The tenants are ALL long term; they have been in the property for an average of 9 years. They are quite and wonderful folks. They are hardworking and barely home.

Fruitvale is the Latino neighborhood of Oakland. Only a few walking steps from studio, nearing intersections of Fruitvale at Foothill Blvd and/or Fruitvale at International there is a countless number of Salvadoran, Mexican and Guatemalan restaurants and bakeries. They are all very humble and down-to-earth establishments. The food is excellent, but the ambiance is tailored to working class Latinos; if that fits your standards, you’ll have a very pleasant experience. You are looking across at an amazing panorama, and everything near you is amidst trees and greenery (ergo, OAKland!)

Don’t want to climb stairs to get to your rental? The Bay Area is a hilly area, therefore some rentals require climbing many step to access the rental. But not this rental! At this rental, although your magnificent view is elevated (2nd floor), you enter the rental from the street level. To enter “Oasis”, you walk from the street-side sidewalk, along a level walkway, up one small step to a stoop, then up a small step into the front door.

This is the main house with no noise over your head. Entry is from the street. The owners live downstairs which is “basement” level. We are quiet reclusive 70-ish folk who value our autonomy and quiet just as we respect yours. But at the same time, we are friendly and helpful. We take our responsibility as your hosts very seriously and will do all we can to make sure that you’re comfortable and have what you need.

Do you enjoying sitting on a large beautiful deck with comfortable furniture and awesome view of the San Francisco skyline and the famous bridges? The redwood deck is architecturally beautiful with each end shaped into a “Romeo and Juliet” curved balcony. One balcony connects to the master bedroom and has large outdoor Pottery Barn-with-rolled-arms wicker chairs. The other end connects to the kitchen and has a tall, large metal bistro dining table with 4 bar-height cushioned chairs from which to enjoy the view. A grill is on the deck (propane provided).The balconies are connected by a straight portion where there is additional seating.

Do you like to cook at home? The kitchen is fully furnished with cookware, utensils, place settings and basic condiments. Kitchen has: Wedgewood stove, microwave, Cuisinart drip maker with re-usable filter, toaster, and blender.
Can you live without an automatic dishwasher? As an interior design choice, we kept the vintage 1949 kitchen with the beautiful gas standing pilot Wedgewood stove. Our cabinets are original and of a depth that is slightly too narrow to accommodate a dishwasher.

Do you want a full-size clothes washer and dryer -- LG large capacity washer and dryer. with laundry detergent and softener provided.

Do you like to read? A small collection of books includes travel books (lots on Northern California), novels, and books related to philosophy, political science, and art. Take a day off and go on an intellectual exploration through an eclectic collection.

The expansive back deck overlooks a lush garden replete with – to name a few of the plants – a majestic poplar tree (condo to many squirrels and birds – and those Anna Humming birds put on quite a show!), calla lilies in the winter, a robust juniper tree with juniper berries, plum trees, apple tree, fig tree, bird of paradise, spider plants .

Are you allergic to dogs or cats? Animals are never allowed in the rental.

Parking is un-metered no-restrictions street parking that is generally plentiful. Guests are usually able to park in front of the rental.

Accessibility: The rental is appropriate for those who have the usual challenges that come with aging such as stiff joints and other mobility challenges that doesn’t require device-assistance, such as a walker or rollator. The rental’s interior is all on one level. The bath is a tub/shower combination with a 36” grab bar. An assist-bar is at the entry to the tub/shower. Please note that one has two small steps up to enter the rental, one step from the walkway to the stoop, the one step to enter through the front door. One must step down a small step to enter the outside deck. If you want any clarification about accessibility to learn if the rental will fit your requirements, please send an inquiry. More about the downstairs apartment: The owners live downstairs with a sweet Siamese cat, Cece. There is complete space separation between the units with no shared entrances. There is "quiet rock" between the floors to reduce noise transfer. The owners are rather reclusive but friendly, always available for any of the rental's needs.

Through the gate you will be greeted by a beautiful garden. The studio is at the back of the garden.

As you can see in the photos, there are a few steps up to the studio that are a bit uneven -- "landscaped" style stairs. For our elderly guests, be advised that there is no railing. The pathway is lit at night.

The studio/office entrance is through the office door, on the right of the back building. Enter the studio from the office.

The lock box will provide you a key to the front door. Please remember to leave the key when you depart at the end of your stay.

The unit was very clean and well appointed in terms of household items for your every need away from home. The closet is a very generous size with plenty of hangers, drawers, suitcase stands etc. The bed is very comfy, kitchen is well stocked. (dishes, pans, glasses- more than enough of everything!) Freeway entrances are close by ( via car) . Very quiet neighborhood. I particularly liked that the unit smelled (and was) very clean, all the bedding, towels etc were not laundered with detergents that carried a harsh or strong smell of any kind. The owners were very response and available. As former Oakland residents on vacation, my husband and I found this rental to be everything we hoped and wanted it to be."

We are not entrepreneurs. We are an elderly couple who are just trying to make ends meet by renting out the front apartment of our two apartment duplex.
When you arrive at the apartment, you will find everything you could possible want, so you can relax after your trip: Cup of lovely tea or frothy cappuccino? Glass of wine? Sparkling water? Snacks? There are two private bedrooms with solid core doors to reduce noise and ensure your privacy. The bedrooms have queen mattresses with dressers, night stands, lamps, remote control lighting and ceiling fan, on colder nights for your comfort you’ll find portable heaters in the bedroom closet. There are 2 possible sleeping options 2 queen beds. To ensure a good night sleep we use quality Sheets, Blankets and Down Pillows. Both bedrooms have 40” smart TV”S set up with Netflex.

KITCHEN:
The fully equipped Kitchen is designed for cooks and those who just like to eat. We supply a variety of Coffee, Hot Chocolate, Sweeteners and perhaps a few small treats! Meals are a breeze with the Gas Stove with 4 burners, Refrigerator with Ice Maker, Microwave, Toaster, Blender, Pressure Cooker, Roasting Pans, Baking Pans, A Waffle Maker and a Variety of Pots & Pans. If BBQ is what you crave there is a Gas Weber BBQ grill upon request.

BATHROOM:

Bright and well appointed 2BR apartment (1200 sq ft) in garden level of a charming 1890s Victorian. First bedroom has a queen bed. The other (larger) bedroom contains a twin which converts into a king bed as well as a sofa. Extra mattress can also be placed on the floor to create a 2 twin bed room. The space
The studio unit is located on the second floor of an apartment building. It’s about 10 square feet. There is a TV with basic cable and internet access. There is an ample supply of linens and extra blankets and pillows. The kitchen has a full sized fridge, gas stove, microwave, coffee maker, plates and utensils, knife and cutting board, drinking glasses.

There is public street parking without meters or hour limits. Availability varies depending on day and time of day. Sometimes you can park in front, sometimes halfway down the street, sometimes a block or two away. Also, there is street sweeping from 12:30 - 3:30 on Fridays and on the opposite street the same time on Thursdays.

You will have full access to the entire unit.

Other things to note
NOISE level expectations:
Daytime - you can expect some level of occasional noise, either from other tenants in the building, the neighbor’s, neighbor kids, passersby, or city workers. I If anyone is in the kitchen cooking, washing dishes, you most likely will hear that as well, as all the bedroom doors are from the kitchen/hallway. But overall it’s quiet and has worked out for remote workers and students.

Nighttime - it's relatively quiet as it’s a residential area. The house is close to the freeway as well and again night time you may hear it more depending on what room you are in but it is more like white noise.
