The “Birdcage” is a cozy, rustic cabin with breathtaking views of the Coachella Valley. Sited high atop the Cahuilla Hills (adjacent to Bighorn Golf Club) and enveloped by the Santa Rosa Mountains, it is only 2 miles from downtown Palm Desert.
My aunt and uncle homesteaded this land in 1948 and built the cabin, affectionately known as 'The Bird Cage'. Frequented by movie stars in the 1950s who valued its privacy, it's one of the last homesteads in our area.
The Birdcage has one bedroom with a new queen-sized bed, a bathroom with a good size shower, and a living/dining/kitchen room — all with beautiful views. The large patio is perfect for drinking morning coffee while the sun rises over the mountains, gazing at hawks soaring overhead during the day, or watching the Valley below transition from gold to pink as the sun sets behind you. And at night, the sky holds a canopy of twinkling stars.

With its proximity to nature, The Birdcage captures the ambiance of life in the Wild West, yet the restaurants and world-class shopping on El Paseo (the Rodeo Drive of the desert) are just a 5-minute drive down the hill. Sublime and safe, the entrance to the property is secured by electronic gates and flanked by a beautiful stand of date palms.

A highlight of Cat Creek is the spectacular view from the casement windows that open to serve the patio for outdoor dining overlooking the sparkling lights of the valley below. The Cat Creek cabin is a designer studio style (sleeping area with queen-size bed divided by half wall open to living room). It has a newly remodeled kitchen with full-sized refrigerator, oven, microwave, toaster, and blender.

- "Location was good. Was real short drive to town. You could start your hikes from the house, if you wanted. You can buy wood for fireplace for cheaper in town, than the delivery service, not to mention, you also have to order in advance for the weekends. There is a propane grill on site and you still need the fire permit to use it. This place has a basketball hoop too, but I couldn't find a basketball...so bring your own. Overall, I would book again, except, I would bring my dog next time. The town is very dog friendly!"

At Whitewater Cabin, not only will you be able to access our stunning, remote 5 acre property but also the surrounding area. Our property borders BLM (Bureau of Land Management) Land which is open to further walk along the stream and explore.

WI-FI
Whitewater Cabin is in a stunningly remote location. Until recently, it was impossible to obtain any internet access at all. Thanks to Starlink, we now have fast satellite internet on site. Please note that it is normal for the system to drop out for periods of 30 seconds up to 2 minutes at a time since this is early stage technology.

STRONG WINDS
The winds in the desert are very strong between February and June which may limit your enjoyment of the outdoor amenities. We do all we can to navigate around the winds but cannot control the impact it may have on your stay.

POWER OUTAGES
The power is cut off for 8-12 hours at least twice a year by the electrical company in order for maintenance to be done (for instance in preparation for the fire seasons). We inform our guests of outages as soon as we are made aware but cannot control the time or manner in which this may impact your stay.

REFUNDS
Should any inconveniences such as those listed above or anything else beyond our control affect your stay, we will not provide refunds. Please understand certain things simply come with the windy, rural, desert location. Thank for understanding!

PETS
There is a one time, non-refundable pet fee of $85 per pet and no more than 2 dogs are allowed. Please note that the pet fee will be charged after the booking is confirmed and must be paid before check-in.

REQUIREMENTS
Upon booking, you will receive a link with a request to sign and agree to our house rules, verify your identity, pay our refundable security deposit, and schedule a phone call with our manager. Please note that these steps are required for all guests. All steps must be complete in full prior to check-in.

POWER OUTAGES
The High Desert occasionally has power outages due to its rural nature. We are not responsible for any outages of Southern California Edison or any inconvenience such outage may cause. We will notify you of any planned outages and if requested will attempt to accommodate you elsewhere in the event of a planned outage lasting more than 4 hours. But we do not provide refunds or discounts for power outages that are unplanned.

This list is only intended as a starter kit; If you run out of consumables then you must be purchase additional items yourself. --- HOUSE RULES/ POLICIES ---

1. As per the City of Palm Springs Policy for vacation rentals, outdoor noise amplification or loud music is PROHIBITED at all times of the day. The outdoor Quiet Hours are between 9PM - 8AM Sunday-Thursday and 10pm-8am Friday and Saturday. All units are equipped with Minut volume tracking devices which will alert our team if outside noise becomes unreasonable.

2. Spa heating and pool heating are extra services: $25/day for spa heating and $75/day for pool heating which the pool will be heated to 85 degrees. The pool and spa cannot be heated simultaneously, as the heater can only heat one at a time. If you would like to purchase pool and spa heating we will heat the pool before you check in so that it will stay warm even when spa heating is in use. If you’d like the pool heated, we require a 24 hour advanced notice to give the pool ample time to heat. A minimum of 3 consecutive days is required for pool heating, OR, for the entire duration of your stay if it`s less than 3 days.

3. Early check in at 1PM ($150) and late check out at 2PM ($150) is available for an extra fee ONLY if there are no back to back bookings to allow for proper cleaning.

4. Minimum 25 years of age to book.

5. SOME pets are allowed for an extra fee ($150/pet). Please consult with the owner before bringing the pet. Maximum of 2 pets. Pets are not allowed in the pool or on the bed. While we do allow some pets with prior approval, a $500 fine will be imposed for any presence or evidence of unapproved pets found within the premises.

6. No more than 5 vehicles allowed.

7. No smoking inside the home. Evidence of smoking inside the home will result in a minimum fine of $750.

8. Any missing or damaged linen, towels or small appliances will be charged via your booking platform.

9. An additional cleaning fee of $100 applies to stays of 28 nights or longer. This fee is payable promptly following booking confirmation.

10. The Coachella Music Festival dates, April 9–13 and April 16–20, and the Stagecoach Music Festival dates, April 23–27, require booking Thursday through Sunday nights during those periods.

The Desert Lookout is an 1,100-square-foot, one-bedroom house and is perfect for up to two guests.

Snuggle into a comfy queen bed in the expansive main bedroom, which has its own sun-drenched tea and meditation room. Soak in one of the two cowboy tubs with unbelievable views of the surrounding mountains, or play some cornhole on the hilltop court. Count the stars with a pair of our binoculars or the telescope.

There's air-conditioning and heaters in the living room and kitchen, plus AC and a space heater in the bedroom. Built in the 1950s, this little pink homestead is perched on the side of a mountain overlooking the community of Morongo Valley, a perfect midway point about 30 minutes from Joshua Tree National Park and the Coachella Valley. You can drive right up Highway 62 to do some vintage shopping in Yucca Valley, or right down to Palm Springs to see the iconic mid-century modern architecture.

Morongo Valley is home to a general store, several gas stations, vintage shops and the beloved Cactus Mart (where you can dig your own cactus!). The house is also under 10 minutes to Yucca Valley's grocery stores, restaurants and shops.

Owned by Kristin, a storyteller and designer who renovated the 1950s homestead while serving as the editor of DESERT magazine. As she gathered stories from the surrounding landscape and its unique community, she also collected vintage treasures to make the space a home and creative outpost. There is nothing like golden hour at the cabin, and Kristin hopes it's a place where others experience the magic of the desert.

Escape to our high desert lodge - a unique, bohemian hideaway with true architectural character. Our 1750 sqft home is located on 2 acres of pristine desert. Enjoy this 70's inspired pad with all the creature comforts while in the midst of nature, with mountain views from every window. We are 15 min from Pappy & Harriet’s, 20 from JT Nat’l Park entrance, and 30 from Palm Springs. Venture out and enjoy all the quirkiness of the desert, or stay in and relax in the hot tub while enjoying the stars.
The space
This home was reimagined by the creative mind of a retired ship builder and you will be charmed by his ingenious layering of materials and raw elements throughout the space. We are west facing and the dramatic full wall picture window provides unobstructed views of both of the San Gregorio and San Jancinto Mnt peaks as well as the Morongo Valley basin stretching out below you. There are Brutalist modernism rough edges and surprising touches of tile work throughout the space. It is truly a one of a kind memorable location that will remind you of the warmth and nostalgia of years gone by with a sense of hollywood glam.

Each bedroom has its own distinct character. The master kind ensuite is a cali boho whitewashed space with a simple minimalist feel... we call it the Cream Room. Then there is the Blonde room which is entirely clad in a clean mid-century plywood with bright flashes of pop color and cult leader vibes. The Loft has flavors of a rustic cabin in some enchanted wonderland. Each bed features a memory foam topper for ultimate comfort and has OEK-TEX certified 100% cotton bedding. We love Pendelton and both the Loft and The Cream room have shams and quilts styled by them.

This is a true functional CHEFS kitchen. With nearly every specialty item you could desire. We know youve struggled in Airbnb's in the past to find a sharp knife, this is NOT that experience. You will be delighted cooking in our space and happy to host a dinner party while you are here. We also provide Joshua Tree Coffee Co ground coffee for your stay and every possible way you could choose to brew your beans. If you opt to bring your own beans, dont worry we have you covered with a high quality burr grinder.

We have two modernized bathrooms with captivating tile work both with rainhead showers and glass enclosures. The entertaining kitchen has all the tools you need for preparing a chefs meal. We stock local products like Joshua Tree Coffee Co. coffee for your stay that you can brew up in our nostalgic Chemex or a french press. All bath products are from the Eco brand Public Goods and refillable.

Relax in our spacious leather sofas and take in the view from the main living space or pull down the projector screen and access our Roku enabled entertainment in the Big Cat lounge room. Throw your own personal Kareoke party casting straight from your phone with your fav songs! Have an epic meal at the massive granite dining table or entertain from the mini bar... or take a nap in the hammock city.

The only A-frame log cabin in the California Desert, Whitewater Cabin boasts 18-inch, hand–carved cedar timbers imported from the mountains of British Columbia. Its open concept design with warm interiors, comfortable furnishings and expansive windows that flood the space with natural light make this the perfect mountain getaway.

Whitewater Cabin is located in Whitewater, CA just 10 miles northwest of Palm Springs, 45 minutes from Joshua Tree and two hours east of Los Angeles. Whitewater is a local secret: a small, hidden town you might just miss, despite being right off the 10 Freeway. Once there, however, you will find the area full of magic.

Sitting on five unexpectedly lush acres and surrounded by BLM land, Whitewater Cabin features an ever running stream that runs right next to the property. This stream, fed by water from the San Gorgonio Mountains, creates a verdant oasis full of hiking trails that begs for exploration. Drive just 6 minutes from the Cabin’s door and you will find yourself in the Whitewater Preserve, a gateway to the San Gorgonio Wilderness Backcountry. Whitewater is the historic Native American Cahuilla Indian village formerly named Wanapiapa (Place of Water).

At Whitewater Cabin, not only will you be able to access our stunning, remote 5 acre property but also the surrounding area. Our property borders BLM (Bureau of Land Management) Land which is open to further walk along the stream and explore.

SLEEPING FOR 4
In addition to the King canopy bed upstairs, there is a luxurious Rove Concepts sofa downstairs that converts into a Queen. This isn't your grandparents pull-out sofa. It's a real bed, covered in memory foam and draped in luxury linens, down pillows and duvets. This extra bed and bedding is provided when the home is booked for 3 or 4 guests.

WI-FI
Whitewater Cabin is in a stunningly remote location. Until recently, it was impossible to obtain any internet access at all. Thanks to Starlink, we now have fast satellite internet on site. Please note that it is normal for the system to drop out occasionally since this is early stage technology.

PETS
There is a one time, non-refundable pet per fee of $80 and no more than 2 dogs are allowed.

REQUIREMENTS
Upon booking, you will receive a link with a request to sign and agree to our house rules, verify your identity, pay our refundable security deposit, and schedule a phone call with our manager. Please note that these steps are required for all guests. All steps must be complete in full prior to check-in.

POWER OUTAGES
The High Desert occasionally has power outages due to its rural nature. We are not responsible for any outages of Southern California Edison or any inconvenience such outage may cause. We will notify you of any planned outages and if requested will attempt to accommodate you elsewhere in the event of a planned outage lasting more than 4 hours. But we do not provide refunds or discounts for power outages that are unplanned.
