Our rustic and casual cottage sits on three acres with ocean views from our large deck. It's our family home with a large yard perfect for wiffle ball, badminton or croquet. Located one mile from town and walking distance to the Mohegan Bluffs, Southeast Lighthouse and Black Rock Beach. Nearby trails are a great way to explore the hidden beauties of the island. This is a peaceful spot away from the hustle and bustle of town, where you can enjoy coffee or cocktails on the deck watching the boats go by or the birds migrate, all while not being too far from all that Block Island has to offer.

Your cozy Block Island getaway awaits you at this lovely cottage. With 3 bedrooms including 2 twin beds, 1 queen bed and a daybed, this peaceful retreat is perfect for a relaxing stay. We are dog lovers and happy to offer dog friendly accommodations for your furry friends. We only ask that you be mindful of neighbors while visiting and keep your dog within the lines of the property. For your convenience there is a dog lead available for the yard and poop bags for picking up. Dogs are welcomed on island beaches and trails - it is a doggy paradise!

There’s parking too if you need to bring a car, but you absolutely do not need to. It has a spacious living area and a nice full bed in the air-conditioned bedroom. There’s a full kitchen that, unlike a lot of rental houses, has knives that are actually sharp enough to cut things and nonstick pans that aren’t completely ruined. There’s a nice grill for those swordfish steaks you’ll get at Dick’s Fish in New Harbor, and the perfect pots and serving dishes for big batches of clams with white wine and garlic. Eating out on the island can be very expensive, so being able to cook nice meals in a rental is great. It even has carafes for making iced tea and a full set of tupperware for your leftovers. There’s a big yard you can lie down in to look at the stars, and tables for eating outside. Oh and it has THE most essential thing – an outdoor shower. **We are located at the end of a somewhat bumpy dirt road- please note for your vehicle!

On the south end of Block Island, natural quiet prevails. Off of the main road and away from the crowds of summer sits Whitegate Cottage. Sited on the edge of a green meadow, it is built in the old Block Island style facing south.


The cottage has 2 stories with the bedroom upstairs (*Note: stairs are steep and might not be suitable for young children and elderly folks) and the living area / full bathroom with a stall shower downstairs. There is a south facing front deck with table, chairs and umbrella- perfect for a sunny breakfast or evening cocktails.
It is private, quiet and special.

On the main floor, there is a kitchenette with sink, refrigerator, microwave, blender, toaster, coffeemaker, hot plate (no stove range) and all needed kitchen implements utensils for grilling, cooking, and eating. There is a gas grill outside on the deck.

The living / dining area on main floor is comfortable, casual and airy. Upstairs with windows on all 4 sides, the sea-breeze at night will keep you cool.

A outdoor hot / cold shower is in the back of the house -perfect for washing off after the beach or the best morning shower possible on a sunny day. There is also a stall shower in the downstairs bathroom.

The cottage shares a property with the main house and a micro vineyard (WHITEGATE VINEYARDS) that formerly produced wine, but is now mostly for the birds and wildlife. Our property is chemical free we use no pesticides, sprays or inorganic nutrients of any kind.

Whitegate Cottage is at the southern end of the island where the spectacular cliffs on the coastline provide unsurpassed views of the Atlantic and the island interior. You can walk to Vail Beach, Black Rock Beach and Rodman's Hollow. We enjoy the peace and quiet this far out from town. At night, you will hear the ocean, the breeze, and occasionally, the owl that lives in our meadow.

Our town, with plenty of restaurants, bars, shops, and beautiful harbor where the ferry arrives, are about 3 miles away. Note this is NOT walking distance. There are plenty of taxis if you fancy a night out and don't want to drive/bike.

Additionally, Crescent Beach, State Beach, Scotch Beach, and Mansion Beach (the biggest and most popular swimming beaches- white sand, no rocks) are about 3 miles away as well. We are within walking distance to Vail Beach and Black Rock Beach, which are beautiful, rocky, and require a jaunt down a cliff path to get there. It is absolutely worth it- you will find unsurpassed beauty.

The COTTAGE:
Upstairs : Stairs (*steep: see photos!) lead to a single bedroom with 3 beds (2 twin and one full) with a desk and sitting area.

There are ocean views from upstairs, and at night you will hear the surf crashing on the cliffs nearby. The walls and floors are all natural wood in keeping with the island look and feel.

The cottage has its own parking area separate from the main house. There is a front and back lawn, as well as a shady garden path to enjoy.

Block Island is a country setting. There is no traffic light or chain stores. There is one gas station, one bank and two food markets. But there is a brilliant night sky, green island meadows, golden hay fields and the blue Atlantic surrounding your world.

WE RENT BY THE WEEK SATURDAY TO SATURDAY. If you are interested in renting, we advise having a car as we are not within walking distance to town or the more popular swimming beaches. Bike is possible if you like to keep it simple. If you'd like to bring your car, book a ferry reservation at once, but be flexible on times and even days. THE SPACE
Sleep 4 (maximum overnight occupancy) in this immaculate rental. Built in 2015 with all new everything, overlooks a beautifully landscaped property and is just minutes from Old Harbor by foot. This beautifully appointed 2nd floor free-standing unit (there is nothing beneath you but an unused garage space) features 2 bedrooms: one queen, and one with two singles. There is a full bath indoors, plus a bonus outdoor second shower. Skylights, plenty of windows throughout, ceiling fans and central air ensure a wonderful island experience!

The 2 acre property features an expansive lawn (great for kids to run and play!), includes a hammock, fruit trees and an organic garden you are welcome to enjoy. The kitchenette has a refrigerator, microwave, stove plate, Keurig and drip coffee makers. There is a small dining table that does expand to seat 4. We provide all the basics (cutlery, dishes, cookware), so you can dine in, or enjoy the gorgeous view on your private spacious balcony - complete with your own grill, peach tree! and ample seating for friends.

The cozy living room features a large Vizio HDTV, complimentary WiFi and Cable TV. The full bathroom (indoors) includes a pristine walk-in shower, complimentary amenities (soap, shampoo/conditioner, hair dryer), and new mini washer & dryer (for a few items at a time). The outdoor shower offers both hot and cold water. The unit boasts ample storage with plenty of cabinet space, 3 closets, and a full size dresser. Solid oak floors throughout.

GUEST ACCESS
The entire rental and all of the grounds are available for guest use. You have your own balcony, grill, space for your bicycles and parking for up to 2 cars. The spacious, well kept yard is especially kid-friendly, though we have none of our own (so the property is nice and quiet, should you be seeking a peaceful retreat).

The owners are on property in the main house should you need anything, but you have total privacy as the rental is separate.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
The apartment is a single floor unit located on the second storey of a detatched unused garage, there is nobody beneath you. You do need to ascend a flight of outdoor stairs to access the unit. Maximum overnight occupancy is 4 people. While we welcome you to invite guests over, we ask that you limit it to 6 persons. (Need extra space for guests? We have an additional 2 bedrooms for rent in the main house on the property, which share a private entrance, staircase, and full bath)

Regrettably, we generally cannot accommodate pets*, as we have our own little maltese on the property already.

*on rare occasion, we may be able to permit one small (under 12 lbs) female dog per stay for an additional non-refundable one time pet fee of $100. please inquire.

WHAT IS PROVIDED/WHAT TO BRING
We provide basic linens and bathroom towels (indoor use only, please bring your own beach towels), a few rolls of TP and paper towel (long term guests will likely need to bring additional toiletries/sundries/etc). The kitchen has dishes and basic cooking utensils, a few K-cups for the Keurig, and there's also shampoo, and a small laundry detergent

THE NEIGHBORHOOD
A stone's throw (less than half a mile) from Old Harbor, you are about a 10-15 minute walk away (all sidewalk!). Nearby amenities are the local school playground (close enough to walk to, far enough not to hear any 'school' noise), Empire Movie Theater, scooter rental, the ferry, and all the shopping and yummy restaurants you can handle on Water Street.

GETTING AROUND
We are close to the ferry, the airport, and all of the fun that Old Harbor has to offer! You can walk to Old Harbor, the ferry, restaurants, shopping, nightlife, etc on one of the few sidewalk lined streets on Block Island. You'll love the convenience, privacy, and outdoor space that this rental offers, you can leave the car at home and just bring your sneakers!

Spar Point Farm on Block Island is a working family farm including a vineyard, orchard, apiary, gardens, greenhouse, and authentic wood-fired "Cob" clay oven. It offers a winning combination of being well off the main road for privacy and quiet, but less than 10 minutes by car from the main port town and 5 minutes from the airport. The farm is flanked by 230 acres of conservation land to the west and enjoys sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean, striking sunsets, and wondrous stargazing.

The Saltbox is situated in a quiet corner of the farm adjacent to the large parcel of conservation land known as "Rodman's Hollow," and offers unmatched views of the Atlantic Ocean and breathtaking sunsets. It's unique early-American "gambrel-saltbox" architecture provides an inviting and relaxed atmosphere in a pastoral setting.

The upper floor has a spacious open plan including a living and dining area accessed by a spiral staircase. An elevated large deck extends from the upper floor and includes a grill and burner for outdoor dining overlooking the ocean and Rodman's Hollow. Please note however that there is no oven or stove indoors.

There are four bedrooms on the lower floor, and three of the bedrooms have patio access. Two bedrooms have queen beds, one bedroom has an antique full bed, and a smaller fourth bedroom has a twin bed. There are two full baths, one downstairs with a clawfoot slipper tub, and one walk-in shower upstairs. Next to the Saltbox, there is also a detached outdoor shower with a sweeping view of the ocean and surroundings. Private parking for two cars is included.

Owners live on the property full-time year-round. From time to time guests may see the owners at work on the farm, including but not limited to planting, watering, mowing, weeding, pruning, and spraying. The owners make every effort to keep noise and intrusions to a minimum.

Block Island is a great getaway and offers bird watching, deep sea fishing, hiking and biking. 40% of the island is conservation land, so trails are abundant. There are numerous beaches ranging from sandy, family friendly beaches to the more secluded south coast beaches popular with surfers and surfcasters. Explore the main port with its cute boutiques and a variety of dining options.

- "Charming house in a beautiful part of the island with INCREDIBLE VIEWS! The house is nicely appointed with everything you need to be comfortable (good mattresses and pillows, high quality linens, plenty of towels, extra blankets, upscale kitchen appliances and accessories). The listing is a little misleading in terms of bathrooms...it was fine for us (two parents and two teenagers), but having a second family would have been tough. Come relax and unwind at Martin Mere cottage, a quiet and peaceful, 2+ acre property, surrounded by ponds and wildlife located on the west side of Block Island. This is a vacation home that the entire family can enjoy. Children and pets can run and play in the yard, fish can be caught in the ponds, evenings can be spent enjoying sunsets and grilling on our back deck, after a long day at the beach you can rinse off in our outdoor shower.

The space
Martin Mere is located three miles from downtown, on the southwestern side of the island. It is a 4 bedroom home equipped with one king bed, three queen beds and one twin bed. One full bath, a half bath and fully enclosed outdoor shower w/hot and cold water. Hardwood floors and a spacious living room and dining area. Full kitchen includes refrigerator w/ice maker and filtered water, toaster, coffee maker, mixer, and blender. Central heating. Stainless steel propane grill, private, filtered well water, as well as many other amenities. We have StarLink High Speed Internet available for your use! As of Summer 2023 we will have AC units in each bedroom for your comfort.

Other things to note
Boat reservations are required for your vehicle and should be made immediately upon booking your rental. Call the Block Island Ferry for reservations and scheduling.

Dog Owners: This house is pet friendly, with a $150 pet fee per dog. Up to 2 well-behaved dogs allowed. Pets should be monitored while outside and picked up after.

The Three Sisters Cottage is built on a hill with 360 degree views of the island and the ocean. The floor plan is very open with lots of windows which brings the outside in. Built in 2009 as a labor of love. It is a small lot nicely landscaped with outdoor seating areas for added privacy. Also as with all BI homes a great outdoor shower!
