Favorite places to go:
Our new favorite thing to do is owl watching at the playground on K after sunset. There are white owls living in the trees there and can also be seen by the house away from the lights.
Down Town Benicia is a favorite historic and patriotic town. A Main St Town, has weekend events throughout the year such as music, film and art festivals, classic car shows, parades, peddlers fare, farmers market on Thursday afternoon...
Benicia was the second capital of California with the Capital building museum off of First Street, Yacht club, waterfront fishing, shops, salons, spas, gym, cafes, antique shops, restaurants, chapel, play ground... and public pool and tennis next block. All of these are in walking distance.
Carmel by the Sea:
so quaint, European style town. Charm everywhere. One of California's Missions still in service with Sunday mass there is located in Carmel. A stroll down Ocean Drive will take you by shops, cafes and restaurants and down the street to a sand hill with the Pacific Ocean at the bottom where you can sit and watch dolphins, sea lions and occasional migrating whales. Definite place to spend the entire day. Next door is Monterey, and Pacific Grove, lots of nature all around you, deer are commonly seen at the Pebble Beach golf coarse and in the neighboring streets, A lot of water wade pools to explore by the shore. State of the art aquarium, restaurants. Morning whale and dolphin watching boat tours on the wharf. I recommend The Grotto restaurant at the fishermen's wharf boardwalk, great food, never had a bad experience there.
San Francisco:
Speaks for it self. One of my favorite city in the world.
Napa Valley:
Wine country, mineral spas, early morning balloon rides... gorgeous view, wine tasting, restaurants... Near by Sonoma has another mission, 18 century army barracks museum with the history of California, restaurants, deli, old bakery, shops and boutiques...
Lake Tahoe:
The place where they filmed the TV series Bonanza. The reason for that series was to promote color TV. It's easy to see why. The lake is crystal clear with sandy shoreline and beautiful evergreen mountain. The smell of the pines trees are wonderful. Great skiing and winter sports as well as beaches, and water activities in summer. Bike trails go for miles, horse back rentals at a few locations. It is mostly mountain wilderness, but there are a few casinos on both shore. Lake Tahoe is located on the border of California / Nevada.
Yosemtie:
This is a jewel that started the National Park preservation. Abraham Lincoln took time in the middle of the civil war to dedicate and preserve this park. Very different from Tahoe. Yosemite Valley has tall water falls, some can be seen from the road, but a few are hidden away between the hills and just a hike away. Camping and house tents are available in Half Dome Village where there is a cafeteria, ice cream and pizza shop and nightly amphitheater. There are free shuttles in the valley as well as tour buses that can show you the sights. Glacier Point is farther up at the south rim of Yosemite, but it's a must see in summer only, winter is closed due to snow. A few miles beyond that are the Sequoias. These huge trees are the oldest living trees in the world and only found in California. Some are over 2000 and 3000 years old. To be among them feels like a cathedral of nature.
- "This secluded cottage is a tiny oasis in Benicia. Certainly more than big enough for a couple and equipped with full size appliances from Samsung, wifi and an incredibly comfortable bed, this cottage is a wonderful place to stay. The host has equipped this place with all manner of supplies that would serve if you wanted to stay for a month. She has thought of nearly everything you might want to use while vacationing. About the bed. I am 6'3" and rarely find beds in VRBO stays which are comfortable. This one takes a page from Marriot with its incredibly soft, supportive and cozy beds. I slept as well as in my own bed. She has installed a mini-split for AC as well. Very quiet. The host is an avid gardener and the cottage has so many succulents and flowering plants everywhere and a small fountain. There are three secluded seating areas outside all of which provide shade and breezes. When I used Shangra-La in my title, I meant it. You'll agree once you stay here."

- "Wonderful stay! Great Hostess. We would definitely recommend and/or come back.. Please goodbye to all the deer for us." - "Diana was wonderful to deal with. Hope Cottage is beautiful and very livable. Well stocked kitchen (we like to cook and bake). Everything worked (including good water pressure) and everything was spotless. Great neighborhood near biking and hiking. We’ll definitely be back." - "My husband and I LOVED Hope Cottage. It’s not only much more spacious than we were expecting but it has so much charm! Hope Cottage is situated in a beautiful location in Green Valley. The cottage is beautifully appointed and spotless. This location was perfect for us because my husband and I were interested in exploring the beautiful Green Valley area. We also had a chance to meet and talk with Diana and Mark [the owners] who were very warm and welcoming. We could not have asked for a better experience. Staying in Hope Cottage was a much sweeter experience than staying at a nice hotel and makes me appreciate VRBO all the more."

- "Really enjoyed our stay, we came for the weekend for the Napa Jazz Festival and it was super convenient. House was much cuter in person, very comfortable, wished we had more time to enjoy the place. The atmosphere was really lovely. Thanks!" - "Property is even cuter than the pictures. Loved the cozy fireplace in the master bedroom. Comfortable bed and lots of extra fluffy blankets. Water pressure in the shower was fantastic, especially after coming from a property with a low-flow shower head. Loved the dishwasher. Made cleaning after cooking a breeze. Walkable to the sister property and a couple other wineries, even though there is no sidewalk and the street is busier than you’d expect for being out in the country. Seems like a great business opportunity for anyone in the valley to offer a shuttle to the various tasting rooms. Would definitely return. Highly recommended."

Very walkable 1 bedroom, 1 bath, 610 square foot Guest House in heart of downtown Vacaville, right on beautiful and historic Buck Avenue. Sleeps 2 very comfortably as there is a separate bedroom with a Queen Bed. Living Room has a 7' leather sofa however it does not pull out. TV has access to streaming services via WiFi. The Bath has a shower only, there is also a Full Kitchen (no dishwasher) and a stackable laundry unit in the Guest House. No smoking or Pets are allowed on the premises.
The Owners live on the property full time, in the main house, however you will have a private gated backyard with side entrance. There are (2) gates, one on the side of the main house, off Buck Avenue, and a second in the backyard for your use. This is a great space to use as a home base if you are in town to see family, go wine tasting in Napa, or for work, as it is very convenient to restaurants, bars, or just a nice walk around the neighborhood. This is not a good space if you want to entertain other guests, however, as we do live on the property.
Pool, built-in BBQ, and several outdoor seating areas are available to Guests. Spa and Pizza Oven are not made available to guests. We provide linens, towels, and the Bath and full Kitchen are both well stocked. Peloton tread and bike can be made available; (must bring own shoes for Peloton Bike) however an additional signed Waiver is required for the code to use them.
A couple things to note: The pool service man comes Wednesday mornings, and the gardener comes Fridays, usually in the late morning. Parking for guests is mainly in the driveway of the main house. There is also a side gate that leads to the detached Guest House. There are (2) cameras on the side of the house where this access is located, just to fully disclose that. We also have an English bulldog, who is a fully indoor dog with us. When we have guests, we only bring him out on a leash when he needs to go outside, although you are welcome to meet him if you like! He is very sweet.
- "Everything was great. Property was clean and well appointed. Very quiet. Didn't have to park on the street, a big plus." - "Very cute guest house located near the pool. It is tastefully done. Ryan and Jared allow you private space but make themselves available for any questions or needs you may have. " - "This one bedroom was perfect for our week in Vacaville. Located in a Vacaville favorable, safe neighborhood that is walking distance to excellent downtown spots to eat and drink. Having a washer and drier was a huge plus. The hosts were friendly and prompt when we had questions. We would like to return in the summer so we can enjoy the pool/spa. All in all one of the better places we have stayed at. Lots of privacy but close by if anything was needed. "

The unit was excellent." - "Very nice property for a 30 day extended stay. Property very clean, newly remodeled, roomy and well equipped for an extended stay for 2 persons. Nice view of bay, nice residential neighborhood and very close (walkable) to amenities (grocery store etc). Good base for east bay area (hiking, wineries, shopping). One minor point is the kitchen did not have an oven (only cooktop) which would have been nice for some variety cooking dinners during an extended stay."
