- "very nice very handy top rate place" - "Fine for a short stay" - "Central & quiet, comfortable for 1, more than that would have to be able to navigate around eachother" - "Location was close to Twizel centre. Parking was easy on the property with a lot of off-street parking. Unfortunately, there was a booking mix-up where the booking manager had given the property we had booked to someone else and we ended up with a different one that was smaller and two single beds instead of the queen/double. They were prompt with a partial refund and apologetic which was appreciated, however, this experience made our stay pretty bad hence the low rating. Cups also had orange juice pulp stuck on them and floors were dirty. Unlucky but could've been a good stay otherwise."

The inside of the cottage is fully functional and ready for your stay, but as this is a newly built cottage the outside area still has landscaping to be completed.
Please also note that the fire is currently not in use, but will be available by mid April. In the meantime, there is a large heat pump in the cottage for heating.

For parking you are welcome to park in front or alongside the cottage during your stay.

The Cabin is also ideally situated for exploring the Mackenzie Basin. With only a 45-minute drive to the National Park, you can easily explore the stunning landscapes, fish in pristine rivers, bike along scenic trails, and hike through beautiful walking tracks.

The Cabin is situated on Omahau Downs farm, giving you a true taste of rural New Zealand. During your stay, you may even spot some farm animals roaming in the surrounding areas.

Our staff operate on business hours ( Monday- Friday 9am-3pm), so you will have the entire cabin to yourself during your stay

While you will need to drive into the Twizel township, the Cabin is conveniently located near Lake Pukaki and Lake Ohau, where you can enjoy swimming, fishing, and other outdoor activities.

Check out time of 10am is strict so we can ensure cleaning is completed before check in time. A late check out fee will be charged if you depart after 10am unless a late check out is arranged prior.
Checking out after 11AM means you incur a full days fee.

A fee of $100.00 will be charged to you as the guest if we are called out to the premises after business hours ( Business hours are 9am-3pm Monday- Friday) unless deemed not liable by our technician.
This will be charged and paid in full prior to your departure. As banking deposits can take up to more than 48hours to be processed.

Smoking inside is NOT ALLOWED and will result in a $200 charge for professional cleaning.

If you book for 2 guests, a maximum of 2 beds can be used other wise we will charge you for extra linen.

Cedar Cottage has two bedrooms and open-plan living. A great kitchen area that is fully self-contained with oven, gas hobs, microwave, and fridge. Sliding doors off the kitchen and living area open onto a lovely patio area where you can relax and soak up the sun. Twizel is a beautiful spot with so much to offer, very close to the lakes for boating and fishing, the gorgeous lagoon for swimming and watersports such as paddleboarding, and lots of nearby walking & bike tracks.

David and I warmly welcome you to enjoy our unique Hut ..built with a difference in mind for all to enjoy across all seasons.
From our two hot baths to the silo bathroom we fell in love our build and decided to open it up for others to enjoy.

The Hut caters for all seasons with a Roaring Meg wood burner to keep you warm even in the coldest temperatures.

The Hut sits on 4 acres of land made completely private by Douglas Furs .
Taking an evening bath allows you to take in a magnificent star gazing experience..
No road noise..just a feeling of switching off from all and relaxing.

They are designed to bring the feel of the surrounding landscape right inside - with natural colours and materials. Enjoy and soak up the stunning night sky from our outside bath or admire the millions of sparkly stars through a large ceiling window in the master bedroom at night.

The space
Our second cottage is now open and has been a labour of love by my partner, the builder / creator and myself, who helped with vision, design, landscaping and finishing touches.

The most outstanding features of our second cottage are probably the large stargazing window in the master bedroom, the tiled bathroom with underfloor heating, the cosy window seat and decking areas as well as the outside bath and swing set. But ultimately it is you, the guest who decides what is most outstanding to you.

Other details to mention are that there are two carpeted bedrooms (a king and a single room with a pull-out bed option), wooden floors of all common spaces and wooden ceiling across the whole house with great insulation and plenty of heating options to give you that cosy cottage feel. The bathroom also provides a washing machine and ironing facilities.

The new cottage also has a full-house water filtering system installed so you can relax knowing you are consuming and showering in the best quality water possible.

The cottage also holds a fully equipped kitchen with appliances such as a glass-top stove, oven, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, Nespresso machine, toaster and kettle and all kinds of utensils beverages (teas and coffees) and spices / sauces - whatever you need make yourself feel right at home and cook up a meal if you chose to.

The lounge area comfortably sits 3 people and also offers a large screen Android Smart TV with Netflix as well as a number of (board) games, cards and books. For our youngest visitors there are books and toys tucked away in some baskets below the TV area.

We also provide infant gear including travel cot and bedding, screw-on high chair, kids dinner ware, baby bath, kids toilet seat etc. and we are happy to set these up for you if required.

Generally our cottage sleeps 3 people comfortably and a fourth pull-out bed is available and can be set up in the smaller room.

We also offer free, fast wifi internet should you decide to bring your work with you or if you need to attend important online meetings while relaxing in the stunning Mackenzie High Country away from your busy home town.

Our second cottage was required to be fully wheel chair accessible - so you will notice some additional features like extra handles in the slightly larger bathroom, an easy access bench and bowl vanity with low mirror, and a lower dining bench in the kitchen - where we now use quality wooden chairs instead of bar stools. The master bedroom is also slightly larger to allow easier wheel chair access to enter the king bed.

Guest access
You will have the entire cottage to yourself and the outside space is completely separate from the space the property owners occupy. We are very happy to meet and greet you, but we are also very respectful of your privacy during your time at Kowhai Cottage.
