zoe's Cookies and Other Delights. I retired in January of 2017 and my income source now comes from my cottage rental and 2 bedrooms in the main house. I have one daughter who has blessed me with three grandchildren who currently (2025) are 16, 18, and 19. I love to garden as you will see from the photos and one of my favorite activities is to just get outside and walk which I sometimes do for hours. I really enjoy sharing my home and meeting people I would never meet otherwise.

We were not able to access the property at midnight, having just arrived in Oakland. After repeated attempts to contact the property manager all day for a door code, I finally called VRBO. The property was right by the family's house we were visiting so we were disappointed not to stay there. VRBO did refund the money, I felt they could have offered a discount for a future rental. You may hear the mini waterfall from nearby Sausal Creek. The 9-hole golf course behind the house has a driving range, restaurant and bar (where you can meet local regulars).

SIMPLY GOURMET: Enjoy the well-equipped remodeled kitchen with a professional Viking stove. You are welcome to use the spices and whatever you want in the pantry. There's a Nepresso machine, a mini air-fryer and a Magic Bullet to make smoothies, custom pottery plateware and 3 paella pans.

We are located right off Hwy 13 in Oakland which is very centrally located and in a safe neighborhood with free parking right in front of our house. We are 10 miles from Downtown San Francisco, 30 miles from San Jose, and 40 miles from Napa or Sonoma. We have a regular bus service that goes to our BART train station and downtown Oakland. We are 2 blocks from Grocery and drug stores. We have tons of hiking and biking trails close by and a nice view from our house.

We provide bottled water, basic snacks, condiments, and fresh fruit upon your arrival.

We also have a swing, BBQ and coffee table in the backyard and an area outside for smokers. We would love to spoil you so hope you book with us.

We have Comcast wifi and full cable TV. We also have been known to give guest a lift or let them use our Gourmet kitchen at times. We love to cook and share our food.

Beautiful, spacious, and quiet cottage 1-bedroom 1-bath, 860sqft, with a private garden, located in the prestigious Alameda Gold Coast neighborhood, safe, 7miles to OAK Airport, 5miles to Oakland Coliseum, 9miles to UC Berkeley, walk to the beach, easy transportation to San Francisco by ferry, bart, or bus. It is walking to coffee shops, restaurants, grocery stores. Next to Crown beach with spectacular view of San Francisco. Parties are not allowed. Top speed Internet. Pet allowed, $50 per stay.

The space
The cottage is the back unit of a Gorgeous Victoria house. It is updated and decorated with French Country style. It has a private garden equipped with outdoor dining and seating. The neighborhood is quiet, safe and welcoming. Cottage has the top speed Internet, a flat screen TV, a portable AC and a set of wash/dryer inside the unit.

My cleaner Patricia is doing a wonderful job. Our cleaning standard is able to “eat off the floor”.

Many guests accredited our place as the best cottages in the region. We are taking pride and will continue uphold this standard.

Bring the family to the hidden gem that is Crab Cove Beach. Lots of open space, wildlife and learning opportunities for kids. The space
Alameda is a quiet and safe small town on an island in the bustling urban Bay Area. In this cottage you can experience a comforting sense of safety second floor living space provides.

The space is colorfully and eclectically decorated with treasures from my travel and a fully stocked kitchen with under counter lighting, Coffee Maker, Instant Pot, Crockpot, Food Processor, and anything else you need for delicious meal preparation.

There are 4 separate possible work-from-home spaces available: living room, master bedroom, small bedroom and the sun/reading room.

The master bedroom has a sitting area (or office space) blackout curtains, a very comfortable high-quality queen bed, USB charging station and an en suite.

There is a 2nd bathroom off the dedicated office space/sun room.

The 2nd bedroom has a Keetsa memory foam queen-size bed, closet, and built-in industrial gas pipe shelving with a 22’ inch TV with Roku/Amazon Fire stick.

The 3rd bedroom is on the smaller side and has a twin size bed, book shelf, closet, storage and wall-mounted 22’ inch TV with Roku/Amazon Fire stick.

The living room has a couch that converts to a bed, love seat, 2 side chairs, a 42 inch screen TV and can accommodate an air mattress.

Hang out in the backyard hammock or on the cute front porch. The colorful garden has comfy seating, a fire pit and colorful, overhead solar string-lights for enjoying the night air.

If you are bringing bikes or other equipment, there is storage for your stuff in the garage.

The fenced yard is shared with another house where I live (and sometimes a foster dog).

The washer and dryer available for your use are in the garage under the main house. Feel free to help yourself to the laundry soap.

You are welcome to store your luggage, sports equipment, kayak, SUP, etc in the garage under the main house as long as it fits in the 8'x12' designated area. We can make room outside for kayaks, etc that may not fit inside.

Nearby Crab Cove Beach is a local, mostly unknown treasure with very shallow water and virtually no waves which makes it ideal for little ones making sand castles. A beautiful path along the water for biking, walks and wildlife observers starts only 1 block away. Sea lions and manta rays can occasionally be seen in the bay along the walking/biking path. Harbor Seals are found gathering on a dock at Alameda Point which is a 20 minute walk. Also very nearby is a place that offers paddle board rentals and paddle board yoga classes.

Other things to note
Parking in my neighborhood is free and generally easy (usually within a block) without day or time restrictions. You must move your car every 3 days according to the law but only applies if a neighbor calls it in as abandoned.

You can briefly park on the sidewalk in front of the driveway for loading and unloading.
