THE SPACE:
Awaken to the dancing of the seaand experience the sun rising above the Pacific Ocean to the dawn of a new day, from your spaciousbedroom. The king bed is adored withbeautiful French linen and natural bedding.
The bathroom transitions between the bedroom and a private changing area. Both the concrete bath and rain head large shower are located discretely enough to create a private sanctuary where you feel as if you are bathing in the bush, yet uniquely appointed to provideuninterrupted views of wild grasslands and coastal cliffs. Equipped with quality bathroom products, luxurious towels, bathrobes, hairdryer and space for luggage.
The living and sleeping spaces areseparated by a large sliding barn door to allow maximum flow between each area or the ability for privacy between the two rooms.
A fully equipped kitchen provides amble room for meal preparation and food storage. Including afull gas oven, with four hobs, bar fridge, tea and coffee making facilitiesand an extensive range of cooking utensils, pots, pans and beautiful serve ware.
A generous oak dining table with spacious seating provides the ideal location for a candle lit dinner, morning brunch or aplace to plan, create or play a selection of board and card games on offer.
Your living space is arranged to allow you to curl upon the large sofa in front of the wood fire as the storms roll in. Open the floor to ceilingsliding doors and breath in the fresh country sea air on a sunny day. Watch the sunset over the hills and the night sky begin to appear.

Big Hill is located on Ridgecliff Farm, a sixth generation family operatedsheep and cattle farm. Ridgecliff Farm uses regenerative farming practices to balance the needs of animals, land and biodiversity for long term sustainability. Ridgecliff has a number of biodiversity projects across the property to establish and enhance existing and new bushland and forests.Ridgecliff is a place where Sea, Bush and Country life meet and Ridgecliff stays are about embracing nature, exploring our special part of Banks Peninsula and settling into the slower rhythm of life that we all need once in a while.
90 minutes drive from central Christchurch and 35 minutes from Akaroa. Big Hill is remote enough to feel you have left the everyday world behind, but close enough to explore all that Banks Peninsula has to offer.

Romantic, rustic shepherds Hut set on a working farm. Very picturesque farm set in the stunning Takamatua Valley.
The space
Self contained Shepherds Hut in a private setting on a working farm. All linen and breakfast hamper included. The delightful outside bath and shower are on a private deck with hot running water. Fully plumbed separate toilet.
Fridge, microwave oven and BBQ. iPod docker. Fully insulated and heated with oil column heater. a very romantic, relaxing space.

Other things to note
we are a working sheep and cattle farm so you will hear farm animals from time to time. Also plenty of bird life. We have a short 20 minute walk up to a waterfall, as well as an abundance of walking tracks in the area.
Relax and unwind in one of our unique huts set above Akaroa township with amazing views across the Harbour. Kanuka Hut is a comfortable, cosy unit with everything you need to enjoy a relaxing break.
Meander Glenwood's private bush walks, sit in the shade of the ancient Totara and Matai trees in the 'Enchanted Forest', or cool off by the secluded waterfall. Enjoy a tranquil evening on your deck listening to the birdlife and stargazing. Switch off and get back to nature.
The space
Kanuka Cabin is our cosy, off-grid hut, powered by the sun. Nestled in secluded native bush, it is the retreat you need to get away from it all.
Daylight arrival is required as Kanuka Hut is accessed via a farm track.
PLEASE NOTE - There are two options to access your hut:
DRIVE IN via the farm track with your 4WD SUV suitable for off-road driving.
WALK IN/HOST SHUTTLE: park at the designated Kanuka Hut Carpark near the homestead. Take the moderate 5-minute walk to Kanuka Hut with your bags, via the signposted track, OR request our free shuttle service to the hut. Ken will meet you on arrival and take you and your luggage to Kanuka Hut.
Adjoined by a generous covered deck to your combined kitchenette, lounge, and bedroom unit is your private bathroom, complete with a composting toilet and gas hot shower. We practice sustainable ethos and where possible we reduce, reuse and recycle as much as we can. Our composting toilet reduces water consumption, and the Green Loo’s waste is turned into compost and put back on the land, returning to nature what we borrowed from it.
Cooking is done outside on the BBQ. Natural mineral well water straight from the tap is safe to drink, with no chlorine added. A mini fridge will keep your food and drinks cool.

Guest access
Make the most of our private walkways and discover for yourself the magic of Glenwood Akaroa. These extensive tracks are private and for paying guests only. We recommend taking the time to explore Glenwood (check out the waterfall on a hot day!) and provide a map of the walkways and property in your hut.

Access is either by your own suitable 4WD SUV vehicle driven directly to your hut, a 5-minute walk from the car park or request our free shuttle service by prior arrangement, or by prior request, our free shuttle service to the hut. Ken will meet you on arrival and take you and your luggage to Kanuka Hut. Please let us know your preferred option before arrival.
